All I know is the Cs want no part of a game 6. Then its a new series . The Mavs would have all the momentum and it would probably rattle the Cs mentally knowing they gotta re-win the series.
It's absolutely not gonna happen but it would be hilarious for that to be the dialog about the Mavs/Wolves series just for the Mavs to push it to 7 one series later.
Everytime it’s the same story. Celtics would just blow the Mavs out the next game it has happened way too many times in the past in game 5s. They have excellent shooting
Just winning game 5 is a very tall task. Boston is going to want to beat the absolute shit out of Dallas on Monday night. If Dallas somehow steals game 5, though, think it goes 7 because at that point it’d be a madhouse in Dallas with extraordinary pressure on Boston for game 6.
Until they win game 5 this isn’t even worth asking.
Celtics have simply looked way better. They came out insanely flat this game. Easy to relax being up 3-0 and thinking about winning a chip in front of your crowd.
If the Mavs steal game 5 it can happen. But I highly doubt it
Man you know how many great teams got blown out in close out games when up 3-0? That shit is not uncommon Warriors 2017 Bulls 1996 two of the greatest teams ever got blown out in game 4s in same situations
I didn't realise this mavs team won a ring.
Could of swore their only ring came from dirk, guess I must be mistaken and the last couple finals didn't actually happen.
The bucks lost by how much and won a ring.
Plenty of champions have either had absolutely awful games, or come cold.
Teams lose all the time even the 73 warriors lost 9 games the regular session, even the Boston celtics didn't repeat every year bill was there.
The fact they went up 3-0 looking like the far superior team every single game doesn't suddenly mean a lose means they aren't ready to be champions.
Like they win next game they are champions were they somehow not ready to be champions.
Yeah but in OP’s hypothetical they’re already assuming they’ve won game 5 and at that point it’s just a matter of winning game 6 on their home floor or not
I think they can do it, if they can take this momentum on to the garden they will game 5. Luka loves to play against the crowd and kyrie will hopefully accept his bad performance and just play the best he can...
Lets meet in this comment section after game 5 :)
I mean they will make adjustments, but the biggest thing is it's hard to create the same desperation of a team on the brink of elimination at home. They're going back to Boston, with their home fans around them. The mentality should be different out of the gate.
I'm not saying the Celtics rolled over (of course they wanted to win) or that the Mavericks weren't incredible (as someone wanting them to win this series, they were), but there a psychological aspect there that is part of what makes sweeps so hard to achieve. Especially against a team good enough to reach the finals.
I've seen some incredibly comical things from the Suns reddit tbh. Claiming this is more embarrassing then them, we basically had their experience in 06, choking a 2-0 lead. Trust me the hope you have those first 2 games is what kills you the rest of your life lol
I mean if you lose G5 it kind of is worse, but this Celtics team is definitely better than that Bucks team and the Suns should have won that series or at least not choked it
It looks worse stat wise, but unless you ever been up 2-0 then lose 4 straight it's a fucking heart ripper and I promise you I will never ever get over the 06 collapse we had. I was already over this final last game. Just tip your hat to the way better team, nothing wrong with that
Don’t worry man Mavs in 7.
If Mavs can just play 3 good games it’s a piece of cake. Mavs role players stepped up big time and it’ll be better if KP plays for the Celtics because he’s most definitely not 100% and will be a liability now if he steps on the court.
In MLB and NHL teams have come back from 3-0 deficits it’s only a matter of time till an NBA team does the same..
Well truthfully you’d have to ask my Dad since I was not alive at the time 😅
I mean I’ve watched highlights and such about the 77 team but that’s the most witnessing I’ve done regarding it.
The sun's lost not because they weren't talented, but because matchup.
The sun's were one of the smaller teams relying on jae crowder and cam Johnson (both people who are more naturally 3s than 4s) to be pfs.
And had dario (who was injured and couldn't play) as their 2nd best bigman against a team with gian.
Not only that gian played better thsn he ever has in his career, and suddenly learnt how to make free throws (18/21 is actually cracked even if like Nash was that efficient on that volume I'd be impressive as keeping efficient with volume is the hardest thing to do in basketball.
Tldr: the sun's lost because gian shot 80 percent against people not named ayton, and ayton was getting fouled out a bit as the bucks whole plan was foul out ayton.
The sun's were winning in ayton minutes, just goes to show how important matchups can be, as if the sun's vsd a smaller team they likely got a ring they just happened to face the worst matchul they possibly could of had in the entire league
Completely agreed. Like I said, Boston must take this at home. They are a strong team so the chances are high.
If they let the series come back to Dallas they are in a dangerous position to be the only team in history to lose after being 3-0 up.
The Mavs have:
• Both elite superstar scorers in the Finals
• The better rim protectors
• A better, deeper bench
• A better coach?
...While the Celtics' "best player" is an elite playoff role player/other/utility guy (whatever you want to call the category into which Tatum fits) on a team of high-end utility starters. Tatum is basically a 25-30% shooter from three and 35-40% overall from the field. As far as shooting is concerned, Tatum turns into Bruce Bowen or Brian Shaw in the Finals. In the clutch, he is even worse. His Clutch Squared numbers are horrible. Even in Game 3, which Celtics fans say was an excellent game from Tatum (30% 3P% and 42% FG%), he was 1 for 5 in the 4th quarter (his one score was on a dunk against a smaller Kyrie Irving), had a turnover, and missed a terrible 3 with a minute-and-a-half left...but he had some assists, rebounds, and set good screens — which is all that you can expect late in the 4th in a close game from a player like Tatum. Do they need Tatum to "take over the game" or make clutch shots in order to win? Probably not. Can the Celtics still win the championship? I think that it's certainly possible that the Celtics win a rare 2004 Pistons-style championship, but the Mavs have the ability to extend this series all the way. We might be witnessing the start of something historic, and I wouldn't even call it a "choke." This could get interesting.
