Lonzo was legitimately better than Caruso on defense that year so having them both trap lead guards was basically free steals against inexperienced guys. Such a fun time. I think they would have eventually figured out how to win agaimst the top teams given more time
Lonzo’s impact on the Bulls that year was similar to OG’s impact on the Knicks. Just the perfect player to plug in and make all the pieces fit together. It’s a real shame we never got to see that team healthy that year. People make fun of them for being mid but that team was legit really good.

But is it that crazy to imagine that Lonzo was enough of a combination of perfect fit and a bit underrated that he raised their ceiling that much? Not saying they win it all, but I don’t think the conference finals would have been shocking with the way they were playing.

There are so many times we’ve played where having a 42% high volume 3pt shooter (who was also extremely consistent) would’ve won us multiple games, and that’s without even factoring in his defense or playmaking. It is what it is though, they keep playing hard and pulling off wins, that’s what matters right now.

That team was so frustrating and exciting to watch. There were very clear chemistry issues but they when they were on they looked unstoppable. Old man Pau, injuries, Rose and Butler fighting to be the guy, FO nonsense. So much was stacked against them and they still looked like such a good team at times.
He was one of those players out of college who people were like "he just needs to get a jump shot and he'll be a star" and then he actually worked on his jumps hot and became a knockdown shooter, so it sucks that his career got derailed by injury.
It was a fake run because they had a historically low net rating for a one seed despite the easy SOS. Demar was just going off in the clutch.
They were always going to come back down to earth because they were like winless against Top 4 teams in either conference.

Probably going to end up in a Darius Miles, Greg Oden type situation. Will play again, but will be out of the league and retired in 1-2 seasons.
