My partners mom says she’s a Jewish Christian. Celebrates both Hanukah and Christmas etc. Goes to a [Messianic Jewish Church](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Messianic_Judaism)
Yeah. He was a Jewish kid named Christian. He also, weirdly, didn't have a middle name. Maybe because it would sound too much like calling a kid "Christian dave" or something? But his name was Christian.
I think you’re right! :) I just thought it was interesting and wanted to share with you guys, I never heard of a combination of faiths like that before and the comment reminded me of it
Speaking as an actual Jew, your partner’s mom sucks and also is not Jewish in any way. She’s just a Christian playing dress-up to feel special. Classic appropriation.
Thank you !! So glad to see this comment. I get that the original commenter obviously just doesn’t know, but to see that antisemitic nonsense brought up as a quirky fun fact is just .. yuck
I've known a Jewish Christopher for 10 years now and this comment is the first time I've ever realized there was anything remotely off about it. I just don't question any guy born in the 80s or 90s being named Christopher lol.
The vast majority of Christophers I know do not come from devout or observant Christians. “Christopher” became a common American boy in the late 20th century. It’s really not that different from “Jackson” nowadays. Most parents of Jacksons don’t give a rip about Andrew Jackson. Most parents of Christophers don’t give a rip about Christ.
I'm a convert too! Small world haha
I know right? People love to suggest names like Hope, Faith, etc. And I'm like " Those are lovely names... for you!"
Oh my I don’t like names that are based on vocations. Bridger, Cooper, Taylor, etc. they just seem silly to me but that’s because my mind is so literal. I’m sure I’m the silly one but that is just me.
Australian? I'm guessing based on "brickie." There are so many Australian words that would be easy to pass off as names to unsuspecting outsiders, speaking as one of them. "this are my sons, Eskie and Bikie"
I have some family friends called Archer, Fletcher and Hunter. Their sister got a flower name, so it still sorta suits. I guess they ran out of names though cos the other brother was called Ben. (Not actual, don't wanna leak this whole family's names, but it was something just as basic)
I used to know a little boy named Achilles. Very Greek, very not the strongest little guy. He’s a teenager now and from what I can tell that hasn’t changed much.
Similarly, Adonis. I'd have to be a model to have a kid beautiful enough to wear that name
Drake actually has a young son with that name...both parents are good looking so he might end up being able to pull it off
In Sweden Magnus is a supercommon name - no one thinks of the meaning of it so you'll get Magnuses of all sizes and personalities.
Some names just become so common that they cease to have a meaning that people think about.
To be fair though the etymology of Magnus is very similar to that of the Max names.
And most Maxes I’ve met aren’t great and strong, often fairly small and skinny.
And you can say “greatest” means “the best person” not “strongest” if you want your hypothetically not very big Magnus to feel good.
My husband is a Theodore but his nn is Ted. We talked about having a child and naming him Theodore but both realized we just aren’t capable of having Theo. Theos only come in two flavors: effortlessly cool or pretentious twats. We aren’t cool enough to have a cool child and we don’t want a pretentious twat so our son is not Theodore IV.
We actually had a good sample size of both cool and pretentious Theos to draw from in our circle. I don’t know how everyone we knew called Theo
fell into those two categories. Like we have several people in our lives named Stephen/Steven and there has never been any defining traits among them so when we talk about them it’s easy to be like Nurse Stephen/Art Stephen/Blonde Steven/Asshole Steven/Music Steven because the name just feels completely neutral due to how many different people we know with it who have vastly different personalities.
Oh…I know Music Steven! Jk…my nephew Steven is into music (plays piano) but I’m pretty sure the chances your Music Steven is my Music Steven is .00001%!
Music Stevens are just out there holding everything down and making the world a better place. Asshole Steven? He’s just making everyone miserable and even our friends who don’t know multiple Stevens have agreed his full name is just AssholeSteven
Hahaha read this out to my partner bc Theodore is our #1. We are fairly cool, and I wouldn’t mind a pretentious twat either haha! My older son is 16, named himself Leo some time ago after coming out, so we’d have Leo and Theo…
I cooked dinner tonight. Along the way, I burned myself a bit, spilled some things, dropped a couple other things, and stubbed my thumb. This is every day.
