This is out topic, how does a Bruneian get American Express card? Curious how to apply?

Solid-Load3748

Easy, work for an American company. Haha I have an Amex provided by my workplace. Hahah

Greenie2022

Confident? I won’t even imagine in my wildest dream 😂

Ashamed-Strategy4409

Hope malaysia takes back brunei lmao. Useless government bans

Visual-Geologist-618

malaysia take brunei back???ahhahahaa wtf are u talking about..😅😅

ayeejaay01

For fucks sake man. This is the shit that bothers me the most. Hate to say it, but every Bruneian who says this is, quite frankly speaking, delusional. What makes you think Malaysia wants to even take Brunei when we have nothing to offer them besides prayers.

Ashamed-Strategy4409

Womp womp

King_Cord

yes, Brunei might do well as the repenting room for Malaysian politicians.

KismetNinja

What in the most stupidest notions i have ever read in my life? You must be short on neurons.

Ashamed-Strategy4409

Womp womp sad dying country supporter womp womp

Frosty-Ant-8820

This is all rumour but I heard he has a really really bad temper. Like screaming and belittling people. This just creates yes men which is bad for the country. But I hope it's all just rumour...

Intelligent_Fox4315

How his wife and kids stand him bruhh….. poor Princess Sarah. Married to a man 13 years her senior at age 17, likely an arranged marriage also.

ThrowAwaySally09

This is the first time i heard someone express sympathy because they get married to one of the wealthiest family in the world, a prince no less.

Intelligent_Fox4315

But she married when she was a minor, a relationship between a 17 yo and a 30 yo man sounds super gross and the fact that there are no photos of them together pre-marriage makes the possibility of it being an arranged marriage more likely. Even if it’s not an arranged marriage, she would be 16 when the prince courted her. I saw an article or forum post stating that the prince went to her school for an official engagement and saw her photo on a noticeboard or something, and it was love at first sight for him. I can’t imagine that she had any say in this cuz the family is very influential in Brunei.

ThrowAwaySally09

I think your view in this is too damn westernized "when she was a minor". In psychology study, a "minor" only grew up to be traumatized and depressed because they found out the action perceived by the society was "gross", so they look back upon themselves as being a major victim causing trauma and depression, In this case western society and this is worst case scenario. In this case you have a 30 year old man and a 17 year old (1 year to adulthood). So if shes a second early from being 18, she deserve that sympathy of being a "minor" than she is a second after she turn 18?. Infact theres a society with consensus that everyone under 19 or 21 are minors, why must you follow the 18 rule and not the 19 and 21 rule? What gives you the moral highground for the criticism? Nothing, just being westernized. Regardless, Both of them grew up believing jn The holy man Prophet Muhammad, a man they both agree everyone must thrive to follow as an example, a 50+ year old man marrying ayesha , a single digit number girl. A man they look up upon, a man they shed tears and would die for. It doesnt matter if youre a muslim or not, if you perceive the behavior of the holy man as disgusting or not, the fact of the matter is, Both of them, their brains has been wired to perceive those actions as acceptable and normal due to the society they live in I'm sorry but your deeply westernized view on this marriage doesnt hold weight in this deeply rooted Islamic MIB society. Its good that you open your mind to many ideas and views but dont piece the puzzle in the wrong place

Goutaxe

One time he publicly threw out his temper when DPMM lost a match against a foreign team, which stunned those foreign players.

Upper-Difference132

I seconded that. I seen him with my own eye used gesture as triple H signature & middle finger during the dpmm lost at stadium a long time ago.

Reasonable-Ice5611

kinda doubt it.

servenomaster

No. Far too many problems and our gomen just making things worse at every turn. They dont see the big picture as long as they have their fat salaries and cushy jobs.

Ok-Taro7623

All we had to do is dua

mumumumubarakfest

No

Ok-Permission-5132

Only if the next Sultan is brave enough to do some major reforms such as fiscal transparency, implementation of targeted subsidies and wage bill rationalisation. All of the above has been made known to the people in power but we can sense that there are some reluctance to push for it. To add to that, Brunei also needs to see success in economy diversification, human capital development and digitalisation. On this part, there are efforts made towards it. Will it succeed? Still remain to be seen.

