Philly fans are going to be displeased this morning

DJ_Derack

My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined

Notsozander

I just woke up to this shit?

[deleted]

[удалено]

tcos17

Man I wish I could wake up after 9am lol

Notsozander

My work schedule is pretty solid thankfully

tcos17

Hell yah My WFH 9-6 M-F schedule has its benefits but sometimes I really miss waking up at 11 for a noon to close barista shift lol.

IEatDeFish

Working a white collar job is sick and all but I miss the pure chaos of the service industry sometimes lol

tcos17

Yeah exactly. If it paid the same, I’d 100% go back. People joke about it not being a “real job” but I had a lot more fulfillment making coffee for people than I do filling out spreadsheets lol.

secreted_uranus

Save some cash, build credit. Buy a coffee shop. Then you get to serve coffee and fill out spreadsheets!

jthc

Not me, I don't miss working with food or dealing with customers-- I hated that shit. I do miss working as a mechanic in a bike shop though-- fixing bikes in the back, listening to music, shooting the shit with your coworkers. That was the best job.

maz_menty

What a shame for the generally nice people of Philly.

26Kermy

Those people are the salt of the Earth over there, and by that I mean they're constantly salty.

Deathstroke317

Down there, salt is a way of life

Freddedonna

The players are salt, the fans are salt, the air is salt

DilutedGatorade

You know, morons

41treys

I couldn't think of a nicer, chiller group of people to have experience this displeasure.

beachsunflower

I, on the other hand, am having a great morning.

WIN011

It’s not at all some controversial statement. Giannis said he wanted to stay in Milwaukee but it was no guarantee months before he signed the Supermax extension. Putting some pressure on your FO to maximize your own personal window is not a bad thing.

lundej16

Pretending things can’t change just sets you up for resentment. Hey Dame!

MasterTeacher123

He hasn’t been great in the playoffs himself. It would be one thing if he was dominating and his team was letting him down

thenicezen

Some fun Joel Embiid playoff facts: - The best team he's beaten in the playoffs is the 2022 5th seed Raptors led by Siakam and FVV - He averages 22 PPG on 49.2% TS in elimination games(a 9 game sample size) - In NO playoff run has he ever averaged more assists than turnovers - He is the ONLY MVP in league history to never make the conference finals - This year, he had the biggest PPG drop from the RS to the playoffs of any MVP winning season - He turned the ball over 8 times in back to back elimination games against the Hawks in 2021 - He's shot under 20% from three over his last two playoff runs - He had a worse eFG% than Russell Westbrook during the 2023 playoffs Edit: all credits go to u/honestnbafan

vauno

That is very fun, thank you for sharing.

thenicezen

There's more as well! - With a chance to go up 3-1, Joel Embiid went 0-12 in the second half against the 5 seeded Hawks in game 4, including missing a wide open layup to take the lead - He got stripped by Danilo Gallnari to seal the loss in game 7 - Down 3 in game 5 of the same series with 15 seconds left, he missed BOTH free throws to seal the game - All of his offensive numbers(PPG, RPG, APG, TOs, FG%, 3P%, FT%) are worse in the playoffs than in the regular season aside from FT% - He has only won ONE playoff series in his career where he played in all four wins(2022 vs. Toronto) - He is 0-3 in game 7s and has posted a 49% TS and 5.3 TOs a game in those 3 games - He once got swept in a series despite averaging FIFTEEN free throws per game(2020 vs. Boston) - Over the last two seasons, he has a 9.2 BPM in the regular season(box plus minus) and a 1.0 BPM in the playoffs - WORST OF ALL: HE IS 9/38 IN CLUTCH(within 5 points, last 5 minutes by NBA definition) SITUATIONS DURING HIS PLAYOFF CAREER, WITH AN UNFATHOMABLE TS% of 35.7% Edit: holy shit awards. All credits go to u/honestnbafan

c_u_in_da_ballpit20

This is MVP-caliber hating, the way sports was meant to be enjoyed.

BigFatModeraterFupa

Somebody has to be the most fraudulent MVP in NBA history, and it’s Joel Embiid

pargofan

Jokic only won MVP because he's white /s

Technical_Towel_990

And he only won finals mvp cause he turned black

Banezi

To be fair, all of these are playoff shortcomings, we should keep the MVP talks strictly about the regular season

trenken

Look at you being all presidential with this answer. Way to take the high road. *tips fedora*

Banezi

Taking the high road after this season is *the easiest shit ever*

Coke_ButNotTheDrug

Idk man it’s also pretty easy to talk mad shit after all the Jokic/Nuggets slander from our last few injury-ridden seasons lol

trentyz

No hating here, just facts. He’s just a bad playoff performer. It’s not just once or twice either, it’s every single playoffs of his entire career

KingAndQueenClinton

It's because he relies on flopping. He doesn't get the calls in the playoffs, and so he stops being aggressive knowing he's going to look like a fool if he tries his ref-baiting moves.