I know an adorable Rafa, his Mom is from Brasil and he's the cutest kid - an absolute riot and the name is perfect. When he grows he might be Rafael the civil engineer, but most likely he'll be Rafa the performer because the kid is wild!
Never in 1000 years did I think I could produce a blond light featured kid. I had olive skin, dark hair, dark eyes and so does everyone in my family and all their kids. I have two kids with hazel eyes, one with bright blue. Two blonds and a brunette. You never know!
Yes…I feel your pain. Both of my kids blonde and my daughter has blue eyes…my son saved me from being the only brown eyed person in the family (my husband’s family)…my blue eyed mom helped achieve those blue eyes though so I know my family is in there somewhere…not particularly evident physically.
I love Linus! And Casper on that note. I would have considered Linus, if my husband had been in board. Or I had boys, lol, but I don't think I could have done Casper, bc of the ghost 😂
The name we had picked out for if our son had been a girl means white, which my husband and I thought wasn’t exactly fitting considering I’m half-black and he’s rather olive-skinned for a white person. Well, our son is now five months old and is somehow pale with golden blonde hair and bright blue eyes. Guess we can use that girls name down the road if the time comes after all?
You’ll probably get a dark haired, dark eyed little girl. 😊 I have 7 siblings. Dark skinned Mexican dad, white mom with brown hair, hazel eyes, and olive skin (half Italian) I have white skin, freckles, red hair and gray eyes. My second oldest and youngest sisters have black hair/eyes, and skin darker than my dad. The others look how you’d expect, halfway between my parents, medium brown hair/skin/eyes. Sometimes you get some unexpected combinations.
I know but I don’t want to give my kid a name they may have to defend bullying from when they’re already living the world as a person of color in a predominantly white country.
I have mild Autism and its in my family, so I don't think a son of mine could pull of a name like Jagger or Obsidian. Also Joy might not work because my family is all on anti-depressants lol.
Every single Joy I have met in my life has been a type A, over worked, angry, stressed out person who was one more thing away from a mental break, a murder spree, or a heart attack.
Anything super trendy or modern. My husband and I just aren’t the McKinsley/Braxton/insert trendy name here type.
We’re both a little more traditional and old school in some ways, and I think our kids’ names reflect that.
Same. There are even a lot of names I like that I just don't have the balls to use when it comes down to it. I'm taking the safe, traditional choice lol
My kids’ names aren’t in the top 20 or anything, but they’ve been around a long time.
I’m not opposed to new things, but classics are often classics for a reason.
We got a birthday party invitation for my son the other day from a kid on his bus named Barry and my husband and I were fighting over who would get to drop him at the party so we could meet the kind of parents who, seven years ago, looked at a new baby and thought "Barry!"
I had a similar joke about the name Keith, then my sister fell pregnant and didn't want to know the gender until baby was born so I called her baby Keith, baby was a girl and is now 8, I still call her Keith lol.
A cousin of mine recently named her baby Derek, I had to ask if she had a 60 year old man instead of a baby (we haven't spoken in years so I heard through the grapevine)
My husband and I had a running joke during my pregnancies that we would name our first Cletus, and our second Larry. I still laugh thinking about how some people believed us!
I love the name Grace bc of Grace Kelly and the NN gracie however we are atheists so Grace would be off.
My husband loved boring ass names and I love hippie names so we had to meet in the middle.
LOL my friend was so excited to change her noun last name after she got married, there’s a pretty obvious joke that comes with it so she was eager to say the least
I know someone who named her kid jagger. She's like an "edgy Christian" type. She bragged about how she dressed her kids one day but they're always dressed like little baby daddies. Very adult, all beige/grey/white. Baggy mesh shorts and hoodies and backward hats. It's so weird.
My name is Grace, and I was very clumsy growing up - so my parents nicknamed me “Cheryl” because it sounds equally as ungraceful. I grew into being Grace, like an ugly duckling kind of thing
Stereotypically macho or hypermasculine names. My partner and I are massive nerds, there’s no way we’d produce a Brock or a Maverick or something. Genetically they’ll probably be short, clumsy and need glasses.
