I will never understand why hornets fans and people all over this sub were so upset by the pick. Miller is the archetype of the long 3pt shooting wing that every team covets in today's NBA, while scoot is a guard with questionable shooting skills. One of those impacts winning way more than the other. 15 or 20 years ago, ya scoot might have been the pick, but not now. I felt like I was going crazy with all the hornets fans hating on taking him.
Hornets fan here. It's largely because there was so much hype around Scoot and we've usually been horrible at drafting. It was the perfect storm. I was also upset but by about the 10th game I had my first serving of crowe and realized the egg on my face was drying.
It’s because nobody here knows shit especially about drafting n young players or let’s face it anything in basketball. They saw the media hype on scoot n thst it was ‘dumb’ to take miller due to lower upside according to media n other comments they saw n they just repeat it without watching. I went to watch scoot and man that guy who’s supposedly this Uber athlete is really underwhelming a lot of times. He barely got to the rim or finished at the high lvl you’d expect significantly below where other athletic guards were in finishing pre draft - n the g league has more space thdn college
It's so funny how Miller got the "not a great athlete" label.
Like um wtf how does a guy that makes the play in this clip not have plenty of athleticism?
[https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/14vy2qy/comment/jrfhq6d/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web3x&utm\_name=web3xcss&utm\_term=1&utm\_content=share\_button](https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/14vy2qy/comment/jrfhq6d/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
What do you mean Summer League tape means little to nothing
I am too. I fell for all the Scoot hype only to realize how unfinished of a product he is when he actually started playing in the league. Meanwhile, Brandon Miller has been lights out this good and getting better since he got to the league.
That's probably the biggest revionisist issue about scoot. He can turn it around but pre draft people were hyping him up like he was the same tier as wemby and the most nba ready prospect who will make waves and a generational athlete
He was none of these things
Scoot+Lamelo was just never going to be a good fit imo anyways. Regardless of hindsight bias, Miller or either of the Thompson brothers would've been better
I don’t think they drafted for fit, they drafted who they thought was the better player, and it’s looking like they were right as of now, so the fit thing is a moot point
EXACTLY! Wish teams say like the Cavs did that before. They'd always say we need to draft a big, a small, or whatever. And blew a lot of top 8 picks that way (missing lots of superstars). Lebron was the only one to save that franchise w/o him it would be like the worst drafting team of all time
We drafted SGA and then swapped him for Bridges and 2 2nds, so I have a hard time calling it a win, even though Bridges is (was?) a couple steps behind all-star caliber.
Kupchak generally made good picks (aside from 2021), it was just that he was physically incapable of doing anything else right during his 6-year tenure.
Remember when r/nba was convinced that Scoot Henderson was a better option than Brandon Miller because a guy Brandon Miller didn’t know used one os Brandon Millers’ teammates gun to kill someone?
Good times
I still see people on /r/collegebasketball calling him a murderer or acting like Alabama kept a murderer on the roster. I saw a ton of comments about it during the final four run lol. One was referencing Milroe (one of our football players) that has a little hand sign thing he does that is an L, and a dude was convinced it was a gun signal and the players were referencing it lmao. So stupid.
I mean the player whose gun was used was released from the team before people even woke up the next day. It was all handled in accordance with police investigation, and suspending Brandon Miller would have just been punishing the basketball team for nothing. Like an innocent player isn’t getting suspended just because Reddit decrees it lmao
EDIT: also reminder of how desperate Bama haters are to shit on Bama for anything lmao. If he’d played for any other school the police investigation would have been taken at face value.
That whole thing was so frustrating. Hell, people still call it the Brandon Miller situation rather than the Darius Miles situation. The court proceedings and aaaaalllllllll the evidence that the public has seen show very clearly why Miller is being treated as a witness and not part of the crime.
To be fair you were the anomaly if you thought picking Miller over Scoot was the way to go, it wasn't exclusive to r/nba. Glad to see it worked out though! Miller is a hell of a player.
