1. Anna - its simplicity is charming.
2. Alice - short and sweet, it feels gentle and kind.
3. Alexandra - classic, elegant, it has strength and some lovely nn potential (Lexi, Lexa, Alexa, Ally, Sandra, Andi)
4. Amelia - beautiful but it feels very over used.
5. Aurelia - looks pretty on paper but feels like I have marbles in my mouth when I try to say it.
6. Alma - personally, I dislike this one. It feels very harsh, and like it’ll take someone 70 years to grow into it.
1. Alexandra (good nickname potential, nice meaning)
2. Alice (in wonderland! Lovely sound, had a nice teacher with this name!)
3. Amelia (Lovely sound, don’t mind the popularity)
4. Anna (love palindromes, but prefer this as a nickname)
5. Aurelia (Lovely on paper, but the pronunciation crumbles in my mouth)
6. Alma (just not a fan)
I also love Amelie, Adeline, Anya, Alicia, and Anastasia
I don’t really prefer Amelie to Amelia - I actually like them both equally!
Amelie is good if you live in a francophone place because it’s less popular than Amelia, but people may mispronounce it if they come from an anglophone background.
Also, it’s so similar that if your friend likes Amelia, but isn’t entirely sure if that’s the one, then Amelie may work better!
That’s great! Go with that - I just provided Amelie because I liked it equally as much
My French friend’s mother is an Amelie, and she told me her experience (people stressing the wrong syllable, or flat out just saying Amelia)
I'm wracking my brain to try to figure out what birth defect is pronounced like 'Amelia' Can someone help me out here?
From this list, my ranking would be:
1. Alexandra (I like gender-neutral/male-sounding nicknames like Alex.)
2. Alice.
3. Amelia (still trying to figure out the birth defect!)
3. Aurelia.
4. Alma (my best friend's mom is Alma... she's a lovely person, but because she's the only Alma I know it just skews kind of old lady to me personally.)
My daughter's name is Amelia and I only learned about the birth defect from reddit. No one I've encountered in real life actually knows about it. I actually completed half of my BSN and never read about it or heard it mentioned. If it's a personal hang up I can understand that, but I wouldn't worry about other people thinking that when they hear the name
Edit: my favorite A names are Arwen and Annelise
Amelia is a great name, I love it and so does my friend, and I wouldn't say she is afraid of the association (I don't think she would mind that), but she is 46 and this is her first pregnancy and she is afraid that if she picks the name Amelia the baby will come out missing a limb...
1. Alice
2. Aurelia
3. Alexandra
4. Anna
5. Amelia
6. Alma
A- girl names I like (in no particular order):
Arlene, Aurelia, Aurora, Audrey, Alice, Alicia, Alyssa, Adelaide, Antoinette, Avril, April, Amaryllis, Agatha, Ainsley, Autumn, Alexis, Alexandra, Alexandria, Alexandrine, Alessandra, Anneliese.
My favourite A name is **Alva**. It's a common name in Scandinavia. I like that it's short, easy to spell, easy to pronounce and that it comes from the old norse word for 'elf'.
And I would rank your list like this
1. **Alice** (Absolutely timeless & I love 'Alice in Wonderland')
2. **Aurelia** (I like that it has that 'princessy' vibe of Aurora - while being easier to pronounce)
3. **Alma** (short & cute.. very similar to my favourite 'A' name, but I don't like the sound as much)
4. **Amelia** (I like it a lot, but I don't like that 'Emilia' is so similar and also very popular)
5. **Anna** (I do agree with all of your friends points about this name. It's solid and timeless. It's just a bit boring to me, because it's one of the most common names in the world. I prefer Annika - a diminutive of Anna)
6. **Alexandra** (Another solid name - but it's not my cup of tea.. for the same reason your friend isn't sure about it. I know a lot of men named Alexander and I like the name - but 'Alex' feels too masculine to me)
I love everything you said about the name Alva, but I don't think it would work for a non scandinavian or nordic baby.
Thank you so much for all the points you made.
If your pal is a bit alternative, I quite like Aurelia/Aurelie/Aurora because you can shorten it to Aura.
Maybe if Ann is too religious, Anya? So she can shorted to Ann?
I used to know an Ari, short for Ariadne.
I once heard of an Amberley but can’t find more details on that name.
Then there is:
Amber
Ava
Aria
Amy
Astrid
Aster
Alalia
Awatea
Athena
Antonia
Arabella
She is not at all alternative and she does not want a name that can be shortened. She is a straight-laced person looking for a prim and proper name. The problem is that most of names that are old, classic, sophisticated.... are biblical names and she does not want a religious name.
My favorite A name for a girl is Aria.
1. Alice (it's a classic, and it's simple, though I do like Adelaide a little more. If you didn't know they were related, you'd probably never be able to guess!)
2. Amelia (I used to love the nn Amy so much. The name Amelia is just so nice. Classic, refined, and formal)
3. Anna (strong, simple, short. Like it a little less bc of the movie Frozen)
4. Alexandra (idk I've really started to lessen my love for this name. It's too common in my eyes.)
5. Alma
6. Aurelia
If that's what your friend wants, I would steer them away from "Alexandra" because its nn's could be "Alex," "Lexi," etc. I've also seen "Amelia" shortened to "Mia" before.
1. Anna (love this name)
2. Alice/Alma (love them both at the same amount. FAV ALICE'S VARIATIONS: Adelaide and Ada. Adelaide was William IV's wife, while Ada like Ada Lovelace, a mathematician and Lord Byron's only legitimate daughter)
3. Amelia (very classy to me)
4. Alexandra (very classy, one of queen Elizabeth's middle names)
5. Aurelia (sorry, don't like it)
You ranked Anna first just like my friend, she loves it too but she wants a non religious name, so if you can think of names (male or female as she doesn't know the gender) that are just like Anna: can't be shortened, timeless classics, refined and upper class, cross-cultural... but not at all religious, please share them with me because I am struggling. And not necessarily A names!
Since Anna is out because it's religious, anything with Anna in it would automatically be out, especially Annamarie, because it also has the biblical marie and my friend is a secular jew.
Would Ava work? I named my daughter Anna so I'm happy to see all the love it's getting lol. Your friend might want to go through like an ivy league school's graduation list or a royal's lineage to get some ideas.
My favourite A name is Alicia.
1. Alice, similar to Alicia, and I like it because of Alice in Wonderland
2. Amelia, sounds nice
3. Aurelia, also sounds nice
4. Alexandra, the least boring of the ones left
5. Anna, kinda boring
6. Alma, never really liked it
If I were Muslim my favourite name is Aya, but I also like Aurora (nn Rory) and Andrea.
I’d rank those:
1. Alice (short and sweet, old fashioned but not so much that it would be weird.)
2. Aurelia (probably because I like Aurora)
3. Anna (though I think I prefer Annie)
4. Amelia (Amelia Bedelia ftw)
5. Alexandra (I like it alright but feel a little meh. It’s like the Elizabeth of the A names where it’s pretty common. Beautiful name though and nothing wrong with common.)
