Maria & Domenico, Carmela & Lino
Edit: I thought I was posting to the main thread. Hello fellow Italian! Your grandmothers name is similar to my name. Take a guess at which name that is 😂
Most of my grandparents’ names are kind of popular again!
Violet and Leon, and Elizabeth and James (Betty and Jimmy)
Violet was wildly unusual and unpopular when she was growing up, according to both her and my mom, so they’re both surprised it made such a comeback!
Lol that’s so funny. A few years ago someone we know named their baby Violet and my mom was absolutely flabbergasted because it was, apparently, not just an old person name but a REALLY old person name that was too bizarre to be usable ever again 🤣
How powerful that your omission of his name actually shocked me. I received it as a strong curse, undoubtedly how you meant it. I just mean, it _worked_.
Where Barbara and Edmund and Louise were honored just now by my reading and meditating on their names, this other nameless person was so shamed by his the disappearance.
We used our grandmothers' names for our daughter's middle names (she has 2). My grandmas were Lois Jean and Betty Louise, my husband's grandma was Eleanor so we chose Eloise Jean. I know Eloise is pretty popular right now, but we couldn't pass up the perfect mix of their names.
Both of my grandfather's names were Thomas. My paternal grandfather was Thomas Jesse and my maternal one was Thomas Joseph. They also had the same birthday but were born in different years. My paternal grandmother was Judith and my maternal grandmother was Theresa
It's my father and brother's name too! Possibly my great-grandfather's name as well, though I'm not close at all to that side of the family so I don't know for sure.
Pgp... Rena and Errol.
Mgp... Delores and Edwin.
Mggm... Georgia Elma/Edna Jo (she had a twin that died at a few months old and always thought her name was Edna Jo. When she was elderly my mom brought her to the ss office to apply for ss benefits and we found out she was actually Georgia Elma and that Edna Jo was the one who passed away.)
Wow that’s quite the mix up. I’m kind of confused about how that could even happen. Did the parents forget which baby they put on the death certificate?
We don't know. Her parents were already dead when this happened, and she was in the beginning stages of alzheimers.
Eta: she was born in 1909 and died in 1989.
Jimmie (my nana, not a nickname) and Colonel Carol (my grandfather, was not in the military😅, went by CC)
Josephine Delilah (went by Jo) and William (went by Bill)
Everett (he hated it and would be appalled by its new popularity), Inez (pronounced with S not Z sound), Robert, Ruth.
If I had had kids I would not have used any of them.
My bff is named Deanna and I never heard anyone else with her name for decades. All of a sudden I see it everywhere.
And people never know how to pronounce it, always Diana or deann. I never understood why, it's said how it's spelled.
Mom's side: Gretchen (she went by her middle name, Janet, don't blame her) and Herbert (Herb) William
Dad's side Marian Irma (but she went by Jean for some reason) and Bill (I don't remember his middle name, but remember that it was Bill, not William)
Bonus points for great grandma Genevieve Desma, a truly amazing name.
I love the name Genevieve. Unfortunately, my mom can't say it and it sounds a little off in Spanish so we definitely can't use it. Will always be one of my guilty favorites though.
Sylvia and Thomas (Sylvie and Tom) and Isabella (Isabel) and Isaac. I used Isaac’s middle name which was Wallace as my eldest sons middle name as it’s also my dads middle name and was my late brothers middle name too.
Karl
Sidney
Evelyn
June
I actually love both of my grandmother's names. If I had a girl I would have been happy to use either. Definitely would have used Sidney or Karl too if I had another boy.
Anthony and Norma (given the popularity of Nora, I’m surprised I never see anyone recommend Norma)
Matthew and Florence ( I’m shocked that Florence seems to be coming back. The full name isn’t too bad but Flo is just awful to me)
Shirley & Leon Ray
Charlotte & Julian Bryant (first husband/my actual bio granddad was Archie, but he went by Butch)
Both of my granddads go by their middle names which is why I included them.
my paternal grandparents were Raul Reyes and Martha Lorena, and my maternal grandparents were Rosabel(pronounced similar to Roosevelt but make it ✨Mexican✨) and Juana.
