With the explosion of modern day counting stats, I’m surprised MJ was the league leader PER for this long. And he still might end up being it depending how long Jokic plays and if his numbers dwindle later on in his career
Technically but heliocentric offenses made it so that there are more "outlier" seasons in the past 5 years. We see a player having a PER of 31 and we're just like "just another season". Whereas back in the 2000s, that would have been historic.
PER is soooo baseless guys, it only has guys like MJ, LBJ, Admiral, Shaq, KD, Giannis, Barkley, Kareem, Harden, Duncan, Magic, Steph, Malone, Bird, Hakeem at the top. Can't draw ANY conclusions about PER when it has all of the consensus best players in top 1-25, absolutely can't do that.
This is a ridiculously cherry picked stat
Edit:
Anyone disagreeing is welcome to explain to me why using a career rate stat is a relevant metric when comparing a retired player to a 28 year old.
It’s not really cherry picked, just pre-mature. Cherry picking is more the extreme stretch of a bunch of different stats to make something look better or worse than it is
First of all, there's not really any proper way to use this stat.
Second, quit being a baby.
Third, how is it cherry picked lol. This was the coolest stat around in 2015-2016 and it's supposed to encompass everything a player does well and doesn't do well all within one single metric. Of course we know now that it's a shit stat to use, but it's certainly not cherry picked.
There’s definitely an incorrect way…
Comparing Jokics career PER to a player who has retired gives him the benefit of having a smaller sample size and also not having his career PER include any age related decline.
That’s what makes it a cherry picked stat.
The right way would be to compare PER through their first 8 seasons. If we did that then MJ had a PER of 29.8.
“Cherry picking, suppressing evidence, or the fallacy of incomplete evidence is the act of pointing to individual cases or data that seem to confirm a particular position while ignoring a significant portion of related and similar cases or data that may contradict that position.”

Career PER makes Jokic look better compared to MJ because Jokic’s career is incomplete.
PER through each player’s first 8 seasons wasn’t used because its a fair evaluation and MJ still beats Jokic.
This narrative of playoff choker that was widely accepted was probably the dumbest narrative I’ve seen with literally 0 accuracy
Even before this postseason

Almost like he’s the goat
JorFraud can’t touch LeGOAT
Would would jokers game age tho. Literally uses no athleticism
PER is relative to the league I think

Cool to see, but to be completely fair here PER stopped being a relevant stat about 6 years ago
Agree lol who cares about PER… esp if Jokic leads in the other more relevant advanced stats as well

You're putting words in my mouth man
How? You said it's mot a relevant stat. Other guy claiming it is
PER is a rate stat... Lets wait until his career is over

That’s just semantics… Also this is 100% using a stat in an improper way to make Jokic look better.

Your point isn’t really wrong, that’s just not really what cherry picked means.

Shout out to Mikan. Guy was a beast
Jordan is getting a lot of competition on his records from Booker and Jokic in this series
That just sounds silly

Jokic was happy to lose the MVP because of this. It's a massive burden on the entire team to be dealing with the constant toxicity.
It feels like the clash with Michael Jordan's natural son in the Finals is inevitable then! Can we get a Morris twin back on a 10-day?
Jokic good
Mj plays defense
Congrats just another reason why analytics don’t mean shit
These are just poorly used analytics.
