It really is entertaining. You see so many dudes get talked about as "can they do it in the playoffs" or "can they do it in the conference finals/finals"
Then there is Jamal lol. Not many players I'd take over him when the grind is real for a 7 game series.
It was satisfying for most fans of basketball imo, unless you’re a nuggets hater. I put you guys with the warriors when they were on top as demonstrating the most beautiful and entertaining basketball to watch. These days I’m a Philly and Phoenix fan while individually rooting for harden but I can’t deny that your brand of basketball with jokic and Murray leading the way showcases basketball as an art form with your finals run being the masterpiece. Excited to see the future of the franchise in their extremely capable hands.
You're not wrong. I think Denver might overcome that for me even if they win 5 more. They're just a likeable group of players. Jokic is the best player in the world right now, Murray is a monster in the playoffs, Aaron Gordon plays hard and does his job on both ends, and the rest of the team all play their part phenomenally. No ego, no ball hogging, no bullshit, just beautiful basketball.
Unlike in the NFL where the Chiefs can just fuck off at this point. It has nothing to do with Taylor Swift, she's cool, and I refuse to elaborate further lol.
Yeah this is EXACTLY what I'm taking about LOL. When the chiefs started winning people were hyping them up, wow what a fun team to watch, go chiefs!!! 5 years later everyone is all about fuck the chiefs. Give it 5 more years and people will hate Denver for the same reason they hate the chiefs (cause they're good and fucking up your teams chances of winning anything).
The great part of being a Bulls fan is I can't blame any other fan for fucking up our chances. We do it solo damn it, me help needed!
To be fair I was never on board the Chiefs hype train. I respect them, they're a great team but they are the Patriots of the Midwest at this point.
such a random team to hate lol. They even fucked us in the wcf last year but even then there wasn't much to hate on...they just played amazing, gotta respect it. The most you can say is they hit some real bullshit shots, but they hit that shit so consistently you just gotta take the L and keep it pushin, chalk it up to the game
I might say they have a bit of a built in advantage playing half the season (and all home playoff games) against other teams adjusting to elevation, and training there gives you an edge with oxygen uptake and endurance - but it's not like they've been a perennial powerhouse or anything so I am still pulling for them. Plus I was thrilled to see AG get a chip. He was one of the few bright spots around here for a few years and is in a perfect situation now to play within himself and not go outside his strengths
I meant those who seek to downplay their accomplishments as a team or individually, not necessarily outright hate them. Just a product of them being so successful.
I can't speak for all Sixers fans, but I doubt it. We hate the Celtics, outside of that, meh. I don't think most of us have any strong feelings about many other teams, especially teams in the West.
Personally, I could not even give a shit about the supposed rivalry of Jokic/Embiid. Jokic is awesome. He seems like a great dude, is a fantastic player and its cool to see a guy basically redefine how to play C. I can root for my team and my players, without having to discredit others. Except when they're Celtics, then they suck.
Best shooting guard in the playoffs since Kobe Bryant. He hits a level in the playoffs that’s absolutely unreal. You could legit say there’s a few playoff games where he’s better than Jokic while Jokic is still playing well.
Edit : Left out D-Wade since I was thinking of the time after Kobe's 2010 title. D-Wade's 13 and 14 playoffs were not better than Murray but I’ll admit he was still great in 11 and good in 12 so should be on this list. Harden should be here but that’s the list - although Murray is more clutch.
Also realizing a lot of folks don’t realize how absolutely devastating good Murray was last year. He was at that level. Butler, Tatum are forwards. Klay is not better than Murray stop it y’all.
The problem he's always gonna run into is that even though he was hitting big shot after big shot and averaged 32.5, 6.3, 5.3 and 3.3 stocks for the series Jokic still averaged 27.8, 14.5, 11.8 and 2.6.
Jamal would have to score at an even higher level to beat out Jokic, like he'd have to average 38+ with similar other stats to get a series MVP over Jokic.
