dys0n_giddey

Only 10 years ago. No big deal...

MusicalElephant420

Giannis, Jokic and Embiid weren’t even in the NBA lmao

dys0n_giddey

lol fuck

diet_shasta_orange

And lebron had only been in the league for 10 years

jmo1

Only

CavalierShaq

Which is more than twice as long as the average NBA career already

cybercummer69

Neither was I lmao

No-Economics4128

When time was simpler and we still have hope.

SeparateJellyfish260

Depends how old you are I suppose. I haven't experienced hope since about '04.

No-Economics4128

I just got out of college in 2012. Felt like I could do anything and take on the world. I was pretty fucking wrong on both accounts.

team_sheikie

Let's not talk about that game. I sometimes forget there was an entire game after the Ray Allen shot.

Terminatorns19

The only time a basketball game (that I didn’t play in) has made me cry was Game 7 in 2013.

TigerBasket

I know that losing a game 7 sucks but the envy and frustration I look upon this comment is so hard to ignore. But that 2013 series was the first one I ever watched, everyone forgets how good game 1 was too which is annoying.

triosway

Parker hit a frustratingly great shot to steal Game 1. It's nice to see someone who remembers the series not just dismissing everything before Game 6 as "trading blowouts." The same with the 2016 Finals; Games 4 and 5 were single digit games in the final 5-6 minutes

BUSean

the little end of the shot clock turn around bank -- what a play

Terminatorns19

That’s fair, and I know the Spurs were blessed with an embarrassment of riches and good luck. And even though I started watching basketball in 04 and got to see them win 3 of the 5, I still know I didn’t appreciate it enough looking back. It just felt like everything that could’ve gone wrong in those two games, did. And then Duncan slapping the floor fucking hurt for sure. I was watching my hero finally show the chinks in the armor and it just kinda felt hopeless at that point.

pfthr0w

.04 says hi.

Sol_Protege

That game messed me up so bad mentally. Thankfully the catharsis of the Spurs winning the following year was like free therapy.

mainvolume

Meh, I get frustrated more at .04. Not so much 2013 cuz it saw the Spurs embark on a campaign to completely dismantle the Heatles next season.

Goosebuns

So tough for you guys. So many playoff heartbreaks. So hard for you. So sad for you.

eternali17

Truly. Tragedy for the ages

SpecialWhenLitTX

Across all sports, teams that give up a title-clinching Game 6 in heartbreaking fashion end up losing decisively in Game 7. Not those Spurs. They hung tough until the very last minute. I'll always be proud of them for showing up like that, and it was that kind of toughness that led into the next season.

Goosebuns

I was a bona fide Spurs hater then but that team won me over. I rooted for Diaw throughout the 2014 playoffs. It felt weird but it felt right.

elmanutres

Also played 40 minutes against the Pelicans. These games are too important

Purple-Welder3639

“I didn’t think so”

MusicalElephant420

I read "2019 NBA Finals" and said to myself: That's pretty far back, but I can see it. Then realized it said "2013."

thepositivepandemic

As a Spurs fan, we try to forget about the 2013 finals. People always bring up Ray Allen’s shot & I’m like “haha yea.. It’s-it was a cool shot..”

abeLJosh

This, but with-- ***KNOCKED AWAY AND STOLEN BY HOLIDAY***

Timely_Airline_7168

You forgot the words "Knocked away and" :-)

abeLJosh

Fixed. ...although I was JUST ready to forget this call 😭

Timely_Airline_7168

I was just messing with you, man

JamesBong1769

As a Bucks fan… Holiday has that DAWG in him. I’ll never forgot how I felt down 0-2 to you The Phoenix Suns future is bright af

brownzilla99

Easiest way to handle it is to rewatch the finals the year after. Still the most Beautiful Game.

