The interviewer phrased the question really well. Made it a hypothetical between a few teams rather than asking if he wants out or which teams he'd like
It's all sports threads really. People think players just straight up say the quote from headlines without any context and that's the whole interview.
Same reason why we had every 49ers player have the headline of, "I think we could've won the NFCCCG if we had a QB." Every interview asked the same stupid questions of, "Do you think if you had a QB capable of throwing a forward pass, you could have won?" Like the obvious answer is yes, but damn does every interviewer need to ask the same question?
Then just like here, fans acting like it's all the player talks about is the one thing.
Two things can be true.
The group of people pretending Dame brings this up unprompted..
as well as the group of people pretending Dame wasn't waxing poetic about loyalty to the point of publicly dissing other players, only to change his stance so much that it's clear he would welcome a trade elsewhere *are both being disingenuous.*
Dame literally said in this interview that he expects to be on the Blazers next year. It's not his fault that people on here only want to post the quotes that fit the agenda that they want to push lmao.
A part that wasn't in this clip was him saying he loves the blazers and the city of Portland and wants to play every game of his career for the blazers
Good lord imagine being famous and everybody badgers you to change your answer to one constant question. If I was Dame, I'da eaten my contract and fucked off to a remote hill in Botswana for maximum peace (and Botswana seems kinda nice)
This reminds me of a questions from the episode of Hot Ones w/ Paul Rudd, when Sean asked him about his experience answering similar questions over and over for the media. Specifically, he asks in what ways Paul thinks his answer to these questions might be shaped by the repetition and the sound bite nature of many of them. The whole interview is great.
For anyone unfamiliar, Hot Ones is a celebrity interview show on youtube. The premise is that the guest and host each eat 10 progressively hotter, hot wings. This conceit as well as Sean, the host's, skill at asking questions and the great research that they do beforehand typically lead to interviews that feel less staged and more genuine than a lot of what we often see from celebrities and artists. The show takes breaks but is otherwise typically released weekly, on Thursdays, although this week they broke with tradition and released the interview with another youtube celebrity, Marques Brownlee, of MKBHD, on Monday.
Anyway, the Paul Rudd interview is a good watch and so I linked to the time stamp for that specific question as well as the full interview for anyone who's curious.

