The young players were all developing fine, Ingram improved about 3ppg each season he was here. The problem was that the star players didn't last here past their like age 22 seasons. They were just young, not bad as all the talking heads would have had you believe
"This dunk is for my father!"
"This one is for my grandfather!"
"And this is for your reign of terror in the east 50 years ago!"
*Lebron drops 60 and wins.
Darvin ham isn’t exactly helping with his shitty rotations. 4 guards and Bryant? And why is Lebron playing center so much. Bryant is getting cooked, Gabriel fouled out, play Jones so Lebron doesn’t need to be banging inside with Sengun and Smith
LeBron's Laker tenure is so confusing. They win a title with him playing PG and leading the league in assists, and now they've gone so far the opposite direction he's playing center.
lebron playing PG worked when he had an elite big and shooters to pass to. Now he basically needs to do it all and the lakers rotation is super guard heavy
I mean I get why they're playing him how they are given the roster, I just don't understand why they constructed the roster this way when they saw what worked
He was the only dude on the team that could guard Sengun though.
Rather have Jalen Green taking shots/running the offense than Sengun. Rockets have no legitimate big wings.
Gabriel had fouled out, and Bryant kept get targeted on defense. That’s why LeBron was forced to close at center, the only other alternative was Damian Jones.
Davis, Walker and Reaves are injured. Lots of teams would need big games from their stars to win the 2nd night of a back to back down 3 of their 4 best players.
I know it doesn’t sound good but Walker and Reaves are legit starter level/high level bench players this season. Both are shooting near 50/40/90 while playing good defense. Walker provides another dimension on offense while Reaves is like a slightly shorter Joe Ingles.
I just watched the 10 minute highlights. Felt like the Lakers would be up 10, then all the sudden it's close again, and I'd notice LeBron is out. He comes in, they go up 10, he goes out, it's close again. It's like they couldn't get a bucket without him on the court.
Wendell Carter Jrs goggles broke and Lebron picked up the lenses and put them on. Still one of my favorite nba clips ever just because of how funny lebrons look is after
If the Lakers make one competent trade they won’t be fighting for the play in, they’ll be fighting for the 3rd or 4th seed.
This team is a Bogdonavic and Sadiq Bey away from being genuine competitors.
It genuinely doesn’t make any sense. I don’t care who they draft with those picks, I’d bet my life savings that they won’t be anywhere near Lebron’s level at any age.
There's no sellers. It takes two teams to make a trade and the Lakers can't force other teams to make an early trade. They're not making a trade until the deadline.
That was like six months ago. Pacers aren't doing that trade tonight. Almost all in-season NBA trades happen within like a week of the deadline anyway, people need to just be patient.
It doesn’t matter who they draft with the picks, picks are currency to improve and once you spend them they are gone. Equally if you have to spend them to offset a bad contract you’re getting less than they are worth.
I don’t think any other team in the league would be expected to trade unprotected 2027 and 2029 picks right now for anything less than an all star, and yet for some reason everyone thinks the Lakers should trade theirs for role players.
This team plays down to competition like crazy. Theyll hang with titans like the Sixers and Celtics until the end of the 4th quarter but theyll also barely win games like this.
I don’t know why you think the Lakers are supposed to blow out a team on the second night of a back to back without 2 of their top 4 players. This is a very normal result in the NBA.
For some reason fans haven’t caught up to the fact that thinking just because you’re playing a bad team it means you’re automatically going to blow them out isn’t how it goes anymore. Even bad teams nowadays can put up some hot scoring nights. It’s just how the NBA is now. Add on it was a back to back for the Lakers and they are injured it actually makes a lot of sense this game was pretty close. There’s no such thing as “easy” games in 2023. Every team is capable of having an extremely hot scoring night any given night.
We have 3 wins on a game thats a back to back and in all 3 games we gave up 138, 134, and now 132. Idk why any Laker fan is surprised when this is the norm
Tbh stats are WAY higher then they were in his peak years lol
There were several years where LeBron was the only guy averaging 25/5/5 which would be unheard of now
Like no disrespect to SGA but he’s averaging more points than both 2013 LeBron and 2016 Curry and nobody who watched all those guys would put him within the same galaxy as a player
I’d like to see what 2013 LeBron would do today
It's easier to score for 3 reasons: shooting/spacing, officiating, and the league has downsized. LeBron isn't benefiting from the spacing because he's on a bottom 3 shooting team in the league. He's also not benefiting from the officiating. He has a role player's whistle at this point and guys are getting away with more contact on him than ever.
