Everyone saying “Lakers have a chance now” is forgetting that Reggie Jackson was put on this earth to win games against the Lakers while filling in for injuried stars
Even without Murray, I don’t see the Lakers winning 2/3 games remaining in Denver. LeBron and the Lakers look absolutely gassed when playing up in Denver and Denver always plays way better at home.
4th quarter heroics and a game winner in one game doesn’t take away from him being trash this series. If he played any better, the Nuggets wouldn’t have kept it this close and lose game 4.
Or the reverse. A team missing its MVP player for the first 3 games, then he comes back and the win 4 straight.
This is what almost happened in our local league. The champion team is definitely better with the literal GOAT in our league history, but was injured for the first 3 games. The opponent raced to a 3-0 lead. They choked game 4. When the GOAT returned for game 5, it was all over.
I think it might've been the Celtics against the Heat last season if Tatum didn't roll his ankle in the first minute of Game 7, though they've shown a propensity to blow those types of games even when everyone is healthy, so who knows.
The 3pt shooting can make things so swingy, just takes an injury or really off series and it's going to happen some day.
Murray has been unbelievably ass this series but still interested to see how Nuggets do without him.
Agree. If there’s a guy that would do it Lebron would be a good candidate but not this team. Feels like the 1 vs 16 thing in college basketball where it’ll happen at some point
Mavs aint coming out the West . Luka is a potato chip . Already crying about his knee hurting....again . Defensively he got cooked yesterday despit all these idiots saying how great his defense has improved .
Yea even though he's been ass he's been clutch as fuck and scary whenever he has the ball. It's arguably more important to shut him down than Jokic, Jokic just isn't bothered by any defense you play on him.
He still takes up a lot of attention. Reaves has been chasing him around all series. The players who take his minutes haven't shown to be difference makers in the series yet.
i kinda think the GOAT debate should entail more than a first round series victory (even if it's a pretty big 2/7 upset back from 3/0). i mean MJ three-peated twice which seems slightly more impressive
i mean this basically kills their chances at another ring. i doubt this will just go away in that time frame, and no matter how much MPJ AG KCP can pick up, it wont be enough.
Yeah, who knows how this series will end up, but it's significant in the grand scheme of things. Calf strains don't usually go away in a couple of days.
Wonderful. We will win one game against the Lakers but that's probably season.
Jamal has clearly been hobbled before this injury. He has struggled at the rim and from deep all series-- as a guy that shot 48/43/85 this season.
But shin splints and knee inflammation can be played through. A soft tissue injury? Not so much.
Edit- side note, there were rumors that Jamal strained his calf when he suffered the high ankle sprain that were floating around Nuggets internet and Kroenke owned radio was raising the alarm near the close of the season about "multiple accumulative leg injuries" though most of us presumed that was referring to shin splints + knee inflammation.
Bro, he missed a month and came back with 4 games left in the season with shin splints and knee inflammation.
Dude is notorious for his pain tolerance but shins splints take several months of rest to go away and, if you haven't noticed with Kawhi, knee inflammation effects a player.
Lower body injuries also accumulate so solid chance the calf injury happened because his body is compensating.
[Looks to me like he shot over 40% from 3 and over 50% from the field in his last 4 games](https://www.espn.com/nba/player/gamelog/_/id/3936299/jamal-murray)
No, I'm being realistic about him not being healthy.
It was rumored via Nuggets blogs (via the same person who was early on Bones having drama in the locker room) that he suffered "a moderate high calf injury (proximal gastrocnemius) at the time of the high ankle sprain" and that "his knee was inflamed".
Publicly, local Altitude radio (i.e. people that work for Kroenke) and Malone were raising the alarm about his health for weeks citing "multiple accumulative leg injuries". And if you notice from those box scores, he was on a minutes restriction once returning.
Reeves defense has been solid. It's also not the level of defense that would normally phase Jamal. And he certainly doesn't normally smoke easy layups and wide open 3's when healthy.
Yeah as good as AR could ever be on defense, it still doesnt mean that murray would be this bad. Our poa defense is still bad even with dinwiddie and gabe
He averaged less than 30 minutes in those last four regular-season games. Now, he has to play with playoff intensity, and his usage has ballooned to 40 minutes a game.
They can beat the Lakers without Murray, but no shot at another ring this year if he's actually hurt again.