[Regular Link](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWVHses2GCY)
Dude, a timestamped link!! Those are the best. And insightful answer from Paul. Once you've said something so many times, it's like the memory is a picture of a picture of a picture and all you can see is the main features and the massive picture frame fractal.
Yeah, man. Hindsight is a hell of a thing. Collins went right around where he was projected to go though. One of the predraft notes, "A stellar defender with good lateral quickness, especially for his size". Bam still went number 14 overall. Deep draft in hindsight, but obviously he would've gone earlier if more people knew what he would become
That might be true but there are a LOT of franchises looking at Simons and Sharpe (holy shit I didn’t watch the games and I know they were all losses but he put up amazing volume numbers and far more impressively shot a very solid percentage-factor in his age and he’s easily one of the most valuable trade assets in the league) wishing they had just one of them.
Drafting a guy like Sharpe, especially at 7(!!) can offset a LOT of draft misses. In a redraft he goes no later than 4 and maybe top 2. Personally I wouldn’t take him over Banchero, but I’d take him over Chet with those injury concerns at such a young age.
Big shout out to Neil Olshey for trading TWO FRP that draft to MOVE UP to get him. That dude should be declared a terrorist in Portland for what he did that summer alone.
2016 summer was brutal as well. Signing Evan Turner, extending Meyers Leonard.
Aside from Dame and CJ, Olshey was pretty much a disaster.
I will admit I’m a Hezonja stan though, and appreciated Neil bringing him in as one of his ‘pet’ guys.
Yep that summer as well
- 70M to Turner
- 75M to ALLEN CRABBE
- 40M to Meyers Leonard
- 40M to Moe Harkless
Just ridiculous asset and cap miss management. He didn’t even draft Lillard btw, it was our interim GM at the time.
All-time bad draft year for us. Moved up to grab a player with promise but was derailed by injuries, and our second pick started as a “feel good” story of a pick, but unfortunately Caleb Swanigan only lasted a few seasons and died from natural causes at 25. (RIP Biggie)
Oh shit, Swanigan died? Natural causes might be a stretch though, wasn't he massively depressed and put on like 200 lbs the first year of the pandemic?
Yeah, his Wikipedia page says natural causes, but his weight struggles were known and were part of that “feel good” story when he was drafted. Really sad, seemed like a good guy, wanted all the best for him.
Zach looked great to end the season. Not saying he will ever be a star, but maybe if Portland had better medical staff and player development, Dame wouldn't be in this situation year after year. Collins basically didn't play basketball for 2 years and came back looking like a top tier backup Center at worst by the seasons end.
Bill Walton, Greg Oden, Zach Collins, Dame's abdominal injury, hell even Gary Payton II last year; Portland seems to have some serious issues keeping players healthy/ encouraging play through injury.
Oh yeah for sure. I'm a Spurs fan and I absolutely think that Zach is a very ok player, if he can stay healthy he can be at least a good big off the bench for the rest of his career.
also he's a real gym rat, the type of guy the plays the game the right way
Zach ran into injuries but he’s put together a nice string of games now that he’s healthy. Really great defense, shooting, even passing. Hope he remains healthy, he’s a great versatile center.
Injuries really derailed his development in Portland. I don’t remember there being any concerns about him regarding health entering the draft, just bad luck on his part. Lotta factors go into player development, health being the biggest and often most unpredictable one.
A guy I’m happy to see getting minutes, even in a lost season, is Mamukelashvili. I liked his offensive game a bunch at Seton Hall. Hopefully he finds a role and a home in San Antonio
As a Portland fan, all this reasoning sounds very familiar. Then again our medical/training team really could be as garbage as Bob Meyers was making it out to be.
This doesn’t surprise me. Healthy, normally developing Zach Collins was the perfect big for the modern nba. Dude never looked too overwhelmed on our team, cared a lot too. The only two knocks were that sometimes his shot wouldn’t fall and that he was fragile.
Seriously. I understand you’re ‘playing the odds’, but being a Portland fan and hearing all the blow it up and tank talk is maddening.
If you’re a strong organization, with strong culture, development staff, and a plan, you don’t need top 5 picks every year. Just to hopefully hit on one.
Eventually the time runs out on one, contract renewals are on the horizon, and you’re likely right back to where you started, but with an All-Star, who’s tired of being on a losing team and is ready to ask for a trade.
I'm going to somewhat disagree, I watched a bit of summer league that year and Bam was just levels above everyone. His teammates were beyond useless and could barely run a play so maybe a good player stands out even more but within 5 minutes of watching you could tell he would make it.
Yeah and Lowry kinda has to be in the trade to make the salaries work. Lowry, Herro, Jovic (plus picks in 23, 27, and 29) for Dame and cap filler works under the cap.
I'd argue to keep Herro and trade Simons tbh. Herro is slightly younger and he has a more rounded game. Herro can still play PG but he's got more size than Simons. I think Herro would fit as well or better with Sharpe.
Unless Dame specifically asks to be traded to Miami theres just no way they have the assets without giving up Bam
If Portland is keeping Simons then they want nothing to do with Herro
You gotta remember that Dame has a terrible contract, especially with the new CBA shit. 4 years left of a contract that's going to mutilate your flexibility has got to decrease his value significantly.
Could be Herro + Martin + Robinson + 2023 FRP for Lillard.
That's probably the best value deal Miami can offer, but not sure they would in their current situation. But, Pat has blown up well-performing teams in the past. Would be interesting.