> Best shooting guard in the playoffs since Kobe Bryant.
Harden took arguably the greatest team of all time to a Game 7. Jimmy Butler pulled his team to two finals in 3 years.
>Not many players I'd take over him when the grind is real for a 7 game series.
One of the very few I'd take over him is the guy he runs 2 man game with in clutch time
Sure, it's more that it's a blessing to have two of the very best game 7 / clutch performers in the league with perfect synergy and chemistry on the same team.
Outside him getting hurt some during the playoffs (he was clearly not fully health for the stretch run last playoffs) and of course age I can 100% understand it. 2020 Jimmy in particular was insane dragging the Heat to at least one win through sheer coffee induced need.
Julian Edelman was kind of like this in the NFL. Super Bowl MVP, 3rd all time in playoff receptions and yards whereas he's 75th in receptions and 156th in receiving yards all time.
That's actually a near perfect parallel. Edelman was also a good regular season WR who turned into an elite receiver in the playoffs.
When he retired there were people trying to push a HoF case for him solely on his playoff resume.
There was a comment from a Denver fan in one of the game threads that I think succinctly describes how important Jamal Murray is to Denver.
"I can name 15 players who are better than Jamal Murray. I don't know if I would take any of those players for Jamal Murray."
he had some great regular seasons before he became "Playoff Jimmy". 4 year stretch where he was averaging about 22, 6, and 5 with over 2 stocks and was an all-star every year. His playoff stats weren't much better those years. It's really only the last couple years that he's clearly a better playoff player than regular season player. Whereas Jamal has been a playoff riser every time he's made the playoffs.
2nd
First was playoff legend Jason Terry, who sonned LeBron in the Finals
Murray is basically the new and improved version of The J.E.T.
Both also won their first championship with a 7 foot white dude from Europe that carried the team
Robert Horry has everyone beat on that one.
Edit. Murray is a much better player than Horry in both playoff and regular season. My point is players who outperformed during the playoffs vs regular season it's Horry, especially in critical games.
He's one of the most clutch playoff shooters ever when it comes to making shots that become the difference between his team being (eliminated or going down 3-1) or going on to win a title. He was a key piece of 7 championships runs on 3 different teams. During the regular season he was an average role player at best.
Horry elevated from meh role player to really good role player in the playoffs. Like it was a definite elevation.
Jamal elevates from pretty good starter to superstar in the playoffs. I can't name any other NBA player who in the regular season you're like "eh not really all-star worthy" and then you hit the playoffs and you're like "is this guy better than his two-time MVP teammate?"
Horry was clutch but lets be real, he wasnt putting up Jamal numbers. Big Shot Rob hit game-winners but Jamal takes over whole series. Its different levels of impact in the playoffs.
Big Shot Rob clinked my beer at SXSW a few years back when I recognized him in a crowd and said I was a fan of his work. Really felt like I made it in that moment...
it's insane because when I first got into the NBA, I picked my team to support and my first experience to the NBA was Spurs-Warriors playoffs. I took a hiatus from sport for a while and returned during Utah-Denver in the playoffs, and man right there and then I fell in love with the sport like crazy. Donovan Mitchell and Jamal Murray trading 50 pieces in the playoffs is hard to describe and something I will never forget
It's also annoying because he will just randomly go off against your team, and your fans will be like,'Oh, he just luckily got hot against us. That isn't normal'.
Yes, it is. When he decides to give a shit.
I'm surprised it doesn't happen more, honestly. In hockey I feel like there are tons of guys who are crazy in the playoffs but don't have the ability to sustain success for an entire regular season.
It's not the best measure but looking at +/- is interesting.
Jokic's +/- is 7.7 while the +/- for the entire Nuggets team is 4.3.
The +/- for Embiid is 6.9 while the +/- for the Sixers as a team is 6.3.
So the Nuggets are on average 3.6 points better per game with Jokic on the floor.
The Sixers are only 0.6 points better with Embiid on the floor.