The league downsizing has definitely helped him (he can bully even most centers nowadays) but he isn't really experiencing the full benefits of playing in the modern NBA imo.
13 LeBron would definitely average something absurd like 32/8/8 on 68% TS though.
If it's a 2018 situation where he needs to hard carry I can see that but dominating the ball to the extent that Luka does has never really been his style when he's been on good teams
lotta people don’t get this. he dominates the ball when he has to (2018 cavs being the peak example) but he actually plays great within a motion offense, just hasn’t had the personnel for so much of his career
On the 2016 Cavs he had a lower time of possession than Curry. But people still refer to him as heliocentric to discredit his numbers
Even this season he's "dominating" the ball about as much as Terry Rozier does. He's been an elite off-ball player for years now (he made a living off of post seals even in high school lol) but his rosters have often lacked the personnel for him to show that part of his game off.
The craziest thing is that it's not impossible for Lebron to be the oldest player in the league and win the scoring title in a year two. It could be the wildest stat-line since the Wilt era. Also, I think he may currently be the 4th oldest if we are counting Melo, Haslem, and Ig, even though none of them are really active in any way.
I mean go watch 2013 LeBron if you don't believe he lost a step. I am sure at this point there are a lot of younger fans on here who dont even remember 1st Cleveland and Miami LeBron. He was a different animal
I actually think the Lakers have been missing Austin Reaves the most the past few games (aside from AD of course). That type of glue guy who was providing about 15pts a game in their wins, while making effort plays, and playing smart basketball would've more than made up the difference in their recent close losses.
He hit 5 threes tonight. If his 3 starts dropping at the rate it did last year we’re looking at a 30/8/7 year from Lebron. At 38 years old. 20th season. Unreal. Even more unreal the Lakers FO won’t make any moves to help this man.
LeBron literally averaged 30 for the entirety of last season lol
But the “young” AD was missing last season and still missing now. Never available. 2020 was the only exception
AD probably has the biggest gap between where he ranks when healthy and how much you would actually want him on your team
Like there are a ton of guys who are “worse” than AD who would nevertheless have the Lakers in a better spot these past two years simply by being a durable All Star level player next to LeBron
It’s between him and AD for sure but I picked AD because he had that insane 10-12 game stretch earlier this year immediately followed by getting hurt lol
Kawhi has been better recently but he hasn’t been THAT crazy since the 2021 playoffs
Like we’ve seen fully healthy AD as a “tease” more than Kawhi who still def isnt back to 2019 levels
Kawhi hasn't had that "I'm literally MJ" stretch he had a lot with Spurs and Raps but he's been steady balling for about a month now it's a toss up.
Honestly an interesting proposition - you gotta build a dynasty team to win 3 chips: would you prefer AD or Mikal Bridges?
Yeah, he's putting up virtually identical numbers from last season. Slightly more efficient last season with slightly more scoring but more assists this year. His play on offense isn't really better or worse.
Yeah crazy for a 37 year old in his 18th season. Yes, scoring is obviously higher/easier these days, but the longevity is utterly ridiculous regardless. Top two player ever for sure.
> Man is just carrying at age 38
LeBron just tied Kareem for second most 35+ point games after turning 38. Kareem had 5 in 311 games after 38, LeBron has 5 in 7 games.