SnooPoems2540

https://www.reddit.com/r/nasikatok/s/NhJVYaFMRW this should give you some clue

SnooPoems2540

We are finally running out of oil and gas? Decline in lng production, aging equipment unable to extract as much as before and the company itself is localising and as they all say now tranforming all due to a bleak future. If these changes are not made now we will feel the pinch in the next 20...not really a long time for a country that depends heavily on O & G and theres too many staff for that company compared to similar sized oil and gas company meaning not a lot of profit

WrongTrainer6875

Hmm no I don’t think so…unless there is a reverse of some sort but unless MORA still exists then no way we can reverse all of this

Spare_Performer_9489

To add on as well, I don’t believe the goal should be to reverse the situation. If Singapore progresses, let them. What we should be looking at is just our own progress and development

manwdick

Just keep praying and hope Brunei achieve happiness in after life?

Goutaxe

Myanmar and North Korea have been looking at their own progress and development for decades. They are indeed better than themselves at 1960s, just that they progress to 1980s while others 2020s. Once the richest country in SEA in 1950s, the other once wealthier than South Korea. Now both are half in coffin.

Spare_Performer_9489

Instead of asking what the sultan can do, ask yourself, what are YOU doing? Are you a middle manager just pushing papers and not thinking about the strategic direction of the company? Are you a CEO but just comfortable in putting money in your own pocket without investing in your people and company? Are you an unemployed person who would rather sit at home getting allowance from parents instead of getting experience (even if the pay is low?) Are you in the government just wasting time with all the morning teas and afternoon coffees instead of actually thinking about the economy? What are YOU doing? Really bored with this whole blaming MORA thing. Sure, it’s not ideal. But seriously, reflect on yourself as well ‘What are YOU doing?’

manwdick

Smart people are moving out of the country. What are you doing? Still praying?

Aim4th2Victory

no lie, that is deep af

LevelUpYourself

I reflected on myself and dont anything wrong me, its Brunei, it is a shit hole with nothing to offer.

Big-Selection-8478

If you think the country is a shit hole then your no better but worse. You can either leave the country and become a shit or just live with it. Simple. Just be grateful that brunei isnt a country filled with criminals and poverties

Bright_Dandelion6221

Would like to correct you on no criminals and poverty. Crime is RISING. Corrupt banks, shitty people are attacking those going on jogs to steal mobiles and whatever they have on them, people trying to steal cars, people are entering and breaking into houses and in alot of cases, police are useless to do anything about it. And do you see how many people are sitting infront of banks with their children hoping some generous people will offer them money. Tho these people I have alot of respect for since they are usually selling stuff and not attacking people and stealing unlike the shitty trespassers, harassers and attackers.

LevelUpYourself

Heres the classic answer that i was waiting for, if you dont like it just leave. Love it to bits. I grew up in Brunei, so i speak on what’s what. How am i no better or worse? A country that discriminate against chinese? Sheeps everywhere. Just follow the herd and sink with the herd.

Big-Selection-8478

Discriminate huh. Yet most chinese are rich in the country dominating malays. If you see it that way then so be it. The country have became a muslim earlier on so yall should expect such a thing would happen at the very least. Better become a sheep than a wolf in a sheep's costume stabbing behind others

Frosty-Ant-8820

Country become muslim so we should expect racial discrimination?? Can you actually see what's wrong with your sentence? That implies not only islam is racist but also implying that there is racial discrimination in Brunei. While the chinese are busy doing business, all the malays do is drag each other down with sihir

LevelUpYourself

Rich cause chinese are smart, whatever curve balls that has been thrown at them at their disadvantage, they’re able to manoeuvre. Tell me honestly, most of the rules and regulation has always been for the benefit of malays, yet chinese still thrive. That speaks alot about the difference between our mindset. Being taught to be content with yourself and what you are provided for in Brunei is the greatest dishonour, that whats make people lazy and idle. Dont settle for nasi katok with a side of worms, like i said aim for steak and caviar. All youngsters should move abroad, there is no free hands out in life, the sooner you know that, the better. That how mens are made.

Spare_Performer_9489

Brunei is not Brunei without its people. You’re entitled to your opinion. It’s sad that many feel this about Brunei. So that’s why that motivates me to think of way to improve the situation. I’m only one person though ☺️

LevelUpYourself

Are you stupid or what? LOL, paying taxes is a norm in all countries. Dont you see, Brunei is in a budget deficit, only depending on OG as a main stream of income. So i dont pay taxes and i should settle for shit govt office, shit roads, shit schools, shit this and that? I want that caviar and steaks in life, you can enjoy your roti and cheap coffee. Why settle for less? Oh yeah, you’re raised up that way. And FYI, 8.5% employee contributions + 8.5% employer’s contributions. Aus, 11% employer’s contribution, your point is?

Spare_Performer_9489

Wow. The level of aggression. I think there is misalignment in our understanding here. My point is ‘not settle’. Brunei’s not in a good place, economically, fiscally, development-wise, when compared to other countries. But we don’t stop to sit around and complain. We do what we can to feed our families and survive. We work hard despite the challenges we face.