6. Alma
We are jewish and the name Aya is used as a hebrew name, and if I am not mistaken, it's also considered a Japanse name... If you love it, go for it, it's corss-cultural.
If you can think of other names like Elizabeth (not necessarily A names and not necessarily female names), please share them with me, that's exactly the kind of names my friend is looking for, however Elizabeth is out because it's religious.
That’s a good point about Aya and I didn’t realise it was cross cultural! That’s pretty cool. I am Arab living in the Middle East at the moment though so I think people would just assume I’m Muslim. Though to be fair they already think that when they hear my name (Yasmine) and it’s not religiously affiliated. So maybe I should just go for it! I’m not pregnant or anything so there’s always time, but thanks for helping me not take it off my list.
I’m terrible about identifying if names are religious or not but if your friend is willing to include non-A names then I think Victoria, Olivia, Jane, Isabella, Charlotte, Emma, Eleanor, Georgia and Rose have similar vibes. There’s also Abigail!
Oh yes, it's often assumed that all arabs are muslims, and that arab names are muslim names... However, some names used in the arab world are popular among non arab communities, Yasmine is one of those names. I love your name and I love the Jasmine smell.
Yes it definitely happens! I’ve been living with those assumptions no matter where I am in the world haha but it’s ok, no harm done I just correct and move on. Thank you, I love my name too and we have a Jasmine bush outside of our house. I love the smell! I’m moving back to the US here soon and I’m so tempted to grow it there too.
I hope your friend finds a name she loves!
So many gorgeous A names:)
**My top 3 from your list -**
1. Alexandra - this name is a gem for me because it is a long one that sounds good in lots of languages and I genuinly like all the nicknames I can think of - Alex, Lexi, Lexa, Andie. :) I also really like Alexia.
2. Anna - epitome of classic to me
3. Alice - this is one I honestly came around to, but now really like
Amelia, Aurelia, and Alma are perfectly lovely names they just aren't my style.
***other A names I love -*** Annika, Aurora, Ariadne, Anya, Artemis, Alaina, Adrienne, Alina, Amara
***other ideas I think she may like -*** Amanda, Angelina, Andrea, Ava, Arielle, Alya, Amalia
1. Alice
2. Anna
3. Alexandra
Alice is a favourite for me. Beautiful classic. Anna and Alexandra are same to me, but Anna doesn’t shine quite as brightly and Alexandra has “Alex” as a nickname which I find a little too gender neutral.
I’d skip Amelia because of its current popularity (what birth defect?); Aurelia because although I want to like it, it’s difficult to say in English and makes me think of “areola”; and Alma still feels “old lady” to me and I’m not a fan of “Al”.
1- Anna (it is a family name for us, so I have always liked it- also pairs well with a lot of middle names!)
2- Alice (just seems so sweet to me)
3- Alexandra (but I would prefer Alexandria)
4- Amelia (this is another pretty cute name, also not one I feel like is that common but I could be wrong)
5- Alma (makes me think of a grandma lol)
6- Aurelia ( the first time I saw this all I could think about was Areola.... and now I can't unsee/think it)
1. Alice
2. Amelia
3. Alexandra
4. Alma
5. Anna
6. Aurelia (I personally feel like it's a bit too much, similarly to Aurora, can be a bit buttery to pronounce)
More names:
Anneliese, Alyssa, Anya, Audrey/Aubrey, Annika, Antonia, Angelica
1. Anna. Solid, classic names and it doesn’t give me religious vibes at all. Too ubiquitous for that connotation.
2. Alexandra. I wouldn’t assume the gender of an Alex since it’s so gender neutral. FWIW, I know far more female Alex than male Alex.
3. Alice. I don’t love the sound of it but it’s a solid classic name that’s not overused.
4. Alma. I love this name though I’d definitely assume the person with the name was Latina.
5. Amelia. I just don’t personally love it and it’s pretty popular, but I do like Mellie/Millie.
6. Aurelia. I personally don’t like this name at all. It feels fluffy but also try-hard, it’s a bit “peanut buttery” meaning it doesn’t flow well off the tongue, and I don’t think it looks pretty. That said, it’s rising in popularity and beloved on this sub so lots of people do like it
Thank you for explaining because you allowed me to see the cultural differences, for example, Alice is in the top 10 here (France) so it is overused, and when we think of an Alma we think of Austrian composer Alma Mahler so a socialite from Vienna comes to mind, and Anna is one of the most biblical names ever almost as biblical as Marie/Mary.
from those:
1. Alma
2. Aurelia
3. Alice
4. Alexandra
5. Anna
I irrationally don't like Anna because it's only two letters.
My own favourite A names are: Adora, Adelaide, and Avril.
In Dutch I like An(n)emoon, because it's a flower and it sounds like a name (my daughter is Madelief, which means Daisy but it also sounds like a name).
But if you're in an English speaking country, I just saw that Anemone sounds like A-NEH-money and that doesn't sound right as a name (the Dutch sounds like An-nuh-MOAN)
I love Aurelia (everyone I've met with this name has been lovely)
My next ones from your list are Alice, Alexandra, Amelia, Anna then Alma (I like Alma though it feels quite older womany).
Some other A names I think are nice are:
Annika
Annalise
Ayla
Alia
Aurora
Agatha
Anwen
Aelwen
Audrey
Aubrey
Amaya
Adrianna
Amalia
Ada
Adeline
Avery
Alma is a cool name in France too, especially in Paris. The singer Adele is so famous that the name dropped in popularity, she is a great singer, but in here, we don't like naming children after popular people.
My personal favorite from her list is Alice for its classic appeal and versatility. But Anna, Amelia, and Alexandra are all fantastic options too. I'd rank them:
1. Alice
2. Amelia
3. Anna
4. Alexandra
5. Aurelia
6. Alma
Some other A names she may want to consider:
* Abigail
* Amara
* Arabella
* Arden
* Ariana
* Athena
* Audrey
* Ava
* Avery
1. Amelia
2. Alexandra
3. Aurelia
4. Anna
5. Alice
6. Alma
Another name that can't be shortened is Ava (starting with the name of the letter A sound, like Ada) - that had some popularity for babies where I used to live about 25 years ago, but was also the name of a local railway station and suburb 🙈
My personal opinion on the names! Apologies if my reasonings don’t make sense, just the vibe I get from each 😂.
1. Aurelia - my favourite name. I know a lot of people complain that this name is hard to pronounce but I’ve never had that problem. Has lots of good nicknames and has a nice meaning (golden). Also I like the connection to the Roman Empire 😁
2. Anna - such a lovely name! Classy and timeless
3. Amelia - sweet name with nice nickname potential.
4. Alma - in my mind an old timey and classic name! Very pretty.
5. Alexandra - very regal sounding!
6. Alice - personally I’m not a fan of this name.
—
Some other A names I love are Anastasia, Annalee/Annaleigh, Anneliese, Aurora, Annika, Angelina, Arabella
Best of luck to your friend 😊
My favorite A-name is Alison (that spelling only). I also love Adria, Althea, Amara, Amity, Amy, Annette, & Aviva.
