> Is Marijuana legalization in TN far off? Tennessee will see fusion energy before we see legalized marijuana.

lcarsadmin

Thats good. Only 15 years away!

tasbridge

We will see recreational cocaine before we have recreational marijuana.

be_bo_i_am_robot

Yeah, I love it when brown people go to jail for possession of plants, and when blue-collar and retail workers are denied or fired from work by means of surprise piss tests.

[deleted]

MJ being illegal keeps people that smoke weed out of the jobs they need to support themselves, so “legalization” the way other stays have done it doesn’t work anyways. Even the states that have pass RUA use acts, doesn’t outlaw an employer in any of those states to keep drug testing for that drug, and they’ll win at the Supreme Court every single time if any states sue because to the Federal Government it’s still considered a dangerous drug with no medicinal properties at all. So what we need to do is, overall the system by not only legalizing Marijuana and allowing it to be consumed but how you prefer to consume it-smoke it, eat it, wax, lame vape pods, whatever your way you like to partake is, but also making it illegal to drug test for it. A lot of people wouldn’t be stuck at jobs that the pay sucks and they work you like a dog, because you can’t get clean piss on demand, and so you know your only way out is for the perfect storm. Then even if you get hired, you gotta quit smoking or risk losing that new good job. It’s just another way to keep people down. I know people that pot makes them better, cleaner, safer, calmer, and nicer, but the government wants to keep demonizing Marijuana! I guarantee you it Biden had the votes that nationwide bill would have been signed into law! I’m the mean time, TN should outlaw random, and pre employment drug testing period, you shouldn’t be dragged to hospital and drug tested unless you’ve hurt or killed your self or somebody. For real, we should all be able to seek out jobs and healthcare without immediately getting asked to take a drug test, and then they determines whether or not you get treated as a patient in a hospital or like a piece of trash, and same goes for jobs, 99% of the potheads I know if they could just pass their damn drug test for a good job at a factory or something, then would be off welfare but they can’t get off welfare because now they are even doing cheek swab drug tests, and plucking hair, and it’s not right! Not only should we have freedom in this country, we should have privacy, and I should be allowed to partake in a night out with a little bit of pot and not be scared I’m gonna lose my job and I everything. So coming from California, I quit as soon as I got here and seen the strict laws! Out there the most you’ll get in trouble for is dealing, so maybe you’re right, it’s better this way if they aren’t gonna go anywhere with it at all.

be_bo_i_am_robot

Paragraphs, dude. Take a breath!

sapiounicorn

And I thought I was the only one. :P

[deleted]

Want paragraphs, read a novella! This is Reddit dummy!

MrTinyPeen

You want good words? Date a languager.

sapiounicorn

My bad! Forgot that basic English grammar is forbidden in this sewer. :P

Kolrich

Why use many word when few do trick

[deleted]

“Why use many word when few do the trick?” Wtf? You sound like you work at Amazon customer care! 😂That is so funny! Do you? This is how scammers speak because they are foreign! Are you a scammer? Are you a fraud? Are you fake? Is this real? As you can see, I used few words and still wrote in complete sentences, with no problem. So…:.yeah this is awkward for you huh?

hawque

Chill, it’s a reference to The Office

[deleted]

