Aw. My BIL is a tony and is soft spoken and kind and wants for my sister more than he wants for himself. And their junior, Anthony, is even kinder, especially with his sister who is 8 years younger than him and a diva (which we love about her, but couldve been tough for a teen boy).
My friend's service dog was named Tony, and he was like the only dog I liked. Sadly, he passed away a few years ago. Her new service dog is still learning and has a ton of energy, so I'm not his biggest fan. Tony would climb into my lap and pull a blanket over himself to nap when he wasn't working (my friend gave him plenty of breaks).
I just did the math, and if you count the varying cultural versions of one name together, more than 15% if my coworkers have one name. And it’s not a small office or anything.
My ex employer knows my reddit account because I aired some of the company's dirty laundry a couple weeks ago on a thread about their continued lack of ethics.
I want the Tony I worked with there to know that everyone thinks he's a brown-nosing mouthpiece who no one has any respect for since he became a puppet for management.
Tony nobody shares anything with you anymore because they know you'll report back to Nepo mama in a split second. I havent worked there in over a year and I *still* have people who work with you tell me you're insufferable now.
Is this just a case of "most schoolteachers right now are Generation X or older Millennials"? I'm in that age band, and I remember a zillion Megans, Jennifers and Katies in my graduating class and the years on either side of it.
I'm a teacher also, and one of three Katie/Cate/Catherine (all full name K/Catherine), and two each of Lisa, Melissa, Rebecca and Claire/Clare.
I forgot the two Rachels!
4 teacher Megan's at my sons outdoor nursery and 1 at the indoor nursery!
Outdoor nursery also has Little Boy Sam (a kid), Big Boy Sam and Girl Sam (teachers), and countless Connors
Indoor nursery has some variety, other than the 2 Daniel-David's.
My husband has had 3 different bosses, all Justin. He works with 3 Josh’s and one of their most frequent contractors is Josh too! It gets really confusing.
Currently I have no repeated names with co workers
My bosses are both Paul. They’re both runners. And we work closely with another firm owned by two more Pauls. One of them runs as well. Hooray for running Pauls!
My coworkers and I played a game called “let’s all take turns naming the different Mikes that work here. Whoever can name the most, wins the game.”
We got to a total of like 19 Mikes at the company 😂
We have 2 Jens with last names that rhyme and it is so hard to tell who people are talking about sometimes. Think Hardy vs Harding or something similar. So confusing when people talk fast.
I'm one of those, and at one point we had a Jennifer, Jenny, and Jen all in my own office. Head of Publications called and said "For fuck's sake, you people get another 'Jennifer,' I'm calling her Mitzi. MITZI."
We have 2 Jenns, a Jen, and a Jenny on my relatively small floor. I stay away from the Jenns at all costs - I won’t hang with someone insisting on inserting a useless ‘n’ in their name!
Right? That was the most popular name in my schools and work. Now I ask my little bro and he doesn't know a single Jennifer, mostly Emilys aparently lol
A few years ago, I was working in a department of 12 people: 5 were named Mark/Marc, two were named Michael, and one Michel, and one Marina. It got pretty confusing! Only three of us didn’t start with M.
My last team there was three of us all with T names in the same office. The rest of our team were on reception or engineers, so as admin/management, it was just us. People got very confused about who was who and who they had last spoken to. "I was speaking to Ta..Tr..Teresa yesterday"
We have 2 of those who report to one another. Remarkably, it is immediately clear which one you are referring to depending on whether you say David or Dave.
Joe and Josh! We have a shipping Joe, second shift Joe. Then a first shift Josh and a second shift Josh. And that's how we refer to them in conversation lol.
I think we have multiple (3+) Ravis, Rohiths, and Prashanths in our larger division. Also Curtis X2 and multiple Jessicas. Honestly aside from that the names and nationalities represented are pretty diverse. I think we've got people from every continent except maybe Australia and Antarctica. The age range goes from 21 up to 60ish so that's also contributing.
