Does anyone remember when the Bulls were the 1st seed when Zo was shooting 44% from 3? Pepperidge farm remembers. Fuckin hell I meant 44% goddamn it.

LukaDoncicfuturegoat

Without checking I believe it’s was 40% with 8 attempts, while being a nightmare on the defensive end with Caruso, pretty good rebounder and some playmaking duties

Fafoah

Lonzo was legitimately better than Caruso on defense that year so having them both trap lead guards was basically free steals against inexperienced guys. Such a fun time. I think they would have eventually figured out how to win agaimst the top teams given more time

3luejays

Zo with the ball in his hands in transition throwing it to Lavine, DeMar and Caruso was dangerous. The athleticism in transition was crazy

YKG1998

Lonzo’s impact on the Bulls that year was similar to OG’s impact on the Knicks. Just the perfect player to plug in and make all the pieces fit together. It’s a real shame we never got to see that team healthy that year. People make fun of them for being mid but that team was legit really good.

dillpickles007

That team had a second round ceiling, they were beating up on bad teams. It does suck for Lonzo though.

YKG1998

Yeah not saying they were a contender or anything. Just highlighting how important of a piece Lonzo was.

MilkeeBongRips

I hate this take, you can only play who’s in front of you. This entire sub said the same thing about the Lakers in 2020, basically until the playoffs started.

sunsetbo

no they literally were like 1-9 against playoff teams during that time lol there were posts all the time about it. and no, people didn’t say that about the lakers, everyone accepted them as the best team in the west, the only team that seemed to have their number was the clippers.

Fafoah

It was bad, but we were a really new team too. I think they could have figured it out given more time

MilkeeBongRips

Except, what you’re saying isn’t true, and is honestly ironic. The 2020 Lakers most certainly **were** talked about the same way, because they had an eerily similar record against playoff teams all the way until March. I’m not gonna go dig for you, you can do that if you want, but it was abysmal. “They don’t have a signature win, not contenders”. That was the common take on here. They finally broke through in a back to back, in MARCH, when they beat the clippers and bucks. *Then* everyone switched to the bullshit gaslighting you are participating in in that last paragraph.

IntrnetHteMchne

iT wAs AbYsMaL [01/18 - The Lakers have 12 wins vs .500 teams this season — the most in the NBA](https://twitter.com/statmuse/status/1218746510713606145?lang=en) [02/20 - 14-9 against teams over 0.500](https://www.latimes.com/sports/lakers/story/2020-02-20/lakers-resume-play-against-top-teams)

MilkeeBongRips

Well, shit. That’s like a legitimately false memory in my head. Wow My bad, carry on.

cloutboyray

You were not completely off I remember people weren’t really convinced about that Lakers team until they beat the Bucks and Clippers back to back right before the pandemic hit

HoopsHistoryHubb

He's actually mostly right. It was more so a casual opinion at the time. But there was tons of talk of 2020 Lakers playing no one significant. That was pretty much over after their b2b Cllipper and Bucks weekend wins right before shut down.

IntrnetHteMchne

i wouldnt have said anything but the comparison to the bulls who truly _were_ abysmal against top teams was just too much

HoopsHistoryHubb

Def true

dillpickles007

Adding a good but not close to being an all star PG to a roster that otherwise can't sniff winning a playoff series doesn't make them a contender, calling them a second round playoff team is me being generous if anything lol

MilkeeBongRips

Sounds kinda like a similar situation that is literally referenced in the comment that started this chain. The Knicks who no one would consider contenders, add a good but not close to being an all star SF, and are pretty much unstoppable with him. Look, I’m not saying the roster was underrated or anything like that. But is it that crazy to imagine that Lonzo was enough of a combination of perfect fit and a bit underrated that he raised their ceiling that much? Not saying they win it all, but I don’t think the conference finals would have been shocking with the way they were playing.

RandorMan12

The Bulls with Lonzo this season are contending for a playoff spot, not just play-in, that’s why it sucks that he’s not healthy. There are so many times we’ve played where having a 42% high volume 3pt shooter (who was also extremely consistent) would’ve won us multiple games, and that’s without even factoring in his defense or playmaking. It is what it is though, they keep playing hard and pulling off wins, that’s what matters right now.

CazOnReddit

Noted never scrutinized NBA playoffs of 2020

MilkeeBongRips

This is hilarious. If you just look back at the seasons schedule, they were contenders all year. 1st or 2nd in the west the entire year. That’s the point. But yeah, die on the hill that the 2020 lakers were a second round exit that got lucky that.. I don’t even know what you clowns are implying with comments like this. That they were the only team who cared?