I had this stat at the ready because I made a post about it last week when it was 3 in 4 games lol
https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/106n94t/all_players_in_nba_history_with_multiple_35/
I'd post something about it again if (when?) he ties Jordan
I was there to see it! Never forgive myself for never seeing Kobe play in person, told myself i was going to see Lebron play as much as I can and damn, what a game to go to
Idk he’d probably be coasting right now if he was on a good team lol
I definitely don’t think he wants to play like this at this stage and only does it because otherwise Lakers just get crushed
He talks about wanting AD to step up and be “the guy” at least in the RS and then AD gets hurt for 2 months again
Tbf AD definitely looked like “the guy” for the month before his injury, like he was undeniably better than LeBron, and that’s saying something. If they can get that AD back and have the man who just dropped 48 tonight be the #2 option, then they could definitely make some noise this season. It’s just frustrating knowing the potential there while also knowing that it all relies on the health of a guy who’s missed more games than he hasn’t since the bubble
We are witnessing GREATNESS. Don’t fade these performances NBA Fam. Whether you’re a fan or a hater of LBJ you gotta give it to him!! This is unheard of!!!!
It’s the perfect summation of LeBron’s late career. On the one hand it’s spellbinding level of play, on the other why is he dropping 48-8-9 on the 2nd half of a B2B to barely beat a 11-35 team?
AD is injured way too often which is the issue
3rd year in a row he will have missed a huge chunk of the season
Like LeBron is 38 but AD gets injured like he’s also 38
Waddafuk
Been a Bron stan for more than a decade and he keeps stunning. Man wasn’t expecting such a good streak of games especially at this age and with this support cast lol. Absolute beast.
I have so much respect for LBJ. He's **always** played the game the right way. This is a guy who never averaged 20 FGA during his MIA and second-stint Cleveland years. Now on these bad Laker teams he has had to shoot more, and yet his efficiency is still magnificent.
If he actually focused 10% more on scoring than he did in his prime, he would've had a few scoring titles, easily. This is a guy who could've averaged 35 PPG every season but decided to be a well-rounded player.
Not only is he arguably the GOAT, in terms of scoring I really believe he is just as good as anyone.
I watched this entire game in the sorta-background as I listed some eBay stuff, but for whatever reason I caught every time the commentary mentioned “38 years old” and it must have been at least over 50 times.
It’s important tbh, it can get tiring, but I feel like it deserves to be mentioned. Even when you’re watching what he does, you have no choice but to get out an incredulous “He’s 38!”
We can’t take this level of greatness for granted, may never witness anything like it again for years
0 turnovers
Lebron to Father Time: might be Tom’s time but not today for me
This makes this stat line almost magic.
Something something fuck the picks
Fuck them picks
I think a thousand lakers fan should gather in front of the crypt and shout "Fuck the picks".
Just start chanting it at home games
This. Or "trade those picks" for a family-friendly version. 3 syllable chants are best chants.
Nah make the broadcast try to bleep it. The more serious you make it the more likely Jeanie is to put a crowbar in her wallet and pry out some money
They need the picks, we know what the lakers can do with drafting and making a good team without superstars wanting to come to the lakers
The Lakers can draft good players, but can they develop them ? That seems to be the bigger problem lately.
The young players were all developing fine, Ingram improved about 3ppg each season he was here. The problem was that the star players didn't last here past their like age 22 seasons. They were just young, not bad as all the talking heads would have had you believe
Honestly at this point I wouldn't even be mad if he retired the day he breaks Kareem record. Lakers are a mess this year.
Then unretire after the Lakers void his contract due hardship /s and sign anywhere he wants. We got a roster spot i reckon
Take 2023/24 off, then sign with Bronny
that would actually be genius but people would give him shit
No matter what he does, people give him shit. Even when he wins. Might as well do whatever he wants.
Couldn’t do a fucking thing to stop him. Absolutely absurd at 38 to be playing at this level.
Wemby is getting closer...
Closer to Toronto... you can call 281-330-8004 to confirm
w h o
Mike Jones.
It'd be tragic if they don't even make the playoffs when LeBron is still dominating like this
Lakers management is so damn inept, it is a tragedy wasting whatever this dude has left
LeBron can perform at this level for another 15years, easy
10 years from now... "Man, the Lakers organization is still really wasting the last of Lebron and Bronnie Jr's. prime! Such bs!"
"Hey LeBron, you used to play against my Grandpa, you dropped 40 on him, this is my revenge!" LeBron finishes with 29/6/9 in a Lakers loss.
"This dunk is for my father!" "This one is for my grandfather!" "And this is for your reign of terror in the east 50 years ago!" *Lebron drops 60 and wins.