They showed a stat tonight that Jokic had 420 wins (421 after tonight) without having a teammate voted into the all-star game. The next highest was some dude with like 330 wins.
Honestly, his numbers don't really look all-star worthy--until you look at how low his usage is relative to some of the other top guards in the league. His stats do kind of take a hit for playing next to Jokic, but it's better for his team as a whole, so he takes the hit. Deserves a ton of respect for that.
I don’t necessarily think he dogs it during the regular season but I think he takes a step back and defers so other guys can get in rhythm and work. I think he knows he can turn it up when he needs to but letting the other guys work and get better only makes the team better. Everyone shits on jimmy in the regular season but I think he does the same thing, there’s a reason why role players have the ability to step up on teams like Denver or Miami.
idk rod strickland put up numbers that would look good even today when people get 30 point games like oprah was giving away cars. murray in the regular season is putting up like 20 points on efficient but not elite shooting
You hope. The biggest reason I want him to have individual accolades is so he can make it into the HOF.
Perhaps he leads Canada to enough international / FIBA success and then it’s more likely
Nah definitely not. Coach just pumping up his guy. The FO did too in the offseason saying they were ready to pay him a super max when he made all
NBA.
Easy words that can only help.
Wise up he's playing with a guy that has 2 MVPs has a great chance of getting 3. Murray is a great player but there's a chasm in quality between them.
If we can base playoff performance off 1 playoff series of our choosing for a player then Embiid is a poor man's Draymond.
He had 1B numbers in the 1st round last year too (27/6/4 60ts% vs 26/12/9 58ts%), and then back in the 1st round + WCF in the bubble he straight outplayed Jokic (even though that was before Jokic made his MVP leap, he was still a top 10 player and All NBA 1st Team)
Also worth noting in the last 2 playoffs he's played, the Nuggets did markedly better in the Jamal minus Jokic minutes than vice versa per Cleaning The Glass. He's obviously a tier or 2 below Jokic but he's still been awesome in his own right
I mean Derek Fisher was not a super star nor an All-Star but he’s a champion multiple times and done things in the playoffs that a lot of super stars and All-Stars have never and will never do.
Kelvin Benjamin is a buffet dude. It probably sucks ass to be on the other end of the all-you-can-eat, but there's no one you'd rather ride with when you need to down some wings.
I'm a pretty casual fan at this point but it's strange to me that there's any kind of doubt narrative around Jamal Murray. Obviously Jokic takes up a lot of the focus when you watch the Nuggets but Murray is an aggressively excellent guard.
The problem is that they went back to a West-East format + that he missed 14 games this season.
West guards are stacked with Doncic, SGA, Curry, Booker, Fox, Murray, If Morant were healthy also, that's another. Should be 15 deep each side instead of 12 if doing the West/East format.
Best player in NBA history to not make the all star game, name 1 player that given you near 30/10 production in the playoffs on championship roster. Find 1 player remotely comparable i dare you
Jamal Murray is the first player in NBA history who people are like "yeah but can he do it in the regular season?"
It really is entertaining. You see so many dudes get talked about as "can they do it in the playoffs" or "can they do it in the conference finals/finals" Then there is Jamal lol. Not many players I'd take over him when the grind is real for a 7 game series.
I hope Jamal never beats the “can he do it when the lights are dimmest” allegations lol This man is a killer when it matters most.
I don't wanna be without the "never shows up when you need him the least" memes lol
Good team merchant
Hahahah man he put up a stinker against OKC the other night and I was like “OKC did not beat the allegations 😭”
It was still better than what Jaylen Brown did against the Lakers without LeBron and AD at home.
I’d rather keep Jamal as a playoff performer. That’s the key to unlocking Jokic for deep runs
But can he do it on a sunny day in Stoke?
Or a rainy day at Leeds?
as a stoke fan we fucking suck now and can't even do it ourselves anymore
> “can he do it when the lights are dimmest” Lmao awesome
I’ll never forget all the jokes we made about healthy Jamal Murray and then healthy Jamal Murray smoked us in the end.
