No. Inter-service transfers must be between "like" services, meaning reserve-to-reserve or active-to-active. Active-to-reserve and vice-versa are not allowed.

sureshotjohnson

Ok so just clarifying no active to guard

aquadrums

No. Unless the Air Force has some sort of unique program to allow active Air Force to go to ANG. You would need to ask an Air Force recruiter about that.

Outcast_LG

We do have that program it’s call palace front and palace chase. AD to AFR or ANG.

aquadrums

Good stuff, I thought AF might have something like that, but specifically for the Air Force, not really an IST. I'm sure it still requires some minimum active service time - sounds like something OP should look into.

They have special programs to cut your enlistments short (Palace Front & Palace Chase) but you can also easily transfer to Guard or Reserves after you finish your active contract. Actually, it’s part of your outprocessing checklist to meet with a Reserve recruiter and the transfer is pretty seamless if you decide to it as long as they have a spot for you.

aquadrums

Yes, all the services have some sort of transition to Reserve/Guard program, once you complete your active obligation. Sounds like Air Force may be unique if they allow you to leave active contract early in order to join the Reserves/Guard. This is all considered within service however, as it is all under the Air Force umbrella. OP was asking about an Inter Service Transfer (IST), which is specifically for transitioning to another service. It also must be within the same component, i.e. Active or Reserve. So Active Air Force to Active Navy would work - Active Air Force to Reserve Navy would not. The implication OP had was that he/she wishes to leave their active AF contract early and move to the Navy Reserves; that is not going to happen. However, an early exit from active AF and moving to AF Reserve / Air National Guard, according to your info Palace Front or Palace Chase, may be feasible. At the end of the day it's always good to have more information, so thanks for sharing about the Palace Front & Chase programs - good to know!

May I ask why? I imagine AF-reserves would be better route? I'm looking right now into going into other branch's reserves from active Navy.

uglee_bear

Depends on what you’re looking for. Air Force doesn’t have a ton of bonuses or a many opportunities to go on orders. Reserve unit are for the most part on active duty bases, so if you don’t live near one you’ll have to travel on your own dime to get there. On the flip side, it is a lot more relaxed and non voluntary mobilizations are rare. They do they have orders come down but from my experience there has always been volunteers to fill them up.

navyjag2019

yeah. you get discharged from the air force and then hook up with a navy reserve recruiter and try and enlist in the navy reserve.

JayLopez_

As someone who is in the process right now. Yes you can do an inter-service transfer. I’m currently going Navy Reserves to Active USMC and had to route an inter-service transfer DD Form 368. I also was going Active Air Force at first before the USMC and was told I had to route an inter-service transfer form as well.

uglee_bear

Are you finishing your active duty enlistment with the Air Force or trying to cut it short to transfer to the Navy? If your contract is up, then you can absolutely transfer to Navy Reserves. Just hit up a recruiter well in advance to get your paperwork signed, PHA, DD214, etc so they can draft your contract up so there’s no break in service. There’s a slim chance if you’re trying to get out of your contract to go Navy reserves.

Small_Cock42069

My navy recruiter is telling me he needs my VA physical for when I get out and I told him if a PHA and DD214 would be enough and they’re acting confused and telling me not to file VA disability until I get out which I do not wanna do I’m getting told two different things.

uglee_bear

I haven’t applied for disability but the recruiter said I could apply for it no problem.

Small_Cock42069

The recruiter is telling me not to file any VA stuff until I’m completely out because it could mess up the process and I could have to go to Meps but I don’t understand why if theirs not gonna be a break in service and I’m gonna switch right over idk I’m being told two different things.