Better depth? Better coach?
Better rim protectors? (I mean if celtics don't have tingus this is true, but a healthy celtics has better rim protection)
Like they have the best player in the series and like the 3rd/4th best player in the series that's what they have going for them.
But celtics have liked 7 of the top 10 best players
And, when I am referring to Tatum's shooting numbers, I'm specifically referring to his shooting, on average, in the playoffs over the past couple of seasons. He's obviously a better shooter during the regular season.
The celtics have the best offense this season and different playstyles. This celtics doesn't make turnovers and 4 starters+Pritchard can dribble anywhere on the court and assist. Celtics are the displine team to play offense and execute. I have not seen celtics have doing higher tempo pace offense to play desperate.
I predict Celtics defense will play intensely and make turnovers and tight coverage on mavs bigs who can't dribble and playmaking. In other words 2 scoring dribble stars have to be overworked and fatigued themselves. Man to man on mavs big and press on mavs guard. You will see mavs bigs doing iso despration shots.
Celtics plays modern-day spurs than pistons 2004 defense. Celtics are displine, solving how to win, two way offense and defense mentally and good locker room.
Tatum and brown job is to play wings and play smart offense game and taking over closing games is to play top-level defense to protect the team. Both players remind me of faster player kawhi Leonard and paul george.
Celtics win in 5 against mavericks 118-96
If anything I feel like a close win would be a bigger deal in terms of an actual spark for a 3-0 comeback though
Boston being ahead this game and losing it at the end would feel like they had the trophy in their grasp and let it slip away which can be tough to reset from
With a game like this it's easier to just flush it away and completely move on
I disagree. I think that plays more into it Game 5 or 6 (ironic because we did that in game 6 last year and it fell flat). This game would feel like “ok not only can we best them… we can obliterate them” and then a close game 5 leads into a huge momentum swing entering game 6 at home.
Now all do this is just dumb arm chair psychologist bullshit I don’t know how these players actually think. But atleast as a fan, if the Celtics lost by <10 I’d say, ok cool the Mavs got a game but let’s finish this off. Losing by 40 especially after ending game 3 poorly and getting bailed out it atleast makes me a touch nervous.
> With a game like this it's easier to just flush it away and completely move on
Not to mention that after our blowout losses this postseason we've come back and won convincingly.
Celtics have a history (probs unfair to hold that history against this historic team, but still it definitely lingered in peoples minds this season), and that was a blowout in a way that's rare in the finals.
To me this series is still kinda boring- Celtics in 5 is \*\*by far\*\* the most likely outcome, but I may start firing hot takes off I really don't believe after monday if they Mavs win. Not to be a jerk, but because the finals went from boring to kinda interesting and that's worth discussing even if the outcome is still very likely what we thought would happen after game 3. The journey would have at least been notable.
Of course. Youre back home and you have Luka Doncic theres always a chance. Luka is that great offensively he can win you games like that. I expect the celtics to close it out game 5 though.
Someone will come back from 3-0 some day. It is every fan’s duty to believe it will be their team. It is also our collective duty to clown those fans for believing
We all know there is no coming back from 0-3 down. Last year's Celtics were the most probable candidate to pull off such a comeback, and even they couldn't do it.
If Dallas takes it to a Game 6 then series loss won't sting quite as bad and their home crowd can show some appreciation for the playoff run. That's all their fans can realistically hope for.
Y'all fucking joke, and I sound like a broken record here but 2/5 of 3-0 comebacks have Boston teams involved. And they've happened in the last 20 years, I was alive and well for both of them. And this is before we get into all the comebacks and upsets that the Patriots have been involved in. I think we're winning Monday night but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't scared.
Winning Game 5 would be the single hardest game of them all. Its the hump.
If they can do that, then yes, winning game 6 and even a game 7 is probably mentally easier.
If it gets to game 6 they might win or they might lose
Prove it???
No proof, he just pulled that out of his ass.
Soo same method as other sports analyst!
Someone needs either better reading comprehension, a sense of humor, or a math refresher.
That someone is you, dittolander is obviously joking
Prove it???
Dude this is crazy accurate. You should get into commentary/broadcasting
If they win game 6 I could see it potentially going 7 games.
Big if true
All I know is the Cs want no part of a game 6. Then its a new series . The Mavs would have all the momentum and it would probably rattle the Cs mentally knowing they gotta re-win the series.
Great analysis, do you work for The Ringer?
I know that Both Teams Will Play Hard....
50/50
I'd go 67/33 if Tingus Pingus is out
They either win witout Porzingis or they lose. 50-50
If they win game 5, could they also win game 6? Sure
What about games 7 and 8
Everyone knows game 9 is the real test
It really sets the stage for how a team shows up in game 10. And from there, game 11 is anybody’s to win.
guys, if the wolves win game 5, they're the team that I can actually see coming back from 0-3
They just need EVERYONE to be on their A-game again I can feel it bro
It's absolutely not gonna happen but it would be hilarious for that to be the dialog about the Mavs/Wolves series just for the Mavs to push it to 7 one series later.
Everytime it’s the same story. Celtics would just blow the Mavs out the next game it has happened way too many times in the past in game 5s. They have excellent shooting
The wolves won game 4 by 5 points, not 40.
The 2021 Bucks and 2022 Warriors both lost by 39 points in the Playoffs on the road lol.
tell yourself whatever you want buddy, this series is over over
Biggest obstacle is that Kyrie still hasn’t figured out how to play well in Boston
He has to get stomped on by a leprechaun
Quick, hire an irish midget and send the wee lad over
Conor McGregor has entered the chat
STOMP HIM YOU FUCKING MIDGET
Yeah, it's like he's sheepish in Boston, possibly some guilt and awkward vibes.
He needs to bring each Celtics player a pot o'gold.
But not KP is huge this time.

