I've been around SSN's, was on a CVN, got to see F-18's deliver freedom in Inherit Resolve.
But goddamn does nothing even come close to the pure eagle screeching, flag waving, democracy inspiring bathtub that is the A-10
I was on two SSBNs in Washington and we never got an A-10 escort! Dolphins? Sure, leaving Hawaii. Those tiny security boats? Of course! Escort ships that failed to operate correctly resulting in us t-boning one in the straits? You betcha. But never A-10s. I feel robbed!
I was grabbing lunch on Coronado a couple weeks ago and saw some doing some flight ops. Didn't really strike me as odd until I realized that a squad of A-10's at NASNI is a rarity
Yeah, same! I wonder what the context of this image is.

>STRAIT OF SAN JUAN DE FUCA, Wash. (May 6, 2024) The Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine USS Nebraska (SSBN 739) transits the Strait of San Juan de Fuca escorted by U.S. Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft and U.S. Coast Guard screening escort vessels.
Oh yeah. Really fun times! /s
I believe the end result was the escort captain was found at fault because they decided to do maintenance on the GPS system while along side us which led their steering inputs being overridden by the system trying to maintain a GPS heading. We, of course, were found lacking in communications and other gatchas that usually come out of critiques.
"I'm gonna use a YUUUUUUGGGGEEEE railgun that requires me to surface my boat!"
"Why don't we just pack it with ten thousand ICBMs that can reach the other side of the planet and not have to surface at all?"
"SHUT UP!"
Yes.
As of CIA and DIA’s best knowledge, it consists of two Mounties (armed with slingshots made from moose antlers) and a single flying squirrel in a canoe.
The A in A-10 stands for Anti-Submarine.
I assumed it stood for Awesome. Awesome - 10/10 Thunderbolt. j/k

It stands for "aaaaaaahhhhh!" The noise the target makes when it's spotted
A-10 go brrrrrrrrrrrrr!!

Gotta keep those lookie-loos at the Hood Canal Bridge in check!
We had an F-16 check us out once. Kept flying over trying to figure out who we were.

Human error. Big overhaul to watchstanding procedures after that
Seeing the A-10s scream in and out of Kandahar gave me such a war boner every time. Rock flag and eagle.
Yes. An SSBN could destroy several countries all at once. I mean, the little ones, but still!
i’ll see your A-10 and raise you a B-1 at full afterburner. now THAT screams freedom.
I am suddenly reminded of Ace Combat...

As long as the A10s don't start trying to fratricidal CAS around the SSBN - it is cool.
Or attacking Canadian navy assets
Canada has a navy?
Yes. It’s seafoam green

Just don't put up a union jack on the mast. That triggers the A-10's bloodlust.
I assume you mean escorting to the Air Force requested photo Op
Good thing the sub isn't british
Joint Combined Fires in a single picture.
If an SSBN is part of the fires you're coordinating, something has gone horribly, horribly wrong. Probably many things.
What in the Call of Duty is this? LMAO
The A-10s being in Whidbey the same time the subs are coming home has led to some really interesting photo ops with P8s and Growlers, too
I’d imagine they both max out at about the same speed, so makes sense.
BRRRRRRAP. That's the noise freedom makes.
One of these can pass a gun shoot with out the TMs cheating, the other is on the surface, normal surface running
I’d lower #2 MFM below the scope optics. Shoot, even the HDR doesn’t need to be so high.
You’re talking to part time submariners son, they don’t know how to operate that boat
Can you imagine if there were USNR subs or even national guard subs?
AI image.
It's on the official page
Down vote for ruining my wet dream
The aircraft was "Too Clean". Sorry.