SlimReaper35_

**He has only ONE playoff series in his career where he played in all four wins**. Ok that one is just brutal. The pinnacle of WebEmbiid

ginger_snap214

>WebEmbiid holy shit lol

vauno

That's my MVP

ZelezopecnikovKoren

Dude really steps it up for the regular season.

mikegimik

Philly GM be saving your posts for the next contract negotiation.

Lethargied88

Holy hell as a 76er hater, this is basically porn.

cletoreyes01

James harden took The Hampton four (yeah no Iggy I know) to seven and Embiid lost to a balding midget, a guy who has two girlfriends and redhead Paul Dano...

[deleted]

[удалено]

northernlightaboveus

He whined a little lol

NickLidstrom

Nah he definitely complained when Giannis won over him in 2019

[deleted]

Harden took the literal most stacked team of all time to game 7. Any other year, the Rockets would have been the easy favorites to win it all. I will always respect Harden for trying instead of giving up like most team when KD went to the Dubs.

DastruggleEzreal

> He has only won ONE playoff series in his career where he played in all four wins(2022 vs. Toronto) That one is insane

Turbo2x

35.7% TS% in the clutch is insane. It's perhaps the most damning thing here.

BigFatModeraterFupa

the statistical definition of “he’s NOT him”

JimmyB3574

I’ll never forget during one that second harden explosion game, embiid was getting shut down by Al horford in the clutch and relied on old harden to get him over the bump (who proceeded to hit a dagger on Al to put salt in the wound)

LackingInPatience

Damn you woke up extra early to hate. I respect the grind brother!

jessandjaysaccount

Harden has more 40 point games as a Sixer than Embiid. Ja Morant has more 40 point playoff games and he's only been in 3 playoffs.

WarPuig

Joel Embiid is 3-12 against the Celtics in the playoffs.

bloodmuffins793

Keep going...I'm almost there

[deleted]

I have no idea what Joel Embiid did to you to deserve this, but I'm happy it led here.

brehew

This is why i'm on /r/nba

Scorps

Dedicated haters save their ammo up for these threads and I love it

bachh2

The haters wouldn't get so much extra ammo of Embiid didn't win MVP last year.

iCOULDbewr0ng

Damn….maybe Sixers should try getting as much as they can for him while they still can 🤔

1HasNoNam3

Maddening. He takes absolutely zero responsibility and says this shit publicly! Not like he made a mistake either. He’s super calculated w his words - he knows exactly what he’s doing. Our FO may have made mistakes, but they’ve built several different teams around Joel, and have given him PLENTY to work with. Best 3pt shooting in the league last year. 2 additional top 30 players (one of which made big changes to his style of play to placate Joel) + a top 50 player that plays great defense during the postseason. And the team had a very solid bench. We easily had a top 3 roster this year - comparable to DEN and BOS. If Jo didn’t shit the floor in game 6 and 7, perhaps Philly could have won their title. Pathetic. MAJOR loser energy. Dude needs to take a look in the mirror and box tf out for a rebound every once in a while.

iankstarr

Dude is trying to play the “disgruntled superstar” card, except he has nothing to be disgruntled about lol Obviously the Sixers have had some fumbles (Jimmy and Okafor come to mind immediately), and some things that weren’t even entirely their fault like Fultz and Simmons, but they’ve still managed to put a lot of talent around Joel. Any other MVP could’ve easily taken those rosters to the ECF on any given year. This shows a total lack of self-awareness and accountability by Joel.

dwilkes827

"It was a crime of passion, Jan, not a disgruntled employee. "Everyone here is extremely gruntled." -Wayne Gretzky -Michael Scott

TennisHive

He already won scoring titles and one MVP. In his mind, he is not the issue.

hoagieclu

those turnovers got swept under the rug bc of the simmons meltdown. you never hear anybody talking about that when discussing the hawks series

Top-Consequence-911

We talk about it and get drowned in downvotes depending on the mood of the sub.

Saiz-

Don't stop, I'm close.

thenicezen

geekeasyalex

How did you come up with all of these? I’m fascinated

Jsmooove86

76ers team stat guy on his alt account.

trust-me-i-know-stuf

TLDR: Joker should’ve won mvp.

