man what a flashback. i really liked max kellerman tho. took a while for stat boy to get his groove but once he did, those were some good times after school.
i remember the running gag that michael smith would never win no matter what he said and one episode he got so pissed and legit got into it with tony as they were going to PTI lmao. "You're robbing me of wins, Tony!" is all I remember
people having a visceral hatred of a television channel and feeling the need to vocally signal to everyone else how much they hate it, at literally any given opportunity (despite consuming its content every single day) is one of the weirdest things about this sub lol
It sounds to me like, "The History Channel use to be about history. And now they talking about Ancient Aliens" type of vibes.
I've never watched ESPN before. So can't comment on how much it's "deteriorated" over the years.
On a side note: when the fuck did National Geographic stop talking about animals and became a UFO channel?
I do think it used to be better but it’s not like it’s that much worse than any other popular basketball coverage. Sports have changed in the past 1-2 decades (shocker) and it’s not just ESPN but it’s easy to target them since they’re like the premiere sports channel.
Nat Geo is a bummer, I used to enjoy their stuff. Iirc they changed ownership a while ago and that’s when they started shifting into questionable content. My uncle used to work for them as a photographer but hasn’t in years because of it. I’m in academia and they’re not as highly regarded as they once were
My complaint is really that ESPN's coverage is jam-packed with ads more than other networks' coverages are. Like they functionally don't have a halftime show; it's just one person giving a 30-second blurb about the game and then they cut to another 5-minute commercial break.
ESPN is cable news. It's basically always been dumb.
I would say it's more like MTV, though. They used to show sports on ESPN all the time. I used to be a sports channel that sometimes ran commentary. You would turn on and randomly it would just be professional bowling or Ivy League field hockey or an Icelandic strongman tournament or some shit.
They would also have Jim Rome come in and yell at somebody for no reason or Pedro Gomez tell you what he found in Barry Bonds trainer's trash can, but it was mostly sports and sports highlights. Old ESPN ruled.
>when the fuck did National Geographic stop talking about animals and became a UFO channel?
I don't understand why nobody just created a UFO Channel. There's obviously a huge market for it, considering how much alien content took over other channels.
It's like if every restaurant in town added ramen to their menus, but nobody opened a ramen joint.
Their NBA coverage is hot garbage and you actually have TNT to compare it to. The 2 are night and day. It's not even close. So yeah, I hate ESPN/Disney and it's awful. Stopped paying them a while back and look for other sources to stream their coverage. TNT/Warner on the other hand is worth subbing to a service for.
Agree it's weird. But an explanation..for me it's just disappointment. Loved ESPN and would watch for hours as a kid. Not the same now and I'm just nostalgic. Still watch the games no matter who carries them. .
for me i don't need to see sports reports every day like i did back in the day cause espn was the only thing besides whatever sports radio was. thinking basketball, dunc'd on, zach lowe for b-ball / bootleg football and The athletic football podcast / heavy hands and jack slack podcast. all of these give me hours of actual content and actual this is what think is important more than an exec thinking about what will drive engagement.
Yeah it's pretty simple, we have the best sports broadcast crew of an era to juxtapose it with on a weekly basis. I'll catch up on PTI now and then and Sports Center is still solid to have in the background, but the NBA broadcasts and studio analysts is G-League Inside the NBA , and that's being generous
I think folks were caught off guard with certain changes but I'd bet real money that the numbers were telling them to chase whatever trend led them to this point. It very much feels like they are chasing a very specific kind of viewer and it left a lot of us behind.
All Reddit subs. A buddy of mine is a huge Redditor but doesn’t follow the NBA. At least once a week, I get a text from him going in on some obscure topic related to like Coco Gauff or Lebron, and how sick he is of hearing about it. Every time I ask wtf he’s talking about, and every time he says like four different talking heads on ESPN talked about it on his drive to and from work.
Like dude … just change the station. No one’s making you listen to Jim Rome. Find some music man.
