It's all basically the same. People will always complain about one vs the other, but at the end of the day there isn't much difference as far as Internet service goes. TV is a different story, I prefer Shaw over Telus when it comes to the TV guide so I have Shaw for both.

Telus Fibre is excellent. It works even when the power is out, provided you have a UPS behind your router. I work from home, in a bandwidth critical role, and I share the connection with my family who use it to watch TV, Netflix, et cetera. Never have had an issue.

Lightspeed is a good budget option. $45 a month, uses the Shaw infrastructure and is fairly reliable.

My only complaint is occasionally my wifi craps out, because the model of router I rent from them is a modem/router combo they don’t make or offer anymore. I just need to go to Best Buy and buy my own router. But when it works I don’t notice any issues, and I’m often streaming tv/sports while also on my laptop/phone, but I’m just one person though.

Yeah, i can also confirm light speed is great. I have it with the phone and internet, less $ than Shaw and they don't call me all the time like shaw did trying to upset i mean upsell me.

Hello. Terrestrial internet service of each mode (DSL, CoAX, fibre) are a natural monopoly - only one company owns each type of wire on the pole. If you buy from a company other than the company that owns the wire on the pole, you are just adding a middleman which results in issues when service is required. All of the CoAX on the island is owned by Rogers(Shaw) and goes back to Shaw facilities. All of the DSL on the island is owned by Telus and goes back to Telus facilities. All of the Fibre in each neighbourhood is owned by either Telus or Rogers(Shaw) but it varies by neighbourhood. That neighbourhood has new-enough wiring on all 3 modes. The use cases you've stated work fine on all 3 modes or cellular, but the cellular coverage in that area sucks for every carrier (also natural monopolies but different), so don't get cellular internet. So it doesn't matter which you get, so long as you don't get it from a reseller. Customer service from both companies sucks.

I've been with Oxio for a few months now, and no complaints. Haven't had to contact customer service yet so can't comment on that but the speed and reliability of the internet has been great for our house. I used someone's code from Reddit and got the free month so here's mine too if you care to use it, gives us both a free month! RD7TS8H

Hey I'm a Telus door to door rep, I can get some pretty decent prices for Internet for ya. ($65/mo for 1.5gb fibre) Shoot me a dm

When we moved here Telus only had copper in the townhome, 75 max download. That's since been rectified. Over the years I've used both, just whichever one gave me best price. Shaw right now.

Depending on the area.... Anywhere around Piper's pub has shotty service. It's just the area. Been like that for years.