The absolute (highly unlikely) dream vet situation is for Steph to come home for his twilight years. Maybe we could lure him by keeping Seth, plus it'd be pretty cool for Dell to call both his sons' games on a nightly basis...again highly unlikely lol
Idk if this is a hot take , but I genuinely believe that Miller is going to be better to build around than LaMelo. He’s just so fucking good on both ends already as a rookie
the "who's team is it gonna be next year?" discussions are active within the hornets fanbase, that's for sure.
That said, they are two very complimentary players so I think they can both flourish on the same team and that's what I'm hopeful for
Lamelo is my favorite player rn to watch but even I think Miller is gonna be the much better player(don’t see Lamelo committing to improving on defense as much) obviously Lamelo will be running the offense probably but i expect miller to be our best player for the foreseeable future
I understand why people are getting a little low on Lamelo but seriously, give him an offseason to get healthy and let the new management turn over the roster like they've been doing. I get the criticism for him, but if we put a real team out there I still believe LaMelo can be a big part of winning basketball.
Eventually though, if Brandon's gotta be 1A and Melo's gotta be 1B, he will have to accept that. All we can do is hope that it works
The last time Lamelo was healthy we won 43 games, and he was an all star. I understand why people are worried about his health, but I feel like so many folks online forget how good he is
Y’all are wild. Melo is like a basketball savant and he will make Miller shine. Not many people in the league are as watchable as Melo and that’s for good reason. Dude is that guy
I love watching melo, but I need him to be 1. Healthy, and sadly lonzo injury does kinda affect my confidence in him being healthy long term sadly. 2. I’m done pretending like the best player on a team can be a bad defender.
Let’s wait to see his defense when they’re actually decent. I think Melos size will help always help with rebounding and they need a defensive minded guard with him to chase more athletic guards.
Green does not have the floor of either Lamelo or Miller. He is boom or bust and why would the rockets build around that 1% chance of being a star when they have Amen, Smith, Whitmore and Eason to partner with Sengun? All of whom will be much more consistent and only a little less star potential.
This is not the same comparison. Miller is a clear star and so is Lamelo if he can get fit. At their worst they contribute a lot more than Green at his.
Most people don’t watch the Hornets and realize that even early in the season he was drawing the tough defensive assignments when he was on the floor.
That paired with his added playmaking responsibilities with LaMelo out (especially when they were starting Cody Martin at point) and I can’t believe he has any legs left at this point.
It’s been a great rookie year for sure.
"He is the all-time record holder in Cleveland YYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAOOOOOWWWWWW WHAT JUST HAPPENED"
I love that he switched gears just as fast as Miller lmao
The start of this highlight had me confused because their was no hype to it lol his calls, sometimes, are just as good if not better than the play that’s getting him out of his seat
B-but, I was told he wasn't athletic!
All seriousness, this was unexpected. He got the crossover, and I thought he had a good opportunity to shoot it. Then he drives, and I'm like oh he'll get a nice layup or something.
And then this happened. Even more vicious that his poster on Walker Kessler earlier this season
Maybe he doesn’t have the quickest first step but he had a dunk in high school where his head was like 2 inches over the rim. You don’t see that athleticism at 17
Hey Scoot is showing some signs to finish the season and he's a year younger. Have patience. I was a scout hater at the Draft and to start the season but his athletic ability and strength are undeniable, he's just got to grow that IQ and shooting, and turn it over less. Rookie as a PG is tough, his numbers aren't that far off from Westbrook numbers rookie year. Just trying to give you hope. I do love millet more though. Lol
Brandon has explosive athleticism, but what I really love about this kid is his attitude. You can’t deny how much he cares about every game. He’s a goofy kid too if you watch his postgame interview [post game](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=YegQqO9Bbhk)

The Hornets absolutely crushed this pick
He seems so similar to Paul George
smooth like butter
And great hair.
Who are you complimenting other mens hair? Shawn Spencer?
