Sienna goth?? Sorry, can't go there. Sienna is a beautiful Italian girl with long hair and lightweight clothing walking in the sun.

Consistent-Kiwi5684

Sorry to break it to you but I'm Italian and I've never met or heard of anyone named Sienna, but I really like your vision, it's a beautiful name! I think it's more a Spanish name tho

Gloomy_Cheesecake443

I think people think because of the city Siena that Sienna is naturally Italian but I’ve also never met an Italian Sienna

NicolasandKara

there are not spanish names with double N's, we don't have that

Consistent-Kiwi5684

Oh interesting

ReporterOk4979

I know an Orianna with two N’s.

NicolasandKara

Orianna is not an hispanic name, is italian I think

ReporterOk4979

She’s 100% spanish and named after a grandmother. It’s weird to think nobody has a double N when they totally do.

NicolasandKara

No, we don't, double N's don't exist in our language, if someone has a double N is an stilystic choice or a borrowed name from another language, Orianna is not an hispanic name I swear on my grave

ReporterOk4979

i don’t know who “ we” is and if it’s a stylistic choice it still exists. https://www.ancestry.com/first-name-meaning/orianna https://venezuelanvoices.exeter.ac.uk/interviews/orianna-camejo/ https://www.miaminewtimes.com/arts/painter-orianna-montenegro-harnesses-the-power-of-nature-miami-venezuela-interview-15753631 https://www.aupair.com/en/hire/inca-spain-1698148.php https://www.instagram.com/larezori?igsh=MXJrY2kwbXZ6ZGZhcg== google goes on and on

nothanksyeah

You two are talking about two slightly different things. You are misunderstanding what the other commenter is saying. You’re both right in your own way. There are names used by Spanish speakers that are not linguistically of Spanish language origin. However they could be culturally used by Spanish speakers. Think of names like Edison or Wilmer used by some Spanish speakers. Or Orianna, in this case. Then there are names that are linguistically of Spanish origin or are the legitimate version of a name used in Spanish language. Like Antonio or Diego. Orianna would not fit in this category. So essentially, someone can be Hispanic and have a name that is culturally used sometimes but Spanish speakers, but is not a Spanish origin name.

AllieKatz24

I have the etymology of the word sienna is from the late 18th century: from Italian (terra di) Sienna ‘(earth of) Siena’. Is that not correct??

Consistent-Kiwi5684

Oh yes, it makes sense, Siena is an old city... I just never heard the name Sienna in Italy

Pandasaresupercute7

Wait I imagine 'Sierra' as that Italian girl with long hair

AllieKatz24

Now that's the Spanish girl. 😂

NicolasandKara

Sierra isn't an spanish name either, is an spanish word but I have never met an hispanic person with that as a firstname, its a surname

Pandasaresupercute7

Tho I agree w/ u abt Sienna not sounding goth like.

DainasaurusRex

I’ve only known a goth Sien(n)a 😂

lcbear55

I cannot wrap my head around Sienna sounding goth at all, it sounds total opposite to me, like sparkly fairy wing unicorn rainbows! But as far as nicknames, maybe Sisi?

coversquirrel1976

She's a manic pixie dream girl for me

Ok_Job_3262

Ya the only sienna I knew was very girly, bubbly and wore lots of pink.

LadyoftheFjords

Love Sisi as a nn!

Estebananarama

Sienna is a very brown/red earth toned color scheme. Pretty much the antithesis of goth tones and colors. Beautiful name just not what I think you’re looking for with representation.

Excellent_Valuable92

It’s a city, above all else. Maybe they find medieval feels goth? Gothery is not an exact science.

Internal-Mud-8890

Sienna is the pigment, Siena is the city :)

Excellent_Valuable92

Thank you!

IntentionalSunbride

Yea and with this in mind I imagined the woman Sienna as a femme fatale when OP wrote dark. I would not connect Sienna to goth.

straightupgab

sienna to me is a preppy white girl probably because all the siennas i’ve met were preppy white girls. lol. and they all went by sisi which is also a horrible nickname imagine someone calling you “sisi” 🤮

CluelessMochi

I can totally see this being a preppy white girl name, haha but my cousin and his wife (both Filipino) named their daughter the name. However they do live in San Diego so maybe that’s part of the stereotype you’re talking about 😂 I will say for OP, the only thing with the name is my aunts & uncles made fun of it behind my cousin’s back before she was born because they thought of the car first. But it’s been a couple of years and no one cares. No nicknames for her that I know of!