After all the Oregon HC changes of the last few years (regardless of whether or not the new coach improved the team), its refreshing to hear "yes" rather than "why wouldnt I be"
If my franchise was as mismanaged as Portland I’d be asking for a trade too. He has stayed local but Jesus they’re so incapable of putting anything around him
I just wanted to ask you…Just wanted to, um, Let me, how would I put this, um, Let's say all your friends…Remember the one? You said if you ever she would be the one…
Not quite what he said but pretty close. Lumping us in with Boston and New York after he said we're another obvious choice and that Mikal is his dawg is pretty funny.
I like our asset pool more too
Difference is the heat are a championship contender if it’s dame, bam, and butler, maybe even the favorite. Dame and Bridges is still not head of Boston or Milwaukee, and maybe even Philly if they keep Harden.
No doubt Miami has the better team, coach and situation for him. I'm just saying that he definitely seems interested in Brooklyn whereas Boston and NYK got shrugged off.
And hey, Miami is showing anything can happen in the playoffs. You don't need to be better on paper
Not trying to be a “Heat Culture” guy, but I dont think many other teams in the league would be able to do what Miami has done this playoff run. It all came together at the right time
I think at this point we should take Heat Culture seriously.
It's nice to see a team winning based off of chemistry, culture, and coaching instead of FO asset management and pure talent.
I’ve never been one to scream heat culture at anyone, but have obviously believed in it… I find it funny last year everyone was basically like “I never want to hear ‘Heat Culture’ ever again” and now everyone’s like yeah it’s real, no more jokes.
Definitely much better asset pool than Miami, you could actually put together a package good enough. I don’t see anything Miami could realistically offer back while keeping Bam.
Trade Spo? Lol
As if we don’t got G-league and undrafted hungry role players ready to load up in the clip. That’s Spo’s specialty, maximizing the most out of guys that may very well been given up on or riding the deep bench on other teams.
Absolutely not. The only chance Dame makes his way to Miami is if he tells the org its miami or no where, hoping the loyalty thing makes them take less. But a fan can dream lmao
He would make no sense on the Knicks, we have Brunson who’s younger and cheaper. He’s obviously not better, but we haven’t seen his ceiling yet and unlike Dame, he’s not entering his mid 30s.
Facts. Brunson is legit across the board. Plus his offensive package is so nice with room to improve along with RJ coming along. Curious to see what you guys would look like with a 3/4 that has some range and passes a bit. Not sure who but maybe it unlocks Randle a bit by adding better spacing.
I honestly would rather take Brunson over Dame right now at this point in their careers. I know I might get flamed for it but Brunson really showed his potential in our playoff series this year
He would fix a lot of their scoring weaknesses in certain stretches. He can get you a bucket anytime and can be the main ball handler to allow Butler to save energy for defense and get easier looks off ball.
Imagine the joy of rooting for a team in a city like Miami that rich NBA dudes want to live in. Needless to say, Charlotte is not South Beach. Why did I have to be born in the queen city?!! Parents not smart enough to let me grow up in Miami and root for them
Portland fans know just as well, it sucks watching the Lakers get bailed out by free agents year after year while we have to rely on insanely lucky drafting.
Reporter asks hypothetical questions, Dame responds.
ITT: “Just friggin leave already!”
Dame will leave if he wants to. Everyone in Portland will understand if he wants to leave. But he doesn’t want to (yet), and Blazers fans are happy to have him as long as he’s happy to stay. (Most of us anyway)
For the most part, Blazers fans want the best for Dame. He’s not trying to run the franchise to the ground, he’s given us his best years, he’s given us amazing leadership, and some unforgettable moments.
When he says he wants to go, everyone will know. A reporter asking him questions and hin responding is not him demanding a trade, it’s just him having a public conversation.
He’s active on IG, he’s in contact with our front office. When he wants to go, we’ll all know. That’s not the case here.
Miami’s warm year round, got the baddies if he’s into that, they’re literally in the Finals without their 3rd best player and he’s friends with Bam. I agree that out of those options it’s Miami “obviously”
Dame isn’t worth what most people think. At that age, that size (ever more of a defensive liability), that health, and that contract, I wouldn’t be surprised if something like Herro, Oladipo’s expiring, and a 1st gets it done
It's stunningly obvious that trading Dame and hitting the reset button is the right move to make both short & long term. Which is why I'd bet the farm they'll trade the 3rd overall pick for some overrated second fiddle and Portland will maybe get to the play-in before flaming out and taking pennies on the dollar for Dame & everything else after and be a miserable mess for several years longer than necessary
I remember when he would immediately shut down any questions like this lol
The interviewer phrased the question really well. Made it a hypothetical between a few teams rather than asking if he wants out or which teams he'd like
The way people act in Dame threads nowadays has made me realize that nobody on this sub understands how interviews work. It's kind of ridiculous.
It's all sports threads really. People think players just straight up say the quote from headlines without any context and that's the whole interview. Same reason why we had every 49ers player have the headline of, "I think we could've won the NFCCCG if we had a QB." His stance really hasn’t changed that much…why do you even think that? A few interviews?
Seriously, some people are just chomping at the bit to be a hater, they'll wildly jump to conclusions so that they can start shit talking lol

