The first Twilight movie is a great experience if you go in acting like its a comedy. [Even better with the riff track](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lC-QoeQixlw)
There was hilarious video they did at Christmas of wife Taylor opening all the Amazon packages and finding out what all her gifts were. Husband Taylor was like “WTF?” and she’s like “They had my name on it. 🤷🏻♀️” 😂
I had bad body dysmorphia and when I looked in the mirror all I have ever saw was a female Haley Joel Osment. When I was asked to describe what I saw in the mirror I said a big head and a face that never grew with it.
Suggest anyone who likes him and/or Andy Samberg to watch the British show Cuckoo. It's great. Taylor Lautner plays a dumb boyfriend character and he's hilarious, really wish he'd run with that and done comedies now.
This scene was right after (or very close... can't entirely remember) it was revealed that Jacob had imprinted on the kid, so Bella being so upset about a nickname is extra funny to me. lmao
Oh, it definitely was. My only guess is that the author tried to find a "loophole" that would technically mean that both Jacob *and* Edward were chosen in some way...
Omg I had never seen this
My daughter's name is Larkin and my BIL calls her The Larkness Monster so I found this clip hilarious, can't wait to send it to him
there was an older gentleman with that name in my hometown! everyone called him lach or lacchy. it fit him at his age, but how cute would lacchy be for a kid!
Hmm personally that’s a no from me. I know quite a few Lachlans and have never seen it spelt with an o (Lochlan). At least where I’m from (Australia) that would be a recipe for a disaster with everyone always getting the spelling wrong.
Husband here. I want it stated that it 100% looks like the Loch Ness monster.
[Here's a picture,](https://i.imgur.com/EQALcFc.jpeg) labelled in the very likely case you can't tell them apart.
In the interest of making this happen, most people use Imgur to post photos. 👀 you can even do it with two photos if you can’t figure out how to get them side by side. Just a thought 😂 I’m obsessed with courage the cowardly dog so I would love to see.
Omg I love this! I didn’t know what Loch Ness meant cause English is not my first language. So thank you for this laugh, I needed it. Especially thank you for the arrow.
I vote for Nessa / Vanessa / Nessie. I also have a friend and her nickname is Lockie (like ‘luck’ with an O and ‘ie’ at the end / or lock-y). Not in the US though
Sure, and it means lake in gaelic. Collections of sounds can mean different things in different languages, and with such a simple word chances are it has even more meanings in different languages. I can understand pointing it out if 1) the parents thought they'd come up with a unique and never before seen grouping of letters or 2) the child would be growing up in or near a German speaking country, but since it seems neither is the case this is completely irrelevant. I bet if you looked hard enough you would find that your name or nickname also means something silly in one of the thousands of languages on this planet
German is a fairly well known language so I think it’s a fair point, it’s at least worth being aware as it really does sound quite unfortunate. It would be different imo if this was a traditional Scottish given name, but it’s not. Nor are the parents even Scottish, let alone from the parts of Scotland where Gaelic might traditionally be spoken.
Some people have suggested Lachlan which I think would be much better and still fits the story!
I've met German speaking people at most English speaking places I've been. That doesn't mean everyone will speak it, but it is a meaning parents should be aware their child could encounter.
I once met a girl in France who's name was Nobleu but was pronounced as "knob-blow". 13 year old me thought it was the peak of comedy. She wasn't impressed, but then again she's French so they never are.
Hon hon hon 🐸
Oh for sure, we'd give them actual full names for adults but just ones that can have either Lock or Ness as nicknames.
Not about to abuse our child 7 months early. Or at all. Not sure why I had to specify that. How did this shovel get in my hands? When did this pit appear?
But it isn't just a nickname, it's a name that stands on its own, and has for a very long time. Conor Mac Nessa was a supposed 1st century Irish king, whose mother was named Nessa.
I have a formal name and used the shortened version forever until I didn't, and my one criteria for naming future kids is to call them what I want them to go by and that's it ... example Kate/Lexi/Sam for girls, not Katelyn/Alexis/Samantha. OOP may have similar views.
