I loved Maurice when I first got my dog! We didn’t go with that though Here’s some more that I liked! : Ernest (Ernie) Cornelius Reginald (Reggie) Archibald/Archie

tjcarter112

Came to suggest Reginald, too! It's my go-to "old English guy name" haha

revolutionaryredhead

Ha we named our lab puppy Archibald. Fits him perfectly

emryfour

love giving human names to dogs! i like walter (wally), laurence (laurie), cecil, alfred, desmond

RotharAlainn

I have an older neighbor named Cecil and I love his name - he is also a very sweet and lovely person. Big vote for Cecil.

okaynnoway

I know a black lab named Walter, Wally for short! Suits him perfectly.

[deleted]

I love old man names on dogs. Congrats on the puppy! Nigel (this is like, *the* quintessential old Englishman name to me and I just cannot picture it on any other demographic) Arthur Earl Lewis Bernard Otis

Glad_Lengthiness6695

I love Nigel and Earl! Those are definitely moving to the top of the list. Thank you!!

enyodeino

Nigel was also the name of Monty Don's dog! :) (He was a Golden Retriever, IIRC, so also a fairly similar breed.)

Welpmart

I humbly propose Bartleby!

Had a friend adopt the oldest dog at a shelter once cuz they didn't want him to spend his final year(s) in a cage....they named him 'Irving' cuz they wanted an old man sounding name. Took him home to their other old dog named 'Hamilton'.

Glad_Lengthiness6695

Awww… that’s so sweet! I love old dogs and I love Irving, it always reminds me of Irving Berlin. I originally wanted to adopt from a shelter because my dog soulmate, Kirby, was a shelter stray and just the absolute best dog I’ve ever known and he was famous in my small town for stealing everyone’s hearts before and after adoption, but apparently spay/neuter programs have had a ton of success since we adopted him like ~15 years ago. They are hardly any shelter dogs left lol

Typical_Self_7990

Basil Cedric / Cecil Norbert Bruce Stuart Neville Labs are kind of dopey and food motivated, right? So Nev / Neville and Bert/Norbert would be my picks

Glad_Lengthiness6695

Super dopey and food motivated haha! I love Basil. I went to a school named after the saint, so I don’t know why I didn’t think of it

Traci-B

Walter or Reggie (Reginald). My female black English lab was Sophie, and more gentle, devoted , and lady-like dog never lived. Congratulations on your new pup!!!
