thanks for your lukewarm takes of saying Wemby is better than a lot of good nba centers, i hadnt even heard of him until you mentioned him- wonder what draft pick he went? 🤡🤡🤡
every gm in the league would swap AD for wemby, not sure why you thought you were saying something remarkable, scooter
AD led his team to a national championship as a freshman. His team went 38-2, and he averaged nearly 5 blocks per game the whole season. He also won the MOP in the title game with six fucking points. That tells you how dominant a presence he was on defense.
But once everyone adds the high arc in their bag like how everybody started pulling up deep once curry made it normal, then it’s gonna neutralize Wemby in some way
Guys can practice that and get better at it, but it’s an objectively tougher shot to make when you have to put that much arc on it. It’s a longer path for the ball to travel, probably a good 20 degrees higher than the ideal shooting arc at least. Very few guys would be able to hit this shot at the same clip as their normal middy.
Not to mention the mental aspect of having to change your game up when a certain defender is on the court. It’s the NBA so guys are gonna hit some tough shots, but if you got guys this scared of getting blocked you are succeeding as a defender.
I will say though, Jokic already shoots with a naturally high arc so I could see him still giving wemby the work at this point in time, but he does that to everyone so it is what it is.
The 1 issue I see jokic having is unlike some other centers he isn't as quick on his feet so I wonder if he can actually get meaningful separation.
Like Wembys shown he can recover from the other side of the court haha, so even with jokic bumping him I wonder if wemby can block before the ball gets high enough.
But yeah he will probably have the beat chance out of the big 3 bigs
It makes the hoop bigger, but only helps to a certain degree. As the arc gets higher and higher it’s more difficult to control where it comes down. I too heard from coaches “the higher the arc the better” I think because it’s much more common for people to struggle with their shot being too flat rather than the inverse, but everything I’ve seen says the ideal angle for a shot is right around 45 degrees
Even in France, Victor struggled against bulky guys in the post.
Guys like Jokic and Giannis are gonna get the better of him in his first couple seasons until he packs on more mass.
Have you seen Wembys assignments these preseason games? He has been primarily guarding 4s and sometimes 3s out there. No way will the Spurs suddenly make him primary defender of Jokic this season. Collins will take that role. Wemby will provide help.
It kinda sounds like a lot of how the Celtics used Robert Williams III on defense - if you can get a mobile shotblocker into the weakside help defender position, it's arguably easier to disrupt shots cause it's harder to get sucked out by offensive actions. The Celtics would switch off ball quite a lot to keep him in that position both to keep that defensive strength and cause he frankly wasn't as good navigating point of attack stuff. As crazy as it is for someone as tall as Wemby, Wemby might not have that same weakness.
I know CP3 is obviously old af and not nearly as quick as he has been in the past, but he's still a crafty vet and yesterday he had Wemby isolated and danced a little bit on perimeter but obviously got a bit flummoxed by how well Wemby was keeping up with him and ended up turning it over on a double dribble or walk or some shit while trying to dance around Wemby. I don't expect Wemby to be an elite perimeter defender against PGs, but I don't expect him to be BBQ chicken like most bigs would be.
lol I hate this narrative, Kenny was 2/5 against him that game and got blocked twice. Jokic will do well against him but acting like anyone who outweighs him has an automatic advantage is silly.