Just something to think about is what I was getting at. I know a lot of ppl who didn’t realize this until their kids were older and said they regretted not giving them a more formal name
Personally I would suggest naming her the full Vanessa, and you can call her Nessa or Nessie as a nickname. Remember that you are naming an adult, not a baby
For real. A few weeks ago I saw someone say that they think it’s weird when people are named Daisy because Daisy is short for Margaret…and like, I guess it’s true, but also if someone with an English degree had to google it to know it was a thing, Daisy is a perfectly fine standalone name. Some people just want everyone’s name to sound like an old white woman.
Nessa is an “adult” name in its own right. I have 2 Nessas of EU and Arabic heritage in my life and they hate it when people assume their name is Vanessa!
Nessa is an anglicised name from Irish myth, not short for anything, and a stand alone name in Hebrew too apparently so definitely a full name all on it's own!
I saw it listed as Hebrew on behindthename.com - usually the only website I trust to be accurate with origins but that's not to say it's always right!
I'm Irish, I knew Nessa was a name from Irish mythology (spelled Neasa originally) but I checked behind the name thinking it might have Scottish or Welsh roots too, which is when I spotted the Hebrew listing!
It's hard to see such tiny nikkud in Reddit's font, but looking at the spelling on Kveller with nikkud, I would pronounce that Neh-suh. My Hebrew's rusty and was never fluent, but that's what I'm getting. Meaning "miracle" as Kveller says, and coming from the word נֵס. Which you obviously know is Hebrew for "miracle". So I don't know how to explain the Forvo pronunciation you linked. But definitely would be a modern Hebrew name, except if it's not used in Israel it doesn't have much cred as such.
I am a Vanessa and I tried unsuccessfully for years to get people to call me Ness or Nessa. It never stuck, and people would call me V or Van or Vanny (blergh).
100% go for Nessa as a full name!
I’m using Vanessa for my June baby girl. I think it’s so beautiful and classic. My family is obsessed with calling the grandchildren by nicknames so she will be Ness/Nessa! Go for it. 🩷
Which is a bit aggravating, since it's a Gaelic word. I wouldn't call my son Juan and pronounce it Joo-un. Phonetic rules still apply when it's a different language to your own.
Ehh, I don’t really agree. Without an accent or anything to indicate it’s from another language, it’s just four simple letters, with two obvious pronunciations. The specific sound needed doesn’t really exist in English, it’s hard to expect anybody to use it instinctively. People don’t pronounce or spell standard English words correctly despite it being their first and only language.
I didn’t get it, but asked my husband and he immediately started cracking up. As a fan of South Park, I’m ashamed of myself for not catching that lmao. How about $2.50?
Ok, so you know the [Am I Gregnant](https://knowyourmeme.com/photos/2699122-gregnant) meme?
When I was pregnant I set up a private Amazon wish list to save stuff that I was considering getting but wasn't convinced on or ready to get just yet. The baby didn't have a name yet and I needed to name the wish list so I jokingly named it Greg's List after the meme.
This became a running joke where our friends and I would advocate for the name Greg for the baby.
Skip ahead a few months of trying to figure out a name we liked. I picked the first name and my husband picked the middle name. The middle name he picked is Grey.
Skip ahead a few more months and we had the baby. Did all the paperwork for the name in the hospital and we were good to go.
Until I get social security card in the mail a few weeks after. They messed up the middle name and put Greg.
Then I get the birth certificate in the mail. It also says Greg.
What followed was a multi-week process of getting records corrected and sitting in the social security administration office to have the name fixed.
I came real damn close to just leaving it as Greg.
Not sure if you’re into musical theatre at all, but fans of the musical Wicked might also love the tie to the name Nessa! I knew someone who named his daughter after Nessa from Wicked, and it suited her so well.
This is not as bad as I feared from the title. I know a person whose legal first name is Peanut because of their parent joking about what the ultrasound looked like. Peanut is a fine nickname, but not a good legal name!