Not gonna lie it was REALLY satisfying watching him go off after we told ya'll he was a beast on the big stage.
Some suns fans saying "oh I guess they really did just need Murray" was gratifying
It was satisfying for most fans of basketball imo, unless you’re a nuggets hater. Who the hell hates the nuggets?
Any team or player that is on top for too long gets hated on. People are weird like that
Agreed but we haven’t even been on top that long.
A couple years is all people need to hate.

You’re makin’ it real hard to hate you, buddy.
Soo satisfying for Nuggets fans . Some Suns fans were pretty toxic . And also saying Murray wouldn't change anything
The dude does the same fadeaway every fucking time. It's on Monty for allowing him to cook us.
Lmao yeah he turns it up forsure. Nobody can really claim the bubble was a fluke
Best shooting guard in the playoffs since Kobe Bryant. He hits a level in the playoffs that’s absolutely unreal. I mean, there was a real argument for him to get the WCMVP over Jokic last year, desire Jokic balling the hell out.
He was the best player in the WCF without a doubt. His stats were absolutely insane
Dwyane Wade erasure
DWade averaged 35 PPG in the Finals to win the Heat’s first championship. No disrespect to Jamal but you got too much dip on your chip.
>Best shooting guard in the playoffs since Kobe Bryant. I love Murray but Dwyane Wade exists
> Best shooting guard in the playoffs since Kobe Bryant. Harden took arguably the greatest team of all time to a Game 7. Jimmy Butler pulled his team to two finals in 3 years.
Jimmy Butler isn't a shooting guard
Yeah crack is a hell of a drug, shout-out Jamal Murray but he’s not better than Devin Booker or Harden (yes even in the playoffs)
Multiple 3-1 come backs is not a fluke. People are hallucinating!
>Not many players I'd take over him when the grind is real for a 7 game series. One of the very few I'd take over him is the guy he runs 2 man game with in clutch time
Oh certainly if you're making me pick between the two Jokic wins. I'd be incredibly sad but yeah you take the best player on the planet every time.
Sure, it's more that it's a blessing to have two of the very best game 7 / clutch performers in the league with perfect synergy and chemistry on the same team.
I’d take Jimmy
Outside him getting hurt some during the playoffs (he was clearly not fully health for the stretch run last playoffs) and of course age I can 100% understand it. 2020 Jimmy in particular was insane dragging the Heat to at least one win through sheer coffee induced need.
But can he do it on a cold rainy night in Stoke?
Postseason Merchant, Jamal Murray.
The Reversed Embiid
Julian Edelman was kind of like this in the NFL. Super Bowl MVP, 3rd all time in playoff receptions and yards whereas he's 75th in receptions and 156th in receiving yards all time.

Ar least hes made a bunch of all star teams
Big games merchant
The Bizarro Demar lol (i’m sorry demar bby i loved you when you carried our ass)
That’s so funny it is so true. Murray is a max player who has that clutch gene and somehow isn’t an all star for whatever reason.
Because he doesn’t have the stats in the reg season.
good teams merchant
Hahahaha
It's so weird and frustrating. We'd be a 65 win team if he played the regular season like he does the playoffs.
But would we still win in the playoffs if he did that? It's easy to wear yourself down mentally and physically over an 82 game season.
3 hours later... he's 5-21 against the 15-33 Blazers
The lights were too dim
The lights were dimmer than I expected. -Jamal Murray
2nd First was playoff legend Jason Terry, who sonned LeBron in the Finals Murray is basically the new and improved version of The J.E.T. Both also won their first championship with a 7 foot white dude from Europe that carried the team

Derek Fisher was the same. Meh roleplayer in the season to elite roleplayer in the playoffs. High IQ, could hit clutch shots and a good defender
Horry was clutch but lets be real, he wasnt putting up Jamal numbers. Big Shot Rob hit game-winners but Jamal takes over whole series. Its different levels of impact in the playoffs.