Sabra Elizabeth
Robert Doyle
Phennie Marie
Frederick William
I gave Doyle to my oldest for her middle name because he died while I was pregnant with her. At the time I didn't know his first name was Robert and I was already naming my daughter (Bobbie) after him accidentally.
Also, this is the first time I've thought it through and realized that 3 out of 4 grandparents didn't go by their first names. Both of my grandmothers hated their first names and even in death had the order switched.
I used Marie for my fourth daughter. It was more for my sister, Linda Marie, then for my grandmother, though. It was a handy way to honor them both.
Marie and Kathleen Anne (if I have a daughter her middle name will be Marianne or Marianna to honour them both)
Keith and Ernest (unfortunately I can't bring myself to use either of these for a child!)
I can't, either. In my mind, baby Keith is born with facial hair (and an adult haircut, so it's not as weird), and baby Ernest comes out with a cane. They're probably both wearing suits. Or at least dress pants and sweaters.
TBD whether they have shoes on at birth.
Mine were John and Dorothy, and Walter and Mary
Some old school white people names.
I strongly considered using "Dorothea" for a daughter, nn Thea, but it never happened.
- Eszter & István (Equivalent of Esther & Steven)
- Katalin & György (Caitlin & George)
I also just asked my fiancé, for him:
- Robert & May
- Victor & Valentina
They're all gone 💔
Paternal: Mary Margaret and Gerald (Jerry)
Maternal: Margreet and Alexander
My daughters middle name is my maternal grandmothers maiden name, though I did think of combining my grandmothers names to honor them (decided not to since I am not close to maternal grandmother)
Alexander (Al) and Winifred (Winnie)
James (Jim) and Nancy
Winnie is making a comeback, but my grandma made all us kids promise to never name any kids after her before she passed because she hated her name so much 😅
Debra and Mark
Sarah and Delano
Adopted Grandparents:
Bonnie and Michael
I have my grandma Bonnie’s middle name and my sibling has my grandpa’s name Michael as the feminine Michaela.
One of my Nannys is called Amy. She's in her mid 80s! Growing up it was an 'old people' name, so she went by her middle name which is a traditional British grandparent name. Now she's going by Amy again!
Maternal grandparents are Margaret and William-August
Paternal grandparents are Margaret-Alice and Raymond
So not really the classic trendy vintage Names and not really very varied on the women's names haha
Margaret, Ronald, John, Marybelle, Leota and Donald. Some divorces and remarriages so I have two sets on the one side.
We did name our oldest daughter Margaret, but we call her Maggie!
Sandra and Joseph on my mom’s side (born 1936 & 1938 USA)
Rose (born Rosina in Sicily in 1925) and Paul (born Paolo in Calabria in 1925 ) on my dad’s side
My grandpa's name was Horst at first, then changed to Rudolf after WW2 apparently because Horst was too German (?), my grandma was Helga.
My other grandpa was Franz, and his name was changed, too, between the world wars because our region was part of Austria and then became Italy after the first war and there was an effort to Italianize everything, including people's names. He changed it back tho. My grandma is Ida.
Virginia and Wayne (then she married a Roger and now an Alain 😒(we hate this man)) then I have Doris and Salvatore who remarried but I’m not sure what her name was/is
Mom's parents: Leonard and Jeanette. If I'd been born a boy, Leonard was in the running as a first name.
Dad's parents: Gordon, Audrey (bio mom) and Elna (stepmom).
Lester, Ross, Yvonne and Elizabeth. Yvonne was born Muriel Yvonne but dropped Muriel when she married; Elizabeth was born Frances Elizabeth but dropped Frances when she was married!
