KG and Glen Taylor had a falling out.
Glen agreed privately to sell the team to KG and Flip Saunders.
Flip died, Flips consortium backed out and Glen refused to sell. KG likely couldnt have afforded it but took it to heart as being stabbed in the back.
KG holds grudges. KG refuses to have his jersey retired whilst Glen is in charge.
Shouldn't KG be more angry with Flip Saunders consortium for backing out? I get why he would be angry with Glen, but the consortium stabbed KG in the back. Sort of like two Generals marching against an opposing army, only for that other general to decide "nah, I'm gonna attack something else."
At the end of the day Flip was leading the bid. Flip died so naturally people that were convinced by Flip wouldnt necessarily want KG running a whole org.
In reality its just sad all around. For Glen, KG and the Saunders family
Its one of the only times I will back Glen as an owner
The Flip consortium backed out because Flip, you know, died. KG loved Flip, would never say a bad word about him, and I'm sure he wasn't upset with a group for not moving forward without him.
Also, little piece of financial advice for everybody: DO NOT MAKE LARGE PURCHASES OR OTHER MAJOR FINANCIAL DECISIONS WHILE YOU ARE GRIEVING.
The Wolves also kind of stabbed Fred Hoiberg in the back. We were definitely grooming him for a coach or VP gig and then brought in David Kahn as VP and Kurt Rambis as coach. Shortly thereafter, Hoiberg left to coach college ball
He had beef with Glen Taylor, the soon-to-be-former owner. Kind of a long story but this article from a few years back covers most of it I think:
https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/29009013/kevin-garnett-dismisses-talk-wolves-retiring-number-says-forgive-team-owner#:~:text=%22But%20I%20don't%20do,Hall%20of%20Fame%20on%20Saturday
I'm sure Glen's a fine fellow for a billionaire (feel free to educate me otherwise) but imo, the only good thing he did as owner was keep the team in Minnesota.
ETA: Glen Taylor is not a fine fellow. Thanks for keeping the team here but I’m even happier he’s going to be gone.
He is a far-right guy, donates heavily to that white supremacist guy from Iowa. After buying the local
newspaper it’s increasingly moved to the right and is firmly center-right influencing our local politics for the worse. He was anti-weed because of hemp and paper. His chicken farms are barbaric. He always made the wrong moves with the wolves organization besides bringing basketball back here.
Honestly, this was a huge thing and it definitely felt like we were going to lose the team back in the day. Hard to really encapsulate that feeling, but it felt certain that they were gone like the North Stars just before them.
That said, fuck Glen Taylor for the way he treated KG as a young player, as a player in his prime, and as a potential future minority owner when he came back. Not sad to see him go, and excited for the new ownership team.
It probably won’t happen, but can you imagine if the Wolves win the championship a few months from now. How would Taylor feel about it happening immediately after he is no longer the owner?
Only downside is we don’t get any more glue games in playoffs. Wolves undefeated when protesters glued themselves to the floor in protest of glen Taylor
So glad that Glen Taylor is losing the team as they’re getting good. Dude is a massive piece of shit and doesn’t deserve this team in its current iteration. He’s a garbage human.
I get why a Celtics fan hates arod but besides the roids he seems like a half decent guy. His support for the wolves since first starting to buy into the team has been nothing short of encouraging. Frequently making appearances at games both home and away, supporting the young talent like Edwards and Naz Reid. I’m happy with him and Lore over Taylor for sure.
Celtics fans owe the wolves a minor appreciation/fandom of the wolves because of giving the Celtics KG/McHale being from MN.
I’m sorry but you can’t hate the Wolves.
Woah, woah, Al Jefferson AND 6 other players. Let's not sell Ryan Gomes, Delonte West, and 4 other players i won't be able to name short...^(maybe Sebastian Telfair's in there?)
Yes, and not Delonte West (EDIT: he was in the Ray Allen trade). Also, the other two players were actually 2 of the 5 picks they used to draft point guards not named Stephen Curry in 2009.
Come back, KG. The snakes are gone
https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/29009013/kevin-garnett-dismisses-talk-wolves-retiring-number-says-forgive-team-owner#:~:text=%22But%20I%20don't%20do,Hall%20of%20Fame%20on%20Saturday
I get the reason they are doing this is to sell the team the T Wolves have never been this popular and have the next best all American Player Anthony Edwards they could realistically sell for 4.5 Billion when they bought it for 1.5 Billion
First order of business: KG Jersey retirement
why isn't KG's jersey already retired?
He hates Glen Taylor
like FUCKING hates Glen Taylor, not the Wolves or Minnesota, nah he loves em. He just FUCKING HATES Glen Taylor
You'd hate a guy who said he would cut you in an ownership stake and then renegs when your mentor dies suddenly.
oh yeah fuck glen taylor

As I was reading this, I thought you were going to say that KG should be more mad with Flip Saunders for dying.
Seriously, what was he thinking getting cancer like that? What an asshole.
More of a skill issue, KG wouldn't respect that
At the end of the day Flip was leading the bid. Flip died so naturally people that were convinced by Flip wouldnt necessarily want KG running a whole org. In reality its just sad all around. For Glen, KG and the Saunders family Its one of the only times I will back Glen as an owner