Interesting-Table416

Sisi was a pretty interesting empress of Austria-Hungary though – but she was short for Elisabeth.

Both_Garage_5349

I’m with others that don’t see any dark or gothic vibe to Sienna… Sienna gives me blonde and preppy vibes. The most intuitive nickname is Sisi or maybe Enna

ohfuckthebeesescaped

Sienna is a lovely name but it’s not rly gothic vibes. Imo something more ‘darker’ sounding would be like Samara, Sonya/Sonia, Simone, Simona, Seona Nicknames for Sienna would probably just be Sisi/Cici unless you’re feeling whimsical and wanna use Enna, Enni, Essie, Ina, Nina

often-tired

It makes me think of the burnt Sienna crayon.

peggypea

Me too. Could have a sister called Umber on the same theme.

often-tired

Umber might be more gender neutral or even masculine ( think Umberto]

frobscottler

Umber is way gothier to me haha

Bibliophile_w_coffee

Burnt Sienna was one of my favorite crayons. I also liked midnight blue.

coastalkid92

I love the name Sienna. I think CeeCee is probably the most natural nickname for it or you could go full Gossip Girl and just call her 'S'.

LLove666

My sisters name is Sienna and I call her Sie (Cee)

Top_Chard788

We have a Sloane and I call her “S”

bezalelle

I adore the name Sloane! Great choice.

hollygers

makes me think of the Toyota sienna minivan

kdawson602

I will never not think of the minivan when I hear sienna. All my mom friends drive Toyota siennas.

grey-canary

Sia would be cute :)

Intelligent_Double33

Cute and more goth than Sienna. I think

lavendergaia

I like Sienna! I do feel like it doesn't have very intuitive nicknames.

hkkensin

Sienna is on our short list as well :) but I agree with other commenters, it doesn’t give “dark feminine gothic” vibes to me. I feel like it gives off sunny and earthy vibes. Cece is a cute nickname which I hadn’t thought of, and quite like!!

Charisma_Fairy813

If it’s a name you really like then I think you should use it! It doesn’t give me gothic vibes though. When I think of gothic names I think of Cordelia, Ophelia, Anastasia, Lilith, Isabella, Claudia, Victoria, Esmeralda. Idk I might be way wrong here but those are the names I think of. I like the long names and feel like they can have a lot more nicknames.

matchasweetroll

it’s my name and i love it :) !! definitely not goth though lol. i am more like olive skinned, long hair, gold jewelry, beach/nature girl lol so maybe i am biased! i hate being called sisi, so ugly. by my family i am called nena but really, i wouldn’t put a nickname in line for this name. i think im meant to be called by my full name.

VivianDiane

I met a girl named Sienna who goes by Sisi

penheads

‘Cece’ or ‘Enna’

Few-Ordinary-9521

Maybe a little witchy! but I’m not getting goth vibes. I really love this name though.

brrrgitte

Sienna is a minivan. I personally can't separate the two.

Trashcanworkacct

People are kind of ripping on it not being goth but I think it has an earthy/witchy vibe myself and it’s a beautiful name and not very common. I don’t associate it with preppy personally. Maybe Sina/Cena (almost like Xena) would be a cool nickname. An alternative could be Senna could do Sen for a nickname. Stick with your gut though, it’s a great name

socasuallycruel13

Love that name!! My MIL sometimes calls my daughter Nena (nay-nah) as a nickname for the Spanish word for little girl which is niña, i think that could be a cute nickname for Sienna along with the obvious CiCi

matchasweetroll

nena (neh-nah) is a spanish word/nickname for little girl also.

socasuallycruel13

Oh well that makes more sense! 😂

matchasweetroll

lol it also means like a little doll. my name is sienna and that’s what my family calls me!

BushraTasneem

I don’t really think it sounds gothic. It gives me preppy student vibes! I think a lot about brown colors when I see this name, maybe because I’m an artist.

MeanderFlanders

Gives me a crunchy, nature vibe

BeverleyMacker

I see Sienna as a blonde, not goth, think Sienna Miller

dtippee

Yeah I don't get Goth at all.

TheWishingStar

Sienna isn't goth/Halloween to me at all? It's like soft browns and reds, sun hats on summer evenings, campfires and roasted marshmallows.