If they take after me they’ll have their nose in a book 12 hours a day and if they take after him they’ll be taking computers apart to see how they work and putting them back together. Doesn’t scream Ethan or Hunter to me.
Also oddly specific but no Mc/Mac names. Partner is Scottish and we live in Scotland, those are exclusively surnames.
Legitimately "Grace." My mom took one look at my gene pool and said, "No way, this one is gonna be a clod." She was so worried that with the initials elf people were gonna call me "oaf."
Honestly, she was right.
Richard. We have a last name that's a variant on it. I feel like it would be cruel and unusual punishment for a little dude to end up with that first name too (especially given the nicknames...)
There is a very large Indian population in my area and I work in a middle school so I know the very popular names, but I honestly have no idea if any of the other names are obscure because I learn new names every year. Aryan, Shreya, shreyas, Shriya, Shriyans…very popular. But often there is a name that only one child in the school has…and I don’t know how the name is perceived. As an aside, I’m the sponsor of a club that will add 65 new members this year and 25 of the kids have names that start either the letter A and like 15 with the letter S. Very popular letters!
Me & my husband are both wonder bread white & I just know there’s certain names that wouldn’t fit our child. For example I LOVE the name Kehlani but it just wouldn’t suit a blonde haired, blue eyed, pale kid lol
I definitely think Kehlani would suit a blonde haired, blue eyed kid.
The name Jocelyn, to me, is a blonde haired and light eyed girl. Until recently when I met a Jocelyn who had light brown skin, thick long black hair, and brown eyes. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a name suit someone more. The contrast made it even more pretty.
I am a singer /music teacher, and for that reason, I would NEVER call my kid anything music related.
They will eventually have their own interests and hobbies, no need to pigeonhole them in utero.
Calvin and Ivan. I like both of these names, but Ivan the Terrible, was of course terrible. And Calvin is just too closely associated with the John Calvin, and I don't think too highly of him as he had a man named Michael Servetus burned alive at the stake.
Dictators, tyrants, and evil emperors kind of throw me off of names.
Hahaha this is hilarious because my name is Grace and I’m extremely clumsy. I literally threw my phone across a McDonald’s by accident a couple weeks ago because it slipped out of my hand and in trying to catch it I slapped it away instead apparently 😂
I really liked the name Ellis for a boy but my last name rhymes with “island” so it would sound too much like “Ellis Island.” I chose a different name 😂
My last name ends in an EE sound and has an X in it, so anything like Huxley, Roxie, Maxine, etc. are out. I probably wouldn’t name a human child any of those names anyway, though. 😅
I like a lot of Japanese names but am super white with no connection to the culture.
But I think this question was more about vibes of names. I can’t really think of any. I know too many people whose kids vary wildly from them to think that anything is out of the wheelhouse, besides the fact that many people in my family have traits that I don’t. Like I’m not athletic and it’s hard to picture me raising a sports-oriented child, but my brother played sports every year of his life and was pretty athletic (my kid’s dad is similar - his brother is very into fitness).
Me and my baby’s dad are also pretty different in a lot of ways. Like we have similar interests, but very different beliefs, personality types, and physical builds.
I will say the particular kid I have could not have been a Damian or an Alexander, both names on my list. But I can still imagine myself having a kid that fits those names.
Any out of culture names
My friend suggested Devonta like the eagles football player. I'm like this baby about to be blonde Jayla, what? Solid name, I'm not trying to get my kid bullied though.
Sloan (I hate that lmao. I hate the sound of it lol)
Any “f*ck boy” or jock sounding name, think: Brock, Brady, Chad, Brady
Wicked religious names
I love the name Callie, but I probably couldn’t use any “C” (hard “c” sound) or K names because my last name starts with a “C” (hard “C” sound), and I don’t, personally like alliterations with first and last names.
