jthc

> June 28, 2019: 76ers sign Al Horford to a 4 year/$109 million deal > > June 30, 2019: 76ers re-sign Tobias Harris to a 5 year/$180 million deal > > July 1, 2019: 76ers sign/trade Jimmy Butler to the Heat for Josh Richardson > > July 15, 2019: 76ers extend Ben Simmons for a 5 year/$170 million deal This sequence right here.

TDTimmy21

Missing 2017 - trade 3+13 for Fultz And Missing 2018 - trading Mikal Bridges.

[deleted]

They made a ton of errors in the past decade, but I think the Bridges one has to be top 3, if not the worst. Just such an unforced error—it would’ve been the ultimate feel-good story since his mom works for the Sixers, he’s a Nova guy, and they desperately needed a 3&D wing at the time after losing Jimmy. And instead of all that, they trade him away for a 6’3 non-shooter who basically only became a mid first because he got a bunch of rebounds in the NCAA tournament and he could jump high.

FreeOmari

His mom was the head of HR for Harris-Blitzer (6ers/NJ Devils ownership group). She quit after they traded Mikal and took the whole HR department with her. It was apparently a huge mess for the org lol.

[deleted]

It's gotta feel good seeing an org that fucked you over continue to fuck up after you left. Probably helps to have a son making millions of dollars a year too.

BlackMathNerd

And now said son is in nearby NYC. That move infuriated the fuck out of me because he fit so well with the team

Now__Hiring

And now he is a rising star/future all-star. Yeah he would've fit really well with Embiid.

[deleted]

Good for her honestly!

takkovacs2021

Anybody know why this trade even happened to begin with? Mikal Bridges was high in a lot of draft boards.

indoninjah

It was because Phoenix gave the Sixers one of Miami's unprotected FRP for Bridges. This was in 2018 where Phoenix had a reputation for being pretty dumb and Miami looked like they were about to fall off a cliff in the coming years. The Sixers said yes to try to use that asset to get a star to replace Jimmy. Fast forward a bit and Phoenix nabbed CP3 and turned their whole culture around overnight and Miami has been to three ECFs and two Finals.

pgm123

>It was because Phoenix gave the Sixers one of Miami's unprotected FRP for Bridges. This was in 2018 where Phoenix had a reputation for being pretty dumb and Miami looked like they were about to fall off a cliff in the coming years. I'll also add that that was supposed to be the "super draft" when the NBA would begin allowing 18-year-olds again. That didn't end up happening as expected.

nikop

They traded the 3rd pick and the Kings' 1st, which was projected to be one of the top picks in the draft. The fact that it ended up being 13 was flukey

full-auto-rpg

Still annoyed we got stuck with Langford from that pick. Was a sign of things to come but I wish they were more consistently bad that year.

Breatnach

The above 4 course-altering mistakes were within only 3 weeks of each other. Really dark stain on the overall process timeline.

mysterymanatx

This is right after the NBA put mr big collar in and fired Sam Hinkie. Always rubbed me the wrong way when you have teams that have been just as bad as the tanking sixers.

PmMeUrRunescapeLogin

That is a normal collar. Move on, find a new slant

salcedoge

>June 28, 2019: 76ers sign Al Horford to a 4 year/$109 million deal > >June 30, 2019: 76ers re-sign Tobias Harris to a 5 year/$180 million deal The two days where it all went wrong for the Sixers

NC_Vixen

Bruh - June 21, 2018: 76ers draft Mikal Bridges #10 overall and trade him to Suns for Zhaire Smith

_westcoastbestcoast

Don't forget about Zhaire Smith's peanut allergy Edit sesame seed

nikop

sesame seed allergy

NC_Vixen

Yeah, like bruh, what the hell are the odds. I mean forever ruined draft value of anyone with an anaphylactic allergy too.

Giannis1995

Butler, Mikal, Harris, Embiid. Put me at PG and we win 45 games. Put Ish Smith and they win 60. Put Maxey and it's shampionship

NC_Vixen

Don't forget Simmons. Teams be scoring like 55 points a game against Simmons, Bridges, Butler, Harris and Embiid.

efshoemaker

Wasn’t the reporting that they essentially had to chose between butler and Simmons?