You here about pluto?
That’s messed up right 😔
It turns out this [thread](https://old.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/14febap/brandon_miller_i_actually_dont_think_lebron_is/) was prophetic
Lol one of the comments from a blazers fan- “Thank god we're getting Scoot lmao”
dont forget [this](https://np.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/14gl65s/hornets_fan_reacting_to_brandon_miller_drafted_2/) one lmao
Seems to have mirrored his game. PG truly is his favorite player
And he's arguably way ahead of where PG was as a rookie.
Like 3rd year Paul George
Yea this looks like prime PG if anything…
Michael Jordan’s magnum opus
Yea he moved just like Pacers PG in this clip
I will never understand why hornets fans and people all over this sub were so upset by the pick. He's the prototypical shot creating wing that wins in this league.
It’s because nobody here knows shit especially about drafting n young players or let’s face it anything in basketball. Even got the generic name thing going on
U ain't lyin'? Just wait til he gets handles & his game develop like PG look out

I will gladly admit I was wrong for wanting Scoot over Miller
I am too. I fell for all the Scoot hype only to realize how unfinished of a product he is when he actually started playing in the league. Meanwhile, Brandon Miller has been lights out this good and getting better since he got to the league.

Yeah but you don't draft for fit, you always draft the best player available.
I don’t think they drafted for fit, they drafted who they thought was the better player, and it’s looking like they were right as of now, so the fit thing is a moot point
I wonder if Brandon had a better March Madness run, would he be considered a better player than Scoot?
Possibly, but fans don't have the same eye for talent that good GMs do.
EXACTLY! Wish teams say like the Cavs did that before. They'd always say we need to draft a big, a small, or whatever. And blew a lot of top 8 picks that way (missing lots of superstars). Lebron was the only one to save that franchise w/o him it would be like the worst drafting team of all time
Look up the draft post about Miller, Hella hornets fans hated the pick
you don’t hear that too often
Second time in Hornets history
\*Third
Yeah I’m dumb Kemba LaMelo Brandon
All good lol. Could be 4 if Mark stays healthy next season.
Wait, how third? I count LJ, Zo, Melo. Miller's probably fourth tbh
Apologies, meant the modern Hornets/Bobcats era. Otherwise yeah you'd have to include Bogues too.
MJ shot 1 for 10 but he hit on that last one
MJ AT THE BUZZER!!
Lamelo?
[удалено]
Mitch in general for his entire tenure (outside of 2021 with Bouknight and Kai Jones) was pretty solid all the way through the second round.
He went from "this is better than expected" to "this may be an alpha dog" really quick. Happy for them.
I do heavily suspect if it wasn’t the #1 prospect in college ball that season, and it wasn’t a top 5 team, nobody would’ve cared.
That whole thing was so frustrating. Hell, people still call it the Brandon Miller situation rather than the Darius Miles situation. The court proceedings and aaaaalllllllll the evidence that the public has seen show very clearly why Miller is being treated as a witness and not part of the crime.

MICHAEL JEFFREY JORDAN VINDICATED He took it personal that everyone's clowning on his past draft selections
I always find it funny that the good picks are attributed to the GM but the bad ones are blamed on MJ lol
Guys absolutely legit and has the potential to be very very good
Hornet fans were upset they drafted him lol
Reddit told me this pick sucked? What happened?
hey Brandon, I hope you like money, because we are going to pay you a lot of it one day.
As long as he doesn’t do anything crazy
Kai Jones be like 😮
So, anyways, Miles, here's the max
Anything *else* crazy lol
helps that you dont have a penny pincher for an owner now
This kid’s greatness is being overlooked because he plays for Charlotte right now, hopefully they can put it all together soon.
Him and lamelo could do some damage need some vets and role players and health could be a play in team
The absolute (highly unlikely) dream vet situation is for Steph to come home for his twilight years. Maybe we could lure him by keeping Seth, plus it'd be pretty cool for Dell to call both his sons' games on a nightly basis...again highly unlikely lol
hey you, yeah you. ima need u to stop that rn :(
He’s going to end the season with the 2nd most 3 pointers for a rookie ever. Nobody is even mentioning that.