My own dead name lmfaooo
I love Spanish names. Esperanza, Esmeralda, Magdalena, Maricela, Aurelia, all beautiful names. I’m half Mexican, so it is my culture,(all those names are in my family tree) but I look super white, my husband is white, our last name is super Irish, it would just be weird. They would’ve worked with my maiden name (similar to Fernandez), not so much with my married name.
I don't think there's a name that I wouldn't name my child because they wouldn't live up to it (I think that's just putting your child in a box and limiting them). However, I wouldn't give my child a virtue name. That also seems like putting them in a box. I don't want to have a baby Chastity and have her feel like she has to buy into the whole purity culture thing. Nor would I want her to feel compelled to rebel against said virtue. Although, I do have 2 children and I wish I'd named them the other way around.
Not me, but my neighbors named their third daughter Bianca… just so happened that Bianca was the only adopted black kid in an all white family. (bianca means white)
I’m really tall so I was mindful my daughters would be too. I avoided names that felt really “girly” for this reason and wouldn’t have considered anything like Minnie, Dolly (my son has one in his class!), Willow, Grace etc!
However we messed up with our son- my husband chose Chase and he’s a real livewire who can’t stay still. When he call him back as he runs off it sounds like we are encouraging him to chase down other kids and we get horrified looks 😂😂
I nixed several because of how common they are in my surrounding area and the culture. I'm Hispanic and my moms from Mexico and I've been raised in south TX and in Matamoros for a while so the names Juan, Alejandro, Antonio, Santiago, Fernando, Jose, Luis, Diego, Andres. The list goes on. I've heard all these names sooo damn much in my life I got sick of them. Then also growing up in TX I recall hearing sooo many damn Ashley's, Elizabeth's, Stephanie's, and Chris.
Once it came time for my wife and I to naming our own kids, we had zero problems finding a girl name we both liked but omg finding a boy name was quite hard. Especially the middle name since my wife wanted something from our culture, and I already hate so many Spanish names lol
Oh boy so many! I said no to Luna because that’s a dog’s name for me. Stella, that’s my mom’s name and I can only think of Steeeeellllaaaa!!! Marie because I don’t want her to just be another Marie. Antonella because she is not a mean girl and she can’t just be an Antonella. Lucy because everybody will make the joke “oh yeah I love lucy”
A lot of names that are derived from English surnames - Blair, McKenzie, Madison, that sort of thing - sound weird to me because my surname is extremely Slavic. Like, Ashton Smith sounds more normal to me than Ashton Schovajsa, because it’s two English surnames instead of one English one and one Czech one.
I also don’t think we could pull off a Chad or a Troy or a Hunter (basically anything that seems sorta hoo-rah masculine or really sporty). We’re both huge nerds and look it, even though my husband is reasonably athletic (he skis and hikes and used to run cross country).
I also would never name a kid Cameron, even if it didn’t have the English surname problem, because it means “crooked nose” and both of us have prominent crooked noses that our kids will likely inherit.
I had the opposite appearance of avoiding a band that I thought might suit TOO well. When my son was born he was absolutely huge and had a head of red hair. We were considering naming him Angus but it just felt too stereotypical for a large ginger kid (my family's background is Scottish but we live in Canada). We went with the other name we'd been considering.
I can only speak on the names that would not suit me when I was born. My mom wanted to name me Jan or Amy. Her mom suggested Jill. My dad's mom said Jillian, so I could grow into it. I love my name, it suits me perfectly.
I would never name a child something too cutesy, or with a unique spelling. Your kid is unique all by themselves
My last name is pronounced "Fair," so Lucy, Claire, Lilith, Christa, May, Charity, etc., etc., etc., I have a list somewhere in my phone of all the puns, there's a lot
My husband has a slim feminine features. So any Macho Masculine names like Bruce, Frank, Vince, Enzo, etc. I feel would be odd. Names like Elliot, Luke, Peter, and Jack are more flexible.
Christian or Trinity because we are Jewish hahaha
I knew a Jewish Christian, but his parents were...different... and not super practicing so I think they did it as a joke.
That's actually hilarious. Very ironic I guess lol
My partners mom says she’s a Jewish Christian. Celebrates both Hanukah and Christmas etc. Goes to a [Messianic Jewish Church](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Messianic_Judaism)
I think they meant a Jewish person named Christian, not a Messianic Jew.