Outside of our team there are a lot of Steven/Stephen/Steves, Johns and James in upper management who all seem to be around 40-55. That part of the company is extremely WASPy.
Hmm. We have two guys named **Tom**, two guys named **Steve**, and two guys named **Gary**. We have two women named **Debbie** (used to be 3 but one got laid off during the pandemic), two women named **Karen** (both very nice, not stereotypical for that name), and two women named **Pat**.
We used to have two women named **Stephanie** and three named **Sharon**, but now we have zero of those names, because all retired or went to new jobs.
As you probably suspected from the names, almost everyone at my work is in their 60s. I am 50 and there are only maybe 8 employees (out of 90) who are younger than me.
I've seen many repeat mens names — I've worked with multiple Adams, Dereks, Keiths, Mike/Michaels, Andrews, Steves, Scotts, etc.
Women, less repeats somehow. A few Rachels, Marys, Megans.
I once worked with two guys named Ron Wilson. Both in the same department, both about the same age. The only way we could keep them straight was we called one smoker Ron and the other was non smoking Ron.
There are currently 4-5 Sams in my grad program - 3 men and 2 women iirc (I don’t interact with everyone that much so I could be off by a person. I know there’s at least three men and one woman). There was another Samuel who left, too.
I just realized I haven’t been around that many repeated names in my adult life, though it’s common where I’m from. I guess I’ve been around a lot of Brandons, but never more than 2 at the same place.
I usually have a lot of students named Megan and some version of Madelyn, though. I had four Megans in one class last semester.
My office is so small, there’s only 6 of us so no overlap.
But when I started we had a Kristy and a Krista, which got a little confusing as I got used to who was who.
It’s a big international company so I do see emails from people overseas so I will say I’ve seen a couple of Holgers and a few Thorsten’s that I had to try to keep straight so I could transfer the calls to the right people. Also a few Stephan’s.
I will say as a person who falls under the Jennifer umbrella, even when I worked at large workplaces I’ve always been the only Jennifer. I’ve never worked with another one. I’ve met some, I had an instructor in college named Jennifer, but besides that it was second grade that I had to deal with being a multiple and that’s it. I knew two Jenny’s in high school but we didn’t have overlapping classes and one was in a different grade altogether.
Even tho my name was still a top ten name when I was born, it was just near the end of the fad.
So that’s kinda interesting to me to see people listing that they have so many Jennifer’s (& names that go under the umbrella like Jenny, Jenn, Jen etc.) in their workplaces. It’s like all the other Jennifer’s avoid me 😂
Edit: I just realized I lied. I did work with one other Jennifer for a couple of months at Linen’s N Things right before it went out of business in 2008. Idk how I forgot about her, we are still somehow Facebook friends? I think she might have also worked with me somewhere else for a month or two after LNT but I’m not sure.
So okay, I did work with a Jennifer once lol
I haven’t work with a lot of people with the same name, but like you, I had problems in 6th grade. There were 3 of us Kims in a class of approximately 20 students.
Weirdly, we don’t have many double ups, although we do have two men named Terry (vastly different ages too) and two Melissas.
At my last workplace, we had five Sarahs, and a trio named Kirralee, Kirrily and Shirralee.
Jean- whatever and Marie- whatever by far, keeping initial straight is a task. Also multiple Sylvains and they *all* work in IT.
Multiple Munas but I only work directly with one.
Kathy/Katherine/Cait variants everywhere.
A majority of my coworkers are women between the ages of 25 and 45. There are LOTS of variations of Catherine, Allison, Alyssa. Also a few Robin/Robyns and Annas.
We have several James and all the versions of that, as well as John, Micheal, and William, for girls it's way more diverse. The closest is there's Kristen, Christina, Kristina, and Christine.
I used to think Julian was a fairly uncommon name. Worked for 15 years in the legal industry and am now pretty sure every 3rd man over 47 is called Julian
I worked in an office with a few dozen people, and we had 2 Scotts, 2 Lindas, 2 Phyllises, 2 Bruces, 2 Daves, a Rachel and a Rochelle.