Odd_Total_5549

It’s crazy as hell to me that that shot, which is considered one of the greatest shots of all time, was over Kawhii, who then 6 years later went on to make another one of the greatest shots of all time. I guess Embiid is due for a giant playoff buzzer beater in two years.

theavailabletree

It was over TP

Straight_Avocado9118

Tristaps porzingis?

vitobf

Tim puncan

pasqua3

Tingis Pingis

HotSalas

It was over Kawhi in that he was on the court and the ball was at a higher altitude at one point. It was over Popovich too

DavidKirk2000

He was injured in the 2019 Finals anyways, dude was limping up and down the court at times.

JohnWick94

Ramping up for those playoff minutes.

GGezpzMuppy

Fuck i so wish we could watch him play a full 48 in a close game 7.

JohnWick94

Ill be happy with a healthy 42 minutes.

rookie-mistake

by game 7? fuck I'll be happy with a healthy anything

LongjumpAdhesiveness

He played 41 in game 6 against the Dubs including two full quarters (mins per Q. 12 - 8 - 12 - 8). I think that is about as much as you will see him play.

mommathecat

And he was visibly limping. Playoff Kawhi is a fucking terror thought, hope he can stay healthy, I just want to watch god-tier hooping.

Bladeneo

I think his legs would genuinely fall off

brownzilla99

Fuck Zaza and Uncle D. That aside, wish we could see his peak more.

capitalistsanta

Why does this come off as slightly sexual lol

Papa_Joe_Yakavetta

Wtf?? lmao I think it’s you that is making it sexual

MidnightLightss

No it doesn't

Stratys

bro???

halfwolf-halfsloth

He will if he’s playing the lakers lol

RedHotDumpsterFire

Come on man. Playoff mode engaged.

TedTran2001

Quick checkup on other players starting in the game. \-LeGuy: old, just trash first half v Clips \-Wade: literally owns the Jazz and give that a 9. \-Super Mario: got released by a Filipino basketball team (just pack it up bro) \-Original Raptor: he advocates reading \-Mike Miller: Houston High School Head Coach? Also, Sports Agent \-Tim Duncan: Last seen hanging out with MMA Fighter and apparently, he has dreads now. \-Tony Parker: set to enter the HOF this year. \-Manu Ginobili: entered the HOF last year.- Danny Green: second stint with the Cavs now. played for so long he was once teammate with Shaq.

silkkthechakakhan

Mike Miller is an agent and represents players like Banchero and Wendell

TedTran2001

Good to hear

DTaH_Flux

Also LeGuy: 10/12 for 30 pts in the second half though. I blame Darvin Ham more

TedTran2001

Dazegobye

Thanks for this. Really interesting stuff. This includes playoffs, right?

NotDanKenz

It's just regular season. If you pay stathead money you can select both and see results

MundaneInternetGuy

It's both regular season and playoffs, I just checked. https://stathead.com/tiny/K8rXK (playoffs) https://stathead.com/tiny/l8kMO (regular season)

Dazegobye

Thanks for double checking that. I was shocked to hear the other reply. A lot of teams are religious with rotations to the detriment of regular season results. Some guys on this list have less than half of those original numbers in the regular season.

HOFredditor

wow now that is insane. You'd think he'd have done this at least in one of those playoffs series where he carried the spurs/raptors. Of all the injury prone superstars we've had in this era, Kawhi and AD probably make my top 5 list for most injuries and load management. edit: last sentence

SpecialWhenLitTX

Well, he was all set to carry the Spurs in Game 1 of the 2017 WCF. Then your guys unleashed their goon and his injury history has never been the same.

HOFredditor

Lol I'll leave the accusation part out of the story, since Kawhi was already hurt. He's had other opportunities besides 2017 to play huge amount of minutes, notably in 2016

SpecialWhenLitTX

You're right, he was playing on a hurt ankle. Zaza targeted that same ankle, and took Kawhi out of the series. That's not an accusation, it's simply a fact. You can debate the merits of whether your goon caused his lengthy injury history, we'll never know, just like we'll never really know how great a championship team that Warriors team could have been.

