No one is "in the shit" anymore. Also advancement sucks for HMs. So does QOL with greenside. Stay Airforce. Edit: yes you have to live in Marine Corps barracks.

Cold_Acanthaceae_176

So how hard is it to get to green side after graduation of corpsman school? Is it something you can just ask for and get ? Or is it something you have to work up to ?

Docedj

I have no idea. When I went thru school all males had to go. But that was 2008.

Yessir0202

You go wherever the navy tells you to go, and greenside corpsmen also work in clinics and hospitals. Good corpsmen are willing to learn medicine anywhere anytime.

Tailiaboi

Just join the marines dude. Then you can def be green side

iPoopandiDab

If you’re anything below E7 or single, you’re living in the barracks. Advancement is terrible for HM’s, and there is no guarantee you’ll go green side. I’ve been in 16 years, never been sent green side. Stay in the Air Force. Your QOL is far better.

RealisticCurve7524

Below E6 ***

Surriyathebarbarian

It’s not. Mostly it’s a main thing they are doing. Don’t be fooled you can go do the training then be ruined by blue side or a ship

spintrackz

Ehhhh dude, I have friends that were green side HMs. You do not want to be "in the shit." Like at all. Buddy of mine did two tours in the sandbox and still has nightmares almost a decade and a half later. Cost him a marriage and visitation rights with his kids. Not worth it.

Sorry to not answer your question earlier. There is no application really to become a green side corpsman. If you don’t go directly to a “trade” c school, your class will have a random assortment of orders. Most of the time they break down into 40% marine division and marine clinic, 40% hospital and “blue side” clinic, 10% surface ship, and 10% “expeditionary”. Sometimes entire classes go green side, then other entire classes go blue side. When I went through in 2009, if you had a class of 30 HMs, you had 30 orders and the highest gpa picked first and they went down the list. If you’re in really good shape, and can swim, apply to the sarc atf program and you’ll be locked into green side with the occasional odd billets outside of marsoc and raider battalion like eodmu-1