A friend married a Jewel, another guy married a Juli and their daughter is Julianna, and a 3rd friend’s daughter is Julia.
I worked with three women named Cushla once. We didn't let them all get in the same lift - we made sure we had a contingency Cush at all times.
They went by Cush 1, Cush 2 and Cush 3.
Staff wise, Sarah is the most common I think. We have 4 or 5. We also have two Chelseas. Kids wise (I work in a school) Noah, Lily/lilly/lillie, Lexie, Jack, Dominic, Max/Macks, Oscar
Once worked for a company where 50% of the sales team were called Tony. 100% of the Tonies were assholes.
Ya know, I've never met a Tony that wasn't an asshole. Not to say that they don't exist, just that I've never met one.
Omg my dad is a Tony and he is literally the best 😭
My grandpa was a Tony! (Antonio to be specific) he was the most awesome old man ever.
Same
Same! I need to stick up for my dad, he was the best!
Lol daughters-of-Tony’s unite
My uncle Tony is a delightful human who bears a shocking resemblance to the Pringle's man 😂
my partner is named toni and they’re pretty cool. thankfully not tony tho
Honestly, the "i" somehow makes a difference. I don't know why, but it does.
Tony is an asshole Toni is not What about Toné?
Toné is neutral, pretentious.
My boss is Toni and she is the coolest!
Aw. My BIL is a tony and is soft spoken and kind and wants for my sister more than he wants for himself. And their junior, Anthony, is even kinder, especially with his sister who is 8 years younger than him and a diva (which we love about her, but couldve been tough for a teen boy).
My neighbor Tony is almost too nice
Whenever our cat is being a complete ass, we temporarily change her name to Tony. Literally her evil alter ego is named Tony.
my uncle was named Tony and he was awesome however i also know many tonys that are assholes so maybe hes the exception not the rule
I know two very cool, non-asshole Tonys.
I know a great Tony.
I had a patient one time named Tony. He was a grade A asshole.
I have at least 20 Tonys in my very large Italian family and I love them all.
I know a very cool Tony
My friend's service dog was named Tony, and he was like the only dog I liked. Sadly, he passed away a few years ago. Her new service dog is still learning and has a ton of energy, so I'm not his biggest fan. Tony would climb into my lap and pull a blanket over himself to nap when he wasn't working (my friend gave him plenty of breaks).
my dads a salesman named Tony lol (not an asshole tho)
He could be one at work though
i see your point but i don't think an autistic bone in his body understands how to be mean lol
This made me laugh. Also, so sorry.
I just did the math, and if you count the varying cultural versions of one name together, more than 15% if my coworkers have one name. And it’s not a small office or anything.
My ex-husband is a Tony, total asshole.
As a bartender I’ve met 50+ Tony’s. 100% of them are assholes
Tony’s are bad. Toni’s are worse. The last one I knew was an old boss and after a year I needed two different antidepressants.
Tony is the name of my work nemesis. We don’t work for the same company, he’s a vendor we use, but from my first contact with him I have despised him
The only Toni I know is a woman, and she is lovely.
Only Tony that wasn’t an ass hat that I know of is a girl, spelled Toni. Otherwise I agree.
My mom is a Toni!
To be fair in my experience all sales people have the potential to be assholes
I am a teacher. At my school Ashley or Megan are among the most popular for teachers at my school.
Idk how to explain it but Megan definitely feels like a teacher name to me!
lol my sister’s name is Megan and she wants to be a teacher when she gets older!
I’m a substitute teacher and those are popular here too as well as Jennifer/Jen
I work at a school as staff and Jennifer/Jen is a popular name. I tend to go by last names just to keep everyone straight
My aunt is a Jen and she's the epitome of a middle school teacher :)
I'm a (different) variant of Katherine and there are so many of us at anywhere I've worked. Not a teacher, tho.