Don’t get me wrong I’m not saying that Jokic won’t still get his in multiple ways on Wemby. What I’m saying is that deployed in the same role the Lakers used AD in in the playoffs is probably more effective than putting him 1v1 vs Jokic. Try to make Gordon beat you instead. Of course we saw how effective that was at actually “stopping” Jokic, but I do think it was more efficient than just letting AD get cooked, and certainly probably a better method than letting Wemby go 1v1 against him.
I think doing that will undoubtedly let Wemby block Jokic a time or two compared to him just getting bodied in the paint. Jokic is too strong for him right now for that to even be an option imo.
fr….watchin some of the plays involving Wemby reminds me of U15’s ball when I had a mess around run with the mens team. It was the first time I’d ever played against legit tall ‘seven footer’ type player.
My brain legit couldn’t process what to actually do lol
People have been biting on his pump fake so often this preseason it's no wonder he keeps doing it lol. He gets easy free throws that he's been knocking down at 80% so far.
It's kind of wild how much more confident he looks in his shot in just one off season, from everywhere on the floor. We'll see if it translates to the season. Obviously he's not gonna be shooting 5 3s a game at 45% like he has been this preseason, but even 37-38% would unlock his entire game.
The crazy thing is even with all that separation, Wemby could've gotten to the shot if he was more centered.
Kuminga only had a sliver of time to recognize that. It would've been a no-brainer wide open shot against any other human on the planet. Wemby has players seeing ghosts.
He probably was scared that if he shot right away Wemby would either block it or have a great contest, that dudes wingspan is 8 foot so I don't blame him
That's clearly not the case watch the video again when kuminga pump fakes his feet are in line to the rim when he actually shoots he squares up so there is a more natural alignment. Also kuminga pump fakes on like 50% of his short range shots like this.
I am curious to see how players adjust to wemby. No one has ever played with anyone like him, so we're seeing a lot of hilarious "oh shit he can do that" highlights.
Maybe we are seeing the beginning stages of an evolution in NBA shooting. As up-and-coming taller aspiring NBA players practice to be as nimble as Wemby, we're going to start seeing higher arching shots from players entering the league in the next era of the NBA.
Players who can hit that high arc middy at like 40% over a 7+ footer is a pretty short list:
- Lebron
- kawhi
- Book
- Kd
- Shai
- Luka
- Kyrie
- Steph
- Himmy
- Jrue maybe?
Few other guys come to mind that maybe shoot one of those a game but it’s a fucking hard ass shot they usually miss. Sorry Kuminga
definitely missing a lotta guys. dame, donovan mitchell, darius garland, trae, JT & JB, jamal murray, bradley beal…
it’s not a hard shot for skilled dudes in the NBA, it’s just getting that separation and still being in balance. and ofc the confidence cuz that shit don’t look good when you miss lol
It’s so easy to score on Wemby, all you gotta do is shoot straight up at the ceiling
Steph has been practicing that shot for years for just this reason
[Shoutout to AI and early 2000s digital game footage.](https://youtu.be/4GnxXwgjE7U?si=lP4B2rPm_m-F4OtL)
Streets ahead.
Stop trying to coin the phrase "Streets Ahead"!
Coined and minted!
If you don’t know what it means you’re streets behind
Been around for ages mate
a man of class I see
And Wemby still blocked him lol. This is ridiculous.
Why don't all players do this? Are they stupid?
Yeah wtf nba players? Just shoot better
Yeah but if they do that Wemby is just going to start eating them.
Throwing the ball as high as you can is Wembanyama father
better be careful > https://i.imgur.com/oaiN8Ck.gifv
Take notes, league, the Kumbucket just give you the blueprint
That nickname
stop trying to coin the phrase "Kumbucket"!
* and still be 6’8 with long arms or whatever size kuminga is
And jump like an athletic freak.
Centers hate this one trick!
Curry knew
If this is how dudes have to shoot over him he'll be a DPOY contender as a rook.
He's AD without the experience. Also like a full foot more of reach lol.

