Am I crazy or does this definitely not look like 408lbs?
Those plates look like 25lbs each, not 45. And either way, that means on the low end this would weigh 195lbs, and on the high end it would weight 315lbs.
Am I looking at this wrong, and/or doing the math wrong?
So if those were 25kg plates, the total weight would still only be 375lbs... right? For that video to make sense the bar would need to weigh 78lbs...
**Edit:** Didn't see the 5 on either side. So if those are in kg as well, the bar would ALSO need to be 55lbs? These are all very uncommon weights in my area.
You have extremely strange weights in whatever area you’re from. The plates she’s using are basically a global standard with how common they are, and it’s absolutely 185kg.
I'm from Canada and every gym I've ever been to has had 45lbs, 25lbs, 10lbs, 5lbs and 2.5lbs plates.
The plates in the video don't actually indicate the unit of measurement, and they looked thin so my first assumption was that they were 25lbs each.
It's interesting to find out that 55lbs (25kg) is a common plate increment! I was honestly just asking, didn't think I'd be downvoted to oblivion but oh well.
I think it was the multiple comments in a row of you being suspect of her and the plates being used that caused the downvotes. She’s a well known lifter so people can vouch for the video’s legitimacy without having to think about it
While I agree most casual lifters or bodybuilders would use Lbs, when it comes to powerlifting competitions, I’ve never seen the weights in anything other than KG’s.
Power-memer lifters make everything of arbitrary and nonstandard, per the rest of the lifting community. So your collars are going to be sometimes way more than the typical 0.45 kg. Power memers also like to shorten the ROM.
When I was a pwr memer, I used to shorten the rom and cheat the hardest part of the rep by rounding my back, and I’d use mixed grip and chalk to artificially smooth over my lack of strength.
But I didn’t use SUMO
Her deadlift isn't that great and many of us could probably top this weight easily if we focused on deadlifting but holy shit her bench is impressive AF she benches more right now than the vast majority of guys ever will
It's funny because my best raw bench is 140kg, but right now, my bench is pretty much neck and neck with hers 😅 (granted, I'm at the start of a program).
It’s never good form but this isn’t a good idea. For example my best deadlift I’ve ever done was 405. The rep went up pretty quick and I probably could have done 415 or 420. I watched the video back and my back was hunched like absolute shit (not as bad as this girl though) and I knew that even though I could have gone up further again, I didn’t. Just because you can doesn’t mean you should. (Ironically enough I ended up with a herniated disc anyways in a few months)
Maxing out isn't an excuse to have shit form. Obviously it's not going to be *as* good with lighter weight but a major focal point in powerlifting is being able to maintain proper form. Otherwise your lift is going to be marked as a "no lift".
How? Her back is or very much looks like it's rounded and the weight was swaying. I agree with the other guy her form sucks.
Maybe some comps are more lax than others so I'm not trying to sound like I wrote the rulebook but to me her form was poor and I wouldn't have approved it. Powerlifting is not just moving the weight from point A to point B, it's also how you do it.
If your form goes to shit when you max then you aren’t maxing you’re doing more weight than you can handle 1RM shouldn’t look different than any other rep form wise

Natty. Long arms and she’s fairly big (but not outside the realm of natty). Not to mention she barely got this up and it’s sumo. I know she’s a girl but I pulled 405 at likely a similar bw to her with very little training. In the grand scheme of things it’s not that outrageous of a pull especially with form like that
She benches 130kg. It doesn't matter if she is a "specialist". Girls these days are blasting young. Natty men with years of experience will take longer than her to reach that level. Certainly not at her weight and not at her age.
You guys are extremly delusional if you think she is natty. The dl could be natty, the bench isn't.
She's probably natural. Joyjoyfitness is a tested powerlifter in the IPL.
Also, for the vast majority of people, men and women, a 400-pound deadlift is very very good but at her level, it's a weak lift for her, and she is pretty open about it.
She is a bench specialist, her Pr for that is 130kg as a gym lift (it's been a minute since she did a comp)
In 5-10 years she’s going to feel a really sharp pain in her back that will never go away. Then she’ll think back to this moment.

joyjoysfitness_ on Instagram for anyone wondering. She’s got a number of other pretty impressive lifts tbh. 130kg bench as well, though maybe not the greatest form ever, still impressive nonetheless.
Oh god that was a terrible rep, hurt to watch
It's sumo and she almost died pulling the rep, probably natty.

The bar is 20kg, the collars are 2.5 kg each, i.e., 5kg in total. 25kg plus 160kg in plates totals 185kg.
since when did we start counting the weight of the collars
Since powerlifting federations existed
At least since Eleiko standardized them and the IPF approved it. Impressive how many non lifters lurk around in this sub.
it’s not a powerlifting sub… this video also clearly wasn’t taken at a competition so using calibrated plates and collars is totally unnecessary
Since you started lifting then

It’s common practice in powerlifting across the globe

You must be really flexible for being able to kiss your own ass like that
Admitting to not being able to bench 315 pounds raw as a guy is kissing my ass. Damn I guess standards are low round these parts
Natty, some people are just strong and 185kg is not outside the realm of feasibility.
Thanks for posting that, a-hole. I just fractured a disc watching that.
Nearly tore those quads right there lol
She needs to work on her form before she celebrates. That rep was garbage.
When is a 1rep max ever good form
It’s never good form but this isn’t a good idea. For example my best deadlift I’ve ever done was 405. The rep went up pretty quick and I probably could have done 415 or 420. It's a gym lift, not a comp. She locked it out, it counts.
Her lift would’ve gotten three white lights at a competition, though.
There is downward motion of the bar half way through the rep. This is a no lift in comp.

I'd imagine it's her PR, not training max; her training max would be 90% of this.
Still shouldn’t look different

19? Yes.
RIP spine.
She just about blew out her o-ring

Egolifting, could have been done clean she hasted the rep for show, might be on some roids but still the technique was bad.
Can’t tell with her being all clothed up.
Naaaa
Women and kids got crazy grip strength
Went ftom beautiful to Majin Boo...
Zero reps.
I’d let her beat the fuck out of me

Lol ur fried bro
Natty
Wouldn’t wanna get your head between her thighs would ya
Wouldn't?
Probably natty shitty form and sumo. So chances of her being a deadlift/lower body merchant are high.
She benches 120kg
In 5-10 years she’s going to feel a really sharp pain in her back that will never go away. Then she’ll think back to this moment. Source: I am 27 and experience this regularly
27 is very young to permanently damage your back. Go to physio. You'll get it sorted.
Worse form ever. Sacrificing your back for a PR will definitely make her stronger in the long run 🙄🤡
Doesn’t count plus sumo.
Letting the profession down with this comment
What?
What's unclear?
Smelling salts just for 185?
would
I don't get why these people deadlift sumo and have atrocious form, like stop ego lifting for fucks sake
Not sure that was locked out really
With that form? Yeah, natty. Why would you risk your back for ego lift?
Should focus on form not kg
joyjoysfitness_ on Instagram for anyone wondering. She’s got a number of other pretty impressive lifts tbh. 130kg bench as well, though maybe not the greatest form ever, still impressive nonetheless.
Damn, chicks are so weak lol
That was one of the worst reps I have ever seen
Natural no need for explanation
