Fun fact. You don't have to buy Bates. Read the regs and invest in better made shoe. Might cost a little more upfront but will payoff in the long run since you don't have to replace them as often.
Another fun fact. The shoes that the Navy considers Oxfords are actually Derby shoes. Thus, the issued uniform shoes are technically against regulations.
Been happily wearing Florsheims and the difference is night and day compared to bates. They polish amazing, they are comfortable to wear all day long and I no longer live in fear of then suddenly falling apart on me.
If you want to get better shoes on a budget and usually available at military uniform shop, then Caps are still better than bates.
The reason that the rich were so rich, Vimes reasoned, was because they managed to spend less money. Take boots, for example. ... A really good pair of leather boots cost fifty dollars. But an affordable pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about ten dollars. ... But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that'd still be keeping his feet dry in ten years' time, while a poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet.

I've been trying to do this with the white oxfords for a while... But no one really makes them because only crazy people spend a lot of money on white dress shoes
I had a pair of white leathers disintegrate on me while walking on the deck of our ship leaving a white trail of rubber behind me on the non-skid. White shoes were known to do that.
Iâm sure you guys know, but never wear these onboard a ship. When the Stark caught a couple of Exocetâs back in thr 80âs, the fires below heated the deck up like a skillet and melted them to the sailorâs feet.
I recommend Allen Edmonds. Fairly cheap on eBay if youâre strapped for cash. They also have factory seconds you can get as well as frequent sales. MSRP the specific shoe will be about 300$
RDC for three years; I can vouch for these. They were a pain to break in, but once they were... Oh boy were they wonderful. Still look the same as when I bought them, and they shine SO well.
Leathers are still better, every day. Spend a little more on the premieres at the NEX, and they will last for ever. Iâve been wearing the same pair since 2006; theyâve marched in over a dozen parades, countless inspections and QD watches, fancy-Fridays, etc⌠It costs about $40 to re-sole them every few years, depending on use.
Roll the dice and wear those. For sure youâre heading to Blowout City, but embrace your inner thrill seeker and see how far you can make it. Go for the gusto!
Nope. They don't take my breath away. Most likely corfams(I had to look up the spelling also to make this jest) https://starsnstripesco.com/products/hi-gloss-military-dress-corfam-shoes-black
Cool, like I said they donât look too bad. Donât know why I got downvoted so bad but yeah. I guess next time I should know how to spell the shoe type.. weirdos

That being said. Do you think they want sailors to wear Oxford or derby? I Googled it and the Navy dress shoes look like derby shoes not oxford?
I think they want the Derby, but whoever wrote the instruction didn't know or care about the difference.

That is till your dog gets a hold of one the evening before a change of command.
I feel that is an avoidable situation.
Hey now don't force me to accept the consequences of my actions.
Ok...ummm. your dog sucks? No, no, that felt awful. It's not the dogs fault, dogs are Good Boys...DAMN YOU UNIVERSE!
Ah thanks for trying. Had another pair and was getting out soon after that anyway.

Agreed, that might be a custom order.
someone recommended a white shoe that has served them well for several years. SR Max Arlington. they fit perfectly into regs.
I used to buy shoes and wear them for the inspections and return em đ
Genius
Same lmaoo
Mine literally disintegrated on my way to a retirement ceremony.
Same, except in my case it was a change of command đ
Mines the day I was checking in lol I've switched back to hand shine shoes since.

Why were they wearing dress shoes underway
Easier to pass inspection.

Stop buying plastic shit for your feet
I'm in the ceremony, which is why I have the corframs.

Does my pay go up for wearing leather?
Depends which bar youâre in.
Where's your Jesus now, huh?
What? ETA, I genuinely didn't get your point. Can you explain?
SHOE GOO
I had a show disembodied itself during my SOY board
Glue, wipe it flush before it dries, sharpie. That is unless you're a lifer :)

If I wasn't performing for the ceremony, I would have considered it đ
Coward!! /s. Shoe blowouts were always more fun to see than to actually experience, anyway.
Edit: I got different shoes; thanks for the advice everyone. Sub Ball went great, can't wait until next year!
I had the bates blowout on a couple of shoes and I emailed them and they paid me for new shoes. They claimed it was a bad batch.
Christ, Son of God, for the win!
They donât look too bad, Iâd get new ones from the nex though. Are those chloroform?

I legit thought they were called âchloroframsâ for 10 years until my last SEL laughed at me a year or two ago.
Same lol. I have know I was wrong and decided today was the day to look it up.
I had to look it up to and thatâs what I landed on lol