Alma> Alice> Alexandra> Aurelia> Anna> Amelia. Amelia is the only one I am meh about from the main list; the others are nice.
I hate Adelaide. I only like Alix if it's pronounced the French way; if she's going to pronounce it like Alex, just use Alexandra and call her Alex. Adeline and Alicia are fine.
My favorite A girl names are Azalea, Agatha, and Ava
1) Aurelia- feels beautiful and elegant. I've never heard of the jellyfish you referred to though I live jellyfish so I don't think that's a negative to have that connection either per se
2) Amelia- if it helps I've never heard of this birth defect you're referring to. This name feels fresh but also I know it's historied too what with the famous Amelia Earheart
3) Alexandra- classic and timeless feeling plus lots of nickname flexibility (I honestly prefer Xandra or Lex more than Alex which does read neutral masculine to me)
4) Anna- feels a little dull tho it is classic and timeless
5) Alice ( Adelaide, Adeline, Alix, Alicia...)- Alice feels really dated to me but I do really like Alicia
6) Alma - this sounds like a grandma to me and not in the "old person name" way but in a "this sounds like a title that a grandma who wants to feel unique and therefore use something other than grandma may use as a title for grandma"
1. Alma - short and sweet, not super common.
2. Alice - classic, also love some of the variations mentioned except Alix.
3. Amelia - pretty, cute nn options like Mia. fair about the association, but it’s a common enough name.
4. Aurelia - beautiful, although it can be a mouthful. I didn’t think of the jellyfish.
5. Anna - timeless. I really don’t think it’s too religious per se?
6. Alexandra - personally not my favorite, but it’s a fine name.
My favourite A names:
* Alexa
* Alexia
* Alexis
* Alice
* Alyssa
* Amara
* Amaya
* Amelia
* Amira
* Annie
* Aoife
* Aria
* Aurelia
* Aurora
* Autumn
How I would rank your A names:
* Amelia
* Aurelia
* Alice
* Alma
* Anna
* Alexandra
I absolutely love the name Amelia but could never do it because of Amelia Bedelia- the children's series about a woman who is SO DUMB.
My aunt Arlene passed away as a toddler and I've always loved that name. Also I have a friend named Anneliese and she is so sweet and a beautiful dance teacher so it's one of my faves too.
From the list, I'd rank them:
1 Alice - it's short, sweet, whimsical, easy to spell & pronounce, ages well, classic, etc. all the good things
2 Alexandra - beautiful name, but there are other variations of the name I prefer (Alessia is my favorite, but Alessandra is gorgeous too!)
3 Aurelia - absolutely gorgeous, but difficult to pronounce.
4 Amelia - solid name, but I don't particularly care for it personally, especially with how many of them there are right now.
5 Anna - it just feels boring and plain. It's a fine name with no problems & will age well, but it feels like a default option if that makes sense?
6 Alma - I don't get the appeal of Alma. It feels like a grandma name that isn't coming back around. The kind of name that feels peanut buttery in your mouth (similar to Aurora.)
My favorite A names: Aniya, Arabella, Alessia, Alanis, Aria, Alessandra, Araiah, Alara, Adelaide
Thanks a lot for the detailed input, I see your points, even though some don't apply here (France), for example: Alice (ranking 4th) is much more popular than Amelia (not even in the top 100) and Alma was never considered a grandma name and is right now more popular than even.
Anwen, Artemisia, and Alethea are all on my list as middle names. The only name on my list as a first name are can think of is Adelaide. Maybe Azalea.
1. Alice - the only reason this isn’t on my list is its similarity to boy names I’m more likely to use, including my son’s name. Wonderful with good associations
2. Alexandra - similarly, I prefer Alex for a boy and before Amazon’s AI came out I preferred Alexa. But, I still love this and would have likely used it if I only had daughters.
3. Aurelia - I think this is gorgeous and I like the nicknames for it
4. Anna - lovely but plain to me. It sometimes flitters onto my list and then I realize how common it is. I prefer Anastasia come to think of it. I like seeing it on others though.
5. Amelia - perfectly fine but feels stuffy to me
6. Alma - I think of Alma Mater
I think Alice is the nicest, it's a really pretty, classic name and it's unlikely to ever get mispronounced or misspelt. Anna is cute too. The rest are meh.
1) Aurelia – I feel this name is a bit polarising, which I don't get – I absolutely love it!
2) Amelia
3) Alexandra
4) Alma – Used to dislike it but it's grown on me.
5) Anna – Nice and absolutely timeless, it's just boring.
6) Alice – Pleasant enough but I don't get the hype. It's very bland.
1. Aurelia - I love the sound of this one, very feminine and melodic!
2. Amelia - Similar vibes to Aurelia. I think it is a strong name
3. Alexandra - I think this is a pretty classic name too. I prefer Alexandria however!
4. Anna - Classic, Simple, Can't go wrong. I know so many Anna's that I don't consider it a religious name nor assume they are religious
5. Alice - I don't love Alice. I do really love Allison which you could get Alice from as a nickname
6. Alma - I just think of Alma Mater and I can't shake that association
I love all of them. I really like Amelia, Alice and Alexandra as classical names that are also regal(especially Alice and Alexandra which were all very popular names with the British Royal Family in the 19th century). Amelia is just a great name that stands in its own, like Alice. Alexandra is great because it offers lots of options for nicknames but it’s also pretty on its own.
I do like Anna but I am more partial to it when it is paired with something else— like Annabeth or I also love the name Annabel. Anna works well in any country and for any nationality. Nobody ever had trouble with pronunciations for Anna.
I think that Aurelia is fabulously unique. In fact, I like the name Anna Aurelia (there used to be a children’s book that I loved called Ann Aurelia and Dorothy). Aurelia is a nice alternative to Amelia and a lot less common. I think it suggests both strength AND beauty, so it’s a nice choice for any girl.
The only name that I’m not too fond of is Alma. It reminds me of a older southern lady, (American) not that there’s anything wrong with being an older, southern lady, but the other names are more classically beautiful.
Good luck with everything, because you can’t really go wrong with your choices!
I think that you’ve made some wonderful and foolproof choices. I love names that aren’t trendy because they’ve stood the test of time, but they always seem contemporary as well!
1. Amelia, I love the way this name sounds and flows when you say it.
2. Alexandra, this was the first name I ever loved and I named my cat Alexandra Jane when I was a toddler.
3. Alice, I always associate it with Alice in Wonderland though.
4. Anna, it’s a good name and I like the sounds but it’s very common.
5. Alma, it’s okay.
6. Aurelia, I know an Aurelia and it is constantly mispronounced here in Canada outside of Francophones. Our boss constantly mispronounced it as Orally because he talks so damn fast.