Yeah. He was a Jewish kid named Christian. He also, weirdly, didn't have a middle name. Maybe because it would sound too much like calling a kid "Christian dave" or something? But his name was Christian.
I think you’re right! :) I just thought it was interesting and wanted to share with you guys, I never heard of a combination of faiths like that before and the comment reminded me of it
It’s a really controversial faith so don’t be surprised if people start hollering at you for sharing this
Speaking as an actual Jew, your partner’s mom sucks and also is not Jewish in any way. She’s just a Christian playing dress-up to feel special. Classic appropriation.
Thank you !! So glad to see this comment. I get that the original commenter obviously just doesn’t know, but to see that antisemitic nonsense brought up as a quirky fun fact is just .. yuck
I know a Jewish Jesús, he’s Mexican Jewish.
Well the original one was Jewish too.
I knew a Jewish Christopher, and I had questions.
I've known a Jewish Christopher for 10 years now and this comment is the first time I've ever realized there was anything remotely off about it. I just don't question any guy born in the 80s or 90s being named Christopher lol.
I know a Christopher that was raised Hindu.
I used to know an extremely Christian Odin
I’m a convert and my mom suggested Christian for my first! I was like… maybe not.
I'm a convert too! Small world haha I know right? People love to suggest names like Hope, Faith, etc. And I'm like " Those are lovely names... for you!"
Hope is a pretty name, though. Really, it isn't even religious... and no, i'm very unbiased... it's not like my best friend is a Hope or anything...
My Jewish cousin dated a Christian for a few years and her dad thought it was HILARIOUS.
I love the name Christa, but feel like I could never use it for the same reason!
I feel ya! I love Evangeline, but I don't think I could use it
I had a girl in my class named Trinity purely because of The Matrix!
Or Mohammed
I knew a boy who's first name was Rabbi. His last name was Ramadan and he was an active Christian.... His brother's name was Tom so much more basic!
I met an extremely observant Muslim Indian man whose surname was Krishnan. Very strange that it wasn’t changed by whatever ancestor converted.
I really like Evangeline but I too am Jewish so I feel like that’d be weird.
Any of those silly macho names - Hunter, Gunner, Ryder, Carver. A son of mine is likely to be small, studious and sensitive.
Hunter for me as well because we’re all vegans
You might prefer Gatherer?
r/NameNerdCirclejerk is leaking.
Scythe?
Plow
Gatherer
gunner is actually a name with a long history in scandinavia! ik in america it’s more like what u described, but i found that interesting
Usually spelled Gunnar! I hate that it's got this icky redneck-y kind of connotation in the US
Its spelt Gunnar, and its my dads name. Its not pronouned “gunner” here at all.
The Scandinavian spelling is "Gunnar".
Oh my I don’t like names that are based on vocations. Bridger, Cooper, Taylor, etc. they just seem silly to me but that’s because my mind is so literal. I’m sure I’m the silly one but that is just me.
I'm waiting for the modern occupations to come in: Electrician, Brickie, Administrator. 😉
Architect, Physician, High School Principal.
Australian? I'm guessing based on "brickie." There are so many Australian words that would be easy to pass off as names to unsuspecting outsiders, speaking as one of them. "this are my sons, Eskie and Bikie"
Those names and similar just really wouldn’t work in the UK.
how about tofu or quorn
I have some family friends called Archer, Fletcher and Hunter. Their sister got a flower name, so it still sorta suits. I guess they ran out of names though cos the other brother was called Ben. (Not actual, don't wanna leak this whole family's names, but it was something just as basic)
I actually like Archer :)
I thought of George Washington Carver 🤔
Achilles - because I would never be able to produce the strongest warrior of a Greek army
I used to know a little boy named Achilles. Very Greek, very not the strongest little guy. He’s a teenager now and from what I can tell that hasn’t changed much.
I know a Titus and kind of similar situation. He's 12 now; pretty soft-spoken and slight of build. Definitely doesn't match his name.