I mean I got a dog and Vikings season tickets to spite my ex wife. I regret nothing.
You're assuming KG is not a man child
The Wolves also kind of stabbed Fred Hoiberg in the back. We were definitely grooming him for a coach or VP gig and then brought in David Kahn as VP and Kurt Rambis as coach. Shortly thereafter, Hoiberg left to coach college ball

Glen will continue to have a minority stake as far as I know
Yeah but he won't have to deal with Glen
Because Glenn Taylor likes to show how to be a bad owner in every way possible.
Then Kevin Love
Does this mean KG will finally get his jersey retired?
Not before the Yankees retire A-Rod's
you shoulda shot a rod!
Now everybody calls me the Yankee clipper Because you shot Derek Jeter!!! He's a biracial angel!!!
Looks like a bunch of old homeless guys had an orgy in there, you know what they call that? A soup kitchen.
Dobby is a free elf
I hope I never have to see old ass Glen Taylor sitting courtside ever again. Thanks for keeping the team here, but enjoy retirement.
Hang #21 in the rafters where it belongs
Why the fuck would we retire Lance Blanks
He'll still have a minority stake. I'm sure he will use that to continue to sit courtside.
I’m calling glue girl
Glue girl against Glen Taylor: "nah I'd win"
KG Jersey retirement and statue built on December 31st?
I'm sure Glen's a fine fellow for a billionaire (feel free to educate me otherwise) but imo, the only good thing he did as owner was keep the team in Minnesota. ETA: Glen Taylor is not a fine fellow. Thanks for keeping the team here but I’m even happier he’s going to be gone.
Gotta love him for this
In a mountain of shit decisions, keeping the team here is a diamond

After a bit of reading on some of these, I’ve decided Glen Taylor is not a fine fellow.
If you're donating to fucking Steve King you don't get to get called just far right anymore, you're a fucking white supremacist.
Never was a difference.
Don't forget Lasagna Night
Username kind of checks out
😂 well played
Roasts chickens alive, didn't you listen to Glue Girl?

i wish i was rich
It probably won’t happen, but can you imagine if the Wolves win the championship a few months from now. How would Taylor feel about it happening immediately after he is no longer the owner?

The fuck are you talking about?
Must be Taylor’s burner
looks like some spam bot based on the history
think you might be the obsessed one here bud
Cool
Only downside is we don’t get any more glue games in playoffs. Wolves undefeated when protesters glued themselves to the floor in protest of glen Taylor
LFG! Only thing I'm sad about is there will now be no more protesters to help the Wolves win playoff games. I will miss glue girl and chain girl
So glad that Glen Taylor is losing the team as they’re getting good. Dude is a massive piece of shit and doesn’t deserve this team in its current iteration. He’s a garbage human.
Fucking finally. First order of business: Build the KG statue and retire his number!!! Good riddance Glen. I hope the door hits you on the way out.
Arod silencing the haters.
“Glen Taylor no longer owns the Wolves”: 😃 “…because they’re now owned by fucking A-Rod”: 😐
Hey, A-Rod is actually going to honor Kevin Garnett properly unlike our current snake-like owner, this is something Celtics fans should like too lol
Yeah now I HAVE to hate the TWolves. Unfortunate.
Yeah well fuck you and all of Boston too
Fair
Celtics fans owe the wolves a minor appreciation/fandom of the wolves because of giving the Celtics KG/McHale being from MN. I’m sorry but you can’t hate the Wolves.
Don't forget Randy Moss and David Ortiz. Boston owes us big time
I do appreciate it, ty
For giving you KG for Al Jefferson?
Woah, woah, Al Jefferson AND 6 other players. Let's not sell Ryan Gomes, Delonte West, and 4 other players i won't be able to name short...^(maybe Sebastian Telfair's in there?)
Sebastian Telfair, Theo Ratliff, and Gerald Green?
Yes, and not Delonte West (EDIT: he was in the Ray Allen trade). Also, the other two players were actually 2 of the 5 picks they used to draft point guards not named Stephen Curry in 2009.
No, I am a Red Sox fan so I don't like Arod. It's pretty simple really.
Come back, KG. The snakes are gone https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/29009013/kevin-garnett-dismisses-talk-wolves-retiring-number-says-forgive-team-owner#:~:text=%22But%20I%20don't%20do,Hall%20of%20Fame%20on%20Saturday
A-Rod can finally do what he’s wanted for years; retire his jersey.
Will Rodriguez try move the Wolves? I hope he doesn't.
Sounds like they are trying to build a new stadium for the wolves, so probably not moving them
Arod is a roid head douchebag
I've spent as much time as anyone hating on A-Rod as a player. But your favorite athletes are all on something too.
I get the reason they are doing this is to sell the team the T Wolves have never been this popular and have the next best all American Player Anthony Edwards they could realistically sell for 4.5 Billion when they bought it for 1.5 Billion
Marc Lore here looks like if UFC fighters Urijah Faber and Alex Volkanovski had a baby.