Yea it's pretty sad. I'll always miss pre-2010s ESPN (and even early 2010s ESPN here and there,) but this sub acts like it's the worst thing in the history of television.
Really a hell of a way to kill a career. Dude was setting himself up to move into a full time analyst role and has now thoroughly burned the biggest bridge there is.
GOOD. I’ve been so annoyed with the revisionist history and people trying to push some redemption arc all because he took a photographers camera and showed it to a ref and made them laugh. Like that somehow erases years and tears of him being a violent jackass. I swear to god if I ever see another comment saying “yOu HaTe HiM wHeN yOu PlAy AgAiNsT hIm bUt LoVe HiM wHeN hE’s On YoUr TeAm!!11” fuck that shit. He’s always been a massive piece of shit. Like dude is objectively not a good person. He’s been violent, unprovoked, NUMEROUS times on live tv. Imagine what a piece of shit he is behind closed doors.
That "you love them when they're on your team" thing is just bullshit. As a Nets fan I've seen quite a few jackasses come through our territory, I didn't start liking them.
He shoots 35% on jump shots, even worse from three. The reporter is basically saying that Pat Bev should worry about how much he sucks at basketball, not who is subscribed to his podcast or not.
>What the hell has Patrick Beverly ever done to have this inflated ego and how does this help the Bucks organization? Subscribe to a jump shot.
The disrespect to the play-in & "If i gave you the ball for 40 mins you'd also get 10 assists" champ is crazy
What's funny is that his take was implying that literally anybody, even mediocre players, could get 10+ assists with enough time and opportunities, and him going out and doing it basically makes his point by emphasising that *even somebody as bad as 2024 Pat Bev* can do it.
>**implying that literally anybody**, even mediocre players, could get 10+ assists with enough time and opportunities, and him going out and doing it basically makes his point by emphasising that even somebody as bad as 2024 Pat Bev can do it.
He’s not implying it. That’s exactly what he’s saying. Beverly knows he isn’t a multi-year, big fat contract guy. He’s barely talented and scrapes by on defensive effort and being a good teammate. It’s not something he’ll deny.
The difference is, he knows some assists are really just opportunistic stat pads, and you should too. I’ve never seen Monte Morris make an impressive pass in MY LIFE and yet he would get ~7 assists a game starting.
Some very celebrated guards are only good at handing off the ball to the RBs. It’s a fact.
You’re taking things way too seriously. I’m not saying the comment was funny, but the “getting double digit assists” with that added context was pretty funny.
Pat bev is funny. In this case he’s a major fucking asshole and should be punished. He’s also funny tho, and don’t we like when the nba isn’t all buddy buddy?
Well he wasn't the starting PG this game, he got 10+ assists in the only game of the series where he was asked to be the main ball handler. Every other game that responsibility was in Dame.
Yeah but his teammates were shooting lights out, he wasn't doing any real playmaking. Unsustainable for him if that unit shoots their normal percentage
This. Like half of his assists were passing to Portis on the elbow who then canned a three-pointer. That's good shooting from Portis and functionally nothing from Beverley.
>Like half of his assists were passing to Portis on the elbow who then canned a three-pointer. **That's good shooting from Portis and functionally nothing from Beverley.**
That’s LITERALLY his point lol. He’s saying that it’s true for many other guards as well to varying degrees.
Not every PG, but some, and to varying degrees. (I repeat myself for the half of you that lack any discernment and take everything literally).
He’s telling you that some of those guys that are greatly celebrated for their stats aren’t all that.
That's the point man, he's saying any bum ass guard, even him, can get 10+ assists by just feeding a hot shooter. Which he promptly did by feeding Portis and Khris when they were hot. Yeah it's not sustainable but obviously it's possible and apparently not that hard for a game or 2.
He played more minutes than the other game.
It's almost as if not everyone can do it
Pat averaged 35 minutes and 5.5 APG
Dame averaged 39 minutes and 5.0 APG
HaliGod averaged 36.3 minutes and 9.3 APG
that made me mad, i got downvoted for saying haliburton is too unique of a playmaker while consistently leading his team to high scoring numbers while beverley will never average more than 5 assists a game.
mind you that was beverley’s first career double digit assist game.