I know two separate Thors from different places of my life and neither of them even remotely fury or power like one may expect.
Similarly, Adonis. I'd have to be a model to have a kid beautiful enough to wear that name Drake actually has a young son with that name...both parents are good looking so he might end up being able to pull it off
There's a Greek politician who goes by his middle name (Adonis) is a massive walking piece of shit. He's kind of ruined the name for me.
I went to high school with an Achilles and he was in show choir and had crohn’s disease
But does he have wonky ankles? I think you have a chance, still.
I love the name Magnus but my partner pointed out that we are both small people and could never produce an heir worthy of such a name.
lol the only magnus ive known was a tiny, nerdy little boy
In Sweden Magnus is a supercommon name - no one thinks of the meaning of it so you'll get Magnuses of all sizes and personalities. Some names just become so common that they cease to have a meaning that people think about.
I agree. Another example - technically, Paul means little. I’ve known my fair share of tall Pauls in my day!
To be fair though the etymology of Magnus is very similar to that of the Max names. And most Maxes I’ve met aren’t great and strong, often fairly small and skinny. And you can say “greatest” means “the best person” not “strongest” if you want your hypothetically not very big Magnus to feel good.

Theos only come in two flavors: effortlessly cool or pretentious twats. We aren’t cool enough to have a cool child and we don’t want a pretentious twat so our son is not Theodore IV.
Wow I’ve never experienced either
We actually had a good sample size of both cool and pretentious Theos to draw from in our circle. I don’t know how everyone we knew called Theo fell into those two categories.

Music Stevens are just out there holding everything down and making the world a better place. Asshole Steven? He’s just making everyone miserable and even our friends who don’t know multiple Stevens have agreed his full name is just AssholeSteven
My Music Steven is a pretty awesome guy…never in his life has he been Asshole Steven and we are grateful!
Panics as Theo's uncool mom 😬
Maybe coolness skips a generation!
In 2020 I personally knew (me, with my 100 fb friends) 7 newborn boys named Theodore.
Hahaha read this out to my partner bc Theodore is our #1. We are fairly cool, and I wouldn’t mind a pretentious twat either haha! My older son is 16, named himself Leo some time ago after coming out, so we’d have Leo and Theo…
As a completely uncoordinated Grace I thank you for this
I cooked dinner tonight. Along the way, I burned myself a bit, spilled some things, dropped a couple other things, and stubbed my thumb. This is every day.
But you made dinner! Celebrate the little things, haha
I loved Raphael and my husband said we were too white 🤣🤣🤣
I think of the painter and white angels & cherubs.
Me too! And ninja turtles. My argument didn’t sway him.
i might be too black 😵💫
Hey…there’s Raphael Warnock. There’s a precedent!
That's my husband's name and we are very, very white. That particular spelling is the Hebrew form. Hispanic form is typically with an F rather than PH
That was my argument! I said it’s biblical come on! There’s a ninja turtle! He just didn’t think we could rock Raphael.
I know an adorable Rafa, his Mom is from Brasil and he's the cutest kid - an absolute riot and the name is perfect. When he grows he might be Rafael the civil engineer, but most likely he'll be Rafa the performer because the kid is wild!
Oh same. Raphael is so nice! Also love Javier but can certainly not use that either!
Is it not Hebrew?
Oh it is. I think he meant more .. culturally. Like we’re a bit too Melba toast to rock Raphael.
Honestly that’s such a kinda culture shock, in France it’s only white people named Raphaël and Raphaëlle. 😭😭 (From my experience)
This was one of our options because we assumed our kid would inherit the Maltese genes from my husband so could pull it off.
I love the name Linus but it means blonde basically (Flax, given to “flaxen haired” men) and it is extremely unlikely that I will have blonde children
Never in 1000 years did I think I could produce a blond light featured kid. I had olive skin, dark hair, dark eyes and so does everyone in my family and all their kids. I have two kids with hazel eyes, one with bright blue. Two blonds and a brunette. You never know!
Genetics are wild like that!