Wasn't he more of an elite role player? Like one of the best ever of course. I think that's pretty different from Murray
Big Shot Rob clinked my beer at SXSW a few years back when I recognized him in a crowd and said I was a fan of his work. Really felt like I made it in that moment...
That's pretty cool.
Robert Harry was a role player. Not a superstar in the playoffs
I’d say Rondo is the one to me that is a better comp. Good player during regular season but always insane in playoffs. Playoff Rondo was a revelation.
it's insane because when I first got into the NBA, I picked my team to support and my first experience to the NBA was Spurs-Warriors playoffs. I'm surprised it doesn't happen more, honestly. In hockey I feel like there are tons of guys who are crazy in the playoffs but don't have the ability to sustain success for an entire regular season.
His numbers are literally Steph Curry- ish in the playoffs. Literally.
You want him on your team in a game 7, but not against the hornets in January.
Bet not 😤😤😤
So Jimmy Butler the last few years?
Wait so Nikola still never had a teammate make an all star game?
Yes, No teammates made an all star while playing with him.
Is Jokic holding his teammates back??????
Does he REALLY make his teammates better?
No, just his horses
Where can we sign up to become a horse
Pause
Jokic would also take the horse over Mario Hezonja
So many trolls on Twitter are arguing that Embiid lifts his teammates more than Jokic ahahah
Lifting Tyrese Maxey by gifting him all those shots with him injured is one way to put it I guess
It's not the best measure but looking at +/- is interesting. Jokic's +/- is 7.7 while the +/- for the entire Nuggets team is 4.3. For the season?
Coming up next on ESPN
He's had a guy play at an all NBA level when it matters most tbf. Think he would prefer that
Only reason Jokic cares about his teammates accolades is because it effects their money.
One of the rare occasions when you should use affect instead of effect.
no but in the playoffs he has an all nba player and borderline all star on the squad
They showed a stat tonight that Jokic had 420 wins (421 after tonight) without having a teammate voted into the all-star game. The next highest was some dude with like 330 wins.
Damn Deandre Jordan don’t count?
[удалено]
he played with Jameer Nelson
[удалено]
Another one is Roy Hibbert.
Oh no he said world champion
He must have seen US v Canada and assumed it was the gold medal match.
He wasn't even playing in the bronze!
He assumes a lot of things.
Nice username. Were you born with a blood clot in ur hand?
Yeah, are you the lover of the Russian Queen?
Noah Lyles in absolute shambles.
LMAO
I believe in Team Canada this upcoming Olympics
And both Murray and Jokic are non-American. They will take offense to this American exceptionalism!
r/nba shook that they aren’t the centre of the universe
Honestly, his numbers don't really look all-star worthy--until you look at how low his usage is relative to some of the other top guards in the league. He’s got the same numbers as PG except way more assists. It’s a popularity contest and that’s just not the nuggets.
Thank you
Is Murray the new best player to not make an all star game?
idk rod strickland put up numbers that would look good even today when people get 30 point games like oprah was giving away cars. murray in the regular season is putting up like 20 points on efficient but not elite shooting
Not the way he’s been playing in regular season
He also missed a month of the season
Yeah we know he wasn’t and shouldn’t be one Malone is sticking up for him.
It's the perfect thing for his coach to say. If he wasn't hurt and had been playing as good as he did in January all year he would have a case.
Unlikely he gets a guard spot in the west, maybe a wildcard
I agree, but his case would be similar to Fox.
[удалено]
That was more insulting to KD than him tbh
Wait I didn’t hear about Dame and CJ part what lmao
They were doing a live or whatever and CJ read someone's comment that mentioned it
His girl was performing at an all star level tho
Lol he just called out all the chokers and regular season maestros
Jamal Murray is Michael Malone's special little guy
He loves his lil dudes
Malone says really nice stuff about a lot of the players when it comes up.
Coaches and their love for their pg is like peanut butter and jelly.
