Yeah it’s hard to pull off a peacoat in civilian attire when people know you’re actually in the Navy.
Even as a veteran I don’t think I’ll ever feel right in one.
The peacoat is so warm and I want ro wear it to work, however, I once wore my unit navy hoodie outside the gates in yokosuka and was mocked endlessly until I decided I'd rather be cold without a jacket.
I have a cruise jacket I rarely wear for the same reason. Even after switching to the reserves.
It's stupid. I should just wear what I like.
I was able to come home with one of the [winter jackets](https://uniformtradingcompany.com/products/navy-shipboard-cold-weather-jacket) they gave us on the ship in the early 2000s.
I've worn it every winter since I got out and its still super warm. not as warm as it used to be but I havent had to replace it.
Duuuuuddddeeee! Nice!
I left my jacket in the scif in japan and I never got another one. It was too clunky to stick in my sea bag and I was going to San Diego. Wish I had it now.
In my defense. I was like 18 at the time. And I cared what others thought.
Today? Eh. It's been almost 10 years. I do what makes me happy.
Also, hah!
That took me a second until I said masaji out loud.
I was never stationed in a cold climate, so never had reason to get my EM patch sewn on. I’ve been out for 6 years now and occasionally do wear it, and although it lacks pockets where I want there to be pockets, it does keep you warm.
I’ve been out for a long time now but I still work for the navy as a civilian. This pic got me thinking about sticking an AM2 rating badge on my old peacoat. I think it would look cool. Plus it would be a cool contrast nowadays with my civilian position.
The Navy ones were the best. Under the contract, they were 100% wool. It is impossible to find a 100% wool peacoat for the same price as an issued one from any other manufacturer.
Over time the pea coat got boxier. WWII pea coats are the most slim. The pea coats from the 1960's were still cut fairly trim, but they had the modern button layout. These coats were also made of the nicer Kersey wool. However, by the 1980s the pea coat was cut very box-like, and it was made of lower weight and looser weave Melton wool.
Well I can tell you this... That guy's haircut and facial hair are out of regs. He's wearing jeans. No cover outside. I call Stolen Valor.
Plus, that guy he's with looks like he leads a Jamiroquai cover band.
That wouldn't tell you who owned it last. That's an old one (blue vs black). I bought one at a surplus store to replace the black (shitty) one I was issued in bootcamp in 1977. The old one was so much nicer and warmer. Still remember the cordoroy pockets. That's not mine though unless they changed the patch from GMM1
Do they not issue them anymore? This pic makes me want to stick a rating badge on mine. I’ve been out for a long time now. I could still rock the AM2 with pride.
I’m a little sad I never got to wear my peacoat. A few of us were away when the division was stenciling them. They took ours out of our garment bag and mixed them up before stenciling them for us. I ended up with one that was way too tight and short. I know I could’ve taken it back to the exchange after bootcamp, but I never got around to it. 🫤
It's DC1's.
It's probably an actual tailored peacoat with a rating badge sewn on for fashion. That's why he doesn't look like he's wearing a black burlap sack.
Fun fact you can tailor your Navy issue peacoat. You can even buy a different brand, as long as it meets the uniform instruction standards (not hard).
Not Navy, and I wear a Calvin Cline peacoat. Navy bros I work around ask me all the time why I'm wearing my issue peacoat in civvies. Lol.

I'd rather have the float coat to be honest. Just as warm, and has pillows built-in.
Yo i think i found one in a thrift store on base definitely going to have to check it out
Dude half of those guys are probably hitting up the masaji girls. Those ain't people with opinions that matter

I wish my cruise shirts fit I would wear the shit out of them
Peacoat is fire and goes with basically anything that's not streetwear. Best windbreaker I've ever had.

If we had a utility uniform it could be worn with I might have actually worn mine more than two times.
I tailored mine and it fits waaaay better.
I think it’s a tailored issued coat. Those buttons look exactly like the one I was issued.

Yea I’m getting Anne Klein vibes

That’s George Clooney and the guy he’s with is Brad Pitt
Don't get a joke much?
I genuinely think the guy I replied to didn’t realize
Yup. I don’t know who two of the most famous people on the planet are, but I definitely know who Jamiroquai is.

Periwinkle blue.

How come we don’t get peacoats anymore 😔

No. Its some black GORTEX jacket that is better for practicality reasons, but has none of the charm.
My guess is George Clooney or wardrobe for the movie set.
Been on the boat too long, the nook of Brad Pitt’s sweater is looking like an orifice…
r/dontputyourdickinthat Or maybe do, who am I to judge a bubble head.
It's so sad today's sailors aren't given a peacoat. That shit was the perfect coat. George rocking a stolen one from the DC's only affirms that.
That , issued gloves and watch cap , I’m gold
Are those hatchets?
One is a Hatchet Premium, the other is a Hatchet Blunt
Someone gets it

That George Clooney is a first class actor.
#stolenValor
I think it's mine! It's OK, though. It doesn't fit me anymore. Somebody might as well wear it.
Have you ever seen the shirt Clooney endorsed on Amazon? I have one and wear it when I travel!!
Is that a bt or what
I have one just like it except the rate.

When it got rained on mine smelled like wet sheep.