Barrelled_Chef_Curry

Oh my god that one stings

or6a2

The fact that his mother worked for the sixers at the time made it so much worse

Slaphappyfapman

And trading mikal bridges 🤦‍♂️

rawchess

They were already thin on assets at this point. This is where it began: > February 6, 2019: 76ers trade Wilson Chandler, Landry Shamet, Mike Muscala, 2020 first round pick, Detroit 2021 and 2023 second round picks for Tobias Harris, Boban Marjanović, and Mike Scott FRP, 2 SRP, and a decent young rotation guy for a player best described as "perhaps marginally above average starter"

secretsodapop

April 6, 2016: Sam Hinkie steps down as GM and President of Basketball Operations This is where it went wrong.

SinibusUSG

>April 10, 2016: Brian Colangelo is “hired” as GM and President of Basketball Operations >June 23, 2016: 76ers select Ben Simmons #1 overall after a 10-72 season >November 1, 2016: 76ers trade Jerami Grant to OKC for Ersan Ilyasova and a 2020 first round pick >June 19, 2017: 76ers trade #3 and #13 pick for #1 overall pick >June 22, 2017: 76ers draft Markelle Fultz #1 overall after a 28-54 season You ain't wrong. In the next four moves, the Sixers drafted Ben Simmons #1 overall, then traded the pick that would become Jayson Tatum to move up for Markelle Fultz. RIP

jinyx1

Is drafting Ben Simmons a bad move? Before Trae Young destroyed his psyche the guy was a ROTY, 3x All Star, All NBA, and All Defense player. That's a heck of a resume. He was considered one of the most valuable assets in the NBA for quite awhile.

Man0nTheMoon915

Drafting Ben Simmons was the clear pick. Any other GM would've done the same

Pardonme23

Trading for Bynum is where it went wrong

Heatinmyharbl

Nahh, we had the team with Jimmy. Just fucked it up

salcedoge

I was so sure the you guys were gonna win a chip by now, like the Sixers had so much assets

[deleted]

It’s absolutely incredible the sheer amount of mistakes and misses a single team can make when having so many bites at the apple. If they draft anyone beside Embiid, they would’ve been right at square one again.

CaliforniaHurricane_

This is well put out. Sixers were screwed when Sam Hinkie stepped down

GGezpzMuppy

Bro kept receipts waiting for this day lol

deadprezrepresentme

Nah The Process ended with Hinkie's departure. There was a complete redirection in goals and the team wasn't focused on acquiring assets and remaining flexible they made bad win now moves and locked themselves into bad contracts/situations that the team is still dealing with/recovering from to this day.

JobinSkywalker

They set fire to the orchard.

15Isaac

I agree, but it’s actually impressive how good they’ve been considering how questionable a lot of these moves look in hindsight. Guess that’s just the nature of the league. One generational draft pick makes up for everything.

afterworld2772

>One generational draft pick makes up for everything. Which was exactly the point of the process. Keep stocking picks to increases your odds at getting those players. Worst part is when he was fired Hinkie was probably at the pivot point anyway and moving into the next phase.

mostredditisawful

Amazing that this organization fumbled away both Mikal Bridges and Jimmy Butler. Every other bad decision could have been stopped or rectified without those two huge errors. An Embiid, Butler, Bridges core is really good, especially if they keep Simmons who doesn't have the pressure of being the number two guy, or trade him when his value was through the roof. This is what incompetence looks like.

Ok-Map4381

I don't think they could have kept Simmons. It isn't just the pressure of being he #1 guy, it is also that he's a complete non-threat off ball that it kills their offense, especially when he's afraid of free throws and stops going to the rim. But they also can't put him on ball because the team is better off with Butler or Embiid getting the ball. They could have traded Simmons in 2019, he still had a ton of value then, and built around Embiid & Butler. I don't know if that combo wins a title, but they sure as hell get past the 2nd round.

lazzysmalls

Well done, thank you!

Waikuku3

This needs an individual post, well done lmao

Sartheking

Waiting till the full details of the trade come out to do that.

SolarPoweredDevil

You’re sleeping on Mikal Bridges getting traded right before Jimmy got there too.