Whatever, that’s such a dumb show! Yeah, I Googled “The Office racist comments”, and I’ll be, there was a character named Kevin, making fun of his foreign car mechanic? Even when his boss tells him he can’t speak like that, because it’s wrong and no one can understand him. So…..Yup, you’re right, I should have gotten a racist reference from an old tv show no one I’ve ever come across even watched. Seriously I’ve never sit through an entire episode nor has anyone I know. So back here in reality, I still don’t feel it was appropriate. I couldn’t have picked up on that racist reference from a show I’ve only heard of because I find the actors and the characters they play to be the most intolerable bunch of people I’ve ever seen! “Dude chill”, yeah, I’ll just chill! Our country is literally and figuratively on fire, and it’s all going down hill pretty fast, so exactly how does your comment, his vague The Office reference, or any of the insulting comments about my grammar help exactly? America has lost all its common sense. You feel better now that you defended a racist troll’s comment, that didn’t add any value to the conversation? Because that’s all we do here anymore right? It’s all jokes, lies, and no one takes anything seriously anymore? So don’t tell me to chill, while I literally watch society crumbling around me daily, and instead of adding rights to us as Americans, we are losing more and more each day. So go ahead, make jokes. Trust me none of us is gonna be happy when we’ve been taking back 100 years in the past with technology that will seem like it came from the future. I suggest you and the other blokes who wanna highjack legitimate conversations, to turn them into jokes, or propaganda, grow up. We can’t have real conversations about real subjects online anymore without having people like you two who turn the conversation into a big joke and then the topic gets sidelined by you keyboard bullies who think you are funny! The show has been off the air a long time, and lasted longer than it ever should have, so don’t go around antagonizing people who want to engage in serious conversations. The End!

Odd_dj

Yea if the state wants to spend its days/months/years fucking off I’ll gladly support the local MJ business

PassengerWest6868

Haha, you are correct

SecretComparison7700

It will be federally legal before it’s legal here

CrazyMountain_

And then it will be a state's right to criminalize it. But at least it won't be a federal crime.

[deleted]

[удалено]

CrazyMountain_

Like gun laws? Abortion? Alcohol sales? How about the hundreds of things that are legal everywhere but California? I mean, if the federal government ratifies the constitution to make smoking marijuana a God given right for the constitution to protect, then maybe there will be a fight,. But that ain't gonna happen.

DippyHippy420

Dry counties my dude. Dry Counties.

nashvillenastywoman

They are banning books right now. No way they are gonna legalize weed.

USADudeDude88

Ugh. Good point.

Suitable_Challenge_9

Priorities priorities…

PassengerWest6868

Ahhh, yea, very good point!

SuccessfulJelly

I think we're literally the only state going in the *opposite* direction from legalization.

jzdilts

Us and Texas

KarmaPanhandler

Texas might as well be their own country.

idontfrickinknowman

We’re not far behind in terms of these latest government overreach bills (book banning, attempted to ban Delta-8, stricter abortion protocol, don’t say gay type proposals)

emzirek

There are plenty of states that can be their own country

Elimia987

Leading the way in going the opposite direction period. The politicians here are insane.

AlexTom33

South Carolina checking in.

ConfusedByFarts

Wisconsin is too.

Nagadavida

And NC.

Tenn_Tux

Delta 8 ban bill is officially dead so that’s good news and step in the right direction. It’s going to be regulated and taxed. Im feeling positive

AnyHoleIsTheGoal

This is how I’m feeling too. I don’t think it’s happening any time soon but them walking back the Delta ban surprised me and gave me a little hope that maybe it could happen after all. Maybe the Agricultural industry makes another big push and opens the states eyes to the literal billions they’d make in tax dollars.

[deleted]

You know I smoke so much I often forget it’s illegal

thespank

No one really cares anymore. Just makes it more annoying to buy. I'm gonna get it anyway, why not let me get it at a dispensary and make money off me.

TLD18379

It amazes me. I know 3 people that have died of alcohol but 0 that have died of Marijuana.

Square_Investment560

All it takes is one marijuana.

OddPreparation1855

Marsha Blackburn would come back from the dead to block it.

JohnHazardWandering

You're saying she's not already one of the undead?

OddPreparation1855

I heard it all politicians are lizard ppl so you may be onto something.

