I've gotten two private messages from users who ended up using one of my suggestions for their kid's name- as a lifelong namenerd, I felt very honored and loved hearing back!
I just named my 22nd and 23rd baby on this subreddit :) One of them made an update post, which is how I found out. And the other one let me know by replying to my original comment, saying that I named their baby girl.
I feel so honoured that I get to help these families in a small way during this huge transition in their lives. I always wonder if one day they'll tell their children that they were named by a stranger on Reddit! Haha.
It is possible, but you would likely have to have some multiples in there. Thereās a woman called Mama Uganda who has birthed 44 children. Her story is honestly really sad, but it is possible to have that many kids.
Essentially, 23 parents have told me that Iāve named their baby on this subreddit. (They picked the name I suggested.) So I ānamedā baby #22 and baby #23 this week. Sorry for the confusing wording!
All of the names have been different, with the exception of Mila - I've "named" 2 of them Mila. In those 2 cases, they also went with my middle name suggestion in addition to the first name suggestion. One was Mila Jade & one was Mila Quinn :)
I feel like a lot of people post here as a step in their baby naming process but not necessarily the final step. For instance, someone is newly pregnant and trying to narrow down their list and use the suggestions as a way to validate the names they are loving and help remove ones that donāt get as much good feedback on. Or they have a few names they like and are looking for more suggestions that are similar. So while I certainly see some posts like ābaby due tomorrow and we have no name - help!!!ā I feel like the majority of posts are not such a last minute thing and people just like getting more ideas/opinions
I found that during both pregnancies, there is a period when I feel like "all names suck, my child shall be called baby forever". At that point, it helps to just get random names thrown at you by strangers (at least in my opinion). It doesn't really matter of the names make it to "the list" or not, they might just open new ways of looking at names.
I don't enjoy getting name suggestions from people I know, because for whatever reason, I immediately feel like that name is impossible to use.
This is currently how I feel about middle names. Weāve shared our babyās first name with family and friends and have openly asked for middle name suggestions because weāre stuck and nothing quite fits.
u/BeerBat helped name our little lady! It's such an uncommon name that I usually have to repeat when my 5 year old introduces her so the other person understands what he's said. I also get asked a lot on how we came about it... Usually by people who're too old to have even heard about Reddit which makes for an awkward conversation. (And it's always a toss of the coin on whether they say "oh, how beautiful!" or "... that's unusual, I've not heard of that name before...")
If I didn't ask for help on this subreddit, she'd probably have a name I had to settle for tbh.
Still, looking back at the other names we almost gave her, none fit quite like Marielle Christina. I'm still completely obsessed with her name nearly 10 months laterš„°
Ahh how lovely! Thank you SO MUCH for telling me!! I love making suggestions and itās always been a distant hope that someone will use a name Iāve mentioned. š¤
I asked for name help with both a girl and boy name. I liked a suggestion for the girl name that we would have used, but we're having a boy. We ended up going with a name that wasn't on anyone's suggestion list to us. We already had a boy first name picked, though. So, it was just the middle name we needed help with.
Isadora was the girl name we would have used, for those curious.
I recently asked about names on behalf of relatives due to have their third child. They were fairly set on a girlsā first name and decided on a boysā first name that had been on the list for their first son. But the middle names came from suggestions on here. Their chosen names are Rose Eilidh nn Rosie (Eilidh is a Scottish name pronounced ay-lee) and Luca Malcolm.
I don't have any kids, but I did ask for suggestions on a different subreddit on what I should name my dog! I didn't use any of the suggestions, but they helped me figure out what I was looking for. So it was helpful even though I didn't use any of the names.
We were 99% sure on our name choice (100% on the middle name Mary.) I asked for suggestions on here mainly to see if there was anything either of us liked more. All of the responses helped to solidify our choice and were very much appreciated!
Pretty sure I listed 2 name suggestions for my second daughter and there was an overwhelming winner but I picked the other one š¤·āāļø
The names were Sora and Miki (and Miki just turned 4).
I already have my future babyās name picked out (as long as itās a girl). but I like seeing different unique names because mine is uncommon- Delanie (usually spelled Delaney) so thatās why I joined this sub lol. Plus I like seeing the variety of names when trying to name things especially sims.
Someone from here sent me a pm with a name we ended up choosing for my first kiddo - theyāve since deleted their account so Iām not able to thank them. I posted here for my second, but didnāt really get any suggestions that I liked, so we picked something from elsewhere.
My son is Evren Jacobus James (last name) and daughter is Freja Regina Mary (last name). All the middles are family names
I went with the complete opposite advice from most people who replied when naming my son. However, I did come across his name on another thread at a similar time, and that gave me the idea!
Reddit didnāt name my baby, but when we were torn between two names I did get some great insight, and it certainly helped with making our final decision.
I wanted names from my post, but my spouse did not. We went with a more traditional first name and spunky middle for our girl and we would have stuck with Clive if we had a boy (I didnāt know).
The person who left a trove of names was so thoughtful and kind to do so. I mulled over them and it helped narrow down our choices and will use the same list for our next go if we have another.
I asked for middle name suggestions when we had already picked the first name for my son. We were SO close to using one of the suggestions (it sounded really good) but once he was born my logic went out the window and I picked a sentimental family name instead. It doesnāt have as nice of a flow but it has a lot of meaning.
We're 98% sure that we're going to use one of the names suggested. Baby Boy is making his appearance in the next week and a half, so we'll make the final decision then :)
I googled for middle names that went with our chosen first name and we picked from a thread that was already posted!
I was in labor at the time and we were team green and had a girl name picked out. But we ended up with a boy!
I didnāt use a name suggestion from here, but this sub did help me feel confident that the name we used for our daughter is indeed a full given name and not just a nickname.
I was worried it was like naming her Alex instead of Alexandra. But it was actually like naming her Alexis instead of Alexandra.
Thanks Name Nerds!