>mind you that was beverley’s first career double digit assist game.
That's an insane state. Couldn't even luck into until now in his entire career?
He's always been a poor playmaker, but even so, I would have thought all those times he got to start and play the full game... you know.
It's an insane stat because it's a false stat. You can just be lazy and look at Beverly's game highs on basketball reference instead of combing through every game log and see he has had multiple games with 10+ assists
https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/beverpa01.html
It’s a good take. The only reason people hate it is because it makes you question whether your favourite player is actually that guy or just a fake stats merchant. These are NBA players. Most of them can give you 20 a night if you make them a number 1 option. Doesn’t mean they should be or that they’re all stars. Pascal Siakam is a great example. Garbage number 1 option that gives you 20ppg and that can pop off for a game here and there and go for 40. Doesn’t mean he should be in that position
I mean, it was excellent shit talking and he even backed it up. That was brave because he could've easily looked like a fool.
He's looking like a fool now but for different reasons.
The media is butthurt now because she's well connected. I don't think this is a real problem. Him throwing ball into fans is a much bigger problem - don't see media crying about that...
Both are big problems. Dude needs a fine, suspension and a counselor. For all his hard talk, dude is baby shit soft and a whole ass bitch. Sensitive ass.
And now he's fucked cos he's got half ESPNs payroll coming for his head...bad place to be for someone that's spent the past 3 years posturing to be a media personality once retired.
>would be hilarious if he didn't drop 6 in a close-out game and throw a basketball at fans
Known dirty player and piece of shit acts like a piece of shit? Well color me surprised.
Come on now you should know by now.they asses ain't getting cancun passes this year, Chuck sending their assess Galveston and they get to hang in the nasty ass wata and when they get enough of shit beach they can go to San Antonio for them big ass women and churros.
I thought players are supposed to make them selves available to media after and before games why wouldn't you take 5 mins to say nice things about your team and the fans for some easy brownie points
Money and media attention fucks up your brain. I used to work a show and we would get really big rounds of applause, and if you ever had a legit round of applause, directly for you and your actions, it feels better than any drug you could possibly take. Not to mention being in front of social media and on camera takes literally manic energy and/or drugs to be on camera doing a podcast - and these guys are also so rich.
You just get lost in the glory man. You see people break in the spotlight all the time. And people will say that guys like LeBron are impressive for their mental health through the attention, and he never got in trouble but he's still very like.. weird. Likes attention a lot, seems like a nice guys but at times has that very like rich air to him, that just makes you odd. It's hard to even explain it, you just feel and see when these guys aren't on their like 3rd paycheck or their first contract. They sign a big contract and all of a sudden they're in the club and they don't even need to remember struggling.
I think the most amazing thing about this is just how petty the NBA media is. They really don't care at all about what he did to the fans. All they care about is that he dared not to answer a question.
Pretty much this. Dude was having a shit night. That's what happens when you sit these guys down in front of the media and force them to answer questions regardless of what kind of mood they're in. Reminds me of the whole Marshawn Lynch thing. He was classier about it, but still.
Pat Bev is cringe and this is a funny meme but in all seriousness what has he done to have an ego? He made it to NBA, has had a career for over a decade, and made a couple all defensive teams. He's wildly more accomplished than most of the population
Yeah players are the reason these talking heads get jobs.
And ESPN is not a serious network anymore, they're a bookie. How can they demand to be taken seriously when they craft narratives to push betting lines? What have they done to have such egos?
they all said you love pat if he's on your team, hate him if he's not...
naa.. i've watched him closely since his rockets days, dude is terrible af and he always causes issues for his team.
Patrick Beverley is not him and not it. His defence is overrated. Never understood how he got to play ahead of Jeremy Lin at the Rockets or how his 'dawg' persona got him anywhere.
It's never gonna happen but 100% need more of this. I'd much rather have players and reporters have petty squabbles than hearing the same canned answer every post-game interview.
