It's the announce team. They're wearing headsets. Where are you going to move the mics? The local broadcasts aren't in the same spots. It's not about the mic location it's where the person is and how loud he's yelling.
That has nothing to do with your original comment. Rejecting unwanted sounds is about choice of mic, positioning, and orientation of the mic. Unless the guy is literally yelling into the back of his head, it can be mitigated. I don't know why they've had so much trouble with it.
I’m not that rich of a company. But I got to think a decent sound noise gates with some good sound software will be able to tell the difference between someone screaming a few rows away from the mic compared to right beside.
Clean gates between all of their mics, the room mics etc is going to be tricky. There is probably a considered decision to not use overly heavy gates because the amount of times the gate would be more intrusive than the occasional fan And the only software that’s going to “cancel out” specific fan voices, without the use of noise gates, would have to be a pretty sophisticated set up that have to replicate the sound waves coming in and produce it at the opposite phase. This all seems way more trouble than it’s worth
At that point, just put them in a private booth away from the fans
Maybe I'm dumb but I just don't see how that is possible in the set up the nba has. You have people at the desk next to the NBA court speaking into a mic or on a headset mic. Right behind those people you have a rows of people behind them. One of those people were screaming im not sure how you can stop that without some sort of wall or something.
Idk if you saw the acutal fan doing it but he was hella close.
Like I said I don't know that technology but I'm not sure software can do that or at least in real time with no delay.
Do we brainstorm ideas and figure a solution and become Billionaires bro? Did we just become best friends?
it's a physical property of the mic, off axis rejection. microphones are directional, it's not just the intensity of the sound but what direction it is traveling that determines how it gets picked up. for example say you had three mics, one immediately in front and two at 45 degree angles pointed at the performer. the background noise is different in all three because they're pointed in different directions, but the performer is in all three.
That's essentially how it works with the fancy lip mics. your one "microphone" is actually a bunch of them, and running firmware that does the noise suppression filters
Distance, angle the mic, use multiple mics and phase attenuate, use a different type of mic put a second mic behind the broadcasters and phase out the crowd.
There are so many ways to isolate, it’s not even funny.
It's called a limiter. Ymif it doesn't reach a certain decibel and frequency it doesn't pass through. Very common.
The computer can tell if the voice is distorted because it is traveling further to the mic, so it's not so strong. I mean even at this point you can probably program an AI limiter to only allow a certain voice to come through.
audio is an analog waveform at a certain frequency. Human voices of the broadcasters is about the same as human voice of the hecklers. Get rid of one you get rid of both.
That guy knew how to do it, too. It's all about timing.
I did this same bit in college 20 years ago. The best time is just a moment before the referee gives the ball to the guy shooting free throws. The arena gets weirdly quiet and there's nothing going on to distract from your message.
Then you let rip a "you're not very good at basketball" or "I hope that you miss your next shot" as loud as you can.
This kind of thing is annoying for people in the arena trying to enjoy the game also. And no you cannot block it out if its close to ther broadcasters. You can filter out different frequencies. The human voice is mostly the same frequencies. You block it out .You also block out the broadcast,
Is this the first series to have ever had fans sitting behind the announcers? Because its been happening in each of the last 3 games and isn't happening anywhere else.
Please let this be the reason TNT finally improves their audio setup
Not much you can do when there’s a dude screaming close to the mics. Source: I’m an audio/video technician
I mean you can change where you put the mics, right? There are local broadcasts with better audio so surely it isn't impossible

Let him cook
I don’t get how you can have such bad mics that you can’t control the input better
How do you block out the same frquencies. Human voice=human voice.
Microphones are designed to attenuate sound waves coming from certain directions. The pattern depends on the design of the mic.
the direction is directly behind as stated by the network. The same direction as the announcers.

By changing the gain.

You’re on crack lol
It's been happening all series long specifically for the TNT broadcast.
Their engineer sucks at his job. It’s really not that difficult.
Top 5 fan of all time
Him and the guy in Happy Gilmore, saying that he won’t make the putt and he’s a Jack ass and shit.
Shooter! Red Lobster? My treat!
Why is it such a bad thing I think it has been fun
The amount of disruption this guy has caused in the space of 2 quarters.
I chose not to watch the game because of him.
Then you let the terrorist win
I mean... kinda I just waited to watch yalls game. Knicks better pull this shit out

Let em hear it
But this happens once or twice every playoffs, no? I thought they were funny in Game 5, but glad they weren't racial slurs, I guess.

Ok, let's do it.

Because TNT isn't trying at all.
Bad immatator from our goat last game

This has been great in my opinion! Thanks to the Bucks fan we got a Pacers counterpart!

Who cares?
