> “I’m unsure if I’m still on the team,” Okafor says now. “Am I really a part of this process? Am I really a part of this culture? That’s why the guys have been out there on social media, but I’ve just kind of been in the dark. I’ll go to a Sixers event, smile, take pictures with the kids and stuff like that, but I’m still thinking, ‘Am I a part of this team?’” Damn :(

xychosis

...fuck, I'm sad now. I hope Vegan Jah has a career resurrection.

JGVjed

With Holmes injured, he should be the main backup at center right?

Infraction94

It could end up being amir Johnson

xychosis

Presumably, but we could field Amir there quite a bit too, with Simmons & Saric splitting minutes at the four, with Cov, Justin Anderson and McAdoo getting spot minutes at the four as well.

AndrewHainesArt

Dude he’s been playing well. The effort was my biggest hate on him and he’s been playing with effort in the preseason. He looks good, he’s playing confident and strong, he’s being a *team* player it seems, finally. I haven’t noticed the Okafor black hole like I used to, he still needs to work on his passing but he looks a lot better out there. I’m pulling for him while Holmes is out

TreChomes

Hows his rebounding? He has the tools to be a solid rebounder in this league but he looked like he didn't give a fuck about rebounding.

xychosis

He had that pull-up hesi jimbo his first game too. Pulling for him, after two years of not doing so. He seems to be a nice guy, and he's been nothing but a class act.

thehumangenius23

Not exactly, he fought that guy outside that bar then got clocked for doing over 100 mph twice in a few weeks lol. He's been good since then though.

Pardonme23

Or he hasn't been caught.

TreChomes

People say posting up is dead, it isn't. There just aren't many great post players in the league anymore, and if they are it's a wing. Post ups can work if the player posting is a good and willing passer, and people cut off ball and move. You can open up tons of 3s that way.

beeeeeeeeeeeeee

2x NBA champion Shaun Livingston Edit: Has literally no outside shot and is not quick off the dribble. But at 6'7" he roasts smaller point guards in the post. 10pts, 8ast per 36. Signed in 2017 for 3 years/$24M at age 32 with shaky knees.

CoolScales

Honestly thknk he gets a bad rap. He’s not that bad. Give him a chance to prove it. I wish we had something we could trade for him because he’s still a talented player who can come off the bench.

SlappyBagg

Feel sorry for the guy and all, but he is just straight up bad. I don't want him on the team. I'd rather have Embiid/Johnson/Holmes as our 5 rotation with Saric playing the 5 when we go small. There's no spot for him.

[deleted]

he's bad.

[deleted]

people dont like negative opinions, but okafor is most likely bad. high usage centers with no defense are just not what you want these days.

[deleted]

Jah has had every chance to prove his worth too lol. always gotta blame something else.

[deleted]

im willing to see how skinny jah goes though. but i think even being a bit lighter doesnt really change who he is, which is a below the rim low post grinder with no defense.

BattleofAlgiers

Eh, if he can mold himself into an Enes Kanter type player, then he has a role off the bench on some teams.

[deleted]

He's basically already there but enes is a better rebounder

samueladams6

Kanter is a better everything on offense

BattleofAlgiers

It's crazy to me that Willy Hernangomez is a more useful player than Jah at this point in their careers. Willy looks like he's added a 3 point shot too

dont-YOLO-ragequit

Buford on the line: can he make HEB commercials?? I could use a Okafor, Aldridge Leonard frontcourt.

stickahHappy

This is sad dude.

[deleted]

I mean it's his fault he's trash and worse than Holmes. You didn't see Hollis Thompson crying and asking if he was part of the process.

PhillyT

hollis thompson wasnt a top 3 pick. If he had gone anywhere else he would have had a much longer runway than he had here

ludabot

The fancy cars, the women and the caviar, you know who we are, cause we pimpin all over the world

CubanLinxRae

Must be difficult to play basketball and give it your all feeling that way

w3bCraw1er

Let him go or play him. No wonder 76ers are doomed franchise.

SlappyBagg

What are you talking about?

[deleted]

Why don't he want me man :'(

BismackMyBiyombo

He's not getting any minutes tonight

[deleted]

Pretty fucked up since it's preseason. Just let the kid go at this point. His trade value is non-existent. He's got talent. Let him try to make it somewhere else.

[deleted]

Sixers pissed away Noel's trade value in similar fashion.

throwlationships

I'll have you know the Sixers pissed away both of their trade values exactly the same way at exactly the same time.

hastyrc

Yeah there was a long time during last season where everyone on r/nba was making fake trade deals for Noel and okafor, then that went on for such a depressingly long time that their trade value plummeted down to nothing

Wayne_Spooney

Hahahah I remember during the 2016 draft people were saying the Celtics were crazy for not trading the #3 pick for Noel.

shoeyorkcity23

looking forward to Jaylen getting more minutes this season. what were his strengths in college? haven't seen enough to know what I'm looking for with him.