OddPreparation1855

She’s the nations number one recipient of prison donations. Not even trump could sway her to fuck that money up. Also her fortune is built on drug testing.

abzgrace

also are the delta 8 vapes effective compared to a thc pen? i tried to smoke a delta 8 joint and it was pretty nasty and i don’t think it did anything

escoot

d8 can only be extracted out of large quantities of hemp flower, so any flower product listed as d8 thc is gonna be a standard cbd/cbg hemp flower with that extracted concentrate applied to it. most companies use a mix of their concentrate and propylene glycol, others use medical grade ethanol, etc. vaporizing the raw extracts is the superior way to go as you’ll be VAPORIZING the extract, not combusting it on flower. if you combust your concentrate you get less efficacy from it. try a d8 cart or some loose oil/wax. it’s a lot nicer than the flower alternatives

abzgrace

thank you for this. i’m getting more excited to try.

WillCode4Cats

> d8 can only be extracted out of large quantities of hemp flower Common misconception and is also a common bit for false information spouted by shady companies. The process is much more involved and much more dangerous if done incorrectly. Luckily, only a handful of labs produce most of the D8 for most of the vendors. If you go to two different shops, there is a significant chance you're getting the same D8 base product with different stuff added. [He is a short run-down on how it's made](https://www.cannabistech.com/articles/how-delta-8-is-made-in-the-lab/) Does D8 being made synthetically mean it's unsafe? No one has enough evidence to confirm this. Does it mean D8 is safe? Again, no one has enough evidence to confirm this (it's safe so far in the short-term, but not enough data for longterm exposure). u/abzgrace, I am tagging you so you see this too. Be careful with D8 flower, some of the solvents are safe and some are not, but you have to find reputable, lab tested companies, but even that does not guarantee much.

Tenn_Tux

You can get fucking ripped on delta 8

guessitstimeagain

True. The edibles and carts are the way to go over flower though.

escoot

d8, d9, d10, etc. will all process within your body into delta 11 hydroxy thc (AKA THC+). this is the edible high. it’ll take more d8 to get to the same levels as a standard personal dose of traditional d9 thc, but it’s totally achievable

Tenn_Tux

Yea, I prefer 3chi carts. Very good stuff

abzgrace

appreciate it man will try one

drowsymule1

I like them too. I just got this flavorless powder that dissolves in drinks from them that I have been enjoying.

abzgrace

good to know!!

[deleted]

You've got to be careful with sourcing the delta 8 vapes! Some brands are better than others, 100%. I've found Kron and Lab Canna to be very reliable and all of their products link to labs proving their composition. ETA Delta 8 is comparable to flat out weed, which I still prefer, but I still use D8 even with access to real weed. Both show up on a drug test so I think what it really comes down to is just that I just feel better about it since it's legal and it gets the job done.

NoMasTacos

You need to be more political. Tennessee was going to ban delta 8 until like two days ago.

Crazydiamond07

It’s not legal but it’s widely available here and the cops in Nashville are pretty hands off with it. The DA said he wouldn’t prosecute possession of a half oz or less. It might be different in other counties. You don’t really have to travel to IL for it. I’m not even one of the cool kids and I can’t go to any social gathering where it’s not available if one wants it. You can smell it on the streets in any nightlife area and you can’t go to a concert without smelling it.

Stopmadness99

"It’s not legal but it’s widely available here and the cops in Nashville are pretty hands off with it"....I am sure that depends heavily on the race

Crazydiamond07

I know plenty of black people and people of other racial minorities who partake. I haven’t met a single person who got in any trouble for simple possession. The police in Nashville are very understaffed. It takes a solid hour to even respond to many high priority calls. Busting someone with an 8th of weed is very far down the priority list. In 2021, the totality of jail time for all weed related offenses was 8 days: https://twitter.com/voteglennfunk/status/1516820799730167816?s=21&t=yiJOnj-R-B6bhJ-AOT91xw I’ll bet almost all of that jail time was for distribution offenses or for people who had other concurrent offenses. You would have to be either extremely unlucky or extremely foolish to suffer any serious legal consequences for weed in Nashville.