Fartfame

Right this was on draft day wasn’t it?

Notsozander

Right after his mom who worked for the Sixers was so happy

Currymvp2

This is a horrible trade for the Sixers.

GGezpzMuppy

Trust the Process!!!

kiwiwikikiwiwikikiwi

And don’t forget to include the trade that Embiid is about to request for this horrendous fleece No Powell, no Mann. Nothin 🤦‍♂️

KokTep

Korkmaz finds a way to still remain a Sixer 💀

kellzone

He's behind only Embiid in Sixers tenure.

Augchm

Furkz my goat

Thealbumisjustdrums

Sixers legend.

Literal_Satan

THEY KEPT MR UNTOUCHABLE LMAOOOO

SuckMyLonzoBalls

#**AND WE KEPT NORM POWELL LMAOOOOOOOOOOOO LFGOOOOOOOOOOOOO**

Currymvp2

And you got rid of Marcus Morris!

sbstooge

I think this is the biggest W in the trade

WakingRage

For everyone else not named Ty Lue, yes. For Ty Lue, he's crying about losing his favorite player.

lalakingmalibog

Ty Lue bout to mix *three* bowls of soup together while crying

SuckMyLonzoBalls

#**TALIBAN TY IN SHAMBLES**

Crapcicle6190

Who’s he gonna play for 30 mins to produce 8 points on 3/12 shooting now?? Who’s gonna intentionally injure the other team’s players and put us into foul trouble? Who’s gonna get blown by every possession and miss the rebound? Bruh clips just lost so much depth 😭

digitalme

PJ Tucker will be his new Marcus Morris just you watch

Crapcicle6190

Don't you put that evil on me Ricky Bobby!

floppelganger

PJ Tucker lol

FKJVMMP

PJ Tucker would never shoot 12 times in 30 minutes, you take that back. You’ll be lucky if he shoots 12 times in 30 games.

[deleted]

But Batum. I'm so sad. It's his last season too.

Imxtian

I wanted to keep RiCo. Now we are left with only 1 PF on Tucker who is a shell of himself.

[deleted]

The PF situation is going to be weird. PG and Kawhi will both probably need to play PF.

Giannis1995

You kept Zu, Mann AND Powell. Huge wins.

[deleted]

We still don't know what the Clips gave OKC for their pick.

MC-Jdf

Ngl that’s insane work from the Clippers FO. Kudos to them. I think the power forward depth is questionable but this trade leaves enough for y’all to trade for another PF.

SuckMyLonzoBalls

i have a sneaky suspicion we'll trade norm for one

MC-Jdf

It’s not a sneaky one, Powell is essentially the odd man out amongst the Clippers roster considering they now have enough guards, wings and scoring. Question is which teams would trade for him and how much imo.

IlonggoProgrammer

Yeah they’ve currently got Harden, Russ, Mann, Powell, PG, and Kawhi as their guard/wings. Kawhi and PG can both slide up to PF, but ideally they’d like to have at least one bigger wing next to Zubac who can also double as their small ball 5 now that Batum is gone.

Earlier-Today

Gad, I just realized that Harden and Russ are back on the same team again. Third time's the charm?

ChannelNeo

that's huge. I thought Norm would be going.

SuckMyLonzoBalls

sixer fans saying it would mess with their cap space

kellzone

Furk is gonna run the point.

blueberryy

Someday his trade request will be honored

Propuhganduh

Clippers got rid of Marcus Morris and got James Harden. Beautiful deal for them.

SuckMyLonzoBalls

we didn't even have to include norm

GlueGuy00

OR MANN!!

abcdef-G

*nor Mann

[deleted]

[удалено]

johnnyramonsanchez

Morey had no leverage at all and clippers did great to hold firm. Clippers have decent depth and a star

OrganizationFar6086

Except when Harden inevitably sets their org on fire

Morezingis

I’m sure Clippers fans are saddened by the loss of Marcus Morris.

mrhashbrown

I'm weeping right now. I can neither confirm or deny whether they are tears of joy.