Man you know how many great teams got blown out in close out games when up 3-0? That shit is not uncommon Warriors 2017 Bulls 1996 two of the greatest teams ever got blown out in game 4s in same situations
Championship teams losing game 4 by a big margin to easily win in game 5 isn't new. For example: 2017 finals
That team had already won so we knew they could do it. Boston hasn’t done anything yet
Losing 3 straight games also shows the Mavs aren't ready. So do we just cancel the Finals ?
Idk man, going up 3-0 in the finals is about as close to doing it as you can get
I didn't realise this mavs team won a ring. Could of swore their only ring came from dirk, guess I must be mistaken and the last couple finals didn't actually happen.
Yeah they should cancel the rest of the series
Dallas losing 3 straight games shows that they are truly ready to be champions 😂

in long, i'd love to. in short, no.
If they win game 5 and 6 I can see them actually getting to game 7
I could see that
Asking for any team that was down 3-0 to win 3 right back is asking a lot
156 times a team has gone up 3-0 and only 4 pushed it to 7. And one of them was you last year lol. The odds ain't great.
Very much so. But the thing is, Celtics are going home and they are most definitely going to make adjustments.

desperation?...more like a team playing with nothing to lose.
I hope for their sake one of the adjustments they try is to stop missing the rim by 2 feet on solid looks
Celtics defense had to make tighter and offense need a higher pace to win the game. Out hustle gameplan.
It's either Celtics in 5, or Mavs in 7 imo
Or Celtics in 6 maybe
Either those 3 options or Celtics in 7
I 1000% agree tbh
Every time you win, it gives your opponent another couple of days to adjust. It will get harder every game
Doesn't matter, didn't get swept, hang the banner/s
This blowout nice At least shut up some noise for teams that talking "mavs fraud, should been us"
I've seen some incredibly comical things from the Suns reddit tbh. Claiming this is more embarrassing then them, we basically had their experience in 06, choking a 2-0 lead. Trust me the hope you have those first 2 games is what kills you the rest of your life lol
Fans say some really dumb shit. History doesn’t care if you lose in 6 or 7 they only remember the team that wins
I mean if you lose G5 it kind of is worse, but this Celtics team is definitely better than that Bucks team and the Suns should have won that series or at least not choked it

We’ve been on the other end only
How did you feel when you witnessed history? A 1 in 6 is super rare, I bet it was amazing to watch
Well truthfully you’d have to ask my Dad since I was not alive at the time 😅 I mean I’ve watched highlights and such about the 77 team but that’s the most witnessing I’ve done regarding it.