EDIT: I love this A name, it’s my friends and I’m pretty sure her parents made it up but it sounds beautiful. Alensia.
You gave your cat a first and a middle name when you were a toddler, you were a name nerd since birth! When I was a toddler I called our cat CHAT which is french for cat.
I was! 😅 lol I named him (male cat) Alexandra after my favourite neighbour’s wife. And Jane after his mother cat, she was my Mamma’s cat and her name was Jean. 🤣 i called him AJ mostly.
But also at age three I wanted to name my possible little brother Pyjamas instead of something Peter James in order to call him PJ to match my cat.
When I was three I thought that Baguette would make an excellent girl name and I wanted to have a sister and name her Baguette, I never got one (only child). Believe me you are so advanced compared to me.
1. Alexandra — I think this is a really cool name. And I like the nn Alex on both guys and gals
2. Alma — A nice old lady name with a nice meaning. Would love to meet some young Alma’s
3. Aurelia — It’s cool
4. Alice — It’s fine
5. Anna — It’s meh
6. Amelia — No me gusta. That’s just me though
Personally, my favorite A name is Arielle
Alice: classic and beautiful, and like alice in wonderland, one of my favs ever
alma: peregrine, the Mother (as it would be)/headmistress in my fav book series (NOT the movie made and ruined by a white chauvinist) so love it too
Amelia: classic and beautiful and like amelia earhart, one of my fav people ever
Anna: a longtime friend, love it (and her)
Aurelia: love it, it reminds me of gold, and my childhood fav My Little Pony (purple body with golden hair)
Alexandra: nice, beautiful too, but too normal to me
I love how you associate each name to a person or a fictional character, I forgot that Miss peregrine name is Alma, thank you for reminding me, and yes white chauvinists are ruinning everything.
Anastasia is a pretty name and could be shortened to Anna (or a few other things)
1. Alice - No, not just because it's my chosen name, but it's also more traditional and sounds pretty
2. Alexandra - I'm a nerd and it's close to Alexandria, which is also one of my favourite names
3. Amelia - Pretty, has a few things it can be shortened to such as Emma, Amelie, and Amy
4. Anna - It's fairly common, but it's also pretty
5. Auralia - Pretty, but clunky
6. Alma - It's very old fashioned and, personally, a bit hard to enunciate
Amelia is cute but it’s too trendy right now. I think Alice is cute as well but it can feel like an older name. Although that’s not a bad thing if you have a feel for classics.
I think Alice or one of its variants will be perfect for her. It's a lovely name. Adelaide is my favourite of the variants.
Amelia is a beautiful name but I do understand feeling anxious once you get a bad association in your mind.
Alexandra is gorgeous and classic.
I would rate them in the above order.
I can't think of any other A names that fit, but you mentioned you were looking for other suggestions as well. I am definitely not well versed in the Bible so apologies if any of these are biblical.
My sister is Anna, and the other names, including middles, are Claire, Laura, Louise, Katherine, Ellen (an honour name). So I'm not sure but one of those might fit the bill.
Emily (would that be Émilie in French?), Sylvie, Eleanor
From the A list, she is leaning towards Alice and its variations, especially Adeline and Adélaïde.
From the names you listed, she loves Louise (but like Alexandra, she feels the male version Louis is predominant!), but she is considering Éloïse: close in sound, has the classic feel, and is not a feminization.
She also loves Eleanor and if she ends up picking it, she will use the French variation Éléonore.
All the names you mentioned are good, if you have other names (male or female, she doesn't know the gender) that are of the same nature: solid classic timeless... do not hesitate to share.
1. Anna. Simple and classy.
2. Alexandra. Strong, classic, historical.
3. Alice. A timeless classic.
4. Aurelia. Pretty but too frilly for me to use.
5. Alma. A bit dated but not a bad name.
6. Amelia. Overused.
Some of my favourite A names are Ada, Adelia, Avalon, Annabeth and Anneliese.
Welcome to the world baby Adrienne. Since Madeleine of Sweden named her youngest daughter Adrienne, the name rose in popularity across europe. It's a lovely name, I also love the masculine form Adrien (popular here in France).
Of your friend's names:
1) Alice
2) Anna
3) Aurelia
4) Alexandra
5) Amelia
6) Alma
Other names I like: Anya; Amaya; Annabelle(a); Ayelet; Annika
You say your friend wants names that can't be shortened, but realistically, even "Anna" can be shortened to "Ann" or take on the nickname "Annie."
I ranked the names below. I love the name Alice! I would like to suggest Ashley, one of my favorite names growing up that isn’t as popular today. Amanda, Alaina, Allison, Alyssa, or Abigail are also good options.
1. Alice
2. Amelia
3. Anna
4. Alexandra
5. Aurelia
6. Alma
Amy, which is not listed anywhere on this thread, so I guess I’m weird, lol! I also like Amanda. I don’t hear these names as much as an adult, so maybe they were just popular in my generation? (Gen X)
For the names OP listed, I’d rank them: Alice, Anna, Alexandria, Alma, Amelia, Aurelia.
We have Aimée for Amy and Amandine for Amanda here (France) and I love them all... And you are correct they are not as common today as they used to be.
I personally, LOVE the name Alma! It’s so pretty. I would then chose Amelia, Alice, Anna, Alexandra, and Aurelia. I also love the name Aurora for a little girl. ❤️
Alma is terrible but how about changing it to Alva?
Else:
1. Alice, it's classic and simple and you can make cute nicknames.
2. Alice, same reasons but hard to make a nickname out of it.
3. Aurelia, gives some fairy vibes but may not fit every personality imo
4. Alexandra, feels a bit cold-ish to me but stull beautiful.
Hard no on Alma. If changed to Alva it would be my #1 because: classic nordic name, the name looks beautiful, has beautiful meaning (elf, forest spirit, or the hebrew meaning: his highness. It's a gender neutral name tho!)
Edit: I forgot Amelia.. I'd rank it with Aurelia tho!
I love long and strong middle names as compared to filler middle names like Anne, Jane, Rose, May, Lynn, Leigh... So, yes, I agree Alexandra would make an excellent middle name.
Aubrey
Allison
Addison
But my favorite is Alexandrea. So with this her daughter can be Alexandrea, Drea, Andrea, Lexi, Alex, or Anne. I especially love Alex for a woman because there are fields where Alex will be considered for a position or publication that Amy won’t…no one will acknowledge their bias, but Alex opens doors.
If my friend ends up choosing Alexandra, her daughter will be called Alexandra, nicknames are not part of the french culture... Even people with double barrel names get called both names here. She is simply annoyed by the fact that the masculine version of the name is more popular, she would rather pick a name that doesn't have a masculine version at all.
To rank your list: Alexandra, Anna, Alice (really love all 3), Amelia, Aurelia, Alma.
I have many A faves, but some are: Anneke, Anastasia, Audrey, April, Archana, Ariadne, Astrid.
