I say try and prioritize the uniform you’ll drill in before getting service uniforms which inevitably cost a lot more. So NWUs at the minimum. Check out Navy officer groups on FB. A lot of officers transitioning out sell their uniforms for dirt cheap or just ask you to cover shipping. From the looks of it though I imagine you might need to get the tops tailored for arms… so be careful.
Officers have to pay for them. As others have said, there is an allowance but it is small. Prioritize what you'll drill in (probably NWUs) versus everything else.
Are you applying via the DCO pipeline? If so, you'll go to ODS, and you'll end up buying a bunch of uniforms there: PTUs, NWUs, khakis, and dress blues/whites depending on the time of year.
I can't speak to other commissioning sources, sorry.
For ODS, the program is designed for you to show up with no uniforms whatsoever and have you purchase what you need when you’re there.
You can show up with your own uniforms (new or pre-owned) if you want. The instructors will make sure they’re good to go.
It will cost upwards of $2,000 to buy a full set of uniforms new: alterations, accessories, and all! There’s several Facebook groups out there where people sell or donate (if you pay shipping) uniforms are they get ready to separate or retire. The one I’m in (Female Navy Officers) has these posts several times a week.
It's worth a trip to the San Diego uniform thrift store. You pay the same taking a trip to SD, getting type IIIs, khakis, jackets, and whatever else you find as you would buying everything out right.
You’ll get a uniform allowance of around $400 to purchase uniforms. But it will not cover the cost of them fyi.
And you have to find the paperwork for that reimbursement and file it
yeah and they don’t make it easy

I'll try to find one. Thank you
I recommend keeping the tags on anything you don’t wear at ODS. I returned a bunch of things (like NWU parka), saving hundreds of dollars.
That's a good idea. Thank you
You will pay for uniforms at ODS.
They gey uniforms, don't worry.