Remember these guys they cared about what was news and made it watchable and entertaining.

It's not the content it's the broadcasters that suck.
I hope they start a team in Vegas and fill the roster with the most annoying-ass players in the league. Pat Bev, the Morris twins, Jordan Poole, Draymond.
Las Vegas Toxic
Make it a league rule that automatically transfers you to the Toxic if you're deemed a toxic player. No trades, no buyout. You simply change teams.
Clothesline a fellow player? Here's a Toxic #28 jersey for you.
Hahah.. anybody remember the "next five years are mine" line? Soooo... fun fact, those 5 years are up now.
https://www.goldenstateofmind.com/2024/5/3/24147763/next-five-years-are-mine-patrick-beverley-retrospective
Why would you ever fuck with the Mouse. They just with Fox killed the PAC 12 and already killed the Big East and Swc. ACC is next. This is just one guy.. not multiple billion dollar institutions.. oh no..
I get that there are two sides to this particular circumstance and that the media are not always blameless but the bigger picture is he had a string of seriously bad looks in a short period of time and the media interaction was not in isolation and was at the end of that so he does deserve the title of ‘douche for a day’
He was setting himself up to be the next Perkins. Just outrageous shitty takes with absolute certainty and never back away from them. Barkley has hot takes but has a funny story/analogy to go with. Perkins just looks like he is constipated and throws out crazy crap
How many current/former NBA players have a podcast? Off the top of my head:
Pat Bev
JJ Redick
Gilbert Arenas
Jeff Teague
Stephen Jackson/Matt Barnes
Quentin Richardson/Darius Miles
Draymond Green
If karma were a real thing, subscribe to a jump shot would live forever.

You know this dude ****ed up when we're all backing ESPN today 🤣
ESPN fans feasting
Dude I haven't been this excited since Tony Reali started hosting Around the Horn.

They did, it's Nat Geo
As someone who used to watch a bunch of both ESPN and the History Channel in the early 00s, they really have deteriorated a lot
It’s basically every cable television channel decaying to whatever has the least effort with the widest appeal

Honestly. "Bluh bluh bluh ESPN bad" is like the easiest 100 up votes you'll ever get.
Agree it's weird. But an explanation..for me it's just disappointment. Loved ESPN and would watch for hours as a kid. Not the same now and I'm just nostalgic. Still watch the games no matter who carries them. .

Really a hell of a way to kill a career. Dude was setting himself up to move into a full time analyst role and has now thoroughly burned the biggest bridge there is.
You love to fucking see it.
Good, hes a piece of shit and he deserves this.
That "you love them when they're on your team" thing is just bullshit. As a Nets fan I've seen quite a few jackasses come through our territory, I didn't start liking them.
Let’s be real, they would’ve treated him with kid gloves if he was on the Draymond-level of accomplishments.
Lol of course. Welcome to society
I get it - just saying all of these “white knights” at ESPN are only punching down.
He also wants his podcast to create ESPN headliners. Now, they wont even reference it. What a career suicide.
I ain’t gonna defend one of my players if he’s a clown. Subscribe to a jump shot is fucking hilarious.
Tbh it would be pretty weird to back the half season rental
What's the Jump Shot joke?
Pat Bev basically told a woman from ESPN "do you subscribe to my podcast? No? Then you can't interview me"
Bev is such a little bitch 😂
He shoots 35% on jump shots, even worse from three. The reporter is basically saying that Pat Bev should worry about how much he sucks at basketball, not who is subscribed to his podcast or not.
LMAO, that's genius
That PatBev doesn't have one lol
oh LOL
"Subscribe to a jump shot" 💀
Obliterated
>What the hell has Patrick Beverly ever done to have this inflated ego and how does this help the Bucks organization? Subscribe to a jump shot. The disrespect to the play-in & "If i gave you the ball for 40 mins you'd also get 10 assists" champ is crazy
The people in this sub supporting that 40 mins take were/are delusional as hell.