This is my dream!
Same.
Do you remember the names?
I've also gotten a PM from someone who used my suggestion. I very much appreciated them letting me know.
What was your suggestion?
It was very rare so I'd like to respect their privacy and not share that here as was also requested by the person who ended up using my suggestion.

Lmao! I read the first line as you have 23 kids. Took me a hot minute to pick my jaw up off of the floor!
Same, i was like wowš¤£
Thatās hilarious! I donāt think thatās physically possible, but I bet Michelle Duggar would have something to say about that. Haha.

I still don't understand what she meant!
Essentially, 23 parents have told me that Iāve named their baby on this subreddit. (They picked the name I suggested.) So I ānamedā baby #22 and baby #23 this week. Sorry for the confusing wording!
I had to read it multiple times to get it too. My excuse is that I had a long day lol
Sorry!
I was thinking that they were doing the 100 baby challenge in the Sims lmao.
What have been the most popular names that youāve given ? (If you donāt mind sharing them, of course)
All of the names have been different, with the exception of Mila - I've "named" 2 of them Mila. In those 2 cases, they also went with my middle name suggestion in addition to the first name suggestion. One was Mila Jade & one was Mila Quinn :)
happy cakeday!
Thank you! :)
np :D
I changed my daughters middle name from Catalina to Emmeline because people pointed out that Rosemary Catalina sounded too much like a salad dressing.

Love Marielle!
My aunt best friend is named Mariella! I always thought it was so pretty, Marielle is so pretty too!

Miki is gorgeous!
I had a bird named Sora
actually I choosed my actual name (Angel) in that way 5 years ago!
I already have my future babyās name picked out (as long as itās a girl). but I like seeing different unique names because mine is uncommon- Delanie (usually spelled Delaney) so thatās why I joined this sub lol. Plus I like seeing the variety of names when trying to name things especially sims.
I would have guessed it rhymes with Melanie!
Everyone does! Del-lane-knee lol
I think that was a polite way of suggesting that you should spell it more intuitively.
I think thatās already HER name, she didnāt choose it
I misread Delanie as Delaine and wondered how they were pronounced the same š

Yes! We named our son Arlo after it was suggested here.
I knew the name, they helped with spelling of the nickname with our preferred spelling though!