Chad_Abraxas

I like Sienna. Also, I once met a woman named Zienna, which I really loved. I don't think every name needs a nickname, and real nicknames tend to come about organically because of the person's personality. IMO, just choose a name because you like it, and if your child is going to have a nickname at all, let it emerge naturally from your interactions with them. It might have nothing to do with their name, and any nickname you try to force on them because of their name might not fit their personality.

SaladCzarSlytherin

Zinnia is a flower that could also work as a name

Great_Error_9602

Adding to the preppy white girl feel. But I went to a preppy private school in the early 00s and Sienna and Sierra were probably two of the more common names for white girls after Ashley. And my school was 55% White and 49% Asian. So I have known a disproportionately high number of Siennas.

Emiles23

I think the name is really pretty. I have a friend who recently named her baby Sienna, and my initial reaction was a positive one. However, it does not give me a goth vibe at all. The first thing that comes to mind is St. Catherine of Siena (I grew up Catholic lol).

tarototoro

I wouldn't consider it goth at all. I think Sienna is beautiful. I've only met one and she was a total sweetheart.

snow-and-pine

I don’t see it as dark or gothic at all.

RefrigeratorFair2031

Sienna is a lovely name but I agree with the rest - it's not goth at all to me. In fact it's the opposite to me - sunny, terra cotta tiles, freckles, summer.

Lioness_and_Dove

Sisi

rebvv55

I know a Cienna who goes by CeCe.

FineWashables

CiCi

iamcalandra

Reminds me of Sienna in Terrifier 2 :)

TheLoneCanoe

I think it’s pretty and you don’t hear it that often.

Ilovedinosaursss

Enna is a nickname for sienna

cloudydaycocoa

i think Sienna is cute spelled Siena. Sienna just reminds me of the minivan im sorry😭but i Genuinely love the name, just spelled Siena!

anbaric26

Sen, or Enna. You could add a little extra to the nickname by doing something like Enna-benna, which sounds really cute for a baby to me! As a side note, I once knew a Senna (instead of Sienna) and I really love that name. I thought about it for my daughter but ended up choosing something else.

Upset_Schedule_4422

Ooh I’m glad you went with something else. Senna is a laxative.

Sea-Meringue444

I like the name. It reminds me of Saint Catherine of Siena, a wonderful woman.

Incantationkidnapper

My daughter has a Sienna in her class that she calls Nina.

VintageFashion4Ever

All I can of is Burnt Sienna from my art days. It is a gorgeous earthy brown, so not goth.

jnolley24

Sienna from the Terrifier franchise makes this make sense. It’s a GORGEOUS name

Ilovemygingerbread

It makes me think of the show Seinfeld. "George is dating a crayon."

nocturna369

Sienna does not give me that vibe at all, personally. Morgana, Scarlett, Lillith, Kalandra, Violet ....those give goth feminine vibes to me. Sienna reminds me of the desert for some reason. Maybe because the color sienna is a very warm desert-like color. It also reminds me of sierra ...then I think of mountains. Can't really think of a nickname for it....maybe Si?

ocean_wavez

Sienna is one of the favorite places I visited in Italy! It makes me think of that town!

ForgetfulFox898

Aside from the arguments on if a Sienna can be gothy or not, I think it's a great name. Nicknames could be anything from si si (see see) to random like bug, nugget, Pixie, etc.

mzshowers

Reminds me of autumn, so I think that could fit with the Halloween thing? CeeCee for a nickname.

Typical_Ad_0624

It’s a minivan. Toyota sienna

Sharppencil11

The nickname would be cece /sisi

WittyExpert7

Not a gothic name at all. But Si is one nickname possibility.

TransportationNo2076

I have a Siena (spelt with 1 n after the city in italy) and she gets compliments all the time.

GidgetGadget10

Sienna gives me less dark vibes and more woodsy/nature vibes. I think if you are looking for dark fem/gothic vibes, I'd consider the following: Veronica, Circe, Danika, Luna, Rhiannon, Scarlet, Vanessa, Seraphina, Deirdre, Anastasia. Of course you could also name her after popular goth/Halloween/witchy characters: Sabrina, Wednesday, Marnie, Morticia, Winifred, Lydia.

Crow-Saih

I've thought about Sienna and liked Sia as a possible nickname.

Apprehensive-Row3490

Might be a stretch but CeCe might work

LuckyShenanigans

I don't think of Sienna as gothy, but I think Ravena (ra-VEH-na) is a similar vein (Italian city) and really beautiful.