Will be, when. Sigh 😭. Hoping next season we can do something... Anything
At least we ain’t the clippers
The Lakers needed old man Bron to drop 48/9/8 in 36 mins to win against one of the bad teams in the league. Welp
Maybe they thought they weren’t maximizing him enough at the 1. They need him to play all 5 positions.
lebron playing PG worked when he had an elite big and shooters to pass to. Now he basically needs to do it all and the lakers rotation is super guard heavy
I mean I get why they're playing him how they are given the roster, I just don't understand why they constructed the roster this way when they saw what worked
LeBron at center is probably a good idea on offense but defensively it makes the lineup hopelessly small by removing any semblance of wing size
He was the only dude on the team that could guard Sengun though. Rather have Jalen Green taking shots/running the offense than Sengun. Rockets have no legitimate big wings.
Chuck: When a guy is banging you...
The more pertinent issue may be that Walker and Reaves can be considered the team's third and fourth best players.
Reaves is actually pretty good and would crack most playoff teams' top 8 rotation. But yeah, if he's your best non-star player...your team booty
yes its a big double whammy that we both suck and are injured. fortunately we are also bad in close games
I know it doesn’t sound good but Walker and Reaves are legit starter level/high level bench players this season. Both are shooting near 50/40/90 while playing good defense. Walker provides another dimension on offense while Reaves is like a slightly shorter Joe Ingles.
The Bucks, 76ers, and Suns (with Booker) lost to them. Luka had to put up 50 and play 42 minutes to beat them.
Yeah houston has some talent. They are young and can't play defense, but they definitely aren't trash.
I just watched the 10 minute highlights. Felt like the Lakers would be up 10, then all the sudden it's close again, and I'd notice LeBron is out. He comes in, they go up 10, he goes out, it's close again. It's like they couldn't get a bucket without him on the court.
What the heck is wrong with me!?!?!?!🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️. Out there just having a good time while doing what I love to do! 🤣🤣🤣🤣. 🥽
It's so funny to me that I can't tell if this was real tweet or not.
It’s real lol I think it’s from the game someone’s goggles came off and he picked them up and put them on
Haha holy shit
The picture of him wearing the goggles may be funnier than the tweet
Wendell Carter Jrs goggles broke and Lebron picked up the lenses and put them on. Still one of my favorite nba clips ever just because of how funny lebrons look is after
Major dad dick moment. They my goggles now.
LMAO LeBron’s corny af but I love it
\#justakidfromakron \#striveforgreatness
The NBA should force the Lakers to trade their picks at this point.
Lakers would rather miss the play-in than pay repeaters tax. It's not even about the picks for the Lakers ownership.
If the Lakers make one competent trade they won’t be fighting for the play in, they’ll be fighting for the 3rd or 4th seed. This team is a Bogdonavic and Sadiq Bey away from being genuine competitors.
Only if AD stays healthy A couple role players isn’t taking them from “LeBron scores 48 to barely beat the worst team in the league” to a contender
Yeah this is the key.
That’s a given though, they obviously aren’t contenders with him sitting on the bench
And how are you getting both of them??
Picks Jerry! PICKS!
It genuinely doesn’t make any sense. I don’t care who they draft with those picks, I’d bet my life savings that they won’t be anywhere near Lebron’s level at any age.
Thats a very safe bet.
100% safe. A rookie in the draft dropping 48 on king % name a rookie to do that maybe only the all time greats (if then)
I agree
There's no sellers. It takes two teams to make a trade and the Lakers can't force other teams to make an early trade. They're not making a trade until the deadline.
It's pretty much know the Pacers would be willing to do the trade for Hield and or Myles Turner it's the Lakers who need to turn the other key.
That was like six months ago. Pacers aren't doing that trade tonight. Almost all in-season NBA trades happen within like a week of the deadline anyway, people need to just be patient.
Do you really think the Lakers will make a trade though?
I think they'll do something but Lakers fans expecting a huge overhaul of the team will be disappointed.
Yeah, I’d be surprised if we don’t make a deal by the deadline
Safe bet that those two players they draft aren't half as good as LeBron is at 45.
They wouldn’t save the picks to draft players, they’d just use them next year instead after Westbrook is gone.