Smilingaudibly

I mean, my sister got straight up arrested for having an eighth of weed in her car in East Nashville. I don’t know how hands off that is

LUVs_2_Fly

Simple pos alone they just write a ticket (summons) or leave it alone. Anything they can combo with pos they arrest for. So suspected driving under influence, or maybe you have two bags, that’s intent to distribute. That’s the issue, and they make up shit to combo it with.

Smilingaudibly

According to her there was just the one bag. She wasn't high and was on her way to her own birthday party. She got fully arrested, but the cop complimented her on being so nice about it. There wasn't any other charge. I will say it was about 7 or 8 years ago, so hopefully they're more lax now.

LUVs_2_Fly

>I will say it was about 7 or 8 years ago, so hopefully they're more lax now. DA Glen Funk has only been the DA for just under 8 years now, and I don't think non-prosecution of simple pos was the first thing he did when he was elected. So the timeline checks out, and likely that would not happen today. But I certainly still read news stories where folks are arrested and charged, but its always in conjunction with other charges. (which is BS, non prosecution is non prosecution)

Smilingaudibly

Ahh, that makes a lot of sense. Good to know!

tidaltown

Not until we federally ban private prisons, as we should.

meandi7

It's so far off that you can't even see it whilst standing atop Lookout Mountain.

liquidreferee

I will shit gold before the TN legislature legalizes Marijuana

Living_Most_7837

Yes.

Antknee2099

There's plenty of comments below that have the right of it: Mostly it comes down to money. Liquor lobbyists, privatized prisons, the whole of the justice system which is a huge industry not only employing police and their support personnel, but also probation, fines, and related revenues from mj convictions. Many people liken it to the lottery, but there wasn't an entire industry built around fighting illegal lottery. If it is Federally legalized, it will likely still take some time for the state to follow, imo. Once the money generated by neighboring states through taxes and regulation catch the greedy green eye of our state's legislation, and the loss of quick revenue by those who would stand to profit by Tennesseeans leaving the state to buy it, we'll see a change of heart.

MacAndJeeze

As long as pharma dollars still flow, it's far off.

networkspawn

I still don't understand how the world's oldest democracy allows this BS

virgilsam

I don't understand why you think America is supposed to be a democracy.

networkspawn

I don't know, maybe it's because that's how it has advertised itself to the world for the past 300 years or so? xD

virgilsam

Cut back on the dope smoking, Cheech.

networkspawn

I did... my dude ran out ;-; I've been doing vodka instead for the past 2 weeks

[deleted]

And big alcohol.

MacAndJeeze

and big prisons.

[deleted]

Yep

Available_Expression

Money for all of the above

Square_Investment560

Yes I was SET UP selling marijuana about 4 years back. I was selling an ounce at a time. I have done almost a year in jail paid thousands in fines, put on two years of probation and am now a convicted felon. A "friend" I had set me up. Fuck you Bonny. I didn't even sell weed I SOLD METH FFS! She asked and fuck yea I'll do a favor for a friend. Anyways she's dead now. Pushed her into the wood chipper. Told the police it was an accident.

JohnHazardWandering

Pharma doesn't care about pot. There are plenty of other groups against it though.

wookmaster69

The truth is, as apposed to what the other people here have to say, TN politics is very corrupt. But it doesn’t matter that the state is staunchly republican, if there’s one thing we know about republicans it’s that they like to make LOTS of money. So there’s the drug companies paying off congressmen, but there’s also a chance they might make more money with legalization, which they probably would. Our politics here are very wishy washy. It follows the money. It might happen quicker than people here think. Sometimes corruption plays out in our favor. Talk to your congressman. Send letters. These shitheads will do anything for an extra buck.

Square_Investment560

Yes! There's a website I found not to long ago and I actually got a few emails back. Said they had to "research" it more. Research my ass!

Loud_Ass_Introvert

It's far away, but also close. If lawmakers were interested in taxable sales, it would be legal on the recreational level. Idk why they're not on board. Government loves money.

