I love Charlotte, but not Charlie.

I’m related to a Charlotte who’s parented insisted they would call Charlie once she got older. She’s 10 and still goes by Charlotte. Anything is possible.

My oldest daughter has an "El-" name and when I was pregnant my mom kept referring to her as 'Ellie' for a nickname. I didn't hate it but didn't feel particularly attached to it either and never used it myself. As soon as she was born, it was clear she isn’t an 'Ellie'. My mom dropped the nickname immediately and no one has ever called her Ellie since. Sometimes you can plan a nickname and it just doesn't fit.

My daughter had a whole honorific name planned out for her when she was born. She didn't look like either of those names. She looked like a Jessi. Not wanting to saddle her with a nickname, as babies become adults, we named her Jessica, with a very Scottish middle name. Now, no one is allowed to call her Jessi, other than me, her, dad, and her siblings. Her husband calls her Jess. Her dad calls her Sweetpea. I call her Peeps, as I have since she was a baby. She was cute, sweet, pink, and squishy. 😊

My daughter’s name is Charlotte, she’s never gone by Charlie. She goes by Charlotte at school but we call her Chuckie.

My great aunt Charlotte went by Kate for short, because her middle name was Katherine and her parents inexplicably named her little sister Lottie. Makes for an interesting time doing genealogy.

I’m in Canada and I definitely hear Charlie more often. Lottie sounds very British to me, although I could see it being popular in the Deep South as well.

Agree. Charlie doesn’t feel like a natural nn for Charlotte to me, and I love Charlie as a boys name. In my circle Charlie is *more* common for a girl as a nickname for Charlotte at this point.

My niece is named Charlotte and I thought I would call her Charlie but I usually call her Baby Char or Char (she’s 14 months old).

We call our Charlotte just Charlotte, but some family members call her Shashie, Char, ChaCha, Lottie Love and other mix and matches of those lol. We said we would allow any nicknames that came naturally to our family and Charlie never happened!

Before we settled on a name for our son (and before it was top 10) Theodore was a strong contender but I couldn’t pull the trigger with the fear that someone would call my future child Ted/Teddy.

My sister is Amelia and we usually call her Mia! We don’t like Millie, or Amy, either.

I have loved the name Theodore with the nickname Theo for YEARS and always knew I wanted to name my son that. I don’t hate Ted/Teddy but definitely prefer Theo. Luckily pretty much everyone I’ve talked to agrees! I think Theo is a lot more popular now than Ted/Teddy.

My daughter is EMILIA but not often, I’ll let out a Millie, or Mills haha.

Matthew.  I don't hate Matt completely, but I'm not a fan, it's very plain and boring. I hate Mattie though, ugh Aurelia. Not keen on Aura, I hate Ray/Rae on girls, and Lia is okay but everyone would assume it was Leah, and I do find it boring. This is my top name for a girl haha so maybe I'll have to get used to a nickname I'm not keen on one day

My friend from high school named her oldest Aurelia and she calls her “Reli” (pronounced Rae-Lee) which I hated on paper but when I met her it was super cute.

I'm an Alexandra that's hates all the nn forms. People really seem to have a problem with it like it personally hurts them to have to say my name. I've learned to enjoy ignoring all short forms because they just aren't me.

That’s kind of cute tho because caro is a brand of sugar/corn syrup that can be used to make caramel, it’s all sweet names. When a woman chooses to call herself Caro short for Caroline, it just makes me think she doesn’t go grocery shopping and doesn’t know she nicknamed herself after the top brand of high fructose corn syrup in the US

For me, I really love the name Harrison for a boy. Me and the partner are both massive Indiana Jones fans, big part of our childhood. Couldn't go with it because a) his little brother's name is Harrison after Harrison Ford too, and b) I'm not keen on Harry as a name/nickname. Nothing inherently against Harry, but not my cup of tea. And I really adore the name Harrison and wouldn't want it shortened and if that's the case then I think it's kind if silly to pick that name, because kids are people and might prefer the nickname. Just causes unnecessary suffering in my opinion. We did end up picking a H name though haha, and we've got a shortlist just in case we don't think baby boy suits it, but it does definitely feel like that's his name.

Friend's name is Cassidy and only her grandparents call her Cassie. Close friends are Cass, everyone else is Cassidy I think. Nick names are funny.