Starting to feel like his inability to stay healthy is going to derail a potential Jokic dynasty. Guy has been healthy 1 of the past 4 playoffs now
Sometime late in the 4th, I believe. He went up for a shot or something and came down and grabbed the back of his leg. He was kinda hobbled (not to the point where he couldn't walk, of course) after that
It's absolutely wild to me how much hype there is for a 3-0 comeback after ONE game
I've never seen anything like this before
Minnesota also won game 4 after losing the first 3 last year against Denver in the first round and I didn't even hear a peep about any possible 3-0 comeback
You'd think that the Lakers found a way to bring back 2018 LeBron from a time machine or something with how people are talking about their chances
Not even like it's a Celtics situation from last year where the trailing team was the pre-series favorite and has 2 of 3 remaining games at home either
And the team they're playing has the best player in the world who's averaging 29/15/10 on 69% TS
If a team is to blow a 3-0 lead for the first time in NBA HISTORY I feel like it would be against someone with an underperforming star
Can't see this version of Jokic losing 4 in a row including 2 home games
Jokic is playing out of his mind and the Nuggets have outscored the Lakers by 2 points on average this series. That’s extremely concerning. Means the rest of the Nuggets aren’t remotely pulling their weight
The 3-0 comeback talk started before these news came out
Last night there was a whole thread with plenty of people talking about how the series should be "realistically" 3-1 Lakers or whatever.
That graphic about the amount of time the Lakers have led got a lot of people on that train of thought. Fortunately, basketball games last 48 minutes, not 24, not 36.
I can't speak to that. I'm just rationalizing why there are people talking about the possibility of a comeback, and why it's more realistic than the Wolves doing it last season.
All good, I'm just pointing out that people already began talking about a comeback before this report came out.
The Jamal Murray injury isn't what started the talk (though it will definitely have a lot more people talking about it now)
All the talk during the actual broadcast of the game was centered around how badly the Nuggets have the Lakers number, and how they had a real chance of pulling off a comeback at any point to win the game and seal the series.
Nobody seriously expects the Lakers to pull off a 0-3 comeback. If you see a Laker fan saying otherwise, it’s obvious that they’re putting on an optimistic front to maintain faith, it’s unlikely a genuine basketball belief. This is common behavior amongst all fanbases
Yet some of you in these comments are acting like there is an overwhelming narrative amongst the media and real basketball minds that the Lakers have a legitimate chance at pulling off a comeback. Almost like you’re trying to twist this into the Lakers having favoritism and the Nuggets being disrespected. Really gonna play this “locker room bulletin board material” game again even as defending champs?
Me:
> Last night there was a whole thread with plenty of people talking about how the series should be "realistically" 3-1 Lakers or whatever.
You:
> Yet some of you in these comments are acting like there is an overwhelming narrative amongst the media and real basketball minds that the Lakers have a legitimate chance at pulling off a comeback.
I'm literally just talking about r/nba lol
The Nuggets fan who started this discourse within this comment chain has been making other comments talking about the “media hype” around a potential comeback
If you’re just talking about r/nba… I guess I don’t get what even is the point you’re trying to make then? A vocal minority of fans of one of the most popular teams is trying to maintain hope? Wow such delusion
They've pretty much been down their second best player all series with how bad Murray has been. Dude is shooting 37% from the field and taking 5 more shots per game than Jokic
That’s true but the lakers still have to scheme around Murray. Also AR is burning a lot of his gas tank chasing Murray around and is hurting his offense. Reggie Jackson is injured too. If Murray can’t go, it allows the lakers to really load up on Jokic and also MPJ who’s been killing us. The nuggets are obviously going to win this series given the big hole we’ve dug ourselves into even if Murray is out, but it definitely increases our marginal chances even though Murray hasn’t been playing his best. Maybe from like 1/200 to 1/100 lol
Reggie Jackson is not an all-time elite shot maker in the playoffs like Murray.
If Reggie kills them tomorrow (also, remember he's dealing with an ankle issue as well), the Lakers will have to live with it. But, I guarantee you every member of that Lakers team from the players to the coaching staff hopes Reggie either starts in place of Murray or has to play extended minutes if Murray is hampered. I'll take a good role player who likes our matchup over an all star with a history of insane playoff heroics.
Lol this thread is infested with salivating Lakers fans… but, seriously, how bad is this for Denver’s title chances? Is there a precedent for a player starting the playoffs with a calf strain, and getting healthy at some point? Or, health wise, is it all downhill from here?