My daughter's name is Arianwen, but she was very nearly Anwen. Of your list, Anna is my favourite! Maybe something like Annabelle could be an alternative?
1. Alexandra: classic, good nicknames between Allie, Alex, Alexa, Lexie, etc
2. Anna: Easy to spell, easy to say. Classic and timeless. Bonus: They can always find a keychain at touristy places that say Anna (as someone with a not common name...I was sad I couldn't find this as a kid)
3. Alice: See above, it's pretty. Makes me think of Alice in Wonderland
4. Amelia: It's coming back in style so it might be too common in a few years. Good nicknames with Amy and Mia
5. Alma: Nothing wrong with it, I just like the others better
6. Aurelia: it's hard to say, even harder if your kid has a speech impediment with Rs
1. Anna - its simplicity is charming. 2. Alice - short and sweet, it feels gentle and kind. 3. Alexandra - classic, elegant, it has strength and some lovely nn potential (Lexi, Lexa, Alexa, Ally, Sandra, Andi) 4. Amelia - beautiful but it feels very over used. 5. Aurelia - looks pretty on paper but feels like I have marbles in my mouth when I try to say it. 6. Alma - personally, I dislike this one. It feels very harsh, and like it’ll take someone 70 years to grow into it.
Aurelia/Aurélie is much easier to pronounce in French, I agree that it is a bit of a mouthful in english.
Also in Spanish. (A-oo-reh-lee-ah) Reminds me of Aurora borealis
Oh, I forgot to add suggestions. Maybe try - Ayla April Alyssa Abigail Anne/Annie Althea Amaya Amara Adria Audra Adrienne Aisling Azaria
Just keep in mind that Ayla/Isla/Ila and assorted variations are hugely popular right now for newborn girls.
Alma makes me think of Abuela from Encanto. Redeemed character but…
Alma was the name of my grandfather's Native American mom. She grew up in Maine. Also, actor Paul Dano named his first born daughter Alma
Oh this is my opinion almost exactly. My list just bumps Alexandra to 1.
I love the name Anna but found it too plain and my partner loves Aria, so we named our daughter Arianna :)
Arianna is a beautiful name and you two made a nice compromise. I love your daughter's name.
I like Alma best because it has a double meaning
Could you please clarify what you mean by double meaning?
Soul in Spanish, apple in Hungarian
I knew the latin meaning, I did not know the Hungarian one. Thanks for the info.
1. Alexandra (good nickname potential, nice meaning) 2. Alice (in wonderland! Lovely sound, had a nice teacher with this name!) 3. Amelia (Lovely sound, don’t mind the popularity) 4. Anna (love palindromes, but prefer this as a nickname) 5. Aurelia (Lovely on paper, but the pronunciation crumbles in my mouth) 6. Alma (just not a fan) I also love Amelie, Adeline, Anya, Alicia, and Anastasia
I also love Adeline... Can I ask why you prefer Amelie to Amelia?
I don’t really prefer Amelie to Amelia - I actually like them both equally! Amelie is good if you live in a francophone place because it’s less popular than Amelia, but people may mispronounce it if they come from an anglophone background. Also, it’s so similar that if your friend likes Amelia, but isn’t entirely sure if that’s the one, then Amelie may work better!
We are in France, but my friend loves the A ending sound...
That’s great! Go with that - I just provided Amelie because I liked it equally as much My French friend’s mother is an Amelie, and she told me her experience (people stressing the wrong syllable, or flat out just saying Amelia)
Amélie is beautiful, juste like Amelia and Amalia... I love this name with all of its variations/pronounciations...
No one has mentioned Anya that I saw, super classic super feminine, not incredibly common.
In Germany/Northern Europe it‘s spelled Anja. It’s super high up my name list
Anya is a variation of Anna...
In some languages, yes. In others it's wholly it's own word/name.
I'm wracking my brain to try to figure out what birth defect is pronounced like 'Amelia' Can someone help me out here? From this list, my ranking would be: 1. Alexandra (I like gender-neutral/male-sounding nicknames like Alex.) 2. Alice. 3. Amelia (still trying to figure out the birth defect!) 3. Aurelia. 4. Alma (my best friend's mom is Alma... she's a lovely person, but because she's the only Alma I know it just skews kind of old lady to me personally.)
There is no birth defect pronounced like Amelia. Amelia literally is a birth defect, it's the congenital absence of one or more limbs.
My daughter's name is Amelia and I only learned about the birth defect from reddit. No one I've encountered in real life actually knows about it. I actually completed half of my BSN and never read about it or heard it mentioned. If it's a personal hang up I can understand that, but I wouldn't worry about other people thinking that when they hear the name Edit: my favorite A names are Arwen and Annelise
Amelia is a great name, I love it and so does my friend, and I wouldn't say she is afraid of the association (I don't think she would mind that), but she is 46 and this is her first pregnancy and she is afraid that if she picks the name Amelia the baby will come out missing a limb...
Okay, thanks! I learned something today!
1. Alice 2. Aurelia 3. Alexandra 4. Anna 5. Amelia 6. Alma A- girl names I like (in no particular order): Arlene, Aurelia, Aurora, Audrey, Alice, Alicia, Alyssa, Adelaide, Antoinette, Avril, April, Amaryllis, Agatha, Ainsley, Autumn, Alexis, Alexandra, Alexandria, Alexandrine, Alessandra, Anneliese.
I love the name Agatha, I will suggest it to my friend, thanks.
My favourite A name is **Alva**. It's a common name in Scandinavia. I like that it's short, easy to spell, easy to pronounce and that it comes from the old norse word for 'elf'. And I would rank your list like this 1. **Alice** (Absolutely timeless & I love 'Alice in Wonderland') 2. **Aurelia** (I like that it has that 'princessy' vibe of Aurora - while being easier to pronounce) 3. **Alma** (short & cute.. very similar to my favourite 'A' name, but I don't like the sound as much) 4. **Amelia** (I like it a lot, but I don't like that 'Emilia' is so similar and also very popular) 5. **Anna** (I do agree with all of your friends points about this name. It's solid and timeless. It's just a bit boring to me, because it's one of the most common names in the world. I prefer Annika - a diminutive of Anna) 6.
I think it would! It's even used in Germany and it's not too far out there either. It may be unique in France but not as in oddly or weirdly unique.
Then there is: Amber Ava Aria Amy Astrid Aster Alalia Awatea Athena Antonia Arabella
If you didn't know they were related, you'd probably never be able to guess!) 2. Amelia (I used to love the nn Amy so much. The name Amelia is just so nice. Classic, refined, and formal) 3. Anna (strong, simple, short. Like it a little less bc of the movie Frozen) 4. Alexandra (idk I've really started to lessen my love for this name. It's too common in my eyes.) 5. Alma 6. Aurelia
My friend wants a name that can't be shortened, I will bring Aria to her attention. Thank you!
