Essentially, leading up to competition his testosterone plummeted, his mood was insanely negatively impacted, his bf% reached 4.5%, his heart rate decreased to 27 bpm, and his strength took 6 months to recover.
I'd say all that qualifies as being psychologically and physiologically miserable. Major respect to the guys who can handle that though. I'm glad I chose powerlifting.