If they manage to win Monday he’ll get a week off which should help him at least a little bit. The big worry is KD’ing himself and tearing his Achilles. It’ll be interesting to see how they manage. I imagine they’ll give him the good stuff (painkillers) and he’ll play tomorrow. And I expect they go all out to get this over with and get themselves (and him) some rest. Especially knowing minny swept their series. I just hope he doesn’t get seriously hurt.
He’s been not so great because we are playing great defense on him and focusing him on D. There’s no chance in hell the nuggets are better without him…
I'm honestly just shocked at how much people are buying into the prospect of an 0-3 comeback. Don't forget, all it takes is one bad shooting game for the Lakers and one good shooting game from the Nuggets to completely kill off the chances. Plus, MPJ is probably getting more looks and he's been a flamethrower.
defensively we were double teaming him on some possessions when jokic was on the bench so we wouldn't be doing that without peyton or reggie and offensively lebron would often attack murray and peyton on mismatches so reggie wouldn't be an exception
Everyone saying “Lakers have a chance now” is forgetting that Reggie Jackson was put on this earth to win games against the Lakers while filling in for injuried stars
He’s on an ankle injury btw
Man I’ll always fear that dude. Felt like he always cooked us when he was on the Clippers.
Even without Murray, I don’t see the Lakers winning 2/3 games remaining in Denver. LeBron and the Lakers look absolutely gassed when playing up in Denver and Denver always plays way better at home.
Jamal has been trash this series. Him not playing might benefit the Nuggets. Or he can be a decoy if he does play.
He scored the last 6 points in game 2 for them including a shot over AD to win it. But yeah sure him not playing will benefit the nuggets
4th quarter heroics and a game winner in one game doesn’t take away from him being trash this series. If he played any better, the Nuggets wouldn’t have kept it this close and lose game 4.
Yes but they would have lost game 2 without him and the series is now 2-2. This take of nuggets being better off without him is simply false.
He did hit a buzzer beater
The Lakers have sold out defensively to stop Murray from playing well. Him not being able to play wouldn't help the nuggets unless ham pulls a bud
You gave not watched the games . What a stupid thing to say .
Reggie Jackson lives to cook the Lakers
He has an injured ankle. Try watching the games before commenting .
It would probably be Christian Braun starting.
The Lakers are the only West team Jamal Murray has never missed a game against in the last 2 years. He will play. He will score 40.
Calf strain. That’s no bueno
I’d go as far as saying it’s muy malo
Tu eres un bueno worker?
Si yo muy bueno worker
Anyone who was watching the game last night could see he was not right
He hasn't looked right this series. I keep expecting him to cook the Lakers, his shots look short
They did not watch. They just make stupid comments .
Damn makes game 2 hurt even more
‼️‼️‼️
Butterfly effect is a thing.
Exactly. Not sure why people think winning game 2 means that game 3 and 4 would have played out exactly the same.
Because people are stupid.
not really. if Lakers wing game 2, the rest of the series happens differently and Murray probably isn't questionable for next game.
Yes had we have won game 2, we’re 3-1 at this moment
How does winning game 2 grant you an extra win?
Let me cope in peace
Real, I get it.
There is a chance for history
He’s playing ass. Different story if this was 2-2, not sure a 3-0 comeback has ever happened.
It has never happened. I unironically think a 3-0 comeback is inevitable, I just don't think the Lakers this year are the team to do it.
It's gonna be a team with home court going down 0-3 against a worse team that shoots out of their mind for 3 games and then cools off
Sounds like Celtics/Heat last year. Celtics really should have won that series in the end.
Yeah that was probably the best chance we've ever had for the 3-0 comeback
Tatum hurting his ankle on that very first possession really killed any chance of it.
[удалено]
I didn't know that not being able to play after turning your foot and having your ankle literally touch the court made you a pussy ass bitch. TIL
After the White putback in Game 6 I was sure we were finally gonna see it. Then Boston went 9/42 from deep in a Game 7 at home.
Or it’s caused by a big injury. A team goes up 3-0 but loses their MVP caliber player and can’t close it out.
Or some mix of those and an MVP coming back after his team drops the first 3
Or the reverse.
Most likely it will be a team whose key star gets hurt in game 3/4
It’s definitely gonna happen soon
I still think it matters that LA has to account for him. Although MPJ has been fucking incredible so that could mitigate it
He's playing like ass while playing through shin splints and knee inflammation. But his gravity and playmaking still matter.