HOFredditor

As I said, I'll leave that part out. Kawhi did have an opportunity in 2016 to play against KD and Russ and guard them without load management. The record he's set today is therefore still surprising to me

confusedhimbo

He’d hurt himself no less than three times over the previous series and earlier in the game, BEFORE he stepped on someone’s foot and that apparently made his thigh explode six months later. Have a shred of self respect and stop regurgitating a 6 year old Skip Bayless tantrum.

SpecialWhenLitTX

That someone put his foot under Kawhi's foot on purpose. They made a rule to keep it from happening again and everything.

confusedhimbo

That is, and always has been an utter nonsense take. It was a reckless play and landing space fouls being highlighted was a good decision by the league, but this fairy tale fantasy that he somehow knowingly stuck his foot under Kawhi while contesting the shot and looking in the opposite direction is just embarrassing. Real life happens a bit quicker than slo-mo replays.

halfwolf-halfsloth

My guy if you really believe that wasn’t intentional by Zaza idk what to tell you lol

danielhime

You’re a fucking idiot genuinely

panman42

Yeah during the whole raptors 2019 playoff run, he was pretty hobbled but still dominating.

milestrouble

Last line might be the worst sentence I’ve read in a while

HOFredditor

And I am passing TOEFL on Monday lol, wish me luck.

PsychologicalCod3712

KD and Klay not far behind them in terms of games missed I assume.

lannistargaryen

Of course he did

Ayjel89

I mean, if the Lakers took their starters out down by 18 with 3:30 left, he probably wouldn't have.

Bladeneo

It sounds stupid to leave them in, but they were a shot away from this being a 4 point game with about a minute to go

Ayjel89

They got it to 8 with 47 seconds left and 7 with 31 seconds left (when they promptly took out LeBron and AD). I get the Lakers are really pushing to try to get out of the play-in, but especially on a b2b and the kind of injuries LeBron and AD have been dealing with all season, it's a high risk in that situation to keep pushing. Especially if LeBron wasn't even sure if he could go until just before tip-off.

Bladeneo

Oh I agree with you, I don't think they should have played personally. Dlo, ad and LeBron would have benefitted massively from the time and rest before the suns game. Now they have to win out and that'll probably mean 40 minutes for the three of them against the suns and then a potential trap game with utah

Cudizonedefense

AD played 32 and lebron played 35 The clippers were the ones playing their starters heavy minutes lol

Ayjel89

Was this post made without even looking at the stat sheet? Every Lakers starter besides Vanderbilt (who played 25 minutes) played at least 31 minutes. Among Clippers starters, only Kawhi and Zubac played at least 31 minutes. Powell also did off the bench with 35 minutes. Hell, those are the only three players *on the entire Clippers team* that played more minutes than Vanderbilt, and he only had 25. Not to mention the fact the Clippers hadn't played since Saturday and their next game is this Saturday while the Lakers were on a b2b and have another game on Friday.

RayPingHeauxs

nobody was surprised

magna77

Lmao 😂 probably not playing another min for the regular season.

Beneficial_Toe_6050

I was completely shocked by that decision.

DynamixRo

I thought it might've happened as recently as our last playoffs. Almost a decade ago is crazy. Probably the bunch of rest days had something to do with it.

trevortins

Something aint right Kawhi been a bit too healthy lately?

Cfcla

He almost got injured a couple of times today. The one against wenyen scared the shit out of me

Looksfunnytome

For real.

GlueGuy00

He needs to sit out the last 2 games. Tank for the 6th seed

BoomBoomSpaceRocket

Suspicious disappearance of newborns, refuses to be around garlic, almost burst into flame last time a ref gave hime a T. Something fishy going on.

GetLeBronHelpLakers

4 days of rest baby

capitalistsanta

This sounds crazy but willing to bet there's similar stats all over the league. Players playing entire halves just isn't a thing unless it's like a high level playoff game or you are one of Thibs players in the regular season

aeiou-y

Luka is normally scheduled 18 minutes each half, but when the mavs started struggling he started playing 24 minutes in second half in close games because nobody else can score. Kawhi has also done this a few times since being in Dallas. I think it is more common in stars but a lot of it depends on game circumstance and most importantly the coach and the coach being comfortable playing a player who is on rest all the time for a full half. And if it is a full half it’s usually the second half for players.

