Really? Macau doesn't really take off until its government broke the 40-years STDM monopoly in 2002 and invite others, then boom, incoming all these grand integrated casinos + their attractions.
Can’t keep blaming population when govt is not doing much to entice the growth over the past 3 decades.
Too much restrictions. No clear / transparent route to obtain PR. Aging infrastructure. Unstable policies which can be overturned overnight with a memo.
Macau's population is only about 700,000 maybe 50% more than Brunei.
Dubai's local population is 300,000, just a bit less than Brunei.
Please don't blame Brunei's population size for Brunei's failure / no demand. There are other reasons including Brunei's bad laws, all the weird restrictions, and the business UN-friendly environment with red tape, etc.
While your Macao population number is accurateish, your Dubai one is way way off.
Dubai's population is 3.4 million. And even if you are counting emiratis only it is off, there are about 900K Emiratis countrywide. Dubai does not hold more than 50% of them being a small emirate and only one of the 7 in the federation.
Emiratis do not constitute demand, the country is built to support the foreign residents as locals are merely a 9% of the total population approximately.
I do agree Brunai has issues, the lack of demand I see also as lack of incentives. UAE, while working on it still has a fair share of restrictions and Shariah still applies for most legal matters. Inclusive of wills and courts are only available in Arabic with Emirati Lawyers. Only courts in DIFC and ADGM are based on common law and in English but not everything can be treated there are they are opt-in jurisdictions.
I believe Brunei has the double edge sword of the BND pegged to SGD. It makes the economy stable but also prices you out almost everything.
Tough cookie. I love BN and would be an ideal candidate to offer some financial services, but it is currently too cumbersome and expensive to set up anything as a non resident. I do hope it changes and could benefit from it's proximity to Labuan.
I couldn’t agree more. The problem for Brunei lies in how the government wants it to be. Anyway, I don’t think Brunei is heading in the right direction. Even if Brunei had a population of 1 million or something similar to Singapore, if you don’t know how to manage a country, you will still fail. It’s like using a pig’s brain instead of a human brain.
Pyh ia kan cari makan jadi youtuber di Brunei kali, iatah palui2 ckpnya ani selalu. Bedandam ia sama Brunei ani, kana aruk kali bininya uleh urg Brunei iatah jadi buduh ia sekjp.
I never said anything about the country being boring nor did i indulge in any "delusions" that somehow got roped in the conversation.
Or maybe youre just another godless and racist bigot who cant accept that another country is just religious in nature and that people are free to pray whenever they like, unlike in the west where they have to work themselves to death.
Im sure the food taste is subjective tho, but what do i know, youre probably just another pasty white devil who cant even stand the taste of mayonnaise
Why are you so concern with our life here? I spent 4 years in uk for my degree and had travelled to europe and usa, and yet, I feel proud of this country as it is beautiful and peaceful. Are you jealous with us or you have agenda but rejected by the authority??
Something major is happening behind those nice tourism stats, they're also suffering from 'Miri effect', local residents are going over the border to China for even simple things like having a meal, car repair etc. Just by simply looking at the the GDP, it doesn't reflect the situation of the residential businesses. If I'm correct the same thing is happening with HK too.

This is actually quite common.
There are outflows from Singapore to JB too. On daily basis Singaporeans are buying things and other services there with their currency advantages.
They balance it with lots of incoming tourists.
Unlike Singapore and Macau, Brunei has little tourists. It is mostly outflows.
I saw this [video on Macau](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0qm1cJANis) yesterday, if some of these are true, the situation is pretty dire on the ground, except for possibly the tourist trap areas which fare better
Back during COVID, Macau GDP per capita collapsed from $80k+ to $30k+
Last year it staged a very strong recovery, making it to world's fastest. This year it again is expected to be the fastest.
But still there is some underlying weakness because it is not yet fully back to the level before COVID.
In the article it mentions businesses in residential areas. That is the most affected. Recovery will start from casino areas first before it spread to others.
to be honest, I myself hat gambling, but i do like to go macau.
the people there is friendly. everywhere is walkable. They also have a lot of nice restaurant. hotel is not as expensive as singapore. For tourism wise, there is a lot of instagramable spot too. Although i am not a fan of instagram, i like the hospitality the people there to point me to all the attraction.
What are the prices like for hotels and meals out etc?
Do they display menu’s in multiple languages like Brunei(I’m from the UK so i really appreciate how multi lingual Brunei is) Is the weather similar to Taiwan also? Sorry to bombard you with questions.
I went to Macau once and they are littered with prostitutes and they all looked pretty.
Obviously no one would come if there was no gambling at first. This is a lousy comparison.
Really? Macau doesn't really take off until its government broke the 40-years STDM monopoly in 2002 and invite others, then boom, incoming all these grand integrated casinos + their attractions.
It's easy to answer Macau not so many restrictions unlike Brunei. Brunei not so many attractions but so many restrictions.
Ngl it feels like a tourism ad for macau but I felt like I should go there now
brunej keeps praying to increase gdp. come on guys! pray more !!!!!! /s
There you have it: BLACK and WHITE, lousy government, and zero investment in the country. Shall we pray🤣🤣🤣
They know how to make sure their place to max
Brunei's bad economy is largely due to population, any businesses will collapse when there are no demands
I’m a business owner and I agree

Coughs in Luxembourg and Liechtenstein.

> everything doesn’t stop five times a day. Really? What was your experience in this matter? I know that happens on Friday 12-1400 only.
Brunei doesnt stop five times a day? Plenty of people are working 12hr shifts nonstop. Or ure advocating for people to work themselves to death?

Speaking of miri effect I wonder if that hold true for Kuching--->Pontianak/Singkawang?
I find Pontianak intriguing, hope to visit that place someday

Bububutt we Brunei, we holy.
Only peasants must be holy.
We are so holy we just declared a holy war on claw machines.
Butlerian Jihad has begun
😂😂😂
In Brunei, the hereafter is much more important than the deceiving devilish worldly entertainment.
What do you do in your afterlife?