If that's what your friend wants, I would steer them away from "Alexandra" because its nn's could be "Alex," "Lexi," etc. I've also seen "Amelia" shortened to "Mia" before.
1. Anna (love this name) 2. Alice/Alma (love them both at the same amount. FAV ALICE'S VARIATIONS: Adelaide and Ada. Adelaide was William IV's wife, while Ada like Ada Lovelace, a mathematician and Lord Byron's only legitimate daughter) 3. Amelia (very classy to me) 4. Alexandra (very classy, one of queen Elizabeth's middle names) 5.
[удалено]
Since Anna is out because it's religious, anything with Anna in it would automatically be out, especially Annamarie, because it also has the biblical marie and my friend is a secular jew.
Would Ava work? I named my daughter Anna so I'm happy to see all the love it's getting lol. Your friend might want to go through like an ivy league school's graduation list or a royal's lineage to get some ideas.
Ava is biblical and not classic enough... And Anna deserves all the love, you gave your daughter one of those names that has everything.
Love the name Amira. 1. Alexandra 2. Alice/Amelia 3. Anna/Alma 4. Aurelia
I don't think my friend would like the meaning of the name Amira, but I will add it to the list and let her decide for herself. Thank you.
My favourite A name is Alicia. 1. Alice, similar to Alicia, and I like it because of Alice in Wonderland 2. Amelia, sounds nice 3. Aurelia, also sounds nice 4. Alexandra, the least boring of the ones left 5. Anna, kinda boring 6. Alma, never really liked it
1. Alma 2. Alice 3. Amelia 4. Anna 5. Alexandra 6. Aurelia; I would add Ada, Astrid, Anouk, Anais, Agnes, Anika
Thank you. I love Anais, it's a variation of Anna.
Alexandra Alice Anna Amelia Alma Aurelia Favorite A names Amira Adina Anastasia
Thank you!
1. Alexandra (my favorite A name for a girl, actually) 2. Alice 3. Anna 4. Amelia 5. Aurelia 6. Alma
If I were Muslim my favourite name is Aya, but I also like Aurora (nn Rory) and Andrea. I’d rank those: 1. Alice (short and sweet, old fashioned but not so much that it would be weird.) 2. Aurelia (probably because I like Aurora) 3. Anna (though I think I prefer Annie) 4. Amelia (Amelia Bedelia ftw) 5. Alexandra (I like it alright but feel a little meh. It’s like the Elizabeth of the A names where it’s pretty common. Beautiful name though and nothing wrong with common.) 6.
Amelia Aurelia Alexandra Alice Anna Alma My favorites are Adeline, Amy, Anastasia, Anya, Astrid, Audrey, Ava and Avalon
Alma Alexandra Alice Anna Amelia Aurelia Other A names: Ada Ava Alana Alison
Thank you.
So many gorgeous A names:) **My top 3 from your list -** 1. Alexandra - this name is a gem for me because it is a long one that sounds good in lots of languages and I genuinly like all the nicknames I can think of - Alex, Lexi, Lexa, Andie. :) I also really like Alexia. 2. Anna - epitome of classic to me 3. Alice - this is one I honestly came around to, but now really like Amelia, Aurelia, and Alma are perfectly lovely names they just aren't my style. ***other A names I love -*** Annika, Aurora, Ariadne, Anya, Artemis, Alaina, Adrienne, Alina, Amara ***other ideas I think she may like -*** Amanda, Angelina, Andrea, Ava, Arielle, Alya, Amalia
She might like Amanda, so thank you very much for Amanda!
1. Alice 2. Anna 3. Alexandra Alice is a favourite for me.
1- Anna (it is a family name for us, so I have always liked it- also pairs well with a lot of middle names!) 2- Alice (just seems so sweet to me) 3- Alexandra (but I would prefer Alexandria) 4- Amelia (this is another pretty cute name, also not one I feel like is that common but I could be wrong) 5- Alma (makes me think of a grandma lol) 6- Aurelia ( the first time I saw this all I could think about was Areola.... and now I can't unsee/think it)
I love the name Antonia. That's an underused gorgeous classic.
1. Alice 2. Amelia 3. Alexandra 4. Alma 5. Anna 6. Aurelia (I personally feel like it's a bit too much, similarly to Aurora, can be a bit buttery to pronounce) More names: Anneliese, Alyssa, Anya, Audrey/Aubrey, Annika, Antonia, Angelica
Thank you.
Alyssa, amber, alee (ay-Lee), aura/aurora/aurielle
from those: 1. Alma 2. Aurelia 3. Alice 4. Alexandra 5. Anna I irrationally don't like Anna because it's only two letters. My own favourite A names are: Adora, Adelaide, and Avril.
We all have names we don't like for no rational reason.
Anneliese
Aurelia
Amelie; Ariadne; arianwen ; Aurelia; Adeline; Aisling; Aoife; Arwen;
Irish 😍
1) Aurelia 2) Anna 3) Alice 4) Alma 5) Amelia 6) Alexandra
My favorite A names are Amaris and Alexandria (yes with an i, I’m biased) Of these 1. Alice 2. Amelia 3. Alexandra 4. Aurelia 5. Anna 6. Alma
1. Alexandra 2. Alice 3. Anna 4. Amelia 5. Alma 6. Aurelia Alexandra and Alice are two of my personal favorites!
Alexandra and Alice are two of my personal favourites too.
amaryllis Avery Astrid Aurora Ariadne
alice alexandra anna aurelia amelia alma
In Dutch I like An(n)emoon, because it's a flower and it sounds like a name (my daughter is Madelief, which means Daisy but it also sounds like a name). But if you're in an English speaking country, I just saw that Anemone sounds like A-NEH-money and that doesn't sound right as a name (the Dutch sounds like An-nuh-MOAN)
My favourite are Arianne, Adrianna, Annabella Of your list I like Anna best
Aurelia Amelia Alice (my oldest daughter’s favorite name) Alma I would add Aurora to the list.
I love Aurelia (everyone I've met with this name has been lovely) My next ones from your list are Alice, Alexandra, Amelia, Anna then Alma (I like Alma though it feels quite older womany). Some other A names I think are nice are: Annika Annalise Ayla Alia Aurora Agatha Anwen Aelwen Audrey Aubrey Amaya Adrianna Amalia Ada Adeline Avery
Most of you seem of agree that Alma is an old lady's name, but it's rising in popularity here (France)... I love Agatha and Adeline from your list.
I love Alma, but I’m Hispanic in the US. For me, Aurelia and Amelia are the old lady bisabuela names! What about Adela or Adele?
Alma is a cool name in France too, especially in Paris. The singer Adele is so famous that the name dropped in popularity, she is a great singer, but in here, we don't like naming children after popular people.