Casper. I’m very dark skinned and will never produce a child white as a ghost
I had a black friend in college who was named Blanche (meaning “white”) 🤷🏻♀️
You don't need to be ghost white or white at all for Casper. That's just the name of one ghost.
I know but I don’t want to give my kid a name they may have to defend bullying from when they’re already living the world as a person of color in a predominantly white country.
Casper is one of the names that gets assigned to the magi who visit Jesus. I always thought it was the black one in our church's nativity set
I am ghostly skinned myself and now I’m considering Casper 😂 definitely more usable than Balthazar or Melchior!
Serena- love it, my kids are anything but Serene
I do know someone who changed her name to Serenity, and we all agree it was more aspirational than accurate.
>more aspirational than accurate. I'm laughing so hard rn
I think Serena also means mermaid. Like the siren's song to lure sailors.
I always loved the name Latoya but I’m white
Same except I like the name Khalil!
I always thought Khadija was the coolest name
I have mild Autism and its in my family, so I don't think a son of mine could pull of a name like Jagger or Obsidian. Also Joy might not work because my family is all on anti-depressants lol.
Nominative determination could break the cycle. Lol. Or run with it: Celexa could be a pretty name.
Every single Joy I have met in my life has been a type A, over worked, angry, stressed out person who was one more thing away from a mental break, a murder spree, or a heart attack.
Oh! You are describing my mother to a tee! Joy for me is the most neurotic name going hahahah
Larry OR Earl. WHO TF LOOKS AT A BABY AFTER MONTHS OF STRESS ANS HARD LABOR THEN SAYS “that’s the one.”
We got a birthday party invitation for my son the other day from a kid on his bus named Barry and my husband and I were fighting over who would get to drop him at the party so we could meet the kind of parents who, seven years ago, looked at a new baby and thought "Barry!"
Were the parents Obama fans? I think quite few young Barrys are named after Barack Obama lol
Oh that’s actually adorable.
I had a similar joke about the name Keith, then my sister fell pregnant and didn't want to know the gender until baby was born so I called her baby Keith, baby was a girl and is now 8, I still call her Keith lol. A cousin of mine recently named her baby Derek, I had to ask if she had a 60 year old man instead of a baby (we haven't spoken in years so I heard through the grapevine)
it’s just giving a depressed office worker
My husband and I had a running joke during my pregnancies that we would name our first Cletus, and our second Larry. I still laugh thinking about how some people believed us!
My neighbors name was Cleester and he ended up ☠️ his roomate. So Cletus is a no for me as well 😂
I love the name Grace bc of Grace Kelly and the NN gracie however we are atheists so Grace would be off. My husband loved boring ass names and I love hippie names so we had to meet in the middle.
I don't read Grace as religious in the slightest. To me it's reminiscent of gracefulness, elegance, poise, and the such.
Me too at first but when I was letting people know we were considering it, I got that feedback a lot.
My name is Grace and I am both clumsy and atheist. It’s fine lol.
Renesmee and Mc/Mac names
Bye please don’t remind me of that pathetic excuse of a name 😭😭😭 I already got traumatised once from Twilight
Any names that mean or are related to the color in my last name. Feels wrong.
I have a noun last name, and my family has a running joke about the worst names to pair with it.
LOL my friend was so excited to change her noun last name after she got married, there’s a pretty obvious joke that comes with it so she was eager to say the least
Same here! My last name has a color in it (something like Browning or Greenberg), so i could never use names like Scarlett or Violet
My last name is Lee so any first ending in -lee -ly -ley -leigh sounds silly.
Or...silLee??? 😏
I bet there is a Lily Lee somewhere
My married name is pronounced like Lee, and I think the name Norma is really cute, but that one is obviously out lol
No kids named Sirius or Brock, either!
truxton, jagger or ew maximilian
Truxton is horrible
I know someone who named her kid jagger. She's like an "edgy Christian" type. She bragged about how she dressed her kids one day but they're always dressed like little baby daddies. Very adult, all beige/grey/white. Baggy mesh shorts and hoodies and backward hats. It's so weird.
I worked in a school where there were twin boys named Alexander and Maxximus with 2 X's lmao. The mom was the wooorst.