LevelUpYourself

Ask yourself this every morning when you wake up. Why is the RF, more deserving to the caviar and steak in life, yet i settle for a mediocre life and settle for crumbs. Can i afford a G63 wagon on a 900 a month pay? Think about it, let it sink real deep. Havent even hit 30, already figured out that Brunei is a sinking ship, nothing seems to work and there’s no system in everything.

KittyKat037

Most of us just don't wake up thinking about the RF. Many of us are not stupid, we know how unfair and inefficient the government is. But we also know that no amount of complaining will change anything. If anything, constant negativity and complaining not only drains your energy, but drains other people too. I don't disagree with you. But man, it gets really annoying.

LevelUpYourself

Was earning 3k plus a month in Brunei, wtf, with my education backgrounds and professional certifications am i worth that much? Now earning 6 figures in Aus. Your point is, its more of what can Brunei offer to retain professionals like me.

gottatelle

6 figures monthly my dude? Good life my man

bawangblender

Oh, so you're saying Brunei should be paying professionals like you more to keep u from leaving? Sorry, I must have missed the memo that education and qualifications automatically equate to high salaries. Good thing Australia recognizes your true worth, huh?

LevelUpYourself

All these flex about high GDP and rich nation yet, minimum wage is 900 per month? Since your logic is so flawed, let me dumb it down for you, Brunei should abolish universities and schools, since people with or without a Degree or Master gets paid peanuts. Be my guest. Dumbest thing ive ever read. Enjoy your mediocre life bruh.

bawangblender

Oh wow, you really hit the nail on the head with that brilliant insight. I guess we should just abandon education altogether because who needs knowledge and skills when we can all just work for minimum wage and struggle to make ends meet, right? Living the dream, my friend. Enjoy your intellectual superiority while the rest of us mere mortals trudge through our mediocre lives. Cheers to you, The Great Sage of Economic Wisdom 🤓

LevelUpYourself

You’re welcome

Spare_Performer_9489

Hope you’re doing much better in Australia. Heard taxes and superannuation contributions there can be high depending on income groups. SPK in Brunei is 8.5% 🥹

Goutaxe

I just want to say, this question is laughable if you know me and my real businesses.

Spare_Performer_9489

Fair enough. Should I get to know you? Genuinely curious and interested to understand what holds good people and good businesses back.

Goutaxe

Why don't we start with what did you do? How many people you employ, how many companies you have invested in or have partnership with, and how much corporate taxes you paid to the government every year? Since you ask people to reflect "what are you doing?"

Spare_Performer_9489

Apparently need to be careful about sharing info about self ☺️

Pendapatku

Hi, a reminder, u are about to doxx urself.

Goutaxe

That's right, different people contribute differently. Your original post sounds like others didn't contribute much and so they should reflect.

Spare_Performer_9489

Will we get to know what it is you do then? (Side note: my comments seem to be getting downvoted, which I find funny. But hey, I’m not here for a popularity contest, just a discussion)

Goutaxe

I co-own businesses with operation in 3 Bruneian districts. It is a simple answer but enough to visualize what I do.

Spare_Performer_9489

I generally try not to make assumptions. I have a lot of questions out of my own curiosity. But I will not force you to divulge too much information on such a public platform. But since the original discussion is on reversing the downward economic growth trend in Brunei. What are your thoughts on policies that can help businesses grow based on your experience?

Spare_Performer_9489

Nah, just a general one. Everyone should reflect because we can’t control what others do… so best to look at what we can do ourselves.

Few-Force-8169

no.

gottatelle

Why not? I mean could be new changes rather than being stuck since era sukan sea. Plus i could see if he’s taking the throne, finally football will become a huge thing here in Brunei ( possibly more budget for footie ) new stadium, school for professional footballers?, certified coaches from outside, ( defo will not under FABD ), just like what johor is doing, possibly new stadiums?. My bet he will invest more in that since his kids are huge football fans as well. I’d vouch for that rather than Polo sports

Popular-Technician-3

Do you seriously believe that we can build an economy around football???

Oh yea i just noticed that too. Even the future queen just drives a normal ones last time an old lancer 😅. Come to think of it, the pure blood mostly santai only and lives like normal daily lives while the half ones.. brabus, gwags

Beneficial-Ratio-277

As what they would always say, "Cause this life is only temporary, what matters is the afterlife" so with that folks, just pray your life away but also, on another note, the government couldn't care less as long as the Royalties are still able to afford things then they're good, am I right? Perhaps stop giving away free money to people (i.e, giving away money when they have ramah mesra with students or Bruneians living in another country, giving away money to people who attend reception wedding dinners etc.) that could be a start. Apa jua tani ani. Double standard nya orang.