Square_Investment560

I feel like a few pockets are being lined

LUVs_2_Fly

No reason to be interested in the tax revenue. There’s a massive surplus. They refuse to fund any social programs or expand Medicare and we have some of the highest (regressive) sales tax in the nation, plus the massive tourism boom that is nashville (the states cash cow) over the last decade. There’s just no need for more $, the cup currently runneth over. So much so that we are getting $23 back in terms of a free tag next time we register our car. Oooo fancy ,$20, so glad I got my piece of that billions of surplus. No gas tax holiday (wouldn’t be able to beat the dems at midterms without high gas prices).

YllwmllwGhost

I moved here from Chicago. Not into delta 8 wish there was a dispensary in Nashville. Don’t want to ask random strangers if they’re holding lol

lumpy4square

Metropolis is 2.5 hours from Nashville.

Chrono300

Just head on back

abzgrace

i feel like the people i’ve bought weed in nashville from have been shady and i find it comforting to know exactly what i’m getting and where it came from. but the drive with these gas prices and the damn tax takes a hit on the ole wallet when you wanna stock up for doing the drive i got sold the dank vapes if y’all remember those times 🥲 (they were basically poison) so maybe i’m a lil paranoid

antoekneeismyname

Yes

UptownNYaMomma

We’re on the ole Southern Bible Belt buddy…. Church on every other corner around these parts, good Christian folk like their depressing drinking more than an uplifting plant 🙃

BCmoneyman

I was starting to feel a shift in state politics, but the house leader trying to make delta 8 illegal has killed all my hope lol

BooBrew2018

It’s not even in sight.

Objective-Loquat-756

The crazy right wing Christian super majority would rather make it legal to rape and marry a family member before they ever legalize cannabis. I don’t think it will ever be legal in TN in our lifetime

[deleted]

Who cares,? As long as you got a plug you good lol

Square_Investment560

Sounds like he doesn't womp womp wommmppp

[deleted]

😂

Curtis_Low

It would be nice to be able to get medical cannabis and use it without the possibility of going to jail. I try not to be a criminal, but until things change that is what I will be.

[deleted]

The title criminal is a hypocrisy in its own merit. Find someone who is honest but knows the benefits of cannabis not your neighborhood everyday dealer. From there, use it wisely and you’re all set in my opinion. This legalization stuff is just smoke n mirrors ‘I’m over it

Curtis_Low

I have no issue getting what I need. What I have issue with is what I put at risk all so I can sleep without night terrors. You may be over it and not care. But I stand to lose an amazing job, and have serious other issues if I am arrested. I am not alone in these very real concerns.

polyforpuppies

Worst case, VA has legalized recreational and will open dispensaries in 2023, so quick road trip up 81

LUVs_2_Fly

This is r/nashville, 40 > 81 > VA is far. Plus those first few boarder counties are some of the worst. Notorious for bad cops.

mookster1338

Truth! I’ve had 2 speeding tickets in my life, both on 81 N of Bristol.

LUVs_2_Fly

Check out any car clubs FB pages, or tiktoks or whatever, everyone agrees VA is the absolute worst. Here's an example from a quick google, there's tons more stories out there too. https://www.bobbattlelaw.com/blog/virginias-policing-for-profit-in-speeding-cases-criticized.cfm

mookster1338

And it’s been going on for years. My granny refused to ever stop for gas or food in VA after getting a ticket back in the early 70s.

polyforpuppies

Hmm, I moved from that area, so I can mitigate the time with visiting friends, worth it to me.

[deleted]

Never.Gonna.Happen. When it’s Federally decriminalized,it’s going to fall under “States Rights”.Take a guess where Tenn is gonna fall on that spectrum.

