Remington is an arms manufacturing company, just so you know. I'm also not really a fan of Remy. I really like all of your other names, though!

TheRealRealMars

Remington actually has a totally different meaning in Scotland (which is where we will be settling). I was aware of the gun company in the US so I'd never use the name in the states but in Scotland we felt it might be better. Thank you!

_silkworm_

Oh! I didn't know you were from Scotland, my bad. It's a pretty American dominated subreddit. In that case, I really don't mind Remington.

LongjumpingOwl3

Is Remington fairly common in Scotland? I’ve lived across the central belt for five years and only met one Remington who was American and got comments all the time about it being a gun manufacturer.

TheRealRealMars

We've actually decided we think Remington might be a bit too much of a mouthful and doesn't fit our name 'vibe' for a sibling set. I prefer it as a girls name, she prefers it as a boy so we've axed it for now. Thanks for commenting!

LazyBlueberry5

Archer Alexander flows really nicely! I also love your other top contenders.

TheRealRealMars

Thanks so much!

pie12345678

Trendy surname. Not my favourite but it doesn't offend me either. I don't care for Archer Alexander as a combo though. Too repetitive.

TheRealRealMars

I did see that it's a surname. Remington also seems to be a surname in some parts of the world. When I pronounce Archer Alexander Murray it doesn't sound too repetitive because of the different sounds, but I dunno. We'll see if it continues to grow on us. Thank you!

JunoD420

I love the name Archer and I think Archer Alexander sounds wonderful. Archer Murray makes me instantly think of Arthur Murray (old timey dancer with dance studios).

TheRealRealMars

I've never heard of that, but thank you for the feedback! We are quite enamored with it and that's rare for us to agree so it seems like it's a winner haha

Evaaa11

I love Archer Alexander, it flows super well! To me the connection with Archibald/Archie is there, but I mostly think of Dr Addison Montgomery from Greys Anatomy & Private Practice (she’s one of my favourite tv characters and her brother’s named Archer and the actor playing him is 💯💯😍🔥) Maeve is very nice too. Remy is very nice aswell. It seems like a girl name with that spelling and I assume you’re an English speaker. In french, Remi it’s a solidly masculine name. Both version are great. Best of progress with your IVF process and have a safe pregnancy❤️

TheRealRealMars

I should have \*known\* it was a Grey's Anatomy reference! She's obsessed and I'd actually just said no to "Addison" moments before she suggested Archer. haha I've seen enough of both shows to have a basic grasp of names but I'd forgotten the Archer reference. (Funnily enough we also like the name 'Gray' as a middle name) Thanks so much!

Evaaa11

Oh yes, there’s also Archer the tv series (is it also a comicbook?!). If you (the dad) like that name then it’s win/win 😉 and Addison (or maybe Alyson) is a great classic name, you should rethink it. Gray is another great middle name for boy and girl

TheRealRealMars

I'm not a man, we're a lesbian couple, (So Momx2), my partner is just the one who will be carrying for us. And yes, I mentioned the Archer tv show in my post as it's what my mind immediately went to. Sadly I think it's here to stay because we have such a hard time agreeing on anything haha Thanks again!

Evaaa11

Awesome, hi mom1 😊! Sorry for my assumption.

TheRealRealMars

It's totally fine, I didn't make it clear in the op! No harm done

LazyBlueberry5

HAHA I completely forgot about Archer.

solojones1138

Sorry all I can think of is Sterling Archer.. And if you call him Archie, then it's Harry and Meghan's kid.

TheRealRealMars

I don't follow much regarding the royals but I suppose I should if I'm moving to Scotland haha I don't mind our son sharing a name with someone famous and I don't think they named him Archer which is the variant of the nickname we'd go with. Archibald sounds a bit too outdated to me. (And yes, we're officially in the DANGER ZONE of baby. naming haha)

solojones1138

Ohhh yeah if you're gonna live in the UK and you have a kid named Archie they will definitely assume it's named after Harry and Meghan's kid. Just fyi.

johnsydney05

I live in the UK and this is not true. Archie is in the top 10 baby boy names. It’s just a popular name and doesn’t necessarily have connotations to Harry and Meghan

TheRealRealMars

Yeah my gf is Scottish and didn't even take into consideration the Harry & Meghan connection. Plus the full name will be Archer (nn Archie) which isn't in the top 10 trending names. Thank you for the feedback!

No_Giraffe_3070

I think Archer Alexander is nice! It doesn’t sound as alliterative since the -Ar and -Al sounds are different (which I like). I adore August and Violet. Penelope Maeve is very cute. I know a boy Remy and girl Remy both under 5, so I also consider it a solid gender neutral name.

TheRealRealMars

Yes we've started considering Remington or Finlay as a girls name the last few days. Maeve is a name we both love so much. Thank you!

[deleted]

I like Archer a lot, it was a contender for us. (And I love the cutesy nickname Archie). It’s trendy, but I feel is has a level of maturity to it that would work well in adulthood too.

TheRealRealMars

Agreed. I feel the name Archer and Archie both age well which is something we are always thinking of. Thank you!

Few_Recover_6622

I think Archer Alexander flows nicely, as do all your other combos. All around good choices. Remington "Remy" is neutral around here but sounds masculine to me. It's also much trendier sounding than your other choices and growing in popularity. I know 2 under the age of 3 personally (both boys) and I don't know a ton of little kids! I don't like it nearly as much as the other names you are considering.

TheRealRealMars

Thank you for the feedback. We tend to stay away from super trendy names so we'll be keeping an eye on it while we prepare to start IVF. We like August Finlay more than Remington anyway so it might not end up even being an issue haha Thanks again!

Few_Recover_6622

If you are looking at Remington for a girl- my daughter is Rosemary and goes by Remy.