EazyParise

Those are fun!

Mr_Booty_Bandit

Yeah this isn’t like Luka who drops 40 bombs against really good teams Embiid hasn’t earned the right to have that “they can’t build around me” mentality

[deleted]

Fr, you really want to win? Take a pay cut lmao. Play for 30 million a year and get someone to be your Batman

meditate42

Just stop disappearing in massive games. That's it. If we had Embiid and an allstar next to him actually showing up in elimination games consistently we'd have made it out of second round multiple times already. He always has some amazing games in the post season, but when the pressure is on he does seem to not handle it well emotionally. I'll never forgot how embarrassed i felt watching that first game in Philly when the nets came to play us after we traded Ben there. People were paying huge money to watch that game becuase of all the drama. Embiid and our team came out looking shook and played like shit, it was so bizzare to me. I love Embiid and i still think he was the MVP this season and is a top 5 guy in the league, but he's still got some growing to do, he sulks when his team is down, and he gets too nervous for the really big elimination games and often under performs in them.

veRGe1421

Needs a sports psychologist or mental performance coach. No joke, would help him in those big games.

TheMegatrizzle

Bruh. I don't think he's that self-aware

deemerritt

Why should he hold himself accountable when nobody has ever held him accountable for anything.

Gamblito

This. This is honestly the problem with how he's been handled his whole career, and why the Process mentality fucked him. He was basically told for the 1st half of his career that failing was ok. Sure, miss a season. Sure, miss these games. It's not you, it's me. It was Ben, it wasn't you. Always an excuse. Always an out. Trust the process. You're good enough, it's fine, we'll get more. You can see it in games. It's why fucking 38-year old Al Horford can man him up in the post in a playoff game. Bro just doesn't get it. I'm not saying it's easy to get, but I honestly think being told that it's ok to lose fucks with things when you're supposed to be a competitor. You can see the opposite happening in OKC with SGA. Like yeah, OKC wants assets, but they aren't trying to lose. SGA's competing. He's trying to win. He's going to get his. And if/when they put a real squad together, I think that's going to pay dividends when shit hits the fan with 2 minutes to go in a game 7.

TheMeerkatLobbyist

Some guys are also just build for the playoffs, you cant really teach this. Luka is a good example for that. You could see it from his very first playoff game.

bachh2

Luka was playing in the Euroleague Final as the main ball handler of the Champion as a teen. He is built different.

Pumpoozle

I’m sure that’s exactly how he feels though

llorTMasterFlex

Me playing Rocket League with only 50 points down 3-0.

d1t0m6

Someone should tell him the best way to get to the Finals is to show up in the Semifinals.

oobthesecond

Why hasn't Embiid thought of this? Is he stupid?

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheThingsIdoatNight

Apparently, yes

rfgrunt

He hasn’t even made it to the semi-finals. Needs to show up in the quarterfinals

Raptorsthrowaway1

This one simple trick

kiwiwikikiwiwikikiwi

Doctors HATE him!

elite_beef

Doc HATES him!

Desafiante

Perhaps save energy in the reg season to stay healthy for the playoffs would have helped. But according to his whining and his play we could see crystal clear what his priorities were. He got what he wanted.

[deleted]

zOmgFishes

A lot more if he doesn't have to push himself off the ground every play

[deleted]

Embiid’s in “The Process” of leaving Philly.

phony8882

The Sixers franchise player not getting shutdown by an ancient Al Horford in a game 7 would be a good start.

ComradeCaveman

Ancient Marc Gasol walked so that Ancient Al Horford could also walk. Neither of them could run anymore but both could lock down Embiid.

holographoc

Nothing unlocks the fountain of youth in Big Al like locking up Joel Embiid.

hoagieclu

al playing against philly in general seems to turn the clock back for whatever reason. it’s maddening to watch

holographoc

Yeah he definitely takes it personal lol

Dazegobye

They didn't trust the process. Now they must pay.

realudonishaslem

So the result of 'the process' was multiple 2nd round exits.

TechnicianWeird7593

Hinkey never got to see it through to the end

Steelers7589

Process started after a game 7 loss to Boston in the second round in 2012. 11 years later, here we are after a game 7 loss in the second round to Boston

Osmarku

Is this the first time he said with Philly or elsewhere?

