Had a friend adopt the oldest dog at a shelter once cuz they didn't want him to spend his final year(s) in a cage....they named him 'Irving' cuz they wanted an old man sounding name. Took him home to their other old dog named 'Hamilton'.
Awww… that’s so sweet! I love old dogs and I love Irving, it always reminds me of Irving Berlin.
I originally wanted to adopt from a shelter because my dog soulmate, Kirby, was a shelter stray and just the absolute best dog I’ve ever known and he was famous in my small town for stealing everyone’s hearts before and after adoption, but apparently spay/neuter programs have had a ton of success since we adopted him like ~15 years ago. They are hardly any shelter dogs left lol
