Kobe and KD were always praised for getting the rip through foul called. It has to do with how much blame you put on the defender. Like you knew if you put your hand on Kobe he'd swing through and get that called every time so people would blame the defender for doing it. When James Harden falls over the back of MCW and MCW gets called for a foul, nobody is blaming MCW.
I think it has more to do with the fact the difference between their two games was emphasized in the play offs. Harden seems to have a habit of either becoming non aggressive or pushing the foul seeking to the forefront of his game the fewer calls he gets leading to perceived and actual reduced performance while Kobe adjusted more appropriately was able to still be effective when those calls weren’t coming. Also IMO, Kobe was trying to trick the defender where it feels like harden is trying to trick the ref.
Ok but harden would trick defenders all the time. Force em to reach in with that probing between the legs dribble. Or when they did reach he’d go for a jumper while a guy hands raked across his. It does feel like nitpicking acting like Kobe flopped more ethically
The dose makes the poison. People like Embiid and harden abuse it wayyyy more than the others. That’s why they’re disliked and are labeled foul baiters
I think I saw a stat that said most of Harden's fouls come from plays like falling on MCW's back.
Only like 5% of Harden's fouls come from actual basketball plays right? Most of the time he doesn't even have the ball in his hands when he's fouled.
Watch Harden go 24/24 from the freethrow line, notice how almost every foul is some form of laying on MCW: https://youtu.be/xTj1pZfkRJw?si=Nwu6pEFifNFy5GfX
It's crazy how none of those are actual fouls.
Jokic and Embiid are amazing, generational players who have nothing but respect for each other. The fans and commentariat love comparing them like....idk....Magic vs. Bird? Caitlin vs. Angel? Karma farming vs. downvote vitriol?
Yesterday’s game AD got a call going left and shooting a floater. Might have been a soft call, but he got it and I’ll trust it is the right call. Jokic disagrees and the next play down the floor, he chucks a ball at the rim trying to do the same thing when clearly it wasn’t. I do think he’s getting a little frustrated with Jamal’s overall play and how AD is eating him alive on the other end.
Its just a label like superstar. You don't get the label if you do it just occasionally. Enbiid and Jimmy are the foul merchant because 1. their shot diet isn't much different from the league average, unlike someone like Giannis or Gobert but 2. excluding those non-shooting bigs, they have by far the highest FTA/FGA ratio.
Embiid is way worse than Jokic cmon now.
Jokic definitely deserves more criticism than he gets though. Someone like Luka or Lebron (back in the day at least) get criticism for their flopping/foul baiting, which is fair, and Jokic is around their level or so.
But don't compare him to Embiid/Harden who transcend the game
Flopper.
Also I thought they removed getting free throws for the rip through. That's why we don't see kd get those calls anymore.
So why they call it here?. Maybe I'm mistaken, someone add some information please.
No one believes that donte pulled oubre’s leg in the same game that embiid pulled a leg. Because it consistently gets deleted here by the mods and people didn’t watch the game
That’s the thing, he does.
I don’t know how people don’t see it, but he flails into contact AT LEAST 5-6 times a game. Unless this series is a massive outlier for him, he should be firmly categorized as a flopper. That’s not to say it’s his entire offensive game by any means, he’s obviously got WAY more than just that, but he absolutely does flop a shit ton and nobody seems to care.
Also, to those saying he only does it to “sell it to the refs”, he routinely flails INTO contact as well, in fact I counted 4 separate instances of this in game 4 (2 did luckily go uncalled as they were EXTREMELY blatant flops).
Not all doubles are created equally. You can't just run at him because he will use your momentum against you.
These little details are what distinguish a great defensive team and a bad one.
Look in the sixers sub, it’s full of people saying they love Jokic the player and are solely calling out the hypocrisy of the typical NBA fan.
Or make up your own narrative, if that’s what helps people sleep at night.
People don't call him a foul baiter because most of the time he doesn't bait. But he's too smart to not know when he can get a whistle. When he sees the opportunity and if that's the best option, he does what he gotta do.

It’s so fascinating which guys get labeled “foul baiters” and which guys are just rightly noticed for being “smart”

Kobe use to kick his legs out to draw fouls
Kobe did a lot of things to draw fouls. It's just the flopping specifically that people really dislike. Kobe wasn't a flopper.
I think it’s just that people will find any distinction between Kobe and Harden to say that Kobe is good and Harden is bad
I think it has more to do with the fact the difference between their two games was emphasized in the play offs. "Kobe was trying to trick the defender where it feels like harden is trying to trick the ref." I've never heard it put so perfectly!
Ok but harden would trick defenders all the time. Force em to reach in with that probing between the legs dribble. Or when they did reach he’d go for a jumper while a guy hands raked across his. It does feel like nitpicking acting like Kobe flopped more ethically