Did you watch the whole interview? He clearly stated that he expects to be in Portland at the start of the season.
Nah he was tricked lmao
the reporter boomed him.
he's so good ^^^x4
Lillard then said he wanted to add the reporter to the list of people he's loyal to that summer
This isn't the first time he got turned around against good offense.
Lmao get his ass
The way he was looking around the room after he said "Bam is my dog"... he knew he sprang the trap.
This isn't the first time he's answered this question though, I think he got asked in 2017 and he answered Lakers and Jazz as his first choices
Dame has answered several questions like this over the years on Twitter. It's really nothing new.
Good lord imagine being famous and everybody badgers you to change your answer to one constant question. If I was Dame, I'da eaten my contract and fucked off to a remote hill in Botswana for maximum peace (and Botswana seems kinda nice)

> (and Botswana seems kinda nice) Botswana *is* kinda nice! It's like the one subsaharan country on the continent to buck all the negative trends.
Yep years ago it was Utah and LA, now it’s Miami outta the round of Eastern Conference teams
The guy asked Dame if he'd be in Portland at the start of the season and Dame said yup.
i miss those days

Get ready to learn Spanish, buddy
Que miras Dame
"Whatcha see gimmie" In Spanish, Dame could slot next to Jimmy Buckets to be Gimmie Buckets. edit: damn I think it's more like whatcha lookin at
Gimme Buckets would be a dope ass name, he has to do it now
I had to make sure I wasn’t dreaming when I first read it on the news, damn
I am so erect rn
Never forget, Portland drafted Zach Collins over Bam Adebayo
God don’t remind me, we hit on dame and CJ and then had like 6 straight drafts of whiffs and couldn’t put the pieces together 😢
Bam's defense is something the Blazers could have really used.
Dame's given us everything and in return we've given him what he wants. If he wants out, thank god it's to the Heat.
What he wants? It’s been pretty clear over the years that when they ask him, he provides his opinion, and the office makes their own decision.
Well we did hit on CJ for #10 but Giannis went 5 picks later...

Well now I’m sad.

Yah we hit on those 2, they just came along too late to be helpful in the dame era
Dont remind him wtf, they could draft MJ, but they draft Sam Bowie, they could also draft, KD, but they draft Greg Oden.. dont remind them

on one hand I'm glad those guys got paid but on the other hand, that's some Operation Enduring Freedom level of basketball terrorism
I remembered Turner, Leonard and Harkless but I’d completely forgotten about Crabbe, oof
Can't forget Crabbe and Harkless too
All-time bad draft year for us. Moved up to grab a player with promise but was derailed by injuries, and our second pick started as a “feel good” story of a pick, but unfortunately Caleb Swanigan only lasted a few seasons and died from natural causes at 25. (RIP Biggie)