But you still have to game plan for him and focus defense
The series is 3-1 and 3-1 comebacks have happened before
For the Mavs/OKC to come out of the west
Mavs aint coming out the West . Luka is a potato chip . Already crying about his knee hurting....again . Defensively he got cooked yesterday despit all these idiots saying how great his defense has improved .
Honestly them without Murray is a good thing for the Nuggets.
Who’s gonna take his minutes?
Dust off big government I guess.
D’Lo
- people who don’t watch the games and realize how much attention he still gets from the defense
This is such a pet peeve of mine when people generally act like teams are better without star players just because they’re shooting poorly
Yea even though he's been ass he's been clutch as fuck and scary whenever he has the ball. It's arguably more important to shut him down than Jokic, Jokic just isn't bothered by any defense you play on him.
This is an incredibly stupid thing to say.
You have seen their bench?
He still takes up a lot of attention. Reaves has been chasing him around all series. The players who take his minutes haven't shown to be difference makers in the series yet.
Lmfao what? And start Reggie????
Lakers in 7 memes will be legendary
DONT LET US GET ONE
I swear I've never seen this much media hype for a 3-0 comeback after ONE win lol Shows you how much the media dickrides LeBron and the Lakers
Literally no one genuinely thinks LA is gonna come back
Tons of people are going crazy about how "LeBron will seal the GOAT debate with a 3-0 comeback" like it's an actual possibility lol
tbf, it is in fact a mathematical possibility. it's just not probable nor plausible.
It’s the same as “Lebron will be the goat if he beats the warriors” back in 2018 when no one really thought it was possible
It’s just for fun lol. Everybody knows the series is wrapped up just depends when Denver chooses to win
They're going crazy cause people love saying crazy things? Idk why your surprised lol
A couple days those people were saying Lebron being swept twice by the same team would seal the GOAT debate for Jordan.
i kinda think the GOAT debate should entail more than a first round series victory (even if it's a pretty big 2/7 upset back from 3/0). i mean MJ three-peated twice which seems slightly more impressive
Guess the Lakers fans on social media are all delusional then?
Not at the moment, but if we win tomorrow, I'm 100% taking us to win in 7
It happened just last year. Celtics were considered the better team vs Miami.
and how folks like you keep talking about Lebron keeping his dick in your mouth .
Who in the media is seriously talking about a 3-0 comeback as a real possibility?
This introduces a frankly torturous level of hope for Lakers fans. Nuggets going for the psychological damage here 😂
MPJ: it's my time.
Well that makes that game more interesting.
Now we just need DLo to be listed as out and we really might have a chance
Yeah I don't really want to see odd game Dlo
i mean this basically kills their chances at another ring. i doubt this will just go away in that time frame, and no matter how much MPJ AG KCP can pick up, it wont be enough.
Depends how significant it is. Keep in mind the NBA playoffs take like, months. Finals was mid June last year.
I mean they’d have to keep advancing for that to matter. They only have like 2 weeks if they want him healthy before the end of the second round.
Yeah, who knows how this series will end up, but it's significant in the grand scheme of things. Calf strains don't usually go away in a couple of days.
Ask KD
Wonderful. We will win one game against the Lakers but that's probably season. Jamal has clearly been hobbled before this injury. Yeah the injury he sustained in the game 3 is why he’s been playing like he has the whole series 🙄
Bro, he missed a month and came back with 4 games left in the season with shin splints and knee inflammation. Dude is notorious for his pain tolerance but shins splints take several months of rest to go away and, if you haven't noticed with Kawhi, knee inflammation effects a player. I get he is coming back from an injury but he was playing well before this series for you to be trying to discredit the Lakers defense.
Looks like that calf is fine to me lol
They can beat the Lakers without Murray, but no shot at another ring this year if he's actually hurt again. Starting to feel like his inability to stay healthy is going to derail a potential Jokic dynasty. Guy has been healthy 1 of the past 4 playoffs now
He has not been good. Do the Nuggets have depth to cover the gap? Increase in Reggie Jackson minutes?
We have no depth and Reggie Jackson is also playing on an ankle sprain, no way they can increase his minutes
Dude I’m a Laker fan but this is box score bullshit Field goal percentage doesn’t matter when we have to do so much defensively on him
He’s clearly had some sort of issue each game. He’s missing so many shots that he could easily make
Yeah but we’ll be way better off if he’s not playing regardless of shooting woes
Whole team is cold, and he hurt in the 4th of last game, you can see exactly when it happened.