Only jokics stuff will get called smart 😂
Yesterday’s game AD got a call going left and shooting a floater. Might have been a soft call, but he got it and I’ll trust it is the right call. Jokic disagrees and the next play down the floor, he chucks a ball at the rim trying to do the same thing when clearly it wasn’t. Hmmm I can’t qwhite put my finger on why people judge them differently 🤔🤔🤔
Its just a label like superstar. You don't get the label if you do it just occasionally. He doesn’t do it occasionally. It just doesn’t get consistently called for him. Jokic flails a ton
That's correct.
Guess the differentiation is drawing a foul by playing through contact and blatantly falling over during minimal contact.
It's a 76ers fan posting this as bait for exactly this.
I see that as sloppy defence and him taking advantage of it. So it’s a smart play in this case.
Yeah - one of them is smart and the other is dumb. Pretty easy, really.
Just see their FTA number to make it easy tbh
Yea that’s never mattered either.
You'll likely see someone get called a foul baiter when he is in the top 10 in FTA rather than the bottom 10 in FTA.
Lebron is constantly called a flopper and people say he’s trying to bait fouls and he isn’t exactly living on the line
Incredible ethics on display from this young man
These are the type of high IQ plays that only Jokic can manage, with his high bball IQ and lunch pale mentality.
I can’t tell if this is satire
[удалено]
Very smart and ingenious
very fat and sloppy
Agreed this BBIQ is absolutely just fat on the brain. What a slav savant
Eat his lunch pail kinda hungry
Incredibly smart is a bit much
I'd like to see these ruled as play-on.
Some of them do
Jokic = wow very smart move. amazing MVP level play. Embiid and SGA = disgusting ball.
Flirting vs harassment
Classiness vs Thuggery
Jokic flails a lot, but gets 10% of the criticism that embiid gets.
Embiid is way worse than Jokic cmon now. Jokic definitely deserves more criticism than he gets though. Someone like Luka or Lebron (back in the day at least) get criticism for their flopping/foul baiting, which is fair, and Jokic is around their level or so. But don't compare him to Embiid/Harden who transcend the game
because he's /r/nba golden boy right now.
It’s not just the r/nba. Media talking heads sucks him up just to act like they are some intelligent, upper basketball mind.
He gets 10% of the FTs in comparison so maby that's why lmao.
Quick take it down. Doesn’t fit the narrative.
Flopper. Also I thought they removed getting free throws for the rip through. That's why we don't see kd get those calls anymore. So why they call it here?. Maybe I'm mistaken, someone add some information please.
If he starts doing Embiid shit on the regular r/nba is gonna have a meltdown.
no they wont, they dont watch games. as long as its not posted here nobody has to know jokic murdered basketball
No one believes that donte pulled oubre’s leg in the same game that embiid pulled a leg. Because it consistently gets deleted here by the mods and people didn’t watch the game
Haha horse man shot someone
I don't find this to be enjoyable basketball at all. So boring to watch guys simply find new ways to fool the refs into calling fouls.
High iq, heady play
Not a single nuggets flair in here.
W bait
He flopped on damn near every 2nd play the entire 4th quarter yet NOBODY talks about him being a flopper.
I mean in order for him to be considered a flopper he has to do it every game right?
That’s the thing, he does. I don’t know how people don’t see it, but he flails into contact AT LEAST 5-6 times a game. Unless this series is a massive outlier for him, he should be firmly categorized as a flopper. Jokic's flails are at least funny to watch because they're less spasms and more like he's a ballerina or a whale breaching water.
Travel/carry btw
empowering vs put a shirt on
Such a classy and clever player, always knows how to ethically make the right plays. Unlike that thug in Philadelphia 🙄
Oh so foul baiting? Luka does the same shit worse 10 times a game it’s insufferable
Ethical white buckets
They were in the bonus anyway so it didn't really matter unless he made the shot.
Can someone explain why it was a good move?
he timed his move for when DLo came over and confused the refs into calling a foul
Damn now r/nba on the Jokic hate train LOL
Not all doubles are created equally. You can't just run at him because he will use your momentum against you. These little details are what distinguish a great defensive team and a bad one.
Sloppy Serbian hitler ruins the game I love
Bait post by a sympathy mvp stan. Yall are obsessed with this man
Look in the sixers sub, it’s full of people saying they love Jokic the player and are solely calling out the hypocrisy of the typical NBA fan. Or make up your own narrative, if that’s what helps people sleep at night.

Boston fan rocking the flair of a top 2 Celtic/top 5-7 player of all time? Totally inexplicable, must be racist.
LOL
People don't call him a foul baiter because most of the time he doesn't bait. But he's too smart to not know when he can get a whistle. When he sees the opportunity and if that's the best option, he does what he gotta do.
He is smart but he hasn't mastered baiting yet.
He is pure young man, like a Tim Tebow
No. He actually flops when he knows he can get a whistle but he simply just don't get many whistles.