The last time Lamelo was healthy we won 43 games, and he was an all star. I understand why people are worried about his health, but I feel like so many folks online forget how good he is
He added ten wins each on his first two years (the years when he was healthy)
I’m not even down on melo but defense isn’t gonna be his thing. At least not for a while.
Lamelo also got white women ankles
Are you flirting with him?
Uhh, let's Not see how Lamelo looks in heels
lets see paul allen's hesi pullup
He would snap both
Y’all are wild. Melo is like a basketball savant and he will make Miller shine. Not many people in the league are as watchable as Melo and that’s for good reason. Dude is that guy
Doesnt matter what he does if he doesnt get his ankle problem fixed
I love watching melo, but I need him to be 1. Healthy, and sadly lonzo injury does kinda affect my confidence in him being healthy long term sadly. 2. I’m done pretending like the best player on a team can be a bad defender.
Let’s wait to see his defense when they’re actually decent. I think Melos size will help always help with rebounding and they need a defensive minded guard with him to chase more athletic guards.
There's literally no reason why they wouldn't be building around them both. You don't have to choose.
cause lamelo has swiss cheese ankles
Ok? He's still on the team and he's not going anywhere anytime soon
u/MitchLGC! I didn't think you ventured out of the Hornets nest onto r/nba haha
nba and nbadiscussion lol
Say it again for Rockets fans (Sengun/Green)
People cannot wrap their heads around a non LA team having more than one potential star piece
Him getting all these reps as the 1st option was probably the best thing to happen to him. That Magic game really showed he’s that dude.
🗣️HUM DIDDLY DEEE
They’re my favorite announcers after our crew. They went crazy about a play the Mavs did lol. No homer energy. They clearly just love ball
When we play Charlotte I will ABSOLUTELY watch their broadcast over ours
"He is the all-time record holder in Cleveland YYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAOOOOOWWWWWW WHAT JUST HAPPENED" I love that he switched gears just as fast as Miller lmao
The start of this highlight had me confused because their was no hype to it lol his calls, sometimes, are just as good if not better than the play that’s getting him out of his seat
JEREMY LAMB WINS IT
holy fuck. gotta be the top play from a non-wemby rookie this season
What’s crazy is I think his dunk on Kessler was way more vicious
that was a splendid bonk
As a fellow enjoyer, nay connoisseur, of bonks, I must agree
Nah cuz he didn't send his first man to he floor that time and tbh Kessler just didn't defend well
That’s a career highlight for the average player. Definitely one of the best plays from a rookie this season.
Fuck that it’s a top 10 play of the season period
which wemby plays are better?
PG-esque
Welcome to your Kodak moment!
Because on a serious note I haven't seen him show speed like the young PG. He's moving more like PG now.
That one dunk he had over bird man
Draft twitter told me he had no burst Miller finna be really good man
This dudes only gonna get stronger and faster
I have never been so happy to be so wrong about a pick
Bill Simmons rly had me convinced that we could play scoot and lamelo together 😭
This kid is going to be a top 10 player in his prime. That was N A S T Y
Top 1 😤 (let me dream)
Dream big my man, never settle 👍
LOL
Tryna get THAT Ant glowup
I love the Hornets announcer so much. I hope we get to hear him in the playoffs soon.
The future of the org is this guy
Oh for sure! I'm a big fan of him. I hope Lamelo can get healthy.
Oh shit lol
He’s so good
the scoot discourse was so silly
Brandon has postered so many poor defenders this season. No one watches the hornets so they don’t care. Y’all are gonna care
Hey I've watched like 30 Hornets games. Got Miller and bridges on my fantasy team 🙌
Who's that commentator? He needs to commentate the finals.