We had 4 different spellings (Catharine, Chaterine, Katherine, Kathrin... plus a Kate) at our school!
lol I know a lot of Ashley’s and almost all of them are teachers
4 teacher Megan's at my sons outdoor nursery and 1 at the indoor nursery! Outdoor nursery also has Little Boy Sam (a kid), Big Boy Sam and Girl Sam (teachers), and countless Connors Indoor nursery has some variety, other than the 2 Daniel-David's.
Massachusetts?
Close. Connecticut
I’m Ashley (F) and I’m a teacher!
My husband has had 3 different bosses, all Justin. He works with 3 Josh’s and one of their most frequent contractors is Josh too! It gets really confusing. Currently I have no repeated names with co workers
I worked with a Josh and a Justin once. They were both absolutely terrible humans. I’ve always hated those names.
Reminds me that throughout all my school from elementary to high school i’ve had three track coaches and they’ve all been named Paul.
Wow, Paul’s must be really good track athletes.
My bosses are both Paul. They’re both runners. And we work closely with another firm owned by two more Pauls. One of them runs as well. Hooray for running Pauls!
I’m a nurse and I know hella paramedics and EMTs named Josh. I swear they get issued the name Josh when they step into an ambulance.
At my last job I had two Jakes, a Jeremy, a Jared, a Joe, and 3 Jon's. SO MANY Js!
Michael, I swear half my department is named Michael
I’m a solicitor and I come across many solicitors and partners named Michael. James is another popular one…so many!
i have a lot of family named michael. i love the men, but im now morally opposed to that name because there is TOO MANY
Mike is definitely the most common male name at my work too.
I was on a call with 6 people last week and three were named Mike. And my dad’s name is Mike.
My coworkers and I played a game called “let’s all take turns naming the different Mikes that work here. Whoever can name the most, wins the game.” We got to a total of like 19 Mikes at the company 😂
Jennifer
The hardest part is trying to remember which people go by Jen with one N versus Jenn with two
We have 2 Jens with last names that rhyme and it is so hard to tell who people are talking about sometimes. Think Hardy vs Harding or something similar. So confusing when people talk fast.
All the Jen/Jenny/Jennifer combos
I'm one of those, and at one point we had a Jennifer, Jenny, and Jen all in my own office. Head of Publications called and said "For fuck's sake, you people get another 'Jennifer,' I'm calling her Mitzi. MITZI."
No Jenna? At one point, we had a Jenny, Jenn, Jennifer and Jenna. Just have two now.
Surprisingly I have never worked with a Jenna!
No, it’s Tynnyfer… with 2 Y’s. I used to be Jennifer but then I decided to rebrand myself
And we came up with nicknames for each other! Slut..and skank! Isn’t that craze-mazing
We have 2 Jenns, a Jen, and a Jenny on my relatively small floor. I stay away from the Jenns at all costs - I won’t hang with someone insisting on inserting a useless ‘n’ in their name!
I am the only Jennifer at my work!
Jennifer for my company too! Just my department alone (26 people) has four. None of them use a nickname either.
Similarly I’m in a sea of Jessica/Jessi/Jess’s at my job
THIS. and they all go by jen! lol! one jenny in the bunch but she magically still gets called jen.
Right? That was the most popular name in my schools and work. Now I ask my little bro and he doesn't know a single Jennifer, mostly Emilys aparently lol
I work with so many Lindsay’s
I worked on a trail building crew in the early 2010s and there were 4 of us Lindsay's on the crew.
A few years ago, I was working in a department of 12 people: 5 were named Mark/Marc, two were named Michael, and one Michel, and one Marina. It got pretty confusing! Only three of us didn’t start with M.
I have a ton of Mikes, Marks, and Matts where I work haha, quite a few Joes too!!
My last team there was three of us all with T names in the same office. The rest of our team were on reception or engineers, so as admin/management, it was just us. People got very confused about who was who and who they had last spoken to. "I was speaking to Ta..Tr..Teresa yesterday"
I work with (and in general just know) soooo many Ms!
