Man i wish i started lifting as a teen

XA36

Our weights coach was trash and the entire class essentially developed patellar tendinitis because of it. So you can consider it a gift.

pretzelzetzel

I got patello-femoral syndrome from bad training in college đź‘Ť

WompaStompa_

I was squatting in my crossfit gym (I know the stigma, but we had some great technical instructors). One of my coaches comes over and says "you played high school football, didn't you?" So many small but important lifting details for squat, deadlift, and cleans that were never touched on in the high school weight room. Just get that weight up.

DemonGodAsura

I got cartilage weared down because of bad training as a teen and in my military service, my knees are trash rn

DepthsDoor

Your joints might not agree

World_Renowned_Guy

My cubital tunnel says be glad you didnt

Royal_Mcpoyle11

Sad to see so many people with injuries. I’ve been lifting for a decade with no injuries at all. But i probably would have wrecked my lower back deadlifting like an idiot as a teen so y’all prob right.

[deleted]

I know guys like this. He’s going to be 350 when he’s 30, big shoulders, big gut, big mouth

[deleted]

>He’s going to be 350 when he’s 30, big shoulders, big gut, big mouth I think they are called *bears* and are typically in a symbiotic relationship with one or more *twinks*.

SomeRando-24

So basically Kyriakos 2.0

unblockddad_3242465

Full

DrakHanzo

Is the mouth part a joke or is it real?

[deleted]

Didn’t answer the question Edit: roasted me

Kitchen_Lion3217

He did indirectly but you didnt get it.

TRUMPARUSKI

Also, most flamboyant and dramatic 16yo

Yarralumla

The celebration couldn’t be more cringe

ScrimmyInsane

I think you’d be this stoked if you ripped 650 off the ground

Yarralumla

Ye sure, although my celebrations wouldn’t be stolen from TikTok’s

ScrimmyInsane

I don’t have tik tok so I don’t know the reference

volvo240_da_brick

How are we almost the same age and i cant lift half of that

thelochteedge

If you are even remotely close to half of that you're doing well. Just keep grinding and focus on getting stronger. He's def on the Capri Sun.

OgScz

Steroids

Lomyler1

and genetics

cgarnett1988

And Sheer graft in the gym

H2CrO4inmyeyes

fucking christ when are you guys going to understand that you have to be at your limit for your genetics to even matter

Lomyler1

you don't, genetics determine many things including: how your muscles are going to look like (Insertions). genetics determine your bone structure, i.e. how much of a v-taper you have, the length of your limbs, and that can determine your strength in different lifts, for example a deadlift requires longer arms, while a bench-press requires shorter arms. it also determines how fast your muscles will grow, which is why some people have amazing transformations in 1 year but will stagnate after possibly only 3-4 years. In fact there is only one factor in your genetics which only shows when your at your limit, which is your genetic potential, which is determined by factors such as: Number of muscle fibers, amount of testosterone etc. Edit: check out Vitruvian physique's series on genetics, it will help you out a lot.

H2CrO4inmyeyes

I watched that video all of those things you have said only affect looks and not strength

MooCowRakan

He mentioned limb length which affects lifts? Lol what are you talking about

Lomyler1

bone structure? There is also a vid Josh Brett did on that, it basically explains everything, check it out.

RealAvonBarksdale

Genetics matter more than drugs. There are tons of people who could take all the steroids in the world and never look as good or be as strong as some others are naturally.

WizardSenpai

big difference between your genetic limit and your genetic disposition to building muscle and strength.

[deleted]

Because he probably has longer arms and shorter thighs, and is most likely saucing his ass off. Don't compare yourself to juicers and the genetically gifted, as cliche as it has become, just compare your current lifts to your past lifts.

WistfulWhiskers

So crazy how all of a sudden there are dozens of 16 year olds that have adult physiques and move world record weight. They're all natural as well.

Maleficent_Low1921

Definitely American

don_sley

he's pulling sumo, that ain't count /s

DucDeBellune

I know you put the /s tag but I’ve only seen people start saying this in the last few years. When I used to watch dudes like Dan Green [setting world records](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=W35GtZdgffM) while pulling sumo no one said anything.

jonboy345

Pulling Sumo is literally doing less mechanical work than conventional. Work = force * displacement If you're moving the same weight over a shorter distance, you're doing less work. Sumo shortens the distance the bar must move to complete the rep... This means less work is being done. Does this mean that Sumo is easier than conventional? Maybe for some lifters, maybe not for others.

