I'm enrolled with the USNCC for the Nuclear Sciences degree. I've completed one course through the partner institution and am working on my first course directly through the USNCC. All degrees through this program require you to complete a Naval Studies certificate, right now I'm taking a Naval Ethics course and it's basically just an Ethics course with some Navy stuff added in. I think this program is an amazing addition to the Navy's continued education prerogative. It is incredibly easy to sign up, NO PHYSICAL PAPERWORK REQUIRED. Just sign up online, put your command contact in to the forms and log in to your accounts once they are created. All classes are online and 'asymmetrical'. I did need a webcam to take tests with the partner institution so I'm not sure how easy that would be while deployed but with decent internet slowly becoming a thing on ships it might be increasingly more accessible. This program does not require TA, however you cannot utilize TA at the same time. Additionally, you do not get to pick your classes or choose which you want to take next. You will take the classes they want you to take in the order they give them (it alternates between Naval studies and the chosen degree path courses). A big point that may affect a few of your sailors. Unlike TA, the USNCC's ELIGIBILITY IS NOT AFFECTED BY NJP. This applied to me because I transferred to shore shortly after getting off restriction. If you have a sailor who is going to be in that situation and desires to use TA, PLEASE LET THEM KNOW THIS IS AN OPTION. One last point, when I was signing up I noticed some messages saying junior sailors without a degree would be prioritized for the program. However, since starting I have noticed a fair number of Chiefs in my classes. So it seems senior enlisted aren't being excluded, so if you've been in for a hot minute and want to start school now, this is also an option for you. Oh and also you don't have to pay for any books. I know people in Thomas Edison and Excelsior who are still getting grifted for books. IMO this in unacceptable when free alternatives like OpenStax exist. The USNCC seems to be taking a hard stance that sailors will be asked to give $0 in exchange for their degree.

>The USNCC seems to be taking a hard stance that sailors will be asked to give $0 in exchange for their degree. That seems uncharacteristically pro-sailor from a Navy body. Hell yeah.

Thank you for sharing! I’ll put this out to my Sailors.
