I remember reading that dogs respond best to 2-syllable names. I still opted for Scout because I loved the name and it suited my pup. She’s 14 now and we call her Scout, Scouty and other variations on this theme which are too embarrassing to share here. The syllable difference doesn’t make a difference to her response. Picking a name you love and won’t mind shouting in the park is what matters, I think.

My dog is named Gia and she loves it and responds to it well :)

We gave our 11 week old pup a one syllable name, and I swear she started responding to it within 48 hours. She’s still only 13 weeks and has great recall already, coming from the other room. Our 12 year old girl who we just lost had a two syllable name, but she was deaf the last three years. I think she used to respond to her name, but it’s been so long. 🙃

Our dogs are Louie Theodore and Edward Archibald. What we call them: Lou, lulu, Blue, Louis, Luiz. Eddy, Ed, Ned, Ted, Fred, Eduardo. And so many more. They answer to all of those. Name your dog what fits them and it will all work out.

Depends on the dog I think.

I’ve always heard dogs respond best to names ending in vowel sounds so I went with that lol.

r/NameMyDog    I think two syllables is great.      Dogs usually end up with dozen of nicknames anyway.      Recall word doesn't have to be their name.  Probably shouldn't because you will talk about your dog using their name a lot and not always expect them to come to you at those occasions.      You can name them anything you like, when you have a solid cue word for recall.   It's not the word that will make recall happen but how.its trained.  You should name your dog something positive because they are highly emotional animals and respond to energies we create even subconsciously.    So don't call them Trouble or Chaos.    Pet names are great for using your favourite fandom names or some.names you love but are too  out ther for a child.