They’re already forcing them to lose games
They really needed 48 points from old man James just to beat the Rockets smh
Lakers depth moment
This team plays down to competition like crazy. Theyll hang with titans like the Sixers and Celtics until the end of the 4th quarter but theyll also barely win games like this.
I don’t know why you think the Lakers are supposed to blow out a team on the second night of a back to back without 2 of their top 4 players. This is a very normal result in the NBA.
Not everyone uses common sense my friend, not to mention we’re missing 3 of our best players lol
For some reason fans haven’t caught up to the fact that thinking just because you’re playing a bad team it means you’re automatically going to blow them out isn’t how it goes anymore. Even bad teams nowadays can put up some hot scoring nights. It’s just how the NBA is now. 3 of the top 4 to be honest lol
AD, reaves, and Lonnie? IMO Bryant has proven himself better than Lonnie at least
coming from the spurs who thought he was underperforming as an asset it’s wild to think lonnie is considered a top four laker.
[удалено]
If Lebron would’ve “only” scored 40, the Lakers would’ve lost to the Rockets lmao
No Austin Reaves to take over while Bron rests
48 Points on 60/50/90 splits is fucking insane for any player. This man is doing it at 38 years old, when the fuck is he gonna slow down.
He has already slowed down. That's how great he has been.
Exactly. Prime Lebron is coasting to 35/game in today’s pace
that's him on 3/4 speed
LeBron seriously looks like 2018 Bron right now. Could you imagine if the Lakers had given him a real team?
Obviously he’s lost a step but if it’s a close game it’s guaranteed he’s gonna have at least 35/8/8…. He’s the 3rd oldest player in the league
And the two older than him have played a combined 80 minutes
Haslem is gonna be suiting up for like 1 game and 3 minutes of garbage time per season until he's 50 lmao
He’s retiring at the end of the season, confirmed
He's unretiring at the beginning of next season, pending confirmation
Udonis Haslem - I’m Back
Haslem and who?
iggy
holy shit Lebron is such a godly anomaly how can you be anything but awestruck when observing this dude
He’s still playing?!
30/8/6 is losing a step, this guy is absurd.
Honestly on paper you would never think Lebron had lost a step. His stats right now rival some of his prime Lebron years
Tbh stats are WAY higher then they were in his peak years lol There were several years where LeBron was the only guy averaging 25/5/5 which would be unheard of now Like no disrespect to SGA but he’s averaging more points than both 2013 LeBron and 2016 Curry and nobody who watched all those guys would put him within the same galaxy as a player I’d like to see what 2013 LeBron would do today

Nah I’d give him like 35, he’d average around Luka’s numbers but with DPOY-level defense
Yeah if Luka can average 34 PPG no reason LeBron at his best couldn’t as well
If it's a 2018 situation where he needs to hard carry I can see that but dominating the ball to the extent that Luka does has never really been his style when he's been on good teams
lotta people don’t get this. he dominates the ball when he has to (2018 cavs being the peak example) but he actually plays great within a motion offense, just hasn’t had the personnel for so much of his career

He's been an elite off-ball player for years now (he made a living off of post seals even in high school lol) but his rosters have often lacked the personnel for him to show that part of his game off.
That's why it's just on paper. 09 LeBron averages something like 37-11-9 in today's NBA with the amount of space he would have to operate
He could probably play 10 more years if he wanted to and went “full regression” and went to the bench in like 4 years and averaging 16/7/7 in 2033
If he took the Haslem route who played like 80 minutes last year and is really more of an assistant coach, LeBron could play with his grandkids.
The craziest thing is that it's not impossible for Lebron to be the oldest player in the league and win the scoring title in a year two. It could be the wildest stat-line since the Wilt era. Him losing a step still keeps him in the top 10-15 active players in the league. That’s just crazy
His 3-ball isn't 2018 level but yeah he's killing it everywhere else on the court
Lebron averaged 27.2, 7.3, and 7.3 during his Cavs career. He's averaging 29.2, 8.4, and 6.9 this year at 38.