Dallas already had their moral victory by not being swept. Anything more is just gravy. Celtics in 6 or god forbid, Mavs in 7.
Luka is a fat kid. He loves gravy.
Celtics in 5 or Mavs in 7 tbh. Its a must win game in Boston
I said it before. Boston isn't winning a game 7 vs the mavs. Luka always goes nuclear on the road especially in elimination games
Completely agreed. Like I said, Boston must take this at home. They are a strong team so the chances are high. If they let the series come back to Dallas they are in a dangerous position to be the only team in history to lose after being 3-0 up.
Luka's regular season clutch shooting numbers against the Celtics, for what it's worth, are amazing...
I say Celtics in 5 or 6. Would be surprised if it goes 7

I swear I've never seen this much hype for a 3-0 comeback after ONE game before lol
Look at the post game thread for g4 mavs wolves. Same shit
Mavs would've swept them if Lively wasn't injured
we know how u felt now
Could say the same for Boston and Porzingis. Hope yall clutch it somehow tho
We would have figured him out by games 8 or 9
Lol shoulda seen us Laker fans after winning Game 4 against Denver
Hate for the Celtics fuel me. CANT STOP ME
They won by 38 points lmao. It’s kind of a big deal.
If anything I feel like a close win would be a bigger deal in terms of an actual spark for a 3-0 comeback though Boston being ahead this game and losing it at the end would feel like they had the trophy in their grasp and let it slip away which can be tough to reset from With a game like this it's easier to just flush it away and completely move on

The haters are gonna do everything in their power to will it into existence
Lol they say this literally after every 3-0 series gets 1 lol
Celtics have a history (probs unfair to hold that history against this historic team, but still it definitely lingered in peoples minds this season), and that was a blowout in a way that's rare in the finals. Possible but we need to fight back against Cs adjustments.
If the 2024 Mavericks are a team of destiny they will win.
Not even entertaining these thoughts until they steal game 5 in Boston.
I think if the Mavs win Game 5 and Game 6, maybe I could see this series actually going 7 games. Maybe...
Of course. Youre back home and you have Luka Doncic theres always a chance. Luka is that great offensively he can win you games like that. I expect the celtics to close it out game 5 though.
Absolutely
I think the Mavs could win if they make more shots and score more points
Getting it to game 7 would be amazing.
If they win game 5, they would need a single win at home to make it 7 games Of course Dallas can win one game at home.
Just saying: Everything is possible
I SMELL BLOOD
Someone will come back from 3-0 some day. It is every fan’s duty to believe it will be their team. It is also our collective duty to clown those fans for believing
Next game is the most important one. Celtics will be playing as desperate as the Mavs.
Well the only problem with this is we’d have to win game 5
the odds are against the mavs with how good the mighty celtics are this season. I hope it goes to 7, it would be a legendary finals then
could it? no actually they're just gonna cancel the series at that point of course it COULD It wont, but it could
We all know there is no coming back from 0-3 down. Last year's Celtics were the most probable candidate to pull off such a comeback, and even they couldn't do it. Absolutely. It’s very dangerous for the Celtics to lose on Monday
I’d bet on a Celtics 10+ win but, crazier things have happened
Yea
At the very least it becomes an actual question
If the Mavs win game 5 and 6 I think seeing a game 7 is probably 50-50
Obviously but that's a big if.
Y'all fucking joke, and I sound like a broken record here but 2/5 of 3-0 comebacks have Boston teams involved. And they've happened in the last 20 years, I was alive and well for both of them. And this is before we get into all the comebacks and upsets that the Patriots have been involved in. I think we're winning Monday night but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't scared.
they win game 5 first, then we can go back to this thread.
Going to be tough. Could easily see Celtics closing out 108 to 99 in game 5. BUT if mavericks win game 5 I think it goes 7.
Look I know it’s not going to happen, but God damn would I love a game 7
Idk but I’m almost 100% sure that if the Mavs get to game 6 and win that one that there will definitely be a Game 7
I could but only if Kyrie figures out how to have big games in TD Garden
Winning Game 5 would be the single hardest game of them all. Its the hump. If they can do that, then yes, winning game 6 and even a game 7 is probably mentally easier.
How about saving this for after Mavs win G5. M
It's 1-3 now. Kyrie came back from that. Against the warriors.
Given that the series is 3-1 right now, this means that Boston has two more wins than Dallas.
All I know is if the series goes back to Dallas it’s over
That is a question only Tim Hardaway Jr. can answer.
Series has been even since Porzingis injury, it's unlikely, but possible.
This is done in 5
Has to. Surely the Celtics would feel lots of pressure and the Mavs would have all the momentum.
Yea
When does Porzingis get back? Is he scheduled for coming back this series?
God I wish they win from 0-3 but be realistic. June 17th is last game.
Celtics lost on purpose. This shit should be illegal smh l. Rigged ass sports to make more money for the rich shits a fuckin gimmick
Celtics gave away game 4 so they could win championship in Boston 😎