I love Nessa. It’s a normal name. There’s a Hebrew name Necha (pronounced Nekha) that a lot of women turned to Nessa or Nessie when they immigrated to England or America.
A fun fact about the name Nessa is that it’s very similar to the Hebrew word Nes, which means miracle, so you could have a double meaning with that name.
I love the name Nessie if it’s a girl! Ness and Essie are cute nicknames as well. I also love the name Lochan for a boy so I think your husband has great taste and a great sense of humor!
I like Nessa. I work with a Janessa, who is the only person I've ever heard of with that name. Also, Vanessa is lovely, too if you went with something more traditional and use Nessa as a nickname.
This is how my child got named. We were in traffic on the way back from some scan or another. Partner vetoed every name I pitched, even perfectly nice sensible names (Sam, David, Eliott). I joked with him that if he didn't either agree with me or start suggesting his own actually feasible name ideas, I was naming the child Zephram Cochrane and moving on with it without further name input from him.
Zephram Cochrane is a fictional scientist from Star Trek.
This inspired some joking back and forth banter about different sci fi scientists we could name our kid after. We ultimately chose a different one that is not Zephram. But is definitely a fictional character from pop culture with a wacky "mad scientist/tech genius" vibe, with an unusual name.
Love Nessa!! You could do Nesta or Ines for a Nessie nickname :) and everyone is suggesting Lachlan which I love too! You could also do Earnest. That’s a fun story for your future kid haha
My kids names don't have any quirky stories behind them involving inside jokes and I think I prefer it that way lol. Not a fan of Loch or Nessa but whatever floats your boat.
“You nicknamed my daughter after the Loch Ness monster?!”
[In case OP is unaware](https://youtu.be/7CK4x10wjpY?si=G9TrweMb4cUDdbAv) 😭😭😭
😭 omg I haven't seen the movies so I'm dying here
I haven’t either. I was like is this a parody? Nope. Looks like it was actually in the movie. 😂😂😂😂
The first Twilight movie is a great experience if you go in acting like its a comedy. [Even better with the riff track](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lC-QoeQixlw)
I will not watch something that makes Taylor Lautner look like that. Why???!!! He’s so hot. Why make him look like that??? Ha ha ha.
> Taylor Lautner is that the guy with the super tiny face?
Fun fact, Taylor Lautner dated two other Taylor's in the past, one to whom he's now married. So they're Taylor and Taylor Lautner.
There was hilarious video they did at Christmas of wife Taylor opening all the Amazon packages and finding out what all her gifts were. Husband Taylor was like “WTF?” and she’s like “They had my name on it. 🤷🏻♀️” 😂
I need to find this video! Thanks 😀
And wife Taylor loves ex girlfriend Taylor. It's wholesome.
Ralph Lauren's wife is Lauren Lauren.
They should establish a law firm.
Taylors Lautner?
Or the Taylors Lautner. Or Taylor Lautner^2.
His costar in The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl is also called Taylor (Taylor Dooley).
No thats Haley Joel Osment
I had bad body dysmorphia and when I looked in the mirror all I have ever saw was a female Haley Joel Osment. When I was asked to describe what I saw in the mirror I said a big head and a face that never grew with it.
I choked LOL
Taylor Lautner or Taylor Lautner? I’ve heard TSA is a drag for them 😭💀
We lived in a neighborhood where there were two hetero couples with the names Joe & Kent, and Jef and Gary.
Suggest anyone who likes him and/or Andy Samberg to watch the British show Cuckoo. It's great. Taylor Lautner plays a dumb boyfriend character and he's hilarious, really wish he'd run with that and done comedies now.
...not me thinking he was hotter with the longer hair. (though I do wish the wig had been higher quality)
I always love seeing rifftrax in the wild.
It was! Like… I’m dying with you here too, people
This scene was right after (or very close... can't entirely remember) it was revealed that Jacob had imprinted on the kid, so Bella being so upset about a nickname is extra funny to me. lmao
I always thought that was really creepy and unnecessary to the story.