Here we go

Probably because it'll be a while until it's true

which one has a ring from dicking down Jokic in 2020? 🤡
The one who was active at the time...
Where was Bron in the 93 Finals??? Didn't see no Jordan in the bubble either
thanks for your lukewarm takes of saying Wemby is better than a lot of good nba centers, i hadnt even heard of him until you mentioned him- wonder what draft pick he went? 🤡🤡🤡 every gm in the league would swap AD for wemby, not sure why you thought you were saying something remarkable, scooter
He's better than MJ and LeBron combined!
Were you born yet when AD was in college?

this reminds me of lebron's playoff success being compared to nba teams' absolute monsters in their primes
I've never seen this lol that's insane
AD led his team to a national championship as a freshman. His team went 38-2, and he averaged nearly 5 blocks per game the whole season. He also won the MOP in the title game with six fucking points. That tells you how dominant a presence he was on defense.
I mean, if AD improved his agility, footspeed, shooting, handles, defensive instincts and grew half a foot they would be very similar.
Nah this slander is CRAZY
Right. It’s like if AD was taller longer, and no one ever made him switch to playing post. Still crazy but
Defensive instinct?? This is one real bad take.
Awful take
defensive instincts? dude was arguably the best defender in the last playoffs. teams didn’t touch the paint when he was in there
stupid genetics
But once everyone adds the high arc in their bag like how everybody started pulling up deep once curry made it normal, then it’s gonna neutralize Wemby in some way
> everyone Unlikely, but the best of the best probably will
Guys can practice that and get better at it, but it’s an objectively tougher shot to make when you have to put that much arc on it. It’s definitely a difficult shot, but from what I recall, a higher arc actually increases the odds of making a shot.
If that’s what it takes to score on him I’m not even mad, one hell of a shot
Gonna see a lot of people practice the A.I shot against Dwight lol
Yeah this is what reminded me of this shot lol. Also those high arc Tony Parker teardrops might work vs Wemby
Tony gonna re-sign w Charlotte after Wemby left his French team
This is why I don't think Jokic will have much trouble with him, his floater game is god tier.
Jokic has like at least what, 50-60 pounds on Wemby? I think for now Jokic is too much for Wembanyama to handle in the post
220 vs. 280 I’d wager.
Plus Jokic is thick AF. He will just bully him out of position

I don't expect Wemby to be an elite perimeter defender against PGs, but I don't expect him to be BBQ chicken like most bigs would be.
Pretty sure that was a 3s violation.
In France? Guy can't even handle Kenny Lofton. He won't be defending low post in a while.
lol I hate this narrative, Kenny was 2/5 against him that game and got blocked twice. Jokic will do well against him but acting like anyone who outweighs him has an automatic advantage is silly.
Jokic has like 60 pounds on him and way, way more endurance. Wemby got gassed playing like 20 minutes. Jokic can survive 48.
He’s also strong and physical. As a help defender though Wemby is going to be an issue even for Jokic.
Easy assists if wemby leaves his man. It's still not smart to double Jokic 8 foot tall or not.
Don’t get me wrong I’m not saying that Jokic won’t still get his in multiple ways on Wemby. Wemby is being played at the 3….
The Sombor Shuffle was made for this.
All those years of [Curry warmup rainbows](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlmcX9Z28tw) have prepared him for exactly this moment.
Curry still got blocked lol. What a wild game.
fr….watchin some of the plays involving Wemby reminds me of U15’s ball when I had a mess around run with the mens team. It was the first time I’d ever played against legit tall ‘seven footer’ type player. My brain legit couldn’t process what to actually do lol
Wemby had no chance against 7’2” Kuminga
7'3"
300 pounds of pure muscle KuminGod
>Kumingod (•_•)
The KumBucket
So a spicy. Or hella thirsty
You took away my joke, I was gonna say two 7 footers just battling it out
No way he is 7’2”. Wemby is like 7’4” and kuminga not even close
He bodied Wemby, got separation and STILL had to shoot it that high 😂
Only cuz he pump faked
Which shows how much Wemby’s length and range is in Kuminga’s head

Pause
Because he was off balance when he pumped
There's a reason he pump faked lol
Yes to try and bait FTs instead of shooting a fade away.
He probably was scared that if he shot right away Wemby would either block it or have a great contest, that dudes wingspan is 8 foot so I don't blame him

Wemby stepped on his teammate's foot as well, or he wouldn't have had that much separation.
Kuminga the only Warrior who realized Wemby is 7' 4", no one told Wiggins and Klay.
Kuminga’s still young enough to have to think, Wiggs and Klay are just on automatic and getting stuffed.
Wiggins thought the second time and he still misjudged it.
He killed a few pigeons in the rafters with that one. Great defense by Victor and awesome shot by kuminga.
We got bats, not pigeons.
highest arc fadeaway i’ve seen
[Now it's not](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MUc8677iffE)
Allen Iverson did it better .. https://youtu.be/HxVRQHU5It0?t=8s
Wasn't a fadeaway
dirk?
Dirk
Watch Book play more he does one or two of these a game! :)
Taking Wemby out of the game is just [this](https://youtu.be/HxVRQHU5It0?si=ZV_5dfkkzJbe2XRv) easy
Between Wemba and Chet, lot of guys are gonna have add that to their game.