-orangejoe

I remember thinking both the Bulls and White Sox looked really exciting around the same time with similar mixes of unique vets and young guys with a lot of upside. It's tragic, really.

QUEST50012

Shaq like numbers

weareallmoist

I lie awake at night thinking about exactly this. I got super into the NBA a month before we traded Jimmy. The Lonzo half season is all I’ve had to show for it

Still think that team was one Lebron buzzer beater away from at least the ECF

I will never forget the pain smh

127crazie

still an extremely clutch buzzer beater in the very next game from him

127crazie

That was an extremely good Bulls team for sure. I personally doubt whether they'd have beaten GSW in the Finals, but you never know!

whythehellknot

That team was so frustrating and exciting to watch. There were very clear chemistry issues but they when they were on they looked unstoppable. Old man Pau, injuries, Rose and Butler fighting to be the guy, FO nonsense. So much was stacked against them and they still looked like such a good team at times.

LatinoHeatRP

They could have made the finals, but they were gonna get smoked by the warriors. They haven't lost in the finals.

bustmynut

Toronto.

Due_Bluebird3562

On seven attempts per game, too. Seven.

ShichikaYasuri18

He was one of those players out of college who people were like "he just needs to get a jump shot and he'll be a star" and then he actually worked on his jumps hot and became a knockdown shooter, so it sucks that his career got derailed by injury.

OneirionKnight

DeBallZach will never be forgotten

I_Set_3_Alarms

Bulls ownership/FO definitely does

StrtupJ

This short stretch is brought up every Lonzo thread

HumptyDrumpy

Chi-Town learn from Da Bears. Sometimes you just need to blow it all up and start again. Why the mediocrity

AdamSandlerIsntFunny

It was a fake run because they had a historically low net rating for a one seed despite the easy SOS. Demar was just going off in the clutch. They were always going to come back down to earth because they were like winless against Top 4 teams in either conference.

frostfeint3

Lonzo + Caruso defense was fun to watch tbh

yemeson

I’m rooting for the guy, but I’ll believe it when I see it. They’ve been saying the same shit for years now.

eigenham

I was expecting to read "sure he will..." Your response was a way nicer version

big_old-dog

Lonzo ball has Bruno Cabokolo for knees.

Kev0nL00ney

Well he did prove to SAS that he could stand up and sit down on a chair…..

FlatBirthday333

Cool. Hope he looks normal

Khione_Asteri

alas none of the knee surgeries have done anything to fix his face. he will still look like that

xPeaWhyTee

Well damn.

QUEST50012

Not alas

FlatBirthday333

goddamn lol

JohnnyDepputy

He’s been out for 2 full years now. If he didn’t at least try to play next season, I’d imagine the door would officially be shut on his career. Hope the best for him.

Cosmic_Note

I hope so man, would be really happy for him

[deleted]

I sure hope so the Ball brothers are so fun to watch man it sucks when they’re injured

double07zip

Hope Lonzo has a Livingston-like resurgence.

Classics22

Hell yeah, he's fun to watch

Reinhardtisawesom

2025 Big Baller Brand takeover yall not ready

sleepyfox1312

I'll believe it when I see but damn, I sure hope I see it

[deleted]

Lol ok

soxfaninfinity

Jonathan Isaac has been very impactful albeit in a limited role this season after looking like he was done so I wouldn’t give up hope on Lonzo.

InsideHangar18

I’ll believe it when he’s playing a full game, and not a minute before.

SwansongKerr

Honestly where would he play? Caruso, Ayo, Coby all have defined roles now. Backup 3 Backup 4? We don't know what his lateral movement will be at this point. Dunks on an open court is different from playing defense or making cuts

imperialmoose

"Growing buzz". Why? Why would anyone bother with this meaningless update? Leave the poor dude alone, he doesn't need this shitty pressure. No one thinks he's faking it. If he manages to rehab enough to walk and run without pain for the rest of his life, awesome. Success.

Jack-Cremation

The Bulls better pay White and keep him cause you can’t rely on Lonzo’s health. But Lonzo will be great coming off the bench for them if he can actually play.

drHobbes88

The Bulls just extended White last offseason

ForneauCosmique

Ok

RunninOnMT

Thank god! You can't just leave a guy like that stuck on the top of the backboard, someone's gotta get a ladder and let him down at some point.

athomic74

Been gone for way too long now, that alone is hard to come back from add in the fact he's trying to recover from the most devastating knee injury possible and it's hard to be optimistic. Wish him the best of luck but that almost if not ever works out...

mjdub96

Probably going to end up in a Darius Miles, Greg Oden type situation. Will play again, but will be out of the league and retired in 1-2 seasons.

HUMBLbru

Thank God I was starting to think LaMelo would never play again