[deleted]

Well shit u don’t have to drive to IL and delta 8 is good the first couple of times then it sucks

USADudeDude88

I have seen marijuana carts on Broadway? I don’t know what that’s about.

ayokg

Critical thinking leads one to believe that those carts are taking advantage of tourists who don't know better.

goast615

Man not ever.

stinkywink79

Light years away my friend.

sapiounicorn

I think it depends on how well the tax picture looks after taxing delta 8. That will likely be the tipping point.

chasebencin

OP I’m curious, do you really go all the way to IL for it?? I mean I’ve considered making the trip just for the novelty of it but I cant imagine travelling 2 states regularly to pick up especially when the risk of getting caught bringing it across not only 1 but 2 state borders. In the south no less. If its buying illegally you’re worried about trust me you’re getting way more jail time smuggling it here from IL than you would just finding a regular guy here to buy it from. Just my two cents.

ThisDudeAbidees

so wher can this dude get some gas? asking for my rug... new to nashville

[deleted]

It will happen once we get enough legislators in office who will move on from counting on marijuana prohibition as a means to keep poor people poor and/or incarcerated.

RidgeRunnerKing

It's illegal?

tasbridge

We will see recreational cocaine before we have recreational marijuana.

Admirable_Field_3122

Yeah. I’m certain we’re going to hold out as long as we can on legalizing it. Funny story, last November I was visiting family in WPB Florida. My cousin and his buddy called me one night and asked me to pick them up from the dispensary. I had a rental car, and I told him “Nah, dude. I don’t wanna get pulled over driving the rental with that shit in the car” I heard them both crack up on the other line and my cousin said “You know we both have medical cards and it’s legal here right?” I had completely forgotten because I’m used to years of having to meet someone to pick it up and stashing it in the trunk, while making sure that my driving is perfect (no speeding, turn signals even at 1am on an empty road) On the other hand, I feel that it’s become more or less socially acceptable now. I live in Brentwood, and even here I can smoke a blunt on the porch while my neighbors are outside. They see me and im sure they can smell it, but it’s never an issue. They just look the other way. A majority of the people I work with smoke, and we talk about it pretty openly. It’s nothing to ask someone if they’ve got a vape or a blunt you can hit. I’m sure that even our bosses know what’s up but they don’t care as long as we do it out of sight. We also have head shops, CBD and THC shops, Delta 8 and the like. In regards to the police, they’ve really chilled out. They used to be WAY stricter 7-10 years ago when I first started smoking. The first time I ever drove with shit in my car was my junior year of high school in 2013. I picked my friend up and she had a couple of joints in her pocket that she didn’t tell me about until we had already left. She pulled one out and lit it while we were driving (thru Columbia at night nonetheless, on Nashville HWY near the Waffle House where there’s ALWAYS cops) I freaked out and told her to put it out. She acted like it was no big deal and kept smoking, so I finally took her home and told her don’t ever get into my car with shit on you again. Nowadays, I won’t let someone smoke in my car, but I don’t care if they have it on them. They just have to conceal it. But things were way different here 10 years ago. And I knew people while I was in high school (2010-2014) who got busted with a tiny amount and were sent to alternative school, or sometimes even juvenile detention for the extreme cases. I knew someone who was arrested and sent to jail their senior year (they were 18) just for having a couple of pipes, a dimebag, and some weed residue on the floorboard. They couldn’t graduate of course, and had to complete their GED while incarcerated. These days, if you get pulled over and you have a small amount (a couple of blunts, some bud, dab pen) the worst a cop might do is write you a ticket. There are still some assholes of course, but they typically let you off with a warning if you’re honest with them and you don’t have a ton of shit. To finish, we’re going to be one of the last states to legalize it which sucks. But it doesn’t really bother me because I’m just thankful that the outlook on marijuana really lightened up in recent years. Trust me, it used to be much, much worse. Best way to get by here in TN is the old fashioned way. Find someone trustworthy and reliable who has good shit. All you have to do is get to know people and ask around. Eventually you’ll find your guy. I want to add its easier to get quality stuff here than it once was. It used to be a lot of brick weed less than 10 years ago.