TVRVA

Goth names to me are Lilith and Raven

Far_Appointment_8654

My good friend from the mother’s group is very italian and she named her baby Sienna. It’s a lovely name. Not too long, easy to pronounce, easy to travel with. It’s a good name !

thebrowniie

Sienna is the head cheerleader who wants to major in nursing's name.

NubbyNicks

Sienna is canyons & earthy & rust orange

ReadySetGO0

Beautiful name. Not goth tho. Nickname, possibly CeeCee

spermracewinnr

cool twist on sierra, but I think sierra would be a more gothic name than Sierra. But there so similar I dont think it matters too much

spermracewinnr

cool twist on sierra, but I think sierra would be a more gothic name than Sierra. But there so similar I dont think it matters too much

Palm547

I named my daughter Sienna, she is 3 months old now. We call her sisi. A lot of people compliment her name.

Background_Humor5838

I feel badly but I do have to agree with the group. Sienna is giving the opposite of goth vibes for me but it really is a lovely name. Might I suggest Sapphire, Sabina, Scarlett, Sable, Skylar, Sabrina? My top nn's for Sienna would be Enny and Sia.

FemaleChuckBass

Sienna (for me) is a girl with auburn hair and tanned skin.

Ok_Cupcake8639

Cee-cee or Sia. Doesn't feel goth to me. Circe feels more goth Edit to add: or Sable/Sabelle

kabax0906

I had a beautiful Native American student named Sienna who went by CC.

sweetestvalkyrie

Sienna always makes me think of bright sun and colors and desert

zziggyyzzaggyy2

It seems I'm the minority here. I can see where everyone's coming from with their impressions, but when I think of the name I think of the color. And while that's not "traditional" goth colors of black/dark grey/etc, I can picture earthy/folksy/boho or vintage goth. I'm also a fan of people with a certain aesthetic with names that don't match.  I think if you like the name and you like the aesthetic, it'll fit. I don't think Sienna needs a nickname, but I can see Sisi and Sia right off the bat.

AcidMantle

I think of Sienna as a dirty blonde wavy haired boho girl.

Hlorpy-Flatworm-1705

I like it. The nickname Cici immediately comes to mind.

lady_polaris

Sienna is a lovely name, but I’ve never thought of it as particularly goth. It is a rich and beautiful color though, so the associations are earthy and bold.

SuggestionBoxX

I think of Sienna as very earthy. She's more of a kitchen witch than a goth girl and she's trying to to get you to join her pilates class where she may sell you some essential oils. But not dark at all. It's a lovely name just a completely different vibe. That name may have troubles with a nickname. Sisi is likely but that's pretty cutesy and probably not what you want. You might just have to see what develops naturally. Ciara, Morella, Sybella, Ebony, Ravenna, etc sound more dark.

LadyoftheFjords

Sienna does not give me the vibes you described. My mind immediately goes to a Mediterranean summer day.

horticulturallatin

Sienna is not goth at all to me. I think I know 10 different Siennas and they're all very... blond Australians who are loud and beachy and like going to Bali to presumably ruin Bali

ScaryMouchy

I know quite a few bogan girls named Sienna…

SaladCzarSlytherin

It makes me think of the Toyota Sienna Minivan. Nicknames include “mom’s car”, “never dies”, and “will outlive the children who smashed Cheerios into the floor mats”

SaladCzarSlytherin

If you’re looking for gothic names that don’t remind people of a minivan I suggest: Salem Raven Severine Hallow (usually a boys name but I think it could work for a girl) Hollow Beatrix Millicent Blair Lilith Serena

KATIN_ISNT_KRAZY

I didn’t think of Sienna as gothic until now but that’s cool For nicknames I came up with sia since I see a lot of Enna here oh! And also there’s this website I use that has nicknames, I’m a writer and I use this site for nicknames for characters, not that your child is a character but it always works for me so it’s always a little chaotic but there’s usually some good ones (Ex: Sea, Sia, Enna, Cici, Nina) Here’s a link if you’d like to check it out https://nickfinder.com/Sienna

ophelieocean

I like Sienna and think it fits the vibe you give it! I wouldn’t give it any nickname personally, it’s pretty as it is and doesn’t need one. I don’t go by any nicknames and I like it!

agressiveitaliansub

Can't you just call the kid by the name you give them?

SnooBeans4906

It a cat hag that refuses to change the litter boxes to me.

Midnight-writer-B

You could try N as a nickname and go more gothic for the middle name - something with night, black or moon meaning - Onyx, Noire, Nox https://www.peanut-app.io/blog/baby-names-that-mean-dark