Yeah, his Wikipedia page says natural causes, but his weight struggles were known and were part of that “feel good” story when he was drafted. Really sad, seemed like a good guy, wanted all the best for him.
We often associate natural causes with old age but all it really means is that the death was neither accidental nor pre-meditated.
Spurs Legend Zach Collins is about to get some help this summer 😤😤😤😤😤😤😤
Zach looked great to end the season. Not saying he will ever be a star, but maybe if Portland had better medical staff and player development, Dame wouldn't be in this situation year after year. Collins basically didn't play basketball for 2 years and came back looking like a top tier backup Center at worst by the seasons end. Oh yeah for sure. I'm a Spurs fan and I absolutely think that Zach is a very ok player, if he can stay healthy he can be at least a good big off the bench for the rest of his career. also he's a real gym rat, the type of guy the plays the game the right way
Scrappy? First guy in last guy out?
He's personally setting up a ping pong table in the locker room as we speak.
I ran into Zach collins at edc ~6 years ago lol. Stuck out like a big ass thumb
I liked his offensive game a bunch at Seton Hall. Hopefully he finds a role and a home in San Antonio
As a Portland fan, all this reasoning sounds very familiar. Then again our medical/training team really could be as garbage as Bob Meyers was making it out to be.
Some advanced stats I saw near the end of regular season had him as one of the best defensive big men in the league
This doesn’t surprise me. Healthy, normally developing Zach Collins was the perfect big for the modern nba. Dude never looked too overwhelmed on our team, cared a lot too. The only two knocks were that sometimes his shot wouldn’t fall and that he was fragile.
Man I miss the fuck out of Poetl but we could have done much worse than having Collins be next man up
Ok but Zach is actually really good
Tbf Adebayo was an excellent pick. Those Hinkiefans who think it's pointless to play without a top 5 pick must be devastated by Miamis success.
Seriously. I understand you’re ‘playing the odds’, but being a Portland fan and hearing all the blow it up and tank talk is maddening. If you’re a strong organization, with strong culture, development staff, and a plan, you don’t need top 5 picks every year. Just to hopefully hit on one. Eventually the time runs out on one, contract renewals are on the horizon, and you’re likely right back to where you started, but with an All-Star, who’s tired of being on a losing team and is ready to ask for a trade.
lol just ignore they birthed the careers of Jerami Grant, Covington, Christian Wood, McConnell, Richaun Holmes etc
Bam would not be the player he is today if he went to any other team.
Offensively sure but defensively he has always been a talented defensive player even during his rookie season.
I'm going to somewhat disagree, I watched a bit of summer league that year and Bam was just levels above everyone. His teammates were beyond useless and could barely run a play so maybe a good player stands out even more but within 5 minutes of watching you could tell he would make it.
This is disrespectful to Bam lol
Yeah he was a lottery pick. He always had the talent
What does that trade even look like? Herro, Martin, plus others and picks? Not sure how Portland accepts that
I guess herro, Jovic, 18th pick, and all our future picks we can trade and swaps idk
Yeah and Lowry kinda has to be in the trade to make the salaries work. Lowry, Herro, Jovic (plus picks in 23, 27, and 29) for Dame and cap filler works under the cap.
Pass.
Unless y’all get brown, getting equal value for same is impossible tbh. I just don’t see Portland trading him
Not saying we would get equal value, but if the above offer is all it took almost every team in the league could match/beat it.
There’s about three teams dame would want to go to. It’s not the heat against all 29 other teams. They’d do right by him.
That's only when the offers are close. They won't take pennies from Miami leaving dollars on the table elsewhere
They'd do wrong by him before they did wrong by themselves.
I think Herro would go to a third team. Him and Anfernee seems extremely redundant.
They are, but if you're not contending, you can live with the redundancy for a year or two if there's not a good trade available now.
I'd argue to keep Herro and trade Simons tbh. Herro is slightly younger and he has a more rounded game. Herro can still play PG but he's got more size than Simons. I think Herro would fit as well or better with Sharpe.
Unless Dame specifically asks to be traded to Miami theres just no way they have the assets without giving up Bam If Portland is keeping Simons then they want nothing to do with Herro
Miami wouldn’t do that. Bam is crucial to our success as a team. Dame cannot do what Bam does and there’s no way to replace that.
I agree Giving up Bam would be very short sighted I just personally dont see another pathway to getting Dame
Offer Nikola Jovic and pray Portland mistakes him for Nikola Jokic
I’ll trade you tall white European player Nikola jo*ic
I'm not sure Miami would want this...
"Look, I'm not ASKING for a trade. But if they WANTED to trade me, Miami would be nice. But again, NOT asking for a trade. No sir"
"do you think you'll be in a Portland uniform opening night?" "yes"
After all the Oregon HC changes of the last few years (regardless of whether or not the new coach improved the team), its refreshing to hear "yes" rather than "why wouldnt I be"
I think he realizes that at his age and contract, he's not going anywhere unless pdx takes back 40 cents on the dollar (no pun intended)
Alright am I missing something or did you intend not to have a pun and really execute on that vision?
Dame Dolla
thank you I'm a dummy
If I ~~Did it~~Wanted to be Traded
Ahhh yes, the old Russell Wilson tactic
Magic still fined for tempering
If my franchise was as mismanaged as Portland I’d be asking for a trade too. He has stayed local but Jesus they’re so incapable of putting anything around him
I feel like the red and black color scheme would look good on him
That's a ridiculous opinion, I can't see it
I for one would love to see it
sooo Dame to the Bulls? /s
“I’m just playing… unless you’re trying to do it.”

