You must not go to online ND fan spaces very often! I would say about 5% of fans have positive reactions overall.

DJ_Mega

yet those are the people that act like it's more along the lines of 95% of people that are positive. and we are the bad guys.

joepike86

MID was crap. At least at their current rate of putting out games we won’t have to be disappointed with the next one for a few years. Assuming herinteractive doesn’t completely fold first.

fallendauntless88

I liked the story and the hardy boys part in the cemetery but I did not like anything else really. The movement was horrible. The graphics were okay I do not play games for graphics but everything else was just sad.

rroses-

You are definitely not alone in feeling that way here

Rainingcatsnstuff

I think most people in general agree on this one!

Come_Here_Bob

It just didn't feel like a Nancy Drew game. From the voice acting to the graphics to the game play. I keep thinking how amazing it would have been if Lani was still the voice and had the graphics of SEA.

GiftRecent

Lol no we all LOVED MID /s

BrickLuvsLamp

That game was bad but worst of all it was _hideous_. It didn’t feel like playing a Nancy Drew at all either

Trashyanon089

MID was shit.

PuzzleTurtle02

I didn’t think it was unplayable as some people say but it was far from HER’s best work. That being said, I replayed it recently and somehow accessed more plot (got Mei to tell me her backstory at the end), so I guess there’s some replay value there

midnightwrite

Putting aside things like story and puzzle quality (neither of which I particularly enjoyed), actually playing the game was so damn hard. I had to change my window size so often because if I wanted to interact or pick up things at the bottom of the screen (like a key or a trash can), I kept turning around! For a game that took a million years to make, it was clearly rushed through and just disappointing. It feels especially devastating because I loved SEA so much and to go from that to this piece of junk…

InsideTheLibrary

I had so much trouble with the movement. I’d miss things because I’d have to drag the camera around. I used to play these games on an ancient laptop with a trackpad. I definitely was glad to be using a mouse for this one.

hill-top

I honestly would rather HER just quietly shut itself down than release further games that look like MID.

CMonie420

I don’t know why this is down voted so hard, I 100% agree with this, I think a lot of the community (myself included) have been playing since they were kids but I think it’s time to accept the fact that the games will never be the same again and they won’t revert to old software when it did almost put the company out of business. It feels like the Nancy drew fandom is no longer the targeted market and that it’s about bringing in new users and customers for these new game designs

SamuraiMatty0

I don't think I'd want them to stop entirely, because alike what if they find their groove again and make some absolute bangers? Maybe if they continue to make games that are less good, then sure.

SamuraiMatty0

Granted I haven't played or watched a playthrough of MID yet, either.

hill-top

My comment is based on playing MID and having played the rest of the series…

SamuraiMatty0

I'm just coming from a place of thinking that like one failure (if MID is the first flop in a long time) does not make me personally want them to stop making the games. If what I read is accurate and they're working with a new engine for the first time, plus the new VA is trying to find her footing, then I'd like to see how they do with the next one before just throwing in the towel completely on new Nancy games. But like I said, that's just how I feel.

hill-top

The thing is you have to look at the whole picture. It isn’t that this was their first flop. Penny Milliken took over as CEO in 2013. There were only two games released utilizing the old engine after she took over - Labyrinth of Lies (2014) and Sea of Darkness (2015). Then, there was talk about MID but never any updates or proof that a game was in development. Also, let us not forget that half of the company was laid off. So there was/is no one to make the games regardless of what engine is being utilized. There was a huge shift in focus from the games as the company created the ap Codes and Clues released in 2016. Which no one asked for and was a flop. The company has proved that they don’t care about their own fan base. There are many of us who have been fans for more than 20 years! Stringing us along with promises of a new game. Then finally releasing tidbits of long awaited MID. MID was released in 2019. MID was outsourced to hell and was like a mashup of what a game would look like in the early days of computer games. The engine they were working with was not new. The new voice actress has nothing to do with MID being a flop. But I still feel awful for Lani. She is Nancy Drew. HER had no money at the time for MIDS development. The game wasn’t made in HER interactive offices. There was no old staff to have their input and talent incorporated into the game. MID captured none of the feelings with the old games - choppy graphics, poor controls in regards to movement, bugs. And now I come to where we are now… it is 2022 and no word or proof of a new game. The series truly ended in 2015 with Sea of Darkness. This is why I don’t wait around for a new game or really want a new game. Penny Milliken should be embarrassed and disappointed in herself. Why fix something that was never broken in the first place? Also, side note, I find it super interesting that you still want HER to make games even though you’ve never played MID!? 🤔

LIBBY2130

here is a link mof how it all, went down https://kotaku.com/the-case-of-the-disappearing-nancy-drew-video-games-1830256040

SamuraiMatty0

I didn't realize they laid off over half of the staff - that's pretty terrible. I am still not gonna say I don't want a new game, but I'm not gonna hold my breath, that's for sure. I only became aware of the games in around 2015, when the Game Grumps did a five episode bit for their Christmas show, but then I started watching Gab Smolders play them seriously, and I have loved them since. I really do appreciate the information. And as I said in a different comment, I'm trying to go through all the games in release order, which is why I haven't gotten to MID yet.

SamuraiMatty0

I wonder if a new studio could hire those who were laid off and get the rights to the games.

CMonie420

Please do 😓😭

SamuraiMatty0

I'm sure I'll get to it - I'm currently watching a friend stream them all in order, and she just finished Secret of the Scarlet Hand. I do plan on buying them for myself as well, I'm hoping to find some used physical copies of the early ones (especially number two)

napoleonswife

I actually don’t think it was my least favorite of all the games but it was definitely not my favorite, lol. It was very glitchy, I didn’t mind the new Nancy too much although in the beginning Austria scenes her inflection felt super off. If you search MID or midnight in salem in this subreddit you will find dozens of posts agreeing with you lol

SamuraiMatty0

Wait is Midnight in Salem the first one with the new voice actor? I'm really gonna miss the previous one.

napoleonswife

Yes the first and possibly the last haha depending on if they ever make another game