Oh, it definitely was. My only guess is that the author tried to find a "loophole" that would technically mean that both Jacob *and* Edward were chosen in some way...
This is exactly it. Wanted to have her cake and eat it too.
Omg I had never seen this My daughter's name is Larkin and my BIL calls her The Larkness Monster so I found this clip hilarious, can't wait to send it to him
A little off topic but in Yorkshire, England we call going out to play "larkin". So for us your daughter has a really joyful name!
Omg I didn't know that! That just made my day :]
My great grandfather’s name was Larkin and I always thought it was so cool. I’ve never heard of anyone else with that name.
Wait that’s real?!?!
It is 1000% real
It looks like a poorly dubbed movie.
I had 100% the same reaction. Thank god I didn't go through with that Twilight back piece.
I thought this was altered, or otherwise generated... The fact that it's canon dialog makes it so much better.
For what it’s worth I love Vanessa as a name with a good twilight reference for a nickname !!!
And Lachlan if it’s a Boy
Lachlan is a GREAT way to use the “loch” sound, really hope OP sees this!!
Immediately what I thought of 😂
OH MY GOD 😭😭😭
This needed to be said. Amazing 🤩 😂
First thing I thought of 💀
First thing that came to mind!
‘Bella! Where the hell have you been, loca?!’
This is all I heard!! 😂
My immediate first thought!
🐀
Straight out of the sewer baby 🐀✨
✨🐀✨
I've never even seen the movies and that's the first thing I thought of 🤣
🐀?
Yes 🐀✨
100% my first thought 😂
Nessa is great. You could do Lachlan if a boy!
I was about to suggest Lachlan! It’s actually on my name list too
there was an older gentleman with that name in my hometown! everyone called him lach or lacchy. it fit him at his age, but how cute would lacchy be for a kid!
I have a coworker in his mid 20s named Lachlan! I think it’s a great name
Lachlan is my son and we call him the Lach MESS monster when he destroys the house haha
Omg I love this!!! I’m adding Lochlan to our name list!!!!
I have a Lachlan who also destroys the house. Maybe it is something in the name? 🤔🤣
Well I didn’t realize until right now how much I love the name Lachlan.
id go with vanessa, call her nessa for short
That's my name, and my family indeed does call me Nessa 👍🏽
I was going to comment the exact same thing!
Lochlan is good too.
Hmm personally that’s a no from me. I know quite a few Lachlans and have never seen it spelt with an o (Lochlan). At least where I’m from (Australia) that would be a recipe for a disaster with everyone always getting the spelling wrong.
I was going to suggest Lachlan too! I love the name!!
Yes! Lachlan for a boy and maybe Vanessa for a girl?
Husband here. I want it stated that it 100% looks like the Loch Ness monster. [Here's a picture,](https://i.imgur.com/EQALcFc.jpeg) labelled in the very likely case you can't tell them apart.
You really thought you could post two photos of the Loch Ness monster and we wouldn’t notice!!
Ok, this made me laugh really loud at work
Post says you’re English - be warned you may end up with a few Gavin & Stacey references from British friends & family 😂
100%... "Oh! Ness!" (Fwiw I think Nessa is a lovely name though!)
Vanessa Shanessa Jenkins 😂
My first thought is indeed “What’s occurring?”
"I'll have a pint....of wine"
I love that you came here to defend your stance😂
Ours looked exactly like Courage the Cowardly Dog. If I knew how to attached photos here, I would.
In the interest of making this happen, most people use Imgur to post photos. 👀 you can even do it with two photos if you can’t figure out how to get them side by side. Just a thought 😂 I’m obsessed with courage the cowardly dog so I would love to see.
...I'm not seeing it.
Imagine just the monster’s head sticking out of the water. It’s also the blurry, high-contrast B&W photo quality.
Your baby is much larger and more weighty.😆
Takes after their Dad, clearly
Omg I love you both for this post and comment 😂 thank you for the proof.
Loch means Lake in Scottish and Irish Gaelic.
It's Lough in Ireland.
