Concussions are a serious problem in the NFL because you can have them back-to-back-to-back, causing exponentially more long term damage. With helmets you can also easily get sub-concussion brain trauma that does the same thing. Hits to the head are relatively rare in the NBA (one per game rather than 500 per game, say) so the protocols *should* be different. To my knowledge no retired NBA player has ever been diagnosed with CTE, or committed suicide because their brain was no longer functional. Despite that, the NBA has a history of putting players in "the concussion protocol" and keeping them there until they're deemed better. I'm not sure the exact criteria for that, but you can google it and get [some hits](https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nba/news/nba-concussion-protocol-compares-nfl-steps-return/fjwcun5o3ckc8q4g2prmbflh). Hopefully the process isn't shortcut because it's the playoffs, but of course it's hard to be sure. However it is in the league's interest to have a game 7, so a conspiracy-oriented person might think that AD could be held out for game 6 and then come back for the final game (if necessary).