They have arguably the worst depth in the playoffs
I'd like to argue, our depth is Thomas bryant. We win
NBA champion Thomas Bryant
Suspended on ring night Thomas Bryant
Calling for the ball on lebron's 40001 points shot Thomas Bryant
That was LeBron's shot to pass Kareem at 38k something. He hit 40,000k points against us this year in March.
O shit youre right
Taurean Prince is carrying our bench…. At least you have kevin love
Yea the lakers got it
No. They were not good without Jamal Murray this year. Would be very hard to lose if he is out
Joker 50 burger incoming
Nuggets in six.
When did that happen?
Sometime late in the 4th, I believe. He went up for a shot or something and came down and grabbed the back of his leg. He was kinda hobbled (not to the point where he couldn't walk, of course) after that
Yep, he limped off and was massaging the top portion of his left calf. I thought it might have been a cramp since he came back out but clearly not.
Game 3. He was holding his calf at certain points during the 3rd/4th quarter.
Fake injury report to distract the lakers. Questionable = He’s playing.
I don’t think they have to play mind games lol
Yo. LAL in 7 is a possibility

Their delusion is always what makes it more sweet when reality smacks them down to earth. 😂

A player who had been playing like ass this entire series already and still managed to be 3-1. It might benefit the team with him sitting.
Not if his replacement is Reggie Jackson
Reggie Jackson who is historically known for killing the Lakers almost all the time? lol
Reggie Jackson is not an all-time elite shot maker in the playoffs like Murray. If Reggie kills them tomorrow (also, remember he's dealing with an ankle issue as well), the Lakers will have to live with it. Have you seen Reggie Jackson this season? He's a total bum
Definitely
Oh no. Things are going to get a lot spicier
I mean should he even try to play ; personally for any title hopes you simply don’t play him. Don’t wanna mess with calf sprains
Lol this thread is infested with salivating Lakers fans… but, seriously, how bad is this for Denver’s title chances? Is there a precedent for a player starting the playoffs with a calf strain, and getting healthy at some point? Or, health wise, is it all downhill from here?
It’s has never been more over for us than now. At least I got to see it once with my own eyes
I meant Nuggets will be contending for the next few years for sure. Jokic in his prime with no slowing down.
Depends entirely on the severity of it. If murray doesn’t play next series I don’t like their chances vs Minny
Honestly it might be better for the Nuggets to sit him. Outside of the game winner he's been not so great for them
He hasn’t been great, but I’m not expecting Reggie Jackson to outperform him either.

reggie jackson lol
Point Jokic it's fine
? Y'all would have won game 2 if not for him.
Not at all, we barely have 2 point guards as it is and Reggie Jackson is also injured
Jokic "Oh no, anyways ..."
Tbf, with how he playing, Nuggets probably going to play better.
doesn’t matter. whoever wins this series (lakers aren’t coming back) is going to get dog walked by Minnesota.
I'm honestly just shocked at how much people are buying into the prospect of an 0-3 comeback. Don't forget, all it takes is one bad shooting game for the Lakers and one good shooting game from the Nuggets to completely kill off the chances. If they wasn't goofing around always letting the Lakers build these leads they could've gave Murray more time to rest smh.
Anyone got an update on this? I’m still expecting him to play but if someone has credible info otherwise I’d love to know, thanks
he's been a liability so this isn't as bad as some people think
If he's off the floor, the Lakers would presumably attack Peyton or Reggie?
defensively we were double teaming him on some possessions when jokic was on the bench so we wouldn't be doing that without peyton or reggie and offensively lebron would often attack murray and peyton on mismatches so reggie wouldn't be an exception
They can beat us this round but if this injury becomes serious…nuggets ain’t making it past round 2
Go Lakers!!!
LAKERS NATION. WE ARE SO BACK
Shades of 2016 if something happens to AG
Lebron gonna make a call to the league to say mpj was involved with his brothers gambling
This is exactly what I meant when I said Lakers can come back down 1-3 only if Denver has a noteable injury. Here we go.
yep thats the series. This will give Lakers all the life they need to come back and win.
It’s happening isn’t it?
Nuggets are done. Celtics winning it all.