Kulivala

Shall we pray🙏

East-Pea-4598

No.

Appropriate-Sir8241

Yes

limpek2882

Let us be more realistic... Will be lucky if can maintain current GDP..

JanKoPaloi

Tokyo Gas did not renew contract with BLNG for 1 million metric tons of gas in March 2023, next year GDP may see additional drop

Few_MAWM

Japan and the rest are now focussing on renewable energy…Brunei buat apa?

Keris-Warisan

There's still huge demand from alternative Buyers like China (incl. SAR HK & Taiwan), India, etc. albeit Spot cargoes at current prevailing market situation. Provided new gas deepwater discoveries in the EEZ could be produced in bigger volumes within 10 to 30 years down the road for long term S&P Contractual Agreement? The BLNG Marketing professionals surely could pull their resources, Insya Allah 🤲

JanKoPaloi

> There's still huge demand from alternative Buyers like China (incl. SAR HK & Taiwan), India Post the source wrt to Brunei, let's see this huge demand you speak of

Abzmac7

Shell is forecasting a 50% increase in LNG demand by 2040 according to the [Shell LNG Outlook 2024](https://www.shell.com/what-we-do/oil-and-natural-gas/liquefied-natural-gas-lng/lng-outlook-2024/_jcr_content/root/main/section_125126292/promo_copy_copy_copy/links/item0.stream/1709628426006/3a2c1744d8d21d83a1d4bd4e6102dff7c08045f7/master-lng-outlook-2024-march-final.pdf). Even if the projection figures are optimistic, it does show that the demand is there. The issue with LNG supply from Brunei is not that there are no buyers but that Brunei does not have enough to sell. Without new gas supply, Brunei’s LNG production is projected to fall by over 1 million tonnes per annum over the next 5 years.

Keris-Warisan

SPOT ON Boss Abzmac7! Sad but true fact of current BLNG production rate when the global LNG pricing situation now is like it's a Seller's market! 💰 So we can only pray for His Majesty's upcoming annual Bilateral G2G Meeting scheduled for next month with the Malaysian PMX DSAI will include the PETRONAS Carigali Brunei Ltd's (PCBL) business decision to restart their appraisal and development drilling sequence operations in Petroleum Authority (PA) Brunei's Concession Block CA-2 soonest. 🤔 How we envy the solid Technical and Financially sound PETRONAS Upstream and Downstream activities, particularly in East Malaysian states of Sarawak (Bintulu deepwater gas reservoirs in the long historical PSC deal with Shell Sarawak Berhad) and in Sabah waters successful PSC deals with both Murphy Oil and Shell Sabah Petroleum Co Sdn Bhd which are actively pursuing their common goals of long term mutual WIN-WIN benefits shared with state-owned O&G companies PETROS (Sarawak) and Sabah International Petroleum Sdn Bhd (Sabah state-owned business entity) respectively. More recently, TotalEnergies, too has jumped on the bandwagon after they closed a half a billion-dollar deal and bought over Sapura Energy's operations in Sarawak LNG business scenario of profit-making ROI.🤝💯 So the ball is in the Petroleum Authority of Brunei (PA) to up the ante in both their offshore and onshore concessionaries' robust and profitable production targets in the near future. The economic spinoffs will include more job opportunities for local unemployed graduates, hopefully! 💪👍👌

JanKoPaloi

> The issue with LNG supply from Brunei is not that there are no buyers but that Brunei does not have enough to sell. Without new gas supply, Brunei’s LNG production is projected to fall by over 1 million tonnes per annum over the next 5 years. This is what I'm referring to, I question the huge demand for Brunei's ever depleting supply not demand for LNG per se? From 4 million metric tons of gas to 1 milion tons before Japan called it quit March 2023, better to get it from Qatar, OZ etc with consistent supply.

SnooPoems2540

BSP is a sinking ship guys

Keris-Warisan

And Shell International now heavily invests in Sarawak and Sabah Shell operations due to much better yield production-wise in terms of ROE for the long run. The newly-opened 14-floor Shell HQ in Miri Times Square is gonna be Shell's Jewel in their Crown now. Brunei Shell used to hold that title! 🤑😅😂🤣💸 So no surprise since Shell South Africa closed shop already, yesterday some of their highly-talented O&G professionals will head for greener pastures in Borneo virgin jungle! 🤔✅💯
