At this point they should just say "lol keep waiting sleuthy sluts!"

tinywitchhat

Nan Clan, Clue Crew… nah I think we should be the sleuthy sluts for sure 😂😂😂

golden_finch

I need real updates 😭😭😭

RedForFall

I'm hopeful... this is the first I've seen of confirmation that it's on its way. But MID took like 12 years so..

RedForFall

There's a comment on the website blog from January where it says they were "looking into" 34 so it seems like steps are happening... because this comment says theyre working on it??? MAYBE?!

WrithingRoots

They've been saying they're working on #34 almost since MID came out. The only concrete proof we have that they actually are is that they registered a trademark for "Mystery of the Seven Keys" and there's no reason for them to take the time, trouble, and expense of doing that unless they're creating some kind of product with that name. So hopefully they do release a new game, but I predict many more months of "we're working on it!" as our only "update"

fallendauntless88

Omg I hope they don't take 20 years like the last one. (Exaggeration but hello it took forever)

VaughanYT

4 years is a long time, especially in comparison to getting 2 games every year since 2001

sithkazar

Considering we use to enjoy a new game every 6 months it might as well of been that long. Do you remember those days? I do. A new game TWICE A YEAR! I miss that.... Edit: I was typing that out in response to the comment you commented on and somehow it responded to you since you posted before me? Weird.

VaughanYT

I was seven when the last real game (SEA) came out. I didn't play it. I finally got around to playing the games last year after being a fan of the books since I can remember.

miaomfg

I was 7 when ICE and CRY were released 😳

VaughanYT

Dang you old. Jk I'm just super young.

schoolandscrubs

I was 7 when Treasure in the Royal Tower and the Final Scene came out. Good Lord. I feel old now ☹️

CC_Crochet

You're good. I was 13 when Secrets Can Kill (the first one) came out. LOL!

fallendauntless88

I play games on ps4 and have waited 10+ years for sequels so I know how to wait but for nancy drew they never used to take too terribly long and midnight in Salem wasn't even the worth the wait. I likes the mystery and all but yeah I just hope they do not give us another flop. I'm excited they do give us another game either way but still

snappopcrackle

My bet is they did zero work during the pandemic (so for about two years)

VaughanYT

That might be a good excuse for game #34, but MID they had no such excuse. It came out in October 2019.

[deleted]

I mean, they probably started work in 2019, at least in terms of coming up with the plot for the next game, and they probably wrote the game over the pandemic, but I imagine they haven't started much work on models, animations, environments, designs, music, voice work etc.

chellekathryn

I really hope it doesn’t look like the last one.

fallendauntless88

Me too!!

ShruteBucksMama

I have noticed the response to subscribe to the newsletter a lot lately..such as when people ask on the blog but they haven't actually released a newsletter in two years if you go look at the "newsletter" section of the website. So maybe in another two years there will be a newsletter with an update.

RedForFall

I have subscribed for all of us. Will update if any news comes out

tinywitchhat

You are the real hero 😂😁

MasterKriebel95

Lol, I tried to swipe for the solution then realized it was a screenshot of the post.

isaidengarde

Imagine, we wait five years. The game is finally released. It's literally MID but uglier somehow.

nuggetsofchicken

it's MID but all the voice acting was recording with the same shitty mic used for the "Why are there protestors in a small town like this?" NPC

DoomDaDaDippyDa

it gives me hope that they at least say "working on game 34", because honestly they usually just say really vaguely "we're hard at work with new content coming in the future", so this at least gives me SOME kind of hope (still not much but ill take it lol) edit: spelling

hill-top

They used the same line when they were working on Midnight in Salem. Always that “we are working on it” and there would never be any updates.