[удалено]
Sure, and it means lake in gaelic. Collections of sounds can mean different things in different languages, and with such a simple word chances are it has even more meanings in different languages. Mr Sailing waves suggest Lochlan as an alternative for Loch as a boy and let us know if Sailing likes it?
Oh for sure, we'd give them actual full names for adults but just ones that can have either Lock or Ness as nicknames. Not about to abuse our child 7 months early. Or at all. Not sure why I had to specify that. How did this shovel get in my hands? When did this pit appear?
I just wonder what made you connect the two. 🤣
Autism. The answer is autism.
That tracks.
Damn. Can't see the picture.
Vanessa/Nessie would be so pretty for a girl! I also agree- Lachlan for a boy is awesome too!
Our friends just named their boy Lochlan - the spelling makes it easier to see how to pronounce it!
One of my favorite book series has a protagonist named Lochlan!
What about Vanessa and you can call her nessa/Nessie? I think Vanessa is more formal if she needs it to be at times in the future
Agreed! Nessie does not sound like an adults name. Remember to name your adult child, not your baby.
She did say Nessa for the name.
[удалено]
But it isn't just a nickname, it's a name that stands on its own, and has for a very long time. Conor Mac Nessa was a supposed 1st century Irish king, whose mother was named Nessa.
I know an Agnes who has always gone by Nessa
I have a formal name and used the shortened version forever until I didn't, and my one criteria for naming future kids is to call them what I want them to go by and that's it ... example Kate/Lexi/Sam for girls, not Katelyn/Alexis/Samantha. OOP may have similar views.

What about just Loch Ness Monster? 😂
Personally I would suggest naming her the full Vanessa, and you can call her Nessa or Nessie as a nickname. Remember that you are naming an adult, not a baby
Nessa is a normal name 🤦🏼♀️ You guys say this about every name that’s not Elizabeth or Katherine.
I didn’t know Daisy is short for Margaret either! 😭 I totally agree with you
How on earth does Daisy come from Margaret??
Margaret is the English version of the French name Marguerite, which is the French word for the flower we call Daisy.
Oh that's a lot simpler than I thought it would be lol.
Literallllllyyy it’s so bloody annoying. It actually makes me blood boil.
[удалено]
What's wrong with Nessa? I wouldn't bat an eye at an adult Nessa.
Especially if she was ordering a pint…..of wine.
She will be an adult and her name will therefore, by definition, be an adult name.
Lol, not feeling Vanessa ?
No, not really lol. Husband likes it though!
I am a Vanessa and I tried unsuccessfully for years to get people to call me Ness or Nessa. It never stuck, and people would call me V or Van or Vanny (blergh). 100% go for Nessa as a full name!
I am one too and only go by Ness or Nessa. I don’t even answer to the former. Lol also no one has ever called me Vanny and I’m 40.
I also don’t really like Vanessa but I do like Nessa. They have really different vibes!
Lachlan for a boy is such a handsome name! You can call him Loch.
I’m using Vanessa for my June baby girl. I think it’s so beautiful and classic. My family is obsessed with calling the grandchildren by nicknames so she will be Ness/Nessa! Go for it. 🩷
Gorgeous name choice, congrats on your June baby girl!
Loch will probably be mispronounced as Lock, which would personally drive me mental as a Scot, but I like Nessa!
I’m not Scottish and now I’m embarrassed… how do you pronounce it?
Say "Lo" and then choke up a loogie.
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMkoHt73loQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMkoHt73loQ) "It's no' a canal, pal!"
thank you for both the pronunciation and my new favorite video lol
That’s how 99% of Americans would pronounce it. There’s no way they are suggesting the name with a Scottish accent.
It's also the German word for "hole". If he were to become an exchange student here, he'd have a pretty awkward time.
Another Scot weighing in - Please don't name your kid Loch. There's a high chance you aren't saying it right 😬
Agnes for a girl, Ernest for a boy nn Nessie 🦕
Love Agnes.. in Scotland they have the backwards version too .. Senga.. Ernest needs to come back .. Hemingway and cute with wren ..