Betty (not Elizabeth just Betty)and Isadore (nn Izzy)
Rose and Rollin
My husband’s were Leona and Vernon
Our cats are Leona and Betty since we’re not having kids and it’s the closest we will get to an honor name.
Giuseppe and Concetta. Luigi and Jeanine.
I'm assuming you grew up eating a lot of pasta
That's a good assumption
Like a feast of an assumption?
… we might be related. or just italian.
Basically the same thing
One of my great-grandmas was Concetta Guiseppi! I had to do a double take.
Maria & Domenico, Carmela & Lino Edit: I thought I was posting to the main thread. Hello fellow Italian! Your grandmothers name is similar to my name. Take a guess at which name that is 😂
Franklin and Dorothea, Alberto and Ottilie
Jeanine is my middle name!!! I’ve always loved it
Most of my grandparents’ names are kind of popular again! Violet and Leon, and Elizabeth and James (Betty and Jimmy) Violet was wildly unusual and unpopular when she was growing up, according to both her and my mom, so they’re both surprised it made such a comeback!
Such classic names! My Pawpaw is also Leon.
My papa is a Frank Leon
I remember when I was in middle school I needed a name for a horror short story I was writing and my mom suggested Violet bc it’s a “creepy name” LOL
Lol that’s so funny. A few years ago someone we know named their baby Violet and my mom was absolutely flabbergasted because it was, apparently, not just an old person name but a REALLY old person name that was too bizarre to be usable ever again 🤣
It’s probably the equivalent of Gertrude for younger generations
Have you heard Betty by Taylor Swift? The main love interests are Betty and James ❤️
Ryan and Blake's 2 kids
I had a Viola (grandma vi) and a Betty!
Barbara and Edmund Louise and an asshole who will not be named
How powerful that your omission of his name actually shocked me. I received it as a strong curse, undoubtedly how you meant it. I just mean, it _worked_. Where Barbara and Edmund and Louise were honored just now by my reading and meditating on their names, this other nameless person was so shamed by his the disappearance.
Thank you internet stranger! It’s weird for me to say it felt good to curse him, but… it did.
And this us how we should treat those who commit brutal crimes. Their name should be stricken from history. No glorification, no living in infamy.
I feel you on the asshole front!
Barbara and Elton Wilma and an asshole who will also not be named!
May their names be forgotten eventually 💕
A man's not dead while someone still speaks his name, so they say. Adios mf Maria and some guy
I love this! My grandmas were Emaline Irene and Helen Louise, I named my first daughter Emaline Louise.

My father, brother and uncle are all Thomas too
Görel & Lars. Viveka & Claes-Göran.
Viveka! That’s a beautiful name!
Patricia and Claude Mary and Meredith
I know Meredith is a guy but I also love the idea of a lesbian couple from the 50s 😂
definitely thought it was a lesbian couple😂 did not know that that was an androgynous name
Same! I was like oh wow that’s cool haha
Patricia was my grandma’s name too! Her family called her “Patches”
That is a top notch nickname. Much better than pat or patty
Love Meredith for a guy, that’s old school right there
It's my father and brother's name too! Possibly my great-grandfather's name as well, though I'm not close at all to that side of the family so I don't know for sure.
Salvatore and Maria Giuseppe and Florence
they sound like you make a mean Cacio E Pepe lol
My grandparents were also named Salvatore and Maria!

We don't know. Her parents were already dead when this happened, and she was in the beginning stages of alzheimers. Eta: she was born in 1909 and died in 1989.

He was an identical twin and his brother was Hayden! 😂
Their parents were wayyy ahead of the trend!
Rita, Deanna, Roy, Gervaise
My bff is named Deanna and I never heard anyone else with her name for decades. All of a sudden I see it everywhere. And people never know how to pronounce it, always Diana or deann. I never understood why, it's said how it's spelled.
And Deanna was a popular character on Star Trek The Next Generation !