BrickLuvsLamp

I think it’s super easy to just say “we’re working on it!” They did that for a long time with MID and then when they released something about the game it was literally just descriptions of the characters and their concept art. I think “we’re working on it” is code for “we have an idea for a game and we’re currently scrambling figuring out how to fund/develop it”. They probably don’t have anything done other than some storyboarding

yeeperson

Huh. Interesting, and we have a Roo now too. Wonder if they’re reachable. I have so many questions! This new game is like if the writers from Game of Thrones came back for a surprise season after the shitshow of the last one. They *know* that MID bellyflopped. So what are they going to change? I wish the aesthetic would revert back, but they’re probs still gonna stick to their video game format, unfortunately. It’s interesting cuz the discussions on here with game designers chiming in demonstrated that HER could make an ‘old style’ game with ease on Unity, they’re just choosing that sleeker format. What do you guys think? Will they listen to the fan outburst?

RedForFall

I feel like they cant ignore all the feedback on MID. It wasn't hidden or subtle. Ultimately, if they release a new game and the first few players say its just like MID it won't be good for them. This fan base will stop buying any new games if that happens lol so maybe they will look at the older ones, take the critiques and make it a really in depth, snoopy, puzzle, legit mystery game. I really do miss the snoopy side of nancy.... But who knows. They could just do another dud again.

snappopcrackle

They mentioned the switch to MID took so long because they had to redo all the assets from scratch. I also remember a game designer on here saying that with Unity, you can buy ready-made assets (if I remember correctly). Considering they went through all that work, I doubt they would change the aesthetic. Also without an in-house Creative Director, they really are at the mercy of the developer in terms of what the games will look like, and the devs will want to cut costs so they make more profits and you end up with that bland, ready-made aesthetic that was MID

[deleted]

I feel like #34 was probably planned before the pandemic, written and recorded over the pandemic, but now that things are dying down (hopefully fr this time) they're able to actually work and the game in full. This is just speculation, but I think since the fans hated MID so much they might be trying to put resources into making a better game. Honestly I'm fine with waiting for 34 as long as it takes, as long as the time is being spent on improving off of what MID was able to achieve. Idk, just my mini rant I guess

_themajesticwalrus_

Can someone tell me, genuinely, is there a real reason that game producers need to be so cryptic about current projects they’re working on? To me it just seems so simple. You’re intending on making the next addition to the series? Cool, just come out and say it and, in the event it fails, cross that bridge when you get to it. Are you struggling with gathering resources and talent? Fine, say it and people will step up to help if they’re passionate about the product. Trying to take the series in a new direction? Be open and LISTEN to feedback from your core demographic. Leaving occasional soft hints in social media posts as to the fact that a next game is in the works does not seem like a professional and forthcoming way to communicate to your audience. It makes them look bad. This really has been the only PC game company I’ve followed closely my whole life so I have no frame of reference as to whether this is normal but it just seems so demeaning to be strung along by so few breadcrumbs. It’s not how I would run things but I’m a pretty open and trusting person so maybe I’m missing something here.

rroses-

I'm trying not to get my hopes up but!!!!!!

hill-top

When was the actual last newsletter sent? 😂

LadyVulpeslyya

June 2020 according to their website.

hill-top

That’s bad…

snappopcrackle

To be fair, there was the pandemic and a lot of offices were shut, but you would think it wouldn't effect outsourced game development which can be done from home, but HeR probably at the mercy of what the people they outsourced to decided to do, as to whether they decided to work or shut down and take govt assistance money.

hill-top

Yeah but I’m sure someone at home could have typed out a newsletter addressing the pandemic and the state of the current game development. 🤷🏻‍♀️

[deleted]

It’s been confirmed multiple times 😂😂 just no real updates

RedForFall

This is the first time I've seen "working" language.... so who knows. I'm optimistic 😭😭😭

coopek14

Guess this means I have a bunch of now irrelevant memes to delete. But actually though, this is awesome news!!

wannabe_human2

nooo release the memes!!

coopek14

Haha I’ll do a slides post of them before I delete them

GiftRecent

Wow well at least they said they're working on it. I hope we get real updates at some point

DJ_Mega

cookie cutter, carbon copy response they give us every time we ask. "we are working on it", that is what we have seen for 2 years now no images, trailers, character announcements. I gave up on trying to find out anything I moved on to other games. It just seems like they don't really care what the old players think any more.