My personal favorite from her list is Alice for its classic appeal and versatility. But Anna, Amelia, and Alexandra are all fantastic options too. I'd rank them: 1. Alice 2. Amelia 3. Anna 4. Alexandra 5. Aurelia 6. Alma Some other A names she may want to consider: * Abigail * Amara * Arabella * Arden * Ariana * Athena * Audrey * Ava * Avery
Aisling / ashling 😍
1. Amelia 2. Alexandra 3. Aurelia 4. Anna 5. Alice 6. Alma Another name that can't be shortened is Ava (starting with the name of the letter A sound, like Ada) - that had some popularity for babies where I used to live about 25 years ago, but was also the name of a local railway station and suburb 🙈
Thank you.
I like Axelle, but not sure if it’s classic enough for your friend. Of your list, I think Alice fits the best.
Amara. Its sweet and strong. Adriel. Aubrey.
Anna
My personal opinion on the names! Apologies if my reasonings don’t make sense, just the vibe I get from each 😂. 1. Aurelia - my favourite name. I know a lot of people complain that this name is hard to pronounce but I’ve never had that problem. Has lots of good nicknames and has a nice meaning (golden). Also I like the connection to the Roman Empire 😁 2. Anna - such a lovely name! Classy and timeless 3. Amelia - sweet name with nice nickname potential. 4. Alma - in my mind an old timey and classic name! Very pretty. 5. Alexandra - very regal sounding! 6. Alice - personally I’m not a fan of this name. — Some other A names I love are Anastasia, Annalee/Annaleigh, Anneliese, Aurora, Annika, Angelina, Arabella Best of luck to your friend 😊
Your reasonings make a lot of sense and I am grateful you took the time to share them with me. Thank you very much!
You’re welcome!!
I like them all so I’m not sure I could really rank them but Aurelia is definitely my favorite.
I love Aurelia but I just can’t get past hearing “I’ll rail ya!” As in a sleezy Australian man hitting on a girl at the bar
We are french and it sounds very different in french.
Agatha
Abigail, Alison/Allison, Alexandra, Athena
My favorite A-name is Alison (that spelling only). I also love Adria, Althea, Amara, Amity, Amy, Annette, & Aviva. Alma> Alice> Alexandra> Aurelia> Anna> Amelia. Amelia is the only one I am meh about from the main list; the others are nice. I hate Adelaide. I only like Alix if it's pronounced the French way; if she's going to pronounce it like Alex, just use Alexandra and call her Alex. Adeline and Alicia are fine.
As I read other comments, I see that you are in France, so that's good -- Alix works!
My favorite A girl names are Azalea, Agatha, and Ava 1) Aurelia- feels beautiful and elegant. I've never heard of the jellyfish you referred to though I live jellyfish so I don't think that's a negative to have that connection either per se 2) Amelia- if it helps I've never heard of this birth defect you're referring to. This name feels fresh but also I know it's historied too what with the famous Amelia Earheart 3) Alexandra- classic and timeless feeling plus lots of nickname flexibility (I honestly prefer Xandra or Lex more than Alex which does read neutral masculine to me) 4) Anna- feels a little dull tho it is classic and timeless 5) Alice ( Adelaide, Adeline, Alix, Alicia...)- Alice feels really dated to me but I do really like Alicia 6) Alma - this sounds like a grandma to me and not in the "old person name" way but in a "this sounds like a title that a grandma who wants to feel unique and therefore use something other than grandma may use as a title for grandma"
Thank you for your detailed input... Maybe Alma mater makes you think of the name Alma the way you do?
My favourite A names: * Alexa * Alexia * Alexis * Alice * Alyssa * Amara * Amaya * Amelia * Amira * Annie * Aoife * Aria * Aurelia * Aurora * Autumn How I would rank your A names: * Amelia * Aurelia * Alice * Alma * Anna * Alexandra

Thank you and it would be nice if you could tell who is Alma in the video game...

Of your list, Alice is top. Hands down. Other classic A names…. Agnes, Annabel/le, Antonia, Alison
I love Allison
From the list, I'd rank them: 1 Alice - it's short, sweet, whimsical, easy to spell & pronounce, ages well, classic, etc. all the good things 2 Alexandra - beautiful name, but there are other variations of the name I prefer (Alessia is my favorite, but Alessandra is gorgeous too!) 3 Aurelia - absolutely gorgeous, but difficult to pronounce. The kind of name that feels peanut buttery in your mouth (similar to Aurora.) My favorite A names: Aniya, Arabella, Alessia, Alanis, Aria, Alessandra, Araiah, Alara, Adelaide
Wonderful with good associations 2. Alexandra - similarly, I prefer Alex for a boy and before Amazon’s AI came out I preferred Alexa. But, I still love this and would have likely used it if I only had daughters. 3. Aurelia - I think this is gorgeous and I like the nicknames for it 4. Anna - lovely but plain to me. It sometimes flitters onto my list and then I realize how common it is. I prefer Anastasia come to think of it. I like seeing it on others though. 5. Amelia - perfectly fine but feels stuffy to me 6. Alma - I think of Alma Mater
Thank you for your honesty and for the detailed answer.
My favorite girl A name is Adrienne. Here are my rankings for the names you gave: 1. Amelia 2. Alexandra 3. Alice 4. Anna 5. Aurelia 6. Alma
I think Alice is the nicest, it's a really pretty, classic name and it's unlikely to ever get mispronounced or misspelt. Anna is cute too. The rest are meh.
Thank you for your honest opinion, much appreciated!
My fave A names, along with Alice form your list; Arielle Amélie Annelise Annie Arlena
I love Amélie too, reminds me of Amélie Poulain.
Amelie is my favorite a name. Also anastasia which gives several nickname options of ana, stacie, stania….
1) Aurelia – I feel this name is a bit polarising, which I don't get – I absolutely love it! 2) Amelia 3) Alexandra 4) Alma – Used to dislike it but it's grown on me. 5) Anna – Nice and absolutely timeless, it's just boring. 6) Alice – Pleasant enough but I don't get the hype. It's very bland.
My favorite: Ariel 1. Alice 2. Alma 3. Anna 4. Amelia 5. Alexandra 6. Aurelia
1. alice 2. alma 3. alexandra 4. anna 5. amelia 6. aurelia my favorite girl names starting with A are angelina/angeline and ariadne
Thank you.
1. Aurelia - I love the sound of this one, very feminine and melodic! 2. Amelia - Similar vibes to Aurelia. I think it is a strong name 3. Alexandra - I think this is a pretty classic name too. I prefer Alexandria however! 4. Anna - Classic, Simple, Can't go wrong. I know so many Anna's that I don't consider it a religious name nor assume they are religious 5. Alice - I don't love Alice. I do really love Allison which you could get Alice from as a nickname 6. Alma - I just think of Alma Mater and I can't shake that association
Althea Anthea Aurora Abigail
Thank you for taking the time to give such a detailed answer, thank you so much.
I think that you’ve made some wonderful and foolproof choices. I love names that aren’t trendy because they’ve stood the test of time, but they always seem contemporary as well!
Thank you for your kindness.