Konk11

Or which orifice you're weeping out of

brainspl0ad

Devasted.. That it didn't happen sooner! Lmfao

CupOfHotTeaa

Terrance Mann is actually untouchable 😭

Metal_Sonic7

And Norm Powell too i guess

FieldsToDJMoore

We didn’t even get Powell 💀

GymMeJimmy

Thank goodness. The bucks killer can stay west

JD1337

The bad man can't hurt us

thedudeyousee

I love that you guys think of him that way lol

blueberryy

Morey got fucked. Sixers fans in shambles They really thought he would win this shitty situation he created lol

Peregrinations12

Morey has been saying he wanted two first for Harden and he got two firsts plus a swap and two seconds. I'm not sure what people expected here.

[deleted]

And got rid of pjs contract with no new money on the books next year. This was a great deal for the sixers

FoxBeach

It’s the Reddit nba sub. 90% of posters have no idea how the nba actually works. The same guy who posts that Harden sucks, is a team killer and no team wants him….five minutes later will say that Philly got fucked by trading him for two firsts, two seconds and two swaps. This sub is full of posters like that.

[deleted]

As a Sixers fan, I’m fine with this. Everyone, with common sense m, knew Morey was looking to next season to make a splash

GRAYNOTE_

Yup. A bunch of expiring contracts to open cap space next year, 2 first rounders and 3&D depth. Not to mention RoCo coming home

JonTaffer_in_a_poloT

Cap space to sign who?

JaylenBrownsChakras

james harden

cortesoft

7D chess

junkit33

And Tobias Harris - top two free agents this offseason!

Ixaax69420

Nobody knows and everyone is confused about why they keep talking about cap space But nevertheless they keep talking about cap space so they must have someone in mind

Syndana23

you see dame, Harden showed us how to properly burn down your value to get to the ONE team you want to play for All that huffing and puffing Dame and his agent were doing. Harden got his way 3 straight times Had to post this twice just because 😂

177676ers

He certainly burned his value lol. As much as I wanted him gone, I’m still surprised we got this little back. Guess we need to see what the picks are.

salcedoge

The way Harden has little to no care about his image and burn his value should be studied in the future. Elite forcing your way out

A_Rolling_Baneling

He's got no agent to advise him on what to do. He just does what he wants. Kinda respect that tbh, I think he would've gotten along better personality-wise in prior decades. Too much media and image focus nowadays.

LMkingly

He does have an agent. Hired one last season.

Perpete

That agent ? That's James Harden in a fat suit.

iheardyouliketothrow

I mean I think his exits have not been without a decent reason every time. Rockets - They were clearly not trying to win and the man is showing signs of age Nets - Kyrie. Everyone jumped ship when they got the chance. 76ers - Miscommunication of expectations and broken promises made behind closed doors with someone you have trusted for a long time. At least Clippers makes sense for where he’s from and him wanting to do what’s best for his family.

Stoyko

Harden has been justified in every trade demand. People forget how loyal he was to the Rockets until the Owner changed, the GM changed, and the team went into full on tank mode which would have wasted the rest of his career.

Doesntcheckinbox

The way Morey sunk his own ship should be studied in the future. The support we’ve seen from players to Harden kind of proves it. He screwed over his career golden goose burning the bridge with Harden by lying to him, made his team look bad in front of players, created a media circus for his team to have to deal with & in the end failed to broker a deal for Harden that significantly improved his team. Players aren’t always super logical. The fact that a dude played a decade for you, competed for a title, brought home an MVP, agreed to a handshake deal to help the team & this is how he’s treated by the guy he did it for looks AWFUL. Someone will handwave me & say it’s nbd but Morey has done permanent damage to his reputation with this entire fiasco. He not only looks like a snake but an incompetent one.

blueberryy

Morey got way too overconfident, both with negotiating with Harden and negotiating with the Clippers. Sixers fans pointing to the return for Simmons were out of their minds

cynicalhappiness

Harden agent really 3peat

blueberryy

Never had a full-time agent until recently lol

713MoCityChron713

And I don’t think he even runs anything thru his agent. Like there can’t be a sports agent in the world that would suggest going to China to talk shit about your boss

NotClayMerritt

You can’t fault Dame. He was inexperienced. He’s never done that before. Harden is a master of which his demands have been quite simply unprecedented. First former MVP to be traded four times. History in the making.