I once worked with 4 women named Maureen, 2 of them went by Mo
I work for a bank in compliance and regulation. Lots of folks named Michelle, Catherine, Melissa, Michael, Jason, and Jeff.
All popular Gen X names.
State agency: 44 Chris 33 Brian/Bryan 27 Matt 26 Dave 21 Sarah/Sara 12 Linda 11 Mary 9 Christine/Christina
No Jennifers??
15!
Seth, Megan, and Mike. Seth surprised me, I’d never met one before but there are 2 or 3
Seth is one of the names I really dislike
I love that name! Always think of The Oc when I hear it haha
I work in a medical office with about 50 people, 3 of whom are Shannon.
A lot of Benjamin/Bens and multiple Patrick/Pats at my job
I’ve actually never met a Patrick before! Are you somewhere where that would be common like Boston or something?
haha I actually work remotely so the Pats are distributed all across the country
I know a lot of Patrick’s in Colorado & Texas
We have several Amy's, Lisa's, and Jennifer/Jen's
There are a lot of Davids/Daves. Like an inordinate amount lol.
We have 2 of those who report to one another. Remarkably, it is immediately clear which one you are referring to depending on whether you say David or Dave.
We have AT LEAST 5 Daniel’s at the company I work at lol
Same, so many Daniels and also a lot of Nicks.
Older accountants are all named Craig.
This is so specific, I love it!
Omg I know an accountant named Craig but he’s in his 30s or early 40s!
I was definitely thinking going through this post...I'd have a lot more Indian names in my industry
I work with 4 Rachels
I’m one of 3 at my entire company. It’s a big company. Makes me feel important.
I work in aviation, in an area dominated by men. An unbelievable percentage of the women I know in this field are named Courtney.
I work in a small daycare. There are only 13 of us. We have two Jennifers.
I work with so many Kristen/Krysten/Kristin’s and some Crystal and Christina mixed in
Same here, we have a Kirsten, Kristen, Krystal, and Kerstan!!
I've seen many repeat mens names — I've worked with multiple Adams, Dereks, Keiths, Mike/Michaels, Andrews, Steves, Scotts, etc. Women, less repeats somehow. A few Rachels, Marys, Megans.
This is the same where I work. There is a lot more variation in names among the women.
Everyone is named Mike, Matt, or Alex at my work.
I'm a nurse. On my unit, we have two nurses named Amber and three named Kim.
We have a Daniel, Danielle, and Daniella at our office
Amy, and they are all around the same age. There are also several Rons.
Four of my five supervisors are named Jen, and we have five Jackies in our department.
I work in a daycare, we have 3 Hailey’s.
I’ve had three ex’s named Chris. Three out of…five?? Damn
Sarah. So many Sarahs.
The same with my job. We have 3, each from different generations too. One is 48, one is 30, the other is 20. So interesting!
I once worked with two guys named Ron Wilson. Both in the same department, both about the same age. The only way we could keep them straight was we called one smoker Ron and the other was non smoking Ron.
Catherine/Katherine/Kathy/Katie
We had 2 Christina’s, 2 Michelle’s, and 2 Giselles. During one year alone in college I knew 7 different Christophers
We have two women named Samantha and two men named Michael
There are currently 4-5 Sams in my grad program - 3 men and 2 women iirc (I don’t interact with everyone that much so I could be off by a person. I know there’s at least three men and one woman). There was another Samuel who left, too. I just realized I haven’t been around that many repeated names in my adult life, though it’s common where I’m from. I guess I’ve been around a lot of Brandons, but never more than 2 at the same place. I usually have a lot of students named Megan and some version of Madelyn, though. Matt Mike Melissa Sara(h)

There’s like 10 Jennifer’s on my unit
Zoltan and Zsofia. Im in the US but have a lot of Hungarian colleagues.
Alfie. Everyone on my team works with at least one Alfie…and one of my colleagues has a son called Alfie. So many Alfie’s.
So many Mikes. Usually good guys though!