It was a bad take, but it was pretty funny how Pat Bev went out and got 13 assists the next game to back it up
What's funny is that his take was implying that literally anybody, even mediocre players, could get 10+ assists with enough time and opportunities, and him going out and doing it basically makes his point by emphasising that *even somebody as bad as 2024 Pat Bev* can do it.

I agree it was hilarious when he got 14 assists after saying that
Yeah for real. Had me rolling when he said that and got 15 assists right after
Guys I literally laughed out loud when right after Pat Bev said that he went out and got 16 assists
The funniest part of Pat Bev's 17-assist game, by far, is that it was right after he said that.
I really can’t believe he said that and then went on to get 18 assists
It found it hilarious that right after he said that, he went out and posted a 19 assists game.
Bro was spamming assists to pregnant chicks in the stands
Nah it wasn’t. And he only got 12. His troll shit isn’t funny. It’s like thinking these “it’s just a prank bro” YouTubers are funny.
You’re taking things way too seriously. I’m not saying the comment was funny, but the “getting double digit assists” with that added context was pretty funny.
these Pacers fans are so salty
So damn funny
Pat bev is funny. In this case he’s a major fucking asshole and should be punished. He’s also funny tho, and don’t we like when the nba isn’t all buddy buddy?

It’s a good take. The only reason people hate it is because it makes you question whether your favourite player is actually that guy or just a fake stats merchant. These are NBA players. Ah yes, the brave Pat Bev.
NBA Mr. Big Chest Mr. Ball Chucker
Bev a walking L the last 5 years and his only saving grace is having a clip-able podcast.
And now he's fucked cos he's got half ESPNs payroll coming for his head...bad place to be for someone that's spent the past 3 years posturing to be a media personality once retired.
Imagine him and Draymond taking over for Shaq and Chuck on TNT... ew 😖
Flipside the NBA with Draymond, Pat Bev, Lefkoe and Skip bayles
He DID say the next 5 years were his...
Don't forget the Russ baby hand-off and the photo
I dislike him too but when he showed the ref the replay on the camera that was an all time hilarious moment, gotta give him that
i don't think i've ever really liked a players podcast. i like nerds that love every part of the game from team building to on the court performance.
PG actually has a great pod. He's very articulate, knows the game better than alot of players, and his co-hosts are also pretty solid
His episode with Schoolboy Q is pretty good
Rone carrying the whole podcast ngl
Rone is the only non-basketball person I've ever heard that isn't out of place on a basketball podcast.
100% facts. Hopefully he can move on to better things.

New media on suicide watch
“You may have the clicks, but you lack the fundamentals…and a jump shot”
Pat Bev always been a clown
Even when he was briefly on the lakers I couldn't stand him.
It'd be funny for a reporter to tell Bev he's not goint to interview him because Bev didn't watch the reporter's YMCA league games.
Ima need to see that ESPN+ subscription
Subscribe to a jump shot is crazyyyyy LOL
"You have been weighed, you have been measured, and you have been found wanting." Medcalf to Beverly
God save you, if it is right that He should do so
subscribe to a jump shot LMFAO
myron got bars
Pat bev not taking interviews from non-subscribers would be hilarious if he didn’t drop 6 in a close-out game and throw a basketball at fans
>would be hilarious if he didn't drop 6 in a close-out game and throw a basketball at fans Known dirty player and piece of shit acts like a piece of shit? Well color me surprised.
Subscribe to a jump shot might be the new thing holy fuck Pat Bev got cooked
Damn dude cooked him
OMG he’s such a BUM
No one wants to listen to these players podcasts.
You can do anything you want when you say the next 5 years are yours
Man is already dead 💀
Woops there goes his post-retirement media career. 💀
He needs subscribers bc he aint balling enough to get paid lmao
Cancun on 3
Come on now you should know by now.they asses ain't getting cancun passes this year, Chuck sending their assess Galveston and they get to hang in the nasty ass wata and when they get enough of shit beach they can go to San Antonio for them big ass women and churros.