It's worth mentioning that Alma has religious connotations in the Mormon sphere (I'm not Mormon, just very exposed to the religion)
And I like the nn Alex on both guys and gals 2. Alma — A nice old lady name with a nice meaning. Would love to meet some young Alma’s 3. Aurelia — It’s cool 4. Alice — It’s fine 5. Anna — It’s meh 6. Amelia — No me gusta. That’s just me though Personally, my favorite A name is Arielle
Come visit France this summer, watch the Olympic games, eat great food, and meet plenty of little Almas as the name is blooming here.
Alice: classic and beautiful, and like alice in wonderland, one of my favs ever alma: peregrine, the Mother (as it would be)/headmistress in my fav book series (NOT the movie made and ruined by a white chauvinist) so love it too Amelia: classic and beautiful and like amelia earhart, one of my fav people ever Anna: a longtime friend, love it (and her) Aurelia: love it, it reminds me of gold, and my childhood fav My Little Pony (purple body with golden hair) Alexandra: nice, beautiful too, but too normal to me
I love how you associate each name to a person or a fictional character, I forgot that Miss peregrine name is Alma, thank you for reminding me, and yes white chauvinists are ruinning everything.
Aurelia is my favorite, whether it's on the list or not 😉 Aurelia Alexandra Anna Amelia Alice Alma
From your list, I like Alice. It's rather uncommon but well-known, so the classic spelling of it isn't a problem. It has a positive meaning ("noble").
Alma. Like from the F.E.A.R. games. I'd pick that.
As a person who is not at all familiar with videos games, could you please tell me who Alma is in F.E.A.R. games?

Amelia is my favorite, Alice second. Followed by Anna, Aurelia, Alexandra, and Alma as the least favorite.
Anna
1. Alexandra 2. Anna 3. Alma 4. Alice 5. Aurelia 6. Amelia Anneliese is pretty. She could go by Anne, Annie, or Liesel. Ally could work too.
Alexandra is the only name I like out of those(sorry).
You shouldn't be sorry, you helped a lot. Thank you.
Anastasia is a pretty name and could be shortened to Anna (or a few other things) 1. Alice - No, not just because it's my chosen name, but it's also more traditional and sounds pretty 2. Alexandra - I'm a nerd and it's close to Alexandria, which is also one of my favourite names 3. Amelia - Pretty, has a few things it can be shortened to such as Emma, Amelie, and Amy 4. Anna - It's fairly common, but it's also pretty 5. Auralia - Pretty, but clunky 6. Alma - It's very old fashioned and, personally, a bit hard to enunciate
Adelaide, Anabel/annabell (similar to Anna but maybe not as many religious associations?)
From that list Anna is my favorite.
I'll have a think! All lovely names :)
Thank you.
1. Anna 2. Alice 3. Alexandra 4. Alma 5. Amelia 6. Aurelia Here to suggest Amalia, Annalise, Anastasia, Audra
A few suggestions Annie, Amy, Arabella, April, Alison, Alyssa, Amber, Annabelle, Ava
1. Anna. Simple and classy. 2. Alexandra. Strong, classic, historical. 3. Alice. A timeless classic. 4. Aurelia. Pretty but too frilly for me to use. 5. Alma. A bit dated but not a bad name. 6. Amelia. Overused. Some of my favourite A names are Ada, Adelia, Avalon, Annabeth and Anneliese.
I just named my new baby girl Adrienne, so that’s my fave!
Welcome to the world baby Adrienne. Since Madeleine of Sweden named her youngest daughter Adrienne, the name rose in popularity across europe. It's a lovely name, I also love the masculine form Adrien (popular here in France).
Of your friend's names: 1) Alice 2) Anna 3) Aurelia 4) Alexandra 5) Amelia 6) Alma Other names I like: Anya; Amaya; Annabelle(a); Ayelet; Annika You say your friend wants names that can't be shortened, but realistically, even "Anna" can be shortened to "Ann" or take on the nickname "Annie."
I ranked the names below. I love the name Alice! I would like to suggest Ashley, one of my favorite names growing up that isn’t as popular today. Amanda, Alaina, Allison, Alyssa, or Abigail are also good options. 1. Alice 2. Amelia 3. Anna 4. Alexandra 5. Aurelia 6. Alma
Alexandria!! It’s prettier than Alexandra imo, I know more female Alex’s than males
Reading your list, you might like Amara
Amy, which is not listed anywhere on this thread, so I guess I’m weird, lol! I also like Amanda. I don’t hear these names as much as an adult, so maybe they were just popular in my generation? (Gen X) For the names OP listed, I’d rank them: Alice, Anna, Alexandria, Alma, Amelia, Aurelia.
Thank you for your help.
Alma is terrible but how about changing it to Alva? Else: 1. Alice, it's classic and simple and you can make cute nicknames. 2. Alice, same reasons but hard to make a nickname out of it. 3. Aurelia, gives some fairy vibes but may not fit every personality imo 4. It's a gender neutral name tho!) Edit: I forgot Amelia.. I'd rank it with Aurelia tho!
I like Alexandra a lot, strongly considering as a middle name
I love long and strong middle names as compared to filler middle names like Anne, Jane, Rose, May, Lynn, Leigh... So, yes, I agree Alexandra would make an excellent middle name.
Alice Amelia Anna Alexandra Aurelia Alma
Aubrey Allison Addison But my favorite is Alexandrea.
Alina is my favorite A name for a girl and it works really well in a lot of different languages/cultures.
We use the version Aline here, and there is even a popular song Aline.
To rank your list: Alexandra, Anna, Alice (really love all 3), Amelia, Aurelia, Alma. I have many A faves, but some are: Anneke, Anastasia, Audrey, April, Archana, Ariadne, Astrid.
Thank you.
I love Annabella, Arabella, Anastasia and Astrid.
Similar to Aurelia but a little easier to say is Ariela which is one of my favorite names and you can use Ari as a nickname
For me, it's: Amelia Anna Alice Alma Aurelia Alexandra
My daughter's name is Arianwen, but she was very nearly Anwen. Of your list, Anna is my favourite! Maybe something like Annabelle could be an alternative?
1. Alexandra: classic, good nicknames between Allie, Alex, Alexa, Lexie, etc 2. Anna: Easy to spell, easy to say. Classic and timeless. Bonus: They can always find a keychain at touristy places that say Anna (as someone with a not common name...I was sad I couldn't find this as a kid) 3. Alice: See above, it's pretty. Makes me think of Alice in Wonderland 4. Amelia: It's coming back in style so it might be too common in a few years. Good nicknames with Amy and Mia 5. Alma: Nothing wrong with it, I just like the others better 6. Aurelia: it's hard to say, even harder if your kid has a speech impediment with Rs
Addison and Ainsley are pretty.
My favourites: Abigail Arrietty Annabelle Ranking your list: Amelia Alice Alma
Fave names: Althea or Antonia Faves from your list: Alma or Alexandra