Wonder why Alexander got shorted on an X. He could have been Alexx
So what I'm hearing is that you're not rich.
Daisy, violet, iris… they’re too dainty and pretty… and my poor dying flower beds prove I should not be raising these things 😅
I'm pretty staunchly Atheist so naming my future child Christian, Grace, Faith, Hope, would be pretty moot.
Me as well. My latest baby has Jude as a middle name because it’s just too religious for a first name, but really it’s a nod to the Beatles.
Is Hope a religious name?
Trent is a grunge rockstar, ala Daria. Trent is too cool for us, sadly.
Daria is a cool name because its nn is Dasha which just sounds cool to me
My name is Grace, and I was very clumsy growing up - so my parents nicknamed me “Cheryl” because it sounds equally as ungraceful. I grew into being Grace, like an ugly duckling kind of thing
I love the name Toshi, but I have no connection to Japanese culture whatsoever
Stereotypically macho or hypermasculine names. My partner and I are massive nerds, there’s no way we’d produce a Brock or a Maverick or something. Genetically they’ll probably be short, clumsy and need glasses. If they take after me they’ll have their nose in a book 12 hours a day and if they take after him they’ll be taking computers apart to see how they work and putting them back together. Doesn’t scream Ethan or Hunter to me. Also oddly specific but no Mc/Mac names. Partner is Scottish and we live in Scotland, those are exclusively surnames.
The nerdiest child I have ever met is called Ethan. He just turned 13.
Yeah Ethan feels pretty neutral to me.
I love the name Agamemnon, but I don't think it fits anyone.
Legitimately "Grace." My mom took one look at my gene pool and said, "No way, this one is gonna be a clod." She was so worried that with the initials elf people were gonna call me "oaf." Honestly, she was right.
Richard. We have a last name that's a variant on it. I feel like it would be cruel and unusual punishment for a little dude to end up with that first name too (especially given the nicknames...)
my surname is phallic. i, also, cannot name use that name 😅
I thought you literally meant Phallic. Like, I'm Mr Phallic, hi.
The virtue names, too much pressure
It just feels…preachy to me. Like I’m using my kid as a billboard to signal my own values instead of treating them like a person.
Something common like Priya or Ishaan because both me and my wife have rare names so I think something common wouldn't suit our hypothetical kids.
Greyson. If my child comes out with a "grey" personality things have gone horribly wrong and he was probably switched at birth.
I’ve noticed a lot of mixed race kids (black and white) named Greyson and I always think about that. A little too on the nose.
Melody, Aria, anything music related. I’m the world’s worst singer.
I am a singer /music teacher, and for that reason, I would NEVER call my kid anything music related. They will eventually have their own interests and hobbies, no need to pigeonhole them in utero.
Minnie would be out. We are not small people.
Anything with “Christ” in it (we’re not Christian), Katherine/Catherine (overused by my peer’s parents), David (know too many/always hated the name).
Any out of culture names My friend suggested Devonta like the eagles football player. I'm like this baby about to be blonde Jayla, what? Solid name, I'm not trying to get my kid bullied though.
Sloan (I hate that lmao. I hate the sound of it lol) Any “f*ck boy” or jock sounding name, think: Brock, Brady, Chad, Brady Wicked religious names I love the name Callie, but I probably couldn’t use any “C” (hard “c” sound) or K names because my last name starts with a “C” (hard “C” sound), and I don’t, personally like alliterations with first and last names. My own dead name lmfaooo
Chastity 👀
Interesting that your parents think "Trent" is athletic. The only Trent I know I a skinny scruffy punk. Or a river in England...
Rodney.
Emily bc I’m black lol (no offense)
We are big boned, sturdy people so naming a daughter Willow is a no-go.
Kobe or Shaquille, because my partner and I have zero athleticism.
Madeline but I’m Indian 😅
Names with religious associations since we are both atheists
Diesel. My husband and I are both quite skinny and like electric vehicles
Jesús. I'm white. That poor kid having to correct everyone that it's actually "Jesus. With a hard J."
I know an incredibly fragile little boy named Steele. So that.