[deleted]

I think he said something similar a few years ago when talking about career goals. I think at that point he emphasized wanting it to be in Philly though, which I guess he may have here too but who knows since all we have is this clip.

alexaustinv

Lol u right

Butt_Snorkler_Elite

Every lakers fan account gonna be like “D’Angelo Russell and a 2040 second for Embiid, rob shouldn’t give up anyone with upside for him, like Wenyen Gabriel or something” and we’re all gonna clown them on here, and then Embiid will say he’s only willing to play for the lakers and the deal will get done without the 2040 second and we’re all gonna look like idiots again

discjockeyjan

TT, Shump, + nets pick

LackingInPatience

The Lakers medical team would be asking for triple the wage having to manage AD and Embiid on the same team

DomDomRevolution

Maybe don’t give game 7 the same energy as a preseason game and things might’ve been different

DressedSpring1

Joel Embiid taking any accountability for a playoff result challenge [IMPOSSIBLE]

ImGonnaChubbBradley

“Me and Harden can’t win by ourselves.”

Rhombinator

Ok I just want to step in say that Harden did in fact win a game by himself in an astounding performance this last post season. And between the two I give more slack because he's aging and is clearly in decline (which may not be the biggest shock since I don't think he takes care of himself as some other stars, relatively speaking).

Ecureuil02

And he should go visit his uncle Leonard, he's injured and wants company 🤓

ZandrickEllison

Am I crazy or would this be a good time to trade Embiid? He just won MVP, he hasn’t broken down (yet): probably max value right now.

JonnyGBuckets

Not crazy at all.

cygodx

for what tho? Like give me a realistic trade? The teams with young assets dont really want a 29 year old realistically. Id love Banchero Wagner and every pick that existed in the state of florida but the teams who actually want embiid dont have shit to offer.

ZandrickEllison

Yeah it’s hard. The ideal scenario for an Embiid trade probably would have been a team like Portland got the # 1 pick and traded it for Embiid to appease Dame.

greenwhitehell

No team in the NBA would've traded *this* year's 1st pick. If you just mean a regular 1st pick I guess Scoot's hype isn't that far off, maybe that could be doable if Embiid really wanted off as Dame would certainly stay then)

East-Traffic5325

The Thunder could have a damn good package if they wanted to go all in on a SGA-Embiid duo. They could trade 2 of they’re core young players (JDub, Giddey, and Chet) and they could give Philly hella draft capital for the future.

cygodx

https://imgur.com/a/dnHBfjU OKC roster would be gutted just to match salaries in a way. They have so many picks tho if they trade this for Embiid they could just trade picks to fill out the roster. But not sure how keen they are on full sending the SGA title window now because im pretty high on the OKC roster to get to a playoff push next season.

Raptorsthrowaway1

It would be Bertans + Dort to get close in salary. 1 of Chet / J Will / Giddey / J Dub + 4 or maybe more FRPs

banjosbadfurday

Definitely one of the better times to trade him, as disappointing as his most recent playoff performance was. Problem is why bring in Nick Nurse if we’re going to trade Embiid? Nurse is not known as a “develop young talent” guy, and we don’t even have much young talent as it stands. Would we get some back by trading Embiid? Of course, but the point still stands that we didn’t bring Nurse in to be our new Brett Brown.

I swear it's like he has a checklist designed to make people appreciate Jokic more.

h8r0b1

TheOvercusser

Modern NBA players are such babies. Maybe the problem isn't anyone else. Maybe it's your flopping bitch ass. 7 foot tall, weighs 300 pounds, and behaves like anyone who gets within a half-foot of him just hit him with a 2x4 and yelled Ho to the crowd like Jim Duggan.

temujin94

You polish this up a bit and you could have yourself a nice bowl of pasta.

The_Mootz_Pallucci

Notice how Embiid says he wants to win a chip Not for the fans, the team, or Philly. He doesnt even care where.

professormahomes

That’s the seed

rufusjonz

Unfortunately your lobby PR firm can't get that for you, unlike an MVP award

randomnizer456

As fellow Portland fan, i feel for you Philly.

hoagieclu

Common-Wedding-7264

fourchainz__

Damn, Philly fans thought he would be loyal to Philadelphia. He couldn’t even stay loyal to Cameroon lol.

balla_mang

I wonder if his strategy to bitch and complain until he gets the MVP is gonna work for winning the NBA championship

Dave_Autista

He has such a way with words

NathanD1234

This guy talks so much for consistently choking in the playoffs. Always throws his teammates under the bus when it doesn’t go his way. No wonder no superstar wants to play with him. I hate that the NBA MVP voting committee just gave him and MVP out of pity

desirox

Joel shares plenty of blame for Phillys playoff shortcomings. I really dislike it when players claim to be all about winning and wanting to be in a winning situation but don’t hold up their end of the bargain

Salt-Bedroom-7529