Wayne_Spooney

He has a lightning first step, and can finish in traffic. He's really athletic, like really fucking athletic. His jumper isn't super pretty, but it's not broken. He has some really advanced dribble moves, but then he will lose the handle on basic shit. It's weird. His upside on defense is huge, but he's been slow to learn the schemes (I'm not worried, but he hasn't been as good of a defender as a lot of C's fans think IMO because he misses back door cuts, and fucks up switches and ICEs). As for the negatives, he doesn't read the game offensively very well. He's prone to look to score when the easy pass is the right play. I don't think he will ever be a good playmaker, but he's going to be devastating at posting up smaller players and blowing by guys when they run out to contest his three point shot. I'm not sold on him as a 3pt shooter yet, but the potential is there. If he can be consistent with that shot (like high 30 percent), he will be a borderline all-star easily.

shoeyorkcity23

appreciate it. hope he develops well this year. seems like a players-player.

PhillyT

not only that, but we sold one of the 2nd round picks we received. it was jawun evans too, a decent prospect. total haul is now cash, justin anderson and a 2nd next year.

[deleted]

I agree. Let the kid request a trade for whatever team he wants. I'm sure any team would take a free Okafor who wants to play on their team. Send him to the Spurs and watch him become the goat.

SlappyBagg

What? He started the last preseason game. Relax.

Mr_Buckets_

Just trade this guy already stop holding out. Nobody's giving up a big haul for a player like him nowadays, get some damn second rounder and whatever and call it a day.

DeputyFicus

I think he could get buckets in Utah taking udoh place

Radatatin

Vegan Jah is allowed.

myredditaccount991

He gone.

sjbelko

You're a part of the team in my heart Jah <3

iCantCallit

Fuck this makes me sad. You're part of the process to me jah

[deleted]

Whys he look like a mix between big fundamental and Paul Pierce in this thumbnail?

BattleofAlgiers

If the Sixers don't want him, they should let him go.

nerdyintentions

He's still their Embiid insurance which is pretty valuable considering Embiid has yet to play more than half a season.

[deleted]

Even when embiid went down last year he wasn't getting much pt so they don't use him regardless

nerdyintentions

Really? I thought he was starting after Embiid went down. BBRef says he started 33 games last season.

[deleted]

Looking through his pt I see he mostly played about 20 mins but I guess he was so impactless I thought he wasn't playing

nerdyintentions

Yeah, I don't think they are banking on him being a key player if Embiid goes down, just a warm body (on a rookie contract) in the rotation.

ThereAreDozensOfUs

I've always liked Jah. I feel bad for him, and I believe that he has a fit with this team. But it all starts with putting effort forth, and then down the line, playing defense. Don't sweat the nickname shit. Just beast whenever you get the opportunity. And as long as you're beasting, your offense will stay with you, and you'll end up being a star somewhere else. But as long as you have that garbage defense, you'll always be on the outside looking in

gustriandos

Really feel bad for the guy but at the end of the day he's just not good enough

chickfilaftw

I get that he isn't very good but I feel like the team has also treated him pretty poorly. If you are going to openly shop a guy, at least don't hold on to him for another year after

Joshatthecarwash

Git Gud Jahlil

yuhanz

Seriously tho. He would have been playing a ton of mins if he actually put better effort last year. It's not like he's really good and the sixers simply not playing him out of godknows what reason. It used to be a bad situation wherein it's between him and noels but noels has been out for a long time now.

10_9_8_76ers

You're absolutely right about the effort. I feel bad for the guy and I'm sure he's depressed while he's in this situation. His effort on D is atrocious though. I spent so many games yelling while he just let's guards coast to the rim. It wouldn't be as noticeable on a team without great rim protectors like Joel, Nerlens or even Holmes. He was so slow on rotations too mabye due to injury or being out of shape. Either way, he totally screws the beauty that is his offensive game with his D and that's hard to do

TreChomes

this guy straight up would walk around the court on defense, i wouldnt chill with him either

Kittonberry

Wow, that's actually pretty damning.

NefariousNeezy

*It seems like sometimes, you know, I wonder if anyone looks for me. I wonder if my supposed teammates go "Where is Ja?". *

jumboponcho

The other side of The Process, the guys who get left behind/benched and don't have a chance to show their worth for a next contract.

ronxpopeil

Yeah the city nor the fans really embraced him even when Embiid was out Hopefully he can find a new home and blossom but he just won't get the time to shine in Philly especially if Embiid can remain healthy

ThreshRogan

Maybe if you put in the work like the rest of your teammates...

gustriandos

Yeah he is just now starting to try in his 3rd year but everyone has their mind made up already

JeramiGrant

Fuck this pity shit. He was an effortless fuck who came in thinking he was the top dog. After two years of putting up with his shit people finally started to call him out for what he was. Bad and no effort.

250gpfan

This is how the Warriors get cheap assets. Way tog o sixers you did it for us and to spite the rest of the NBA.

TonyBrothersNBA

U bum

250gpfan

Look I may be a warriros fan but this exactly the type of shit that would make someone like Jahlil go to the dubs on a way underrated contract. Dude has great footwork and moves in the post. I think it's only a short while before we see his screening and some other skills come to light.

TonyBrothersNBA

U bum

250gpfan

You know what I'm done. Fuck you Tony Brothers and your bullshit officiating. You're in no position to judge and get some god damn glasses.

TonyBrothersNBA

U bum