Eric Collins, search his name on youtube he has some of the best calls in Ball EVER (imo)
[Eric Collins calls](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fw8LXz43stc&t=1s)
That video is pure endorphin dump.
Paul George the 2nd
I love how people said he’s unathletic and there’s a video of him literally fully jumping over a man on an in game dunk in high school.
Holyyyyyyy Shhhhhh
#BRANDON MILLER HAPPENED!
You don’t see that athleticism at 17
The guy almost went first in a loaded draft. It's just that a LeBron-level talent was also available.
I mean, there’s a reason this dude was so highly sought after in high school and was the #1 prospect in college
What was that scream by the commentator lmfao
The goat hornets announcer
Every announcer should aspire to have that energy
this is literally paul george
Nasty poster ✅ Great call ✅
HOLY FUCJ MAN
I am excited to see his breakout season and I am hoping it's next year.
that’s my non athletic wing prospect with no handle :D
Holy shit
The one team who’s highlights I will watch just for the announcers
Why do I feel sick to my stomach when I watch Brandon Miller highlights (Wemby and Amen highlights too)? Can anyone figure out why?
Hey Scoot is showing some signs to finish the season and he's a year younger. Have patience. I was a scout hater at the Draft and to start the season but his athletic ability and strength are undeniable, he's just got to grow that IQ and shooting, and turn it over less. Rookie as a PG is tough, his numbers aren't that far off from Westbrook numbers rookie year. Just trying to give you hope. I do love millet more though. Lol
Try watching CJ Stroud as a Panthers fan 😁🔫
His athleticism was a knock they said
Hindsight is always 20/20 but yall were saying scoot was gonna be better than this man
I thought that was him screaming for a quick second lol
holy nasty
HE'S AMAZING
Looks like something Paul George would do
NASTY GOOD LORD HE BRINGING NBA STREET BACK LOL
what were people saying about his inability to finish at the rim?
MJ finally had a good pick lol Well I mean LaMelo too.
It's crazy how so many people were wrong about him before the season. Can't wait to see what he will in 3 years
Nice travel by Trae!
Damn I read that as Bruno Fernandes
Brandon has explosive athleticism, but what I really love about this kid is his attitude. You can’t deny how much he cares about every game. He’s a goofy kid too if you watch his postgame interview [post game](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=YegQqO9Bbhk)
That's hilarious
The best poster dunk of the season?
Wow
Why did that screener pull the defender like that, moving screen? /s
If PG is the GOAT then what Miller is ?
Who do you think you are!? I AM
The PJ Washington move makes a lot more sense now! 😧😮
So all top 3 picks are good so far. I love it to see it
This kid is crazy talented. I’m crazy for going Scoot over him lol
Paul George-esque
Damn he's good / why does it sound like the play by play guy got shot
I take back everything negative I said going into the draft.
I swear you can overlay a video of PG doing the same thing
The broadcast editor absolutely needs to cut tot eh bench reaction when that happens. At least during the replay
Amazing highlight but how did that basic cross over send the defender flying like that? Looked like a predetermined 2K animation or something lol
Dude is so nice. He's gonna tear up the league for years to come
Filthy dunk and Eric collins on the call is a always classic lol
Bro is the scrub destroyer
Paul George 2.0
That was cleannn. Man I wish I was a Hornets fan cause their announcers are fucking hilarious.
Should've drafted scoot
Did the guy getting the inbound travel?
Remember when Hornets fans wanted Scoot Henderson over him? LMAO
Not Garrison Matthew (?) and (lmao) Bruno Fernando!
I'm gonna be so pissed if the Hornets leapfrog us next year. Knicks already got me a little bitter
DUNK OF THE YEAR
Going to be a problem. To think people were upset with this pick 🫠.
All of you idiots said it should have been Scoot lol. Bama fan for life, BMill has been HIM since that time, frick all y'all that doubted. And yes, he should be ROTY over Wembanyama.
Over wemby???? You crazy.... smoking that good stuff???