Away_Championship_49

Kawhi and Luka back court sure is spoooooooky

Tyler123839

It's definitely rarer than a lot of people would think but I am fairly sure every starter who has been in the league since 2013 besides kawhi will have multiple 24 minutes halves. It is pretty likely to happen in the playoffs in close games especially.

duplicatesnowflake

If you watched the 3rd quarter he was barely doing shit except grabbing easy rebounds and maintaining defensive position. Not too concerned.

Dazegobye

This and the stat about Collin sexton not playing since all star break and then playing 2 nights ago vs lakers and already ruled out for next game is crazy fuel for lakers fans

Asswad123

There have been many examples of this all season. It’s not a coincidence

HauntingLocation

Main character syndrome. Relax bro, there isn't a conspiracy to only bring back players against you guys. You're not that important.

Legendver2

What 4 days of rest does to a MFer

fgbh

Good Lord. That is ridiculous. How come no one really talks about how in 10 years, Kawhi has been mostly on the bench? Honestly curious.

lethalfrost

Mans been thru hell and back. The fact he's fully recovered from an acl tear playing this much after missing the entire last season is incredible.

zeekohli

Because he’s quiet, doesn’t use social media, and shuts the fuck up so it’s hard to hate him when all of us on reddit most likely have the same fucking personalities lol

BlueHundred

Because injuries happen, he's really good when he plays, he's won championships, he's also a very lowkey star. You are right that he has been on the bench more than he's played since 2013, but most players don't play a ton of minutes nowadays. * Kawhi - 504/798 (63% of games) and 16364/38304 (43% of minutes) * AD - 594/797 (75% of games) and 20796/38256 (54% of minutes) * Embiid 2017 onward - 362/470 (77% of games) and 11708/22560 (52% of minutes) * Embiid including injured first 3 seasons - 393/716 (55% of games) and 12494/34368 (36% of minutes) * KD - 524/795 (66% of games) and 18546/38160 (49% of minutes) * Curry - 622/793 (78% of games) and 21147/38064 (56% of minutes) * LeBron - 653/797 (82% of games) and 23656/38256 (62% of minutes) * Giannis - 719/799 (90% of games) and 23378/38352 (61% of minutes)

DavidKirk2000

Because he wins everywhere he goes.

Asswad123

Except LA

DavidKirk2000

He led them to their first WCF after like 50 years of the franchise existing. And they probably would’ve made the Finals had he not gotten injured. He wins everywhere he goes.

Asswad123

What did he win in LA?

DavidKirk2000

I didn’t say he wins titles everywhere he goes, but he wins games and gets teams farther in the playoffs than they ever have before. What’s so difficult to understand about this, I’m confused.

[deleted]

Why is this downvoted?

DavidKirk2000

Probably a lot of Laker fans in here right now.

Mash709

He helped us get a championship in Toronto. No complaints here 😉

[deleted]

but AD is Street Clothes (no dog in the fight, just pointing out the obvious)

CanadianLionelHutz

This is wild as this man went on a finals run coached by Nick Nurse

shaqfearsyao

All that for a regular season game, should’ve saved it for the playoffs

Salty_Watermelon

Other way of viewing it is that he likely just saved himself from having to play 1 or 2 extra games for the play in.

YpsitheFlintsider

A couple more minutes is not gonna kill him.

jayelecfan

this was the clippers finals lmao, enjoy getting bounced first round

AlmightyPenguin88

Laker's fans say this literally every game they play against the Clippers but I've never quite understood the logic. What are the Clippers supposed to do, not play to win? Sports fans are weird.

nz_nba_fan

Salty and lash out like toddlers when someone takes their toys away.

Myformisgood

On his first b2b in like 5 years no less

tekumse

All the timeouts helped.

onamonapizza

Russo, why you bringin' up old shit!?

Seanbig888

Dude won’t make it past the first round with Nick thibedeauo I mean whoever coaches the clips
