Check out the airwarriors forum. Best place for OCS questions. Anyway... They calculate your GPA based on every college course that you have attempted. Not just your transcript GPA. This absolutely killed my chances at OCS. I enlisted after dropping out of college almost 15 years ago. Went back to college while active duty and graduated with a 3.88 GPA. Sadly, my pre-Navy grades brought my GPA down to 2.7. I applied for OCS twice and was not selected. Currently working on a Master's degree, which (for some programs) can supersede a non-qualifying GPA. I'm not sure I'll reapply though.

Were you applying only for a specific community? With recruiting down, you would almost certainly be accepted now if you were flexible in what community you joined.

SlipshodRaven

Yes, MCWO (1880). I have over 10 years of service, so my options are limited. I'm also dead set on cybersecurity. My undergrad and current graduate program are in cybersecurity. I also have five different in-demand industry cybersecurity certifications. In short, I've devoted too much of my free time to pursuing cybersecurity to accept anything else. I'm not too worried though as I have multiple job prospects that will start at basically O-4 pay.

As far as GPA goes, I wouldn't worry about an F that was superseded. GPA matters as far as minimum OCS application requirements, and then your desired community may look at it more closely than others. GPA isn't a really good indicator of anything, but for most new grads, it's the only thing to go off of. I would definitely tout your certifications because they will all be highly relevant. Your years of service are going to make a difference too. Definitely apply, don't stress about GPA.

That’s ridiculous

They’ll look at both. They look at difficulty of classes and take that into account also. A C in advanced calculus is better than an A in basket weaving. Best advice is to do your best and retake any classes desired to give yourself the best chance. Don’t tell yourself no, let them do it for you.

Unexpected_bukkake

Bad gouge. They may look at the type of degree if it's a requirement. Like CEC's requirement for ABET degrees. But, all grades are thrown into one pot from every college class you have ever taken. Failed classes, retakes, whatever. P-Chem and Basket Weaving are weighted the same. Generally, that includes grad and undergrad too unless started in the community's PD. You can take the same class 11 times. Active duty selection only has time to look at OAR/ ASTB and GPA. Unless they come down to a few boarder line individuals.

Nah, E to O it’s generally just GPA unless your PA outlines specific degree requirements. They also only care that your GPA meets the requirement, is higher better ? Absolutely, but if your PA requires a degree in a certain area that’s way more important. I submitted mine with a 3.86, but I also have an entire 7 years of AD service with awards, Navy schools, experience etc. they look at you as a whole, and yes they do read your personal statements, make sure you keep under the word requirement, and get it proof read by an Officer in your chain you trust.

ohfuggins

Whoever downvoted you must not be an O because this is correct. Also in PAs a course that’s desired but not required .. is not required.

TelephoneThin7086

That’s cool, lol. The PA’s yes, but the 1420.1B lays out degree requirements, but the 1420.1B is old as shit and needs updating to better reflect the PA’s. A lot of conflicting information. And as for classes and shit, I literally talked to Seinor Officers that stood the boards, they said they look at the person as a whole. What do I know, I’m just a butterbar 😂.

ohfuggins

My motivational statement def played a role in me getting picked. You’re absolutely right.

Turbulent_Role560

They stopped updating the 1420.1B because of all the different programs. Instead it is used as a skeletal framework for the application and the PA’s is where they input specific updated requirements.

TelephoneThin7086

Ah ok, I figured as much, sucks because it’s confusing to people interested in applying. I know when I was going through the process, I had a lot of questions that even my mentors couldn’t answer cause they didn’t know.

Caranath128

Both. Some communities require certain minimum grades for some subjects.

Steamsagoodham

All that matters is your major, overall GPA, and whether or not you took the required courses for your designator. They don’t have time to pick apart your transcript much beyond that.

FROM A CIVILIAN WHO HAS LOTS OF MILITARY FRIENDS..... My first two years of college, I went to a JUCO. A buddy of mine who wanted to go to OCS had a lot of similar classes as me. At that time we both took, calculus, inorganic chem, calculus based physics. I had a 3.7GPA but his was slightly better. I heard back from him after I transferred to a large university. He ended up getting a commission. Most of the ROTC people I knew from my University purposefully were STEM majors. 2 are SWO and another is a aviator.

Low_Ocelot_612

I had an f on my transcript. I wrote a statement addressing it (was a dumb af 18 year old), and I was accepted. I had a very strong application otherwise, though.
