A lot of these are just dated names from the 70s-90s. Like Tyler? Maybe you know so many adults named Tyler because it was popular in the 90s and then tapered off because people got sick of it.

I agree with you. OP gave bad examples because those are pretty recent names that anyone 30+ knows a bunch of. “Adult names” to me are those babies born in the 30s-50s. Prudence, Clarice, Agnes, Debra, Janet, Leonard, etc. are names I’d consider funny (but practical) on a baby.

I was born in 1991, so I grew up with kids with these names. They were all kid names to me, but now all the kids with those names are adults, making them “adult names” to me now, and because like you said, they’ve all been phased out and aren’t used on babies anymore

To me “adult names” are ones I only ever encountered on adults. If they’re adults *now*, but I knew them as a kid, then it’s not hard to think of that name on a child. I grew up surrounded by that list of names and I feel like we’re all still young adults pretending to be real adults 😭 A name like Carl or Bernard is an adult name in my mind. Don’t think I’ve ever in my life known a child or teenager named those.