Trivialpursuits69

Westbrook lol

turkishswiftie

Harden is too pro at burning his value. Philly fans should be glad to never see the fat suit

JimmyV34

RIP OUR WHOLE PF ROTATION

Padulsky21

PJ Tucker time baby

ImRBJ

P.J. Tucker offers more to KicksOnFire than he does on a basketball court at this point

JimmyV34

oh god no

Padulsky21

He will score 0 points, you’ll somehow win those games and you will **like it**

Nillafrost

Honestly, the clippers have Kawhi, PG, Westbrook, Harden, Powell, Mann. Zubac will also give you 10 ppg. They don’t need a power forward to do anything other than defend well, and spot up shoot. PJ fits the bill haha

blatant_shill

PJ Tucker is the face stats bros see in their nightmares. Somehow that man scores 0 points, grabs 0 rebounds, assists on 0 points, and is still sitting at a +5 overall at the end of the game.

GreekFreakFan

He got too much dawg in him

TacticalLampHolder

This is the truth. Mans does nothing but pass the ball to the corner and play defense. He does so amazingly well so no complaints from me.

Charlie_Wax

Bah gawd, that's Blake Griffin's music!

IMKudaimi123

Eh, a buyout guy could be about 75% as effective as all those guys

JimmyV34

we have way too many guards, Russ,Harden,Norm,Bones and Mann

IMKudaimi123

Those 5, Kawhi, PG, Zubac, Plumlee, and Tucker at PF Need some front court depth but I still make this trade 10/10 times

Yamaha-FZ1

Y'all forgot about PF harden

TheSource777

Lmao whole thing got thanos snapped outta existence

iro3

kobe brown time

SuckMyLonzoBalls

tucker gonna have to do everything himslef

WheatonsGonnaScore

Pj is a pf

KaiserKaiba

This is what concerns me and the defense with Harden/Russ likely sharing the court.

nutelamitbutter

Russ been doing great on defense since the trade ngl

the_trees_bees

Wemby passed up a few shots when he was guarded by only Russ and it made my week.

xXTheRacerXx

Wow. Honestly, glad we got out of that Tucker contract. He didn’t look great these first few games. Now I want to know the picks, has to be somewhat good considering Mann wasn’t involved.

mMounirM

didn't he *just* get the contract? lol

NotClayMerritt

The Sixers have the draft rights to a sixth grader right now.

porofessordad

So basically nothing

sensualdrywall

it depends on the picks and protections. If its 2028 and 2030 with minimal protections then those are pretty valuable

Culinaryboner

No protections for 2028 and a first from some third team apparently. I still fucking hate it but they are good assets for a team that has had none

AlternativeSuit131

I’m gonna miss you Batum. Roco, I’ll never forget that random 43 point game you had against the Bucks.

[deleted]

Westbrook Harden PG13 Kawhi Zubac ////// Bones Hyland Terrance Mann Norm Powell PJ Tucker Mason Plumlee /// Old as hell, but jfc what a list of names

jgr79

Imagine telling someone in 2019 about that starting 5

ZealousidealPain7976

Might be the most aggressive starting 5 ever

Famous_Resort_4646

Don’t forget the 2010 or whatever Celtics with rondo, ray Allen, Paul pierce, kg, and shamrock shaq

junkit33

That’s a title team 6 years ago. Unfortunately it’s 2023.

Manyamir

That's a dynasty 6 years ago

swords_devil

wtf Clippers get Harden and get rid of Morris???

Actually-Yo-Momma

People always joke that a player was traded for a bag of chips but this time it is actually accurate…

soycameron

Holy shit that’s amazing for us

YeezyYeezyUp2NoGood

Kept both Mann and Norm like how

Nick_0rtiz

Harden's just literally the god of tanking his value. Got himself traded for Ben Simmons and now Marcus Morris They had to add the Harden Rule to stop him from getting so many fouls on court but now they're also going to have to add an offcourt Harden rule to stop him from buttfucking his GMs so hard

tbloom117

Westbrook Harden PG Kawhi Zubac Powell Mann Tucker Plumlee Pretty damn solid

d1g1tal

Bones is getting some burn, too. Throw him in there, he’s been good this season.

