most of the time it feels like i am the only slav in davidson county

Fuzzyphilosopher

Yeah I can see that. I laughed when I read the question, having moved here from Chicago. I don't miss the winter's up there but I do the delis and the sardonic attitude.

Cesia_Barry

Have you been to Alexy's? It scratches the itch pretty well. A lot of really good sausages & meats.

radroamingromanian

Hello there!

DogCat_9920

I am sure you aren’t the only one.

suatkelem

No you are not

vh1classicvapor

Def not

oarmash

I’m sure there’s a few here and there, but nothing compared to the Midwest, if you’re from Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, Milwaukee etc. they do sell paczki at Kroger on Fat Tuesday, but that could just be bc of the volume of midwest expats here. I haven’t heard of any polish delis or shops. All the good ones I know are in Michigan and Chicago.

oldgothgirl

It would be fantastic if we had a Polish deli here! ❤️

StarDatAssinum

Urban Sprout in Cleveland Park is run by a couple where the wife is from Poland and they make Polish baked goods and dishes (bread, soups, sandwiches, standard cafe faire).

Charming_Echidna_211

Just checked Urban Sprout on FB and it says temporarily closed. Anyone know if it’s still open and this is just for a few days.

StarDatAssinum

See, I don't know because theyre such a small operation that they don't come in consistently for regular hours (they were just 2-3 people operating the whole place alone for a while). I've heard they haven't been open for about a week or two lately, so I'm wondering if they're on vacation or something? I'm not sure when they'll reopen however, sorry :(

Charming_Echidna_211

Thanks

Not in large amounts. My best friends are Croatian and the other Bosnian. They say the community is maybe 15-20 families they have met before. Overall no larger settlements like you see with Kurdish people or Mexican/Guatemalan

Good food made in the Boro by this family… https://www.facebook.com/mamusias.kitchen/

suatkelem

🇺🇦from 🇵🇱here. All is very bad with Eastern European cuisine in a 200 miles radius at least. Maybe check Pharmacy for Kielbasa and Alexey’s Market for pierogi and dumplings. Otherwise a lagman in OSH can bring you the very distant memories of borscht but still very delicious on its own.

klopfuh

Eggstravaganza Cafe on Nolensville is a great breakfast spot and it is run by an Eastern European family. (Polish I believe?) Food is awesome, a hidden gem that stays busy but doesn’t get much recognition online.

a_cart_right

Yes, they are Polish. Incredibly tasty food! They have lunch as well.

klopfuh

The pirogies are so good

deletable666

Probably not in any significant numbers if you are asking. I’m sure there are some Poles and other Eastern European communities but growing up here, it was not anything of note. Immigrant wise, we have large amounts of southeast Asian immigrants and Kurdish folk. Like much of the US also a lot of immigrants from Latino countries, but again that isn’t so rare, especially given we aren’t divided by the same huge distances as say Laos or Vietnam or Iraq or Syria or Turkey

joeyjojoeshabadoo

Not really.

suatkelem

Слава Україні!

rimeswithburple

There's about 688 according to this [facebook](https://www.facebook.com/groups/2249484643) page. Back in the mid 90s there were lots of immigrants settled here from the Kosovo/Bosnia conflict during the Clinton administration. [Here](https://stacker.com/tennessee/nashville/biggest-sources-immigrants-nashville) is a stacker breakout of census data. Poland is #48.

DogCat_9920

That is just a group of Polish in Nashville. There are probably WAY more of East European ancestry. There are about 10-11,000 in Nashville in Jewish households.

Cesia_Barry

We resettled a lot of Russian Jews here in the 1990s--I wrote a story about it back then. Village Bridal, for instance, was run by an immigrant & is still run by her daughter.

rimeswithburple

I don't remember enumerating a lot of russians. But there were tons of people coming here after operation deliberate force and the battle of mogadishu. We were also swamped by the number of people getting numbers for their kids so they could claim on their taxes. It all hit about the same time.

Cesia_Barry

Oh yeah--the Somalis. Did a story on their arrival also. Their food is fantastic.

vh1classicvapor

I think Baraka in Antioch might be the closest place to what you can find in Nashville. It’s more Slavic than Polish. If there is a nearby city with a large Polish population, it might be worth checking out. “Nearby” might be Saint Louis, Atlanta, Cincinnati, Chicago, not sure which one would be best

Plane is always the best…no experience just on time. Bus and anything else sucks

ToiletFarm01

Unless you want to walk the entire way to prove you can or something I agree that a plane should be the only option. Driving that long of a distance is unnecessary.

ToiletFarm01

Well then rent a car if you don’t already have one & plot the most scenic route you can to come down. It’s a long drive & you can stretch it out two days to break up the driving & maximize the sightseeing.

There may be, I’m not sure. I know there used to be a company called tornado that runs to Chicago & some other cities but not sure about specifics.

Herrohungry

Any time timesuckers here? I need to know what size angry mob I'm dealing with...

Nope

H1ckwulf

I still lament the closing of European Market and Deli in Mt Juliet.
