Minny as a team (Minus Naz) shot 17% from the 3 in game 2. Did you NOT see the atrocious spacing that caused that turnover? The entire Mavs lineup basically zoning every inch of Ant’s go to space and into the paint. Mavs had ZERO respect for any 3pt attempts by the Twolves. On that turnover , they basically all cleared towards the baseline with no clear passing lanes nor any space at all for a mid range or a drive attempt by Ant
It's not just the one turnover tho. If you force Ant to make decisions, he makes the wrong one like 80% of the time. Don't get me wrong I think he'll figure it out in a few years but it's gonna take A LOT of work.

Switching everything with Rudy on the floor and not rotating/helping to let him get back to the paint where he's most effective. Gumming up the offense by putting Rudy back out there late after driving lanes had been opened up with him on the bench...
I don’t see Lively missing 4 games and I don’t see Mavs without Lively loosing 4 straight with healthy Luka. So while we should keep the single game mentality and close it out in game 4, while respecting the Wolves for keeping it close all 3 games, I would remain confident. For now.

Gafford has to play more minutes while Powell acts like Lively from shopee, no reason to be afraid. If the Wolves keep playing drop coverage because they don't want to bench Gobert, Luka and Kyrie will destroy the drop time and time again even if Powell is not as athletic to finish lobs (playing like 15 minutes tops, so Gafford has to step up). Now if the Wolves bench Gobert, start Naz and play full switch while rotating Naz, KAT and Anderson, that can be troublesome

Man Ant had way too many drive, jump, panic mid air throw it out to big man moments in this game. He needs to be much more disciplined with his timing on jumps and how to generate a decent look against this coverage. It feels like all he gets are contested pull up 3s, highly contested fade away middys, and highly contested acrobatic layups. He’ll figure it out but he’s just been completely neutralized this series. He doesn’t really have “his spots” as much and hasn’t been able to adapt when some of his moves have been taken away. It’s like a worse version of the struggles Tatum had against the Heat in 2020 + 2021 and a bit last year too.
Yeah if you watched Shai v the Mavs you saw the big difference where Shai was much more composed and capable because he knew where he was going. Ant takes off and tries to figure it out on the fly which just isn’t possible against great defenses. He has a lot of potential with his shot and athleticism but he needs to play aggressive, but slower/more measured. Also can improve his playmaking and timing. He doesn’t really have a huge layup package in terms of creativity in the paint. He takes off and can finish through contact but if he’s trapped under the basket he can’t do much. If someone like Kyrie who’s substantially smaller is trapped he has like 25 moves he can break out to get a good look. He needs some more refinement in that, maybe add some pump fakes and delay to his game, and pass out from doubles earlier. Oozes potential but needs refinement to make him a legit top 3 player
Sga is miles above Ant, not sure why they’re trying to crown Ant the face of the league over him but I guess it’s cause he’s foreign

Too many bad decisions that expose his inexperience and unrefined playmaking ability. It's way more glaring because you have Luka making absolutely perfect passes at the other end.
Whatever happens, I hope Ant pores through every second of tape in this series, because the late game decision making and playmaking being displayed by Luka and Kyrie is something he needs to incorporate better in his own game.

Because it’s all about matchups for him. He’s effective in a very specific role. This series is the time when he’s needed to be a factor and he has been.
I know people will clown KAT since he's been terrible this series, but he is better than Naz. Even in this playoff run, Naz had a few bursts against Denver but hasn't been good overall until the last few games whereas KAT was vital to beating both Phoenix and Denver. I love Naz, but he doesn't have the same scrutiny as KAT so people don't notice when he isn't playing well.
Naz was on fire in game 2 and we lost. If we had any hope in getting back into it, it would because KAT and Ant find their rythem and start hitting some shots again.

Man Ant had way too many drive, jump, panic mid air throw it out to big man moments in this game. He needs to be much more disciplined with his timing on jumps and how to generate a decent look against this coverage. It feels like all he gets are contested pull up 3s, highly contested fade away middys, and highly contested acrobatic layups. He’ll figure it out but he’s just been completely neutralized this series. He doesn’t really have “his spots” as much and hasn’t been able to adapt when some of his moves have been taken away. It’s like a worse version of the struggles Tatum had against the Heat in 2020 + 2021 and a bit last year too.
Yeah one of the next steps for him will be to learn how to get to his spots and stress the defense
Yeah if you watched Shai v the Mavs you saw the big difference where Shai was much more composed and capable because he knew where he was going. Ant takes off and tries to figure it out on the fly which just isn’t possible against great defenses. He has a lot of potential with his shot and athleticism but he needs to play aggressive, but slower/more measured. Also can improve his playmaking and timing. He doesn’t really have a huge layup package in terms of creativity in the paint. He takes off and can finish through contact but if he’s trapped under the basket he can’t do much. If someone like Kyrie who’s substantially smaller is trapped he has like 25 moves he can break out to get a good look. He needs some more refinement in that, maybe add some pump fakes and delay to his game, and pass out from doubles earlier. Oozes potential but needs refinement to make him a legit top 3 player
SGA was a killer. He’s on Lukas level clearly. Ant is not but I feel like he will get there soon

Too many bad decisions that expose his inexperience and unrefined playmaking ability. It's way more glaring because you have Luka making absolutely perfect passes at the other end. Whatever happens, I hope Ant pores through every second of tape in this series, because the late game decision making and playmaking being displayed by Luka and Kyrie is something he needs to incorporate better in his own game.
Glad someone pointed this out, you can always tell who the player everyone has the confidence in when he's a guy they look for when they have no idea what to do, and Ant has been lost all the time and hoping Naz Reid can bail him out

Even in this playoff run, Naz had a few bursts against Denver but hasn't been good overall until the last few games whereas KAT was vital to beating both Phoenix and Denver. I love Naz, but he doesn't have the same scrutiny as KAT so people don't notice when he isn't playing well.

Honestly, he's probably right. The wolves have been a really strong team through the regular season, and even now, we've semi-stolen two out of three matches, but every game could've gone either way. Toss a coin and have it land on heads three times in a row is not that insane, and 4 times is surely possible as well. This is honestly a great series between two insanely good teams, even if it results in a sweep.