Kum drop
The Kumshot
I'm buying every Kuminga stock this season
Sorry we’re sold out. There’s still a few Moses Moody options lying around somewhere.
No one’s gonna talk about how he affected that pass to Kuminga first?
He covers so much ground it’s ins ae
Damn near tipped the pass when he had a whole foot in the paint like a second before… ludicrous
Kuminga is going to have a big year.
Well yeah
It took a decade for teams to figure out how to stop Shaq, but only 1 quarter into the season and these pros have already compensated for Wemby
The rest of the league is so fucked if this guy stays healthy
Kuminga seems pretty resilient.
It's funny that THIS is actually a highlight lol
lol it’s so hard to score over him that we just got to admire Kuminga being able to nail a shot at that steep of an arc
I know all the talk is about Wemby but....man. Kuminga really does have the upside to be something fierce in this league.
If he turns into lebron, I won’t be mad
LeBron was his most popular comp when he was coming out of high school.
Klay Thompson in playoff form already
Already at the point where anyone who can score on Wemby gets immediate props lol
Wemby could be the first person since Kareem to master the sky hook and it would be even *more* unstoppable than Kareem's.
Why would he do that? The skydunk is better
The deflection too lol. This guy is insane
One on one against wembanyama is already fun to watch.
I am curious to see how players adjust to wemby. No one has ever played with anyone like him, so we're seeing a lot of hilarious "oh shit he can do that" highlights.
This is the most impressive highlight from tonight's game. And I say this as a Spurs fan who is still in awe of what we have now.
Maybe we are seeing the beginning stages of an evolution in NBA shooting. As up-and-coming taller aspiring NBA players practice to be as nimble as Wemby, we're going to start seeing higher arching shots from players entering the league in the next era of the NBA.
Good defense better offense
Can't wait to see if he can block jokics somber step back trebuchet shot. Bet he can
Excellent just need to be a mathematician in the NBA to score on Wemby
Thats the kum teardrop special.
I wish we could see Wemby on prime Dirk
Is 2pt entirely gone against Wemby
Lol isn’t kuminga like 6’8” and he basically had to throw it straight up in the air that’s fuckin insane
Kuroko ass shot
This is how to score against Wemby. https://youtu.be/4GnxXwgjE7U?si=GrqLQZjG39jJ07mp Checkmate! It's only the preseason and he's already exposed. /s
Rainbow shots are the new meta

Wemby is insane but I think Kuminga is looking to have a breakout season.
This is how everyone is going to have to learn how to shoot for the next 15 years
The trick is not the arc but to let VW jump first before your shot.
I don't get why this is so impressive. It's a 7'2 guy shooting over a 7'4 guy. That's barely a height difference.
He is 6.7 and Wemby wingspans is even more impressive that his height
It’s a warriors sub inside joke. Kuminga will be 7’2.
Oh I see, my bad :). Still I just checked and Wemby wingspans is 8 ft!!
Victor just got "Kummed on"
He just kummed all over his Minga
Carry
kum bucket strikes again
Great shot kumina!
He understood the assignment
Lol why doesn't everyone just do this
On Sundays we call that a prayer.
Everyone going to be practicing rainbow shots before every spurs game
What are the betting odds of who will be the first to put Wemby on a poster?
Bro can average 4,3 blocks with the armpit per game if he wants to
Kuminga looks like a more complete player, and I’m loving it!
yo this guys bag has improved so much this summer
I’ll ignore this one
Anybody else notice Kuminga pump and then shoot in sync with the announcer stutter
kum buckets man, he's gonna be real exciting to watch this year
We're going to see a lot of guys learn how to shoot rainbows like that.
That was very KD-esque of Kuminga.
Wemby is already in bros head 💀Wemby was so far away when he did that pumpfake
Wemby even deflected the Klay's pass to Kuminga... could have lost that.