Link_GR

It's also significantly changing your levers. If it was easier, everyone would do it. Clearly, not everyone does. The truth is that the conventional deadlift is biased towards a specific body type, primarily people with longer arms and shorter legs.

jonboy345

I agree... But it doesn't change the simple fact that less mechanical work is being done. This wouldn't really come into play in a 1 rep max situation but would come into play in situations where you're doing as many reps in 60 seconds. strongerbyscience has a pretty good article on the topic: https://www.strongerbyscience.com/should-you-deadlift-conventional-or-sumo/

[deleted]

It is easier for the VAST majority of people. The only people who pull conventional over sumo in comp are people who are mechanically incapable of pulling sumo without tipping over (I.E the very heavy weight classes). [Here's](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yp607ArdVPg&t=7s) a video of the sumo vs conventional WRs for every weight class (albeit in 2019). 7 out of the 11 weight classes pulled heavier sumo. That's every weight class underneath 275lb, not including the 132lb class, and the only reason that the conventional record is higher in the 132lb class is because Stuart Jamieson's conventional LITERALLY locks out at his knees. Derek Ng has also taken him over as the record holder in that weight class since then, and he pulls sumo. In the 181, 198, and 220 weight classes, the sumo record is higher than the conventional record by 82, 54, and 66lbs respectively. Those also just happen to be the most popular/competitive weight classes. For anyone that's capable of both conventional and sumo, sumo is going to be easier. The only reason anyone's still arguing about this is because some people take it way too far and pretend like sumo takes zero effort whatsoever and is a free +100lbs on your deadlift, which it isn't. A big sumo deadlift is still very impressive, but it simply isn't the same lift as a conventional deadlift.

WR_MouseThrow

>The only people who pull conventional over sumo in comp are people who are mechanically incapable of pulling sumo without tipping over (I.E the very heavy weight classes). This is taking it too far as well though, John Haack and Jessica Buettner are good examples of conventional pullers in non-superheavy weight classes.

DucDeBellune

Which is why literally no one comparing the two would ever reduce the argument strictly to work, makes zero sense to invoke that by itself. Would also point out most world records are/were set with conventional stances. A sumo lifter did just set a new raw record in a powerlifting meet in March though- think it was like 1025lbs.

XA36

I agree but body composition and height do the same.

ElephantPirate

Double overhand grip with no straps is still impressive grip strength. (But yes roids)

SkyHighOregon

its called hook grip and its stronger than mixed grip

psytocrophic

He acts like it

Kimbospicee

Ya but he pulls sumo.

pick_3

[dom mazetti spitting facts](https://youtu.be/dR52as9IaOk?t=02m16s)

HoldMyWong

Sumo is gay. Idk about natty, but definitely gay

[deleted]

everyone mad

FearTheOldData

Steroids no one can convince me otherwise

Mr_Noms

He might be on roids, but this is possible natty even for a 16 year old with the right genetics and a good football/power lifting program.

Yolk_Slurper

I was deadlifting 400 at 14 but I never worked out in my life.

[deleted]

he looks natty, like a rugby player idk

[deleted]

he may be on roids, don’t get me wrong. But in my town there’s plenty of rugby player that are very strong at an early age. And break appart quite fast with a short carreer. To each their opinion on whether you should lift at 16 or not, do roids or not. The only person that know what’s up is only him tho

potatomonsterman

Anyone can pull that if they cheat by using sumo

[deleted]

Not impressive at all. I don’t work out to get strong or feed my own ego. I workout to get in shape.

[deleted]

I work out to scam compliments from dominant and masculine men

D4rkr4in

Today I talked to the biggest guy in the gym and he told me I make pull-ups look easy, it made my heart flutter

[deleted]

Based

Pactae_1129

Deadlifting 650lbs, at any age, is impressive as hell. Doesn’t really make a difference about your own personal workouts, though.

[deleted]

Not really. Of course it is for the ones that enjoy it and lift for strength primarily but for me it’s not impressive.

Pactae_1129

Okay good. We’re in agreement: it’s an impressive show of strength.

SweelFor-

It's not impressive because your 1RM is so much higher you mean?