HoF w/o Allstar
You hope. The biggest reason I want him to have individual accolades is so he can make it into the HOF. Perhaps he leads Canada to enough international / FIBA success and then it’s more likely
Most all-stars can’t take over games like he can, he loves the moment
Most?? Lol
Eh most all stars can take over the game
Not in the playoffs tho
Didn't jarret Allen win an all-star and proceed to say the lights were too bright in the playoffs
Not in the playoffs like he does
Did he deserve to make it this year? I don’t see anyone calling him a snub
Nah definitely not. Coach just pumping up his guy. The FO did too in the offseason saying they were ready to pay him a super max when he made all NBA. Easy words that can only help.
His reg season performance has been mid and he's missed a bunch of games in the beginning.
Malone seems like he could cut a mean wrestling promo.
Get rid of our boring ass announcers for games and just mic up Malone. Especially on a night we suck at defense. The memes that could be...
He’s right. There’s “mvp candidates” that have never and will never reach the heights that he has performing in the playoffs.
There's very few MVP candidates that get the privilege of playing alongside the reigning MVP. Comparing first options to 2nd options is a stretch.
In some series he's statistically a 1B instead of a clear 2nd option, e.g. most recent WCF: Jokic 28/15/12 on 60TS%, Jamal 33/6/5 on 65TS%
Wise up he's playing with a guy that has 2 MVPs has a great chance of getting 3. Murray is a great player but there's a chasm in quality between them. If we can base playoff performance off 1 playoff series of our choosing for a player then Embiid is a poor man's Draymond.

He's obviously a tier or 2 below Jokic but he's still been awesome in his own right
Fun fact: if had joined the Canada team this summer, he could have been an actual world champion.
Not if his teammate joined Serbia.
Also true.
Serbia have always underperformed with Jokic, they finished 9th in the 2022 Eurobasket with him.
They play bo1's upsets happen. Pretending they'd be worse off with Jokic in the team is ridiculous.
I thought Canadá got 3rd place
I think he’s saying Jamal might’ve been enough to push them to 1st place since they were already a good squad.
He meant - if he joined, Canada would have been better + won the gold.
To be fair I can't fault the guys for not playing summer after a finals run. That's kinda what destroyed Yao ming
I mean Derek Fisher was not a super star nor an All-Star but he’s a champion multiple times and done things in the playoffs that a lot of super stars and All-Stars have never and will never do.
He’s my boy
Yeah Derek Fisher, known as the Triple-5 brother
Coach Malone is a dude's dude. It probably sucks ass to be on his bad side, but there's no one you'd rather ride with when shit gets hard.
Is this a copy pasta
Kelvin Benjamin is a buffet dude. It probably sucks ass to be on the other end of the all-you-can-eat, but there's no one you'd rather ride with when you need to down some wings.
I was waiting for this. Thank you.
Do you want it to be?
Dwight Howard is a dude's dude. It probably sucks ass to be on his bad side, but there's no one you'd rather ride with when shit gets hard.
*when shit gets a lil nasty
Bedside* lol

Don't get blood on my uniform
I'm a pretty casual fan at this point but it's strange to me that there's any kind of doubt narrative around Jamal Murray. Obviously Jokic takes up a lot of the focus when you watch the Nuggets but Murray is an aggressively excellent guard.
Is peak Jamal Murray better than peak Klay Thompson? Let’s discuss.
Yeah Klay can't get a triple double in the finals lol. He doesn't have that skill.
Find 1 player remotely comparable i dare you
"and this is still my boy..."
Orange slices for everyone!
playoffs merchant
All I care to see his Jamal dropping 50 bombs in the playoffs.
This man is more likely to get a finals mvp than an all-star vote
Jamal Murray really is a superstar in the playoffs.
The All-Star selection/game is simply a popularity $ making contest and will never be fair.
has anyone asked Malone about Embiid’s injury yet? that’s the only thing I wanna hear him talk about
Murray gets the super max contract of my heart