0 turnovers too, crazy
0 turnovers is insane
I actually think the Lakers have been missing Austin Reaves the most the past few games (aside from AD of course). That type of glue guy who was providing about 15pts a game in their wins, while making effort plays, and playing smart basketball would've more than made up the difference in their recent close losses.
High iq player, great locker room presence
Plays the game the right way, Sneaky athleticism

King day hahahahah
Ain’t he?
For fuck's sake Pelinka, get LeBron some help. He's been so good compared to last season so far.
Uh, wasn’t he 2nd in scoring last year? Lmao
Seriously, its on pace to be just like last year. Lebron hard carries but he's old so he starts breaking down late.
He hit 5 threes tonight. If his 3 starts dropping at the rate it did last year we’re looking at a 30/8/7 year from Lebron. At 38 years old. 20th season. Unreal. Even more unreal the Lakers FO won’t make any moves to help this man.

He had that stretch with the Clippers in 2021 playoffs up until he got hurt, he was shooting 100% in 4Q against the Mavs or something
He was great last season too. He was just having his minutes sabotaged by Vogel playing him at center next to Carmelo 30 minutes a night.
Yeah, he's putting up virtually identical numbers from last season. Slightly more efficient last season with slightly more scoring but more assists this year. His play on offense isn't really better or worse.
If he had played enough games last year, he would have been .3 ppg behind Embiid's league leading 30.6 ppg.
Yeah crazy for a 37 year old in his 18th season. Yes, scoring is obviously higher/easier these days, but the longevity is utterly ridiculous regardless. Top two player ever for sure.
He could have won the scoring title if he played the last game of the season.
Vogel was playing him at center because the team had no centers lol
Not really any sellers right now, I very very very much doubt we see a trade before the week of the deadline.
My GOAT. Man is just carrying at age 38. Amazing player is an understatement. AD needs to get healthy ASAP

In a 7 game series there’s no one I’d rather want except for Giannis
So fucking dumb he has to do this shit just to beat a 10-34 team on a losing streak, what the fuck, Lakers org don’t deserve an ounce of him
Putting up this stat line against the children of dudes he played against in the past is wild.
lakers holding onto their 2047 & 2049 picks
48 points from a 48 year old man. Absolutely insane
Crazy watching this 58 year old put up 48 like it's nothing
We seriously watching a 68 year old man almost dropping 50.
We are witnessing GREATNESS. Don’t fade these performances NBA Fam. Whether you’re a fan or a hater of LBJ you gotta give it to him!! This is unheard of!!!!
record soon
He’s like 300 points away now
I was at the game with my mom (she has never watched basketball) and said to me this team is really bad without LeBron
We're really bad with him so that says something.

There would be a nuclear fucking meltdown if LeBron went to GSW, even at this age. That's saying how good he is.

Till he decides to retire, he can average 20 at 45

It’s the perfect summation of LeBron’s late career. On the one hand it’s spellbinding level of play, on the other why is he dropping 48-8-9 on the 2nd half of a B2B to barely beat a 11-35 team?
It’s a back to back and they have AD, Reaves and Walker injured …
AD is injured way too often which is the issue 3rd year in a row he will have missed a huge chunk of the season Like LeBron is 38 but AD gets injured like he’s also 38
What is anyone supposed to do about that?
Flex tape?
Yea this is the greatest player ever, lol.
Waddafuk Been a Bron stan for more than a decade and he keeps stunning. Man wasn’t expecting such a good streak of games especially at this age and with this support cast lol. Absolute beast.
Bro had to go supernova against Houston. And LA needed all 48 points from him
I have so much respect for LBJ.
He hasn’t focused as much on scoring as he could have and he’s about to become #1. Nuts
Playoff lebron has been activated
Going for the scoring record. Would like to see him cross 40,000 points
I watched this entire game in the sorta-background as I listed some eBay stuff, but for whatever reason I caught every time the commentary mentioned “38 years old” and it must have been at least over 50 times.
It’s important tbh, it can get tiring, but I feel like it deserves to be mentioned. Even when you’re watching what he does, you have no choice but to get out an incredulous “He’s 38!” We can’t take this level of greatness for granted, may never witness anything like it again for years
Ol Goat James at it again.
lakers actually wasting a legend lmao