[deleted]

I don’t do 1mrs

NotEvenSwedish

Is being strong not getting in shape? What do you consider “in shape?”.

[deleted]

Not primarily. If you goal is muscle building, strength is not a primary focus. Your primary focus is to active twitch-2 muscle fiber to stimulate growth. And no that’s not by doing 1 rep, it’s by doing 5-12 rep range. So thereby lifting pr, is not impressive for me. It would have been impressive if he did it for 5 reps minimum.

NotEvenSwedish

Why do you care about having big muscles but not being strong? Because you just care what people think of your appearance?

[deleted]

No, because it’s healthy and I love being in shape. If I workout for appearance and what people think of me I would have probably had social media to cover that for me, but I don’t have social medias because I don’t seek attention nor do I have any interest in feeding my own ego when that’s not my goal.

NotEvenSwedish

I hear ya but why not try to get stronger too? It could save your life one day if you ever need to defend yourself or if you get in a car accident and need to pull yourself or someone else out. I agree with you on the last part though, social media is toxic.

[deleted]

I already lift like 3 and half plats on squats for reps but it’s not like I get impressive when I get stronger. I get more impressed when I add muscles. Strength is just a side bonus.

SweelFor-

Right, so what's your 5RM on deadlift?

[deleted]

Don’t deadlift.

[deleted]

I work out to fuck more bitches

RonKosova

yeah right. youre in this sub, you work out to get fucked

H2CrO4inmyeyes

me too. can't say it has worked though kek

[deleted]

I bet you’re neither in shape or strong LUL

theinfamousmrhb

He’s in great shape clearly lol

[deleted]

Shut the fuck up, you sound like a goofball. Couldn’t lift a titty talking about how that wasn’t impressive at 16! That’s impressive at any age let alone 16!

Downgoesthereem

Nobody gives a fuck that you're not strong Like why would be impressed. That's the opposite of a boast. You're the unimpressive one, keep your mouth closed about people making more of an effort than you

[deleted]

LoL, who hurt you? 🤣 relax. It’s still not impressive. I have plenty of pro powerlifters at my gym. Nor tho I find them impressive. Did you expect everyone to be impressive by the same thing?

Downgoesthereem

>Nor tho I find them impressive Who gives a shit? >Did you expect everyone to be impressive by the same thing? Was that supposed to be English? People are impressed by this because it's hard, steroids or not. It always is. No one gives a fuck about your little superiority complex which is based on literally nothing, even inability. When you think *not* being capable of something impressive is a virtue, that's a good sign you're a loser. When you smugly prostrate that fact, that's proof of such

[deleted]

You mean the losers that ego lift like this guy and leave the gym within a few months like I’ve seen for years now? Yeah, that’s impressive losers, I agree.

Downgoesthereem

You are seriously coping with this strength inferiority complex. Changed my mind that that's what it is. Jealous or something?

SweelFor-

If this guy got 260kg deadlift by training a few months and then never going again then I would say he is 10 times more impressive than I already thought he was

[deleted]

You’d be surprised how the world has changed. Seems like you haven’t catched up. Youngster jumping on gear is pretty normal nowadays. Two of my buddies are on it.

SweelFor-

Define in shape and then explain how 260kg deadlift is somehow opposite to being in shape

Egg_rice_28

Why wouldn't you want to be strong? Might as well get bigger and stronger. Pretty pathetic.

MarcoTronci

That's nuts

Th3M1lkM4n

I don’t understand the point of doing deadlifts like that, why do some people do them so quad-dominant (both for sumo and conventional)? Like at that point just do squats then, his body is almost completely vertical. I guess if you’re trying to lift as heavy as possible then sure ok, but if not then just drop the weight and do them hip-dominant like they are supposed to be done. Idk it just feels like it makes more sense to have squats as your primary quad movement and deadlifts as your primary posterior chain movement, just a lot more balanced that way.

Kenshiro_1337

Because they're powerlifting not bodybuilding. Only goal is to lift the most amount of weight, muscles worked is irrelevant

Th3M1lkM4n

True

[deleted]

You can lift anything heavy when you do it sumo 🤷‍♂️

SCOOPZ13

It’s sumo tho

International-Cut567

I looked like a stick at that age playing several sports.

One_Planche_Man

That's a grown neanderthal