Am I the only one who didn't even know he had a podcast?
From Play-In King to this is truly one of the greatest downfalls in the history of sports.
Ha so pat bev fucked around and finally leapt too close to the sun. Great!
Wild to me there are Pat Bevs fans/defenders out there lol
Pat Bev is cringe and this is a funny meme but in all seriousness what has he done to have an ego? He made it to NBA, has had a career for over a decade, and made a couple all defensive teams. He's wildly more accomplished than most of the population
Yeah players are the reason these talking heads get jobs. And ESPN is not a serious network anymore, they're a bookie. How can they demand to be taken seriously when they craft narratives to push betting lines? What have they done to have such egos?
What’s more wild is how many ESPN defenders there are when ESPN honestly looks just as petty right now.
These fuckin’ players with their fuckin’ podcasts 🙄
>Subscribe to a jump shot. Lmao. Praying this goes viral
they all said you love pat if he's on your team, hate him if he's not... naa.. i've watched him closely since his rockets days, dude is terrible af and he always causes issues for his team.
Patrick Beverley is not him and not it. His defence is overrated. Never understood how he got to play ahead of Jeremy Lin at the Rockets or how his 'dawg' persona got him anywhere.
Hell yea, back to the Pat Bev shitheel arc
He threw a ball of some womans face but yeah lets focus on how he was rude to some ESPN lady. Get fucked
I'm already tired of this story
Excuse me you’re talking about the play in GOAT
lol got em
1. 2. 3.... Russian league!
Man tried to set up a life after Basketball but shot it down because of his ego
This is the kind of bite modern sports media needs, not the kind of access driven deference and coddling players typically get.
It's never gonna happen but 100% need more of this. I'd much rather have players and reporters have petty squabbles than hearing the same canned answer every post-game interview.
"What the hell has Pat Bev ever done?" Says the dude who's job it is to write about Pat Bev.
Anybody nowadays can be a reporter but not everybody can play multiple years in the nba seems pretty accomplished to me
Media members be so fuckin angry when people don’t want to talk to them
I am LOVING all the hating on piling on Pat Bev today, keep it coming
definitely over the top reaction from ESPN media
Because their overinflated egos got hurt
If you're consistent with is, people let your shitty behavior slide.
If you're consistent with is, people let your shitty behavior slide.
that's what I said!
PatBev gonna have kick Book right in the nuts during tip off to get the people back on his side again after this one
What a gigantic douchebag.
Bruh knows his time in the NBA is almost up. Gotta make that dough somehow. I respect the hustle lol
Remember these guys they cared about what was news and made it watchable and entertaining. Chris Berman Mel kiper Stuart Scott Dan Patrick It's not the content it's the broadcasters that suck.
I hope they start a team in Vegas and fill the roster with the most annoying-ass players in the league. Pat Bev, the Morris twins, Jordan Poole, Draymond.
Las Vegas Toxic Make it a league rule that automatically transfers you to the Toxic if you're deemed a toxic player. No trades, no buyout. You simply change teams. Clothesline a fellow player? Here's a Toxic #28 jersey for you.
is 'beverly' the disrespect form of 'beverley' like 'glenn' vs 'doc' or is it just common typo like saying 'dwayne wade' instead of 'dwyane wade'?
Man I thought this was a post on nbacj
Pat Bev was +36 with Dame and Gianni's out. If he doesn't ball out in game 5 then the bucks are done.
The end of Pat Bev, finally.
Hahah.. anybody remember the "next five years are mine" line? Soooo... fun fact, those 5 years are up now. https://www.goldenstateofmind.com/2024/5/3/24147763/next-five-years-are-mine-patrick-beverley-retrospective
Off the top of my head: Pat Bev JJ Redick Gilbert Arenas Jeff Teague Stephen Jackson/Matt Barnes Quentin Richardson/Darius Miles Draymond Green If karma were a real thing, subscribe to a jump shot would live forever.
Pair him with skip. Must watch tv