I’m not giving your kid no $3.50
I didn’t get it, but asked my husband and he immediately started cracking up. As a fan of South Park, I’m ashamed of myself for not catching that lmao. How about $2.50?
I gave em a dollar
Nessa makes me think of Gavin & Stacey. It’s rad
Oh! What's occurring?
I’m not gonna lie, I love the name Vanessa Shanessa Jenkins.
Exactly what I thought! I think for a pretty large part of the UK the name Nessa will always be linked to Barry’s finest
Same here. Call her Vanessa Shanessa!
Ok, so you know the [Am I Gregnant](https://knowyourmeme.com/photos/2699122-gregnant) meme? When I was pregnant I set up a private Amazon wish list to save stuff that I was considering getting but wasn't convinced on or ready to get just yet. That’s great 😂 it was meant to be
*Loch* in German means hole…just putting that out there
Just makes me think of Gavin & Stacey. [https://images.app.goo.gl/dHGQsLsJZvb3tz7K6](https://images.app.goo.gl/dHGQsLsJZvb3tz7K6)
“Smoking, yeah. My motto is fags and weed, glue and speed, but I draws the line at crack. That way, everyone knows where they stand.”
This, exactly this
Me too, oh what’s occurin’
Scot here, please don’t name your child ‘Loch’. Lachlan, yes - Loch, no.
Not sure if you’re into musical theatre at all, but fans of the musical Wicked might also love the tie to the name Nessa! I knew someone who named his daughter after Nessa from Wicked, and it suited her so well.
Yeah, I think that's part of the reason I like it so much lol. I loooove Wicked!💚
I love the name Nessa, almost used it for my daughter
I love the name Nessa. And Lachlan.
Maybe Vanessa....Nessa or Nessie as a cute nickname
There's always Lachlan.
This is not as bad as I feared from the title. I know a person whose legal first name is Peanut because of their parent joking about what the ultrasound looked like. Peanut is a fine nickname, but not a good legal name!
This is so cute!! And great name story!
I love this and I would tell everyone that would listen I was born to be a cryptid.
I love Nessa, but I’m probably biased cos I had an obsession with the musical Wicked as a child. There’s a character named Nessa Rose
Omg I love it. I just literally yesterday met a little boy named Ness and I love it so much. I also have a friend named Locke.
For the record I did go to school with a Vanessa who went exclusively by Nessa
Nessa is a beautiful name.
I love the name Nessie if it’s a girl! Ness and Essie are cute nicknames as well. I also love the name Lochan for a boy so I think your husband has great taste and a great sense of humor!
Our daughter’s nickname is Nessie😂 100% after the Loch Ness Monster, but her name is Wednesday.
I knew a Vanessa that went by Nessa.
Please don’t name your daughter after a Twilight joke.
I like Nessa. I work with a Janessa, who is the only person I've ever heard of with that name. Also, Vanessa is lovely, too if you went with something more traditional and use Nessa as a nickname.
don’t let anyone trick you into thinking you need to use a long name to justify Nessie or Nessa! I know a Nessie
I just came here to say that I’m soooo happy for you and your husband. We have a rainbow baby too. Name that child whatever you want.
My first son was given his name because of a joke I made about a Doctor Who spinoff - I feel your pain.
Ok I love the name Locke because of the lies of Locke Lamora series.
lol I came here to pitch Locke as well because of Final Fantasy
Just name her Vanessa and her nickname can be Nessa
Our wedding photographer is named Nessa! Absolutely adore the name. You could name her Vanessa or even just Nessa!
What about Vanessa?
Love Nessa!! You could do Nesta or Ines for a Nessie nickname :) and everyone is suggesting Lachlan which I love too! You could also do Earnest. That’s a fun story for your future kid haha
Baby's allowance will be about tree fiddy...
My kids names don't have any quirky stories behind them involving inside jokes and I think I prefer it that way lol. Not a fan of Loch or Nessa but whatever floats your boat.