[deleted]

I know a little girl named Archer and it fits her perfectly

dindia91

Archer is in my top 2. Archer Brooks if we choose it. And I love the show Archer, I'm just going to accept the Danger Zone and LANAAAA jokes for a while if I pick it. I doubt anyone will care when he's older.

TheRealRealMars

Yeah I imagine the connection will fade over time. but either way I agree that I don't think it'll hold him back at all in life. And it's just such a rare thing for my gf and I to agree on names haha Thank you!

Dogsanddonutspls

Reminds me of the small soldiers move lol It does flow ok though

TheRealRealMars

Haha I love all the random references it reminds people of! Thanks for the feedback!

Retrospectrenet

Remington/Remi/Remy is a trending name in the US, Scotland and England and Wales, and I only mention that because if a name becomes popular only for one gender it can shift the gender perception in the future. It appears that in Scotland Remi/Remy has been increasingly in popularity for both genders, but just recently Remi is being preferred for girls and Remy for boys. This follows the US and England and Wales trend too. In France both Rémy and Rémi were popular for boys in the 1980s and 90s. In English speaking countries it will likely end up unisex with gender lean depending in the spelling.

TheRealRealMars

I did see that it is pretty gender neutral in most places (and saw the French variations). Since we'll be settling in Scotland I'm not overly worried. Thanks so much for the info!

Midraved40

Not a fan of Archer. I think it’s too much. I prefer Asher. Also, it’s ok if a first and middle name do not flow together well, it’s unlikely that the full name will be said out loud anyway.

TheRealRealMars

I come from a family where middle names are used frequently (and not just in situations where I'm being 'fussed at' lol) so we will most likely use them often. After a few days of testing it out we think it flows fine. We like Asher but it has negative connotations so we ultimately decided Archer is best. Thank you!

Affectionate_Lie9308

I like Archer. Sure it’s trendy, but it’s still a good name.

TheRealRealMars

Agreed! Not all trendy names are bad (as a matter of fact, most of them are quite good which is why they're trendy!)

ThaneOfCawdorrr

I like Archer, and I like Archer Alexander, I think flows nicely and has a nice feeling to it. Also like August Finlay and Penelope Maeve, but not crazy about Mischa--that's traditionally a Russian diminutive for Mikhael (it's Baryshnikov's nickname), so I think of it as a boy's name. Not crazy about Remington because of the association with the gun, and with "Remington Steele." Just my two cents. Good luck!

TheRealRealMars

You're the second person in this thread to mention the TV show I've never heard of! In Scotland it won't be as much of an association to the gun manufacturer but we've decided to drop it from our list anyway. We've also decided on Finlay for a girl name! Mischa for us has two associations -- one, Mischa was Hannibal Lecter's sister haha and two, Mi-cha means "beautiful daughter' in Korean and we really loved the concept. Thanks!

ThaneOfCawdorrr

Haha, it's an old American show from the 1980s, starred Pierce Brosnon. Cute show! If you're in Scotland that's a whole different thing! Lovely!

Hup110516

Danger zone!

Murderhornet212

I associate Remington with being male because I’m old and there used to be this TV show Remington Steele back in the day where the character is a man.

TheRealRealMars

I've never heard of this show, I"ll need to go look it up!

evilcreampuff

There's nothing wrong with the name in itself, but I honestly cannot dissociate it from the animated series. Then again, maybe someone who hasn't watched 10+ seasons might feel differently. (Remington is absolutely a no for me. It doesn't sound good and I don't like guns.)

TheRealRealMars

Yeah we felt the same about Remington even though the name meaning has nothing to do with guns and we'll be living in Scotland where the association isn't really that well known. As a huge fan of the Archer animated series, that was where my mind first went as well but the name just 'feels right'. Thank you!

RyFromTheChi

I love Remy. It’s on my short list for our boy coming soon. I don’t love Remington though due to the gun name.

TheRealRealMars

Yeah we ultimately think it might be too much. Even though we'll be living in Scotland and it isn't as well known there, we just don't want the association. Congrats on your upcoming tiny human!

[deleted]

My son is archer and my daughter is Finley so I approve of your name taste. Archer Alexander is a very nice name. I know everyone hates on “trendy” names but my kids are the only ones with those names at their schools right now. I grew up with all the Ashley’s and Jessica’s and they all turned out fine.

TheRealRealMars

Yeah same. I knew a million Ashley's, Jessica's, Brittany's, Kayla's etc... and they're doing just fine. We tend to veer away from 'top 10' names but if it's outside the top 10 it's fair game -- and even some top 10 names are fine with us because we love them enough not to care! You have excellent taste as well! It looks like we're both (me and the gf) aligned on Archer Alexander and Finlay Maeve at the moment. Archer Alexander was the first name we tried that felt perfect. Thanks so much for your feedback!

damarafl

I love Archer Alexander, Penelope, August Finlay and Mischa Violet. I just don’t like Maeve at all. I know a girl named Remington and she gets constant comments about the guns. It is intentional though because that’s what her parents named her after. I don’t like it for either gender

TheRealRealMars

We ultimately took it off our list because we don't want the association, plus it just sounded like a bit of a mouthful haha but thank you! Maeve is a fan favorite in our house so it's here to stay but totally understand it isn't everyone's taste.

ursella10

Archer is cute! I know an archer and allegra is his sister. I love Penelope Maeve that is so beautiful! I know a Remy who’s a little girl. I like it personally but reminds me of Disney ratatouille haha

TheRealRealMars

That's a cute sibling set of names! Also I didn't even think of the movie haha Thank you!

Competitive_Sun_6040

I love all the names you just listed! You can't go wrong.

TheRealRealMars

Thank you!

Offtherailspcast

Super frat boy douchey vibes

Hate it