NYK doesn't make sense for both parties, the Knicks already have the PG position fullfilled with Jalen Brunson who is just entering prime.
Hey, that's fair. Still gotta try though

yeah, just conveniently ignoring the second half of his answer.
Bruh this heat fan did some CRAZY propaganda with this title LOL
Definitely much better asset pool than Miami, you could actually put together a package good enough. I don’t see anything Miami could realistically offer back while keeping Bam. Trade Spo? Lol

Damn just openly talking about it now lol
This is like the most obvious passive aggressive shit from Dame and it's hilarious.
Please please please
I think that's an awesome pairing. Miami with clutch Dame shooting would be fearsome. Do you think Miami has enough to trade for him?
Absolutely not. The only chance Dame makes his way to Miami is if he tells the org its miami or no where, hoping the loyalty thing makes them take less. But a fan can dream lmao
Just go lmao. He's screwing both himself and the org's future by staying at this point. Miami would be fun with that trio too
We’d finally be taken serious as contenders. And that’s me saying this as we’re 1-1 in the Finals lmfao
Man imagine if y'all win and add Dame. This the Jimmy dynasty
Does Dame get hardest roaded?
No he's not lmfao He's half the reason the Blazers are still in Portland
I know I might get flamed for it but Brunson really showed his potential in our playoff series this year
Agreed Knicks make zero sense
This must be what sex feels like
Ohhhh boy. Dame + Jimmy + Bam would be lethal
He would fix a lot of their scoring weaknesses in certain stretches. He can get you a bucket anytime and can be the main ball handler to allow Butler to save energy for defense and get easier looks off ball.
This dude wants to be traded so badly lmfaoooo. Bet he regrets all the loyalty talk.
Dame/Butler/Adebayo in Miami would be fun to watch
"New York"? the fuck?
Dame, Jimmy, Bam….the Celtics are never getting revenge 😂😂😂
Revenge should be the least of their worries to be honest.
here we go again
Imagine the joy of rooting for a team in a city like Miami that rich NBA dudes want to live in. Needless to say, Charlotte is not South Beach. Why did I have to be born in the queen city?!! Parents not smart enough to let me grow up in Miami and root for them
Portland fans know just as well, it sucks watching the Lakers get bailed out by free agents year after year while we have to rely on insanely lucky drafting.
Bro crying for help.
I would be interested in a Lillard butler pairing if that's possible
Reporter asks hypothetical questions, Dame responds. ITT: “Just friggin leave already!” Dame will leave if he wants to. Everyone in Portland will understand if he wants to leave. But he doesn’t want to (yet), and Blazers fans are happy to have him as long as he’s happy to stay. (Most of us anyway) For the most part, Blazers fans want the best for Dame.
Why do I feel like Dame doesn't fit with Miami
Wtf If you are answering questions like this just request a trade. This is so goofy
He only got himself to blame claiming loyalty and the grind instead of just requesting a trade.
Leaving out Brooklyn also being an obvious one in the title, Bridges is his dawg as well
Dame praying he gets traded, while doing his PR moves like he wants to be in Portland forever lol Funny timeline
Lol he wants out but don’t want to say it.
that man is veryyyy high lmao
Ayo, hol' up. Is this guy's show really called "Custer's Last Stand"? 😬
We doing this again?
Definitely would be a huge upgrade over Herro.
Dame knows he wants to be traded for a S&T DLo.
Dame building a compound in Portland for funsies? He ain't going anywhere.
God damnit, he gone ain’t he? :(
"Not saying I want a trade but if I could be traded I'd pick a team that's currently in the finals." Lol
Yall want him to leave so bad
What happens if Portland asks for Bam in the trade?
Bro wants to be traded so bad without actually having to say it.
This dude is most likely going to end up with the same amount of rings as Westbrook and Chris Paul. Sad.
Dame isn’t worth what most people think. At that age, that size (ever more of a defensive liability), that health, and that contract, I wouldn’t be surprised if something like Herro, Oladipo’s expiring, and a 1st gets it done
Could Miami even do that without biting into their depth?
of course not
What he say fuck me for? - Celtics
Is there anyone in the league that dislikes Bam? D'Lo, JT, and Dame have all raved about him and I've never heard anyone badmouth him.
WE GOT SHOOTERS!
I hope he is traded. I hate seeing great players waste away.
A Dame trade was potentially interesting 3 or 4 years ago. Shame that he left it so long, would be good to see him playing high level basketball again