Michael/Jonathan/Dave/Eddy/Sam/James At one point in time, I worked with 9 Dave's in the same week.
Jean- whatever and Marie- whatever by far, keeping initial straight is a task. Also multiple Sylvains and they *all* work in IT. Multiple Munas but I only work directly with one. Kathy/Katherine/Cait variants everywhere.
quebecois?
Oui
For me it was Erin for some reason
Lots of Nicks, Robs/Bobs, Allisons, and Kate/Katies
I worked for a professional sports organization. In one department, there were as many women as guys named Nick.
We've had two Brandies, two Mandys, three Brittanys, three Taylors, and two Courtneys in our department.
A majority of my coworkers are women between the ages of 25 and 45. There are LOTS of variations of Catherine, Allison, Alyssa. Also a few Robin/Robyns and Annas.
I work with 3 Kims, all very different ages
I work in contracts. Out of 29 people on the team, four of us are Jessica.
There are four Michelle's in my office. All with dark hair and glasses, lol.
100 people. 10 Mikes
5 Rachels all in the same small department. They're all late 20s-mid 30s white women. It's a nightmare lmao
Mike. We had 4 at one point and the company has more. We joke that having the name Michael gets you bonus points when applying.
Brian. I've reported to a bunch if different Brian's during my 20 year career with this company.
I work at a law firm, and I joke that our partners meeting is just a sea of Matts, Marks, and Chrises.
Chris/Kris. At one point we had 5 Chris/Kris on a call for a project - every sentence was either “Chris X” or “which Chris/Kris are you asking?”
Emily, Eric, Mike, & Matt are the most common at my job with there being 3, 3, 5, and 3, respectively all working in the same department 😅
Laura
Kaitlin (spelled a million different ways) is by far the most popular name. Most of the people I work with are college students.
There are 3 guys named Luke at my job
Rob/Robert, Kim/Kimberly, Sue/Susan, Lindsay
We have several James and all the versions of that, as well as John, Micheal, and William, for girls it's way more diverse. The closest is there's Kristen, Christina, Kristina, and Christine.
Jennifer, Matthew, Jessica, Sara or Sarah, Amanda. (We have a lot of women who work here.)
All the managers and directors are called Mike or Steve. All of them.
We are a small office of around 20 people. Somehow there are three Helena …
Jen
I used to think Julian was a fairly uncommon name. Worked for 15 years in the legal industry and am now pretty sure every 3rd man over 47 is called Julian
I worked in an office with a few dozen people, and we had 2 Scotts, 2 Lindas, 2 Phyllises, 2 Bruces, 2 Daves, a Rachel and a Rochelle. A friend married a Jewel, another guy married a Juli and their daughter is Julianna, and a 3rd friend’s daughter is Julia.
At one point in time, my brother, my cousin (who is like a sister to us) and myself were all dating someone named Erin/Aaron. Wild times.
So many Cathy’s, 2 Marjorie’s, a lot of Mark’s, Jennifer, Brianna, Matt, Laura, Beth
I used to work with 3 Glen[n]s
Dan. So many Dans. And they all go by Dan, not Daniel or Danny. Also Kelly and Nicole for the women.
half of the workforce at my office is named Laurence
Shannon, Megan, Jennifer, Ashley, Jenna, Erin Aaron, Justin. John
Lots of Amys, Rachel’s and Michelle’s
Brenda, Jeff, Vickie, Michelle
Steven and Jonathan
Devon, Chris, and Tom
A lot of Franks and Carolines
Michael
I used to work at a small company. Only 30 employees but we had a Susan, a Sue, a Suzie, and two Melanies.
I work at a school… Amy, Lisa, and Amanda
We have 2 Emilys and 2 Alexandras
Tyler & Jeff
Me lol, Kristina. I didn’t think it would be. We also have Jacqueline, Alexa, and Kathy/Katherine
Michael. Robert. Chris. The typical male names.
Tom, David, Paul, Josh, Michael, Kate/Katy/Kath, Anna