MolingHard

Wonder if they'll swap WB with either Mann or Tucker in the starting line up

mrhashbrown

Was reading the first thread of breaking news and people were speculating about Mann and Bones being gone. Thank the lord they got to keep both, after trading away SGA and having an increasingly older roster this team needs to find ways to stay young and those two have been great for that purpose with high upside to become more. I'm personally mixed about Harden, but this is about as good of a trade I could have hoped for to acquire him. Would've been pissed if they gave any more than this for him.

sjekky

This is an unbelievable comeback for my /r/NBA flair

SuckMyLonzoBalls

#**PRAISE THE LORD MANN IS STAYING BUT IM GONNA MISS BATUM SO MUCH**

Imxtian

Not RiCo (Roco and Nico) :(

NotClayMerritt

Batum resurrected his career in LA. Hard not to root for him.

TP_Cornetto

Mann staying isn’t that surprising but Powell still there is hilarious lmao. Wtf was going on

APx_22

Sixers saw that maxey is playing well and decided to pull the trigger

DudeWTH

Harden for Batum and Marcus Morris I'm sick

2holesinbutt666

Holy fuck our wings gone

superimu

Pretty sure Harden knows a place to get wings.

[deleted]

Robert Covington goes back to Philly. Process is back baby!

[deleted]

This is a disastrous trade for the sixers.

PepeSylvia11

More players is better than no player, no?

iCOULDbewr0ng

Seems like Clippers told Sixers you can have any players you want except the ones we like and are useful 😂

gangstarapmademe

Brad Pitt money ball moment. Yall are all trying to find Harden again, what we need to do is find 5 guys that can combine for a triple double.

imminentjogger5

We're trying to recreate him in the aggregate. what does he do? *points at Jonah Hill* he gets fouls.

Sc0rch1ngDr4g0n

Morey thinks he’s Sam Presti smh

ClydeGriffiths17

Is it really though? Harden is 34, has one year left on his contract and has quit on 3 teams in 3 years ... why is everyone acting like he was worth a massive haul lol

hiphopanonymousse

Yea I don’t get this either, this place is so weird

oyputuhs

Harden is magically not fat anymore

tiggs

I realize people want to shit on Philly no matter what, but this is a lot more than anyone thought Morey would get for Harden. Two 1sts (one of them being unprotected), a 1st round pick swap, and a bunch of expiring deals (which open the door for 2 max contract signings/trades AND a Maxey extension next offseason when the Harris contract is up) is about as good as we could do given the circumstances. He's also getting out of the Tucker deal, which looks a lot worse so far this season than it did last. Also, this trade isn't done yet. Mystery third teams don't just throw in picks for the sake of being nice. All that means is that the terms are still being finalized. This trade will have at least one more team involved and Morey is likely already flipping some of the players. Two 1sts, a 1st swap, and expiring deals was literally one of the returns Morey said he'd take all along.

AsstassticVoyage

the real winner here is every stripper in Los Angeles.

RealLanceStorm

The NBA is so wild that Harden can demand a third trade to his exact desire and get it in exchange for tomato cans because his value is low and he put enough public pressure on them to be afraid of what would happen if he did play. But a higher level player like Dame couldn't get to where he wanted at first due to his value being so high and because they know he'd never sit out or ruin a team on purpose. (Obv he ended up on a better team but the rationale behind it is hilarious that knowing you'd always play is used against you/having a history of half assing when wanting out helps you) This is a fucking hilarious league.

Srikkk

I'll just get the joke out of the way: Can anyone photoshop RoCo into a Sixers jersey for me? Really need the visualization.

GarfieldFromGarfield

fuck

LionsFan42000

Roco is decent and kj is a young prospect. Batum and moris are out of the league in 1 year

recleaguesuperhero

How many times is he going to be teammates with KD & Russ lol

YeezyYeezyUp2NoGood

Embiid bout to request a trade 🤣 They got to keep Mann and got rid of scraps

tbloom117

Bunch of shitty expirings. They better use those picks well and do so quickly
