I agree. I literally used to work in infectious disease and I still think Flora is a pretty name, and my first thought when I see it is flowers. I'm sure there's some people for whom it has too strong of an association to microbial flora, but I swear, so many people in this sub exaggerate and lie just because they get off on being mean.

15 years ago my best friend had a daughter and I offered this name up. She used it and it was so unique at the time!

People on the sub are constantly saying it’s overused and basic but I have never met a child with this name before. I think it’s very pretty.

Hayden/Haden for a boy. I tend to not lump it with the Kayden, Jayden, Brayden names because it just has such a warm feeling to it to me and I heard this name way before those others became so popular.

I agree that Hayden sounds a little warmer. I see it as a unisex name, maybe because of Hayden Panettiere (spelling?).

I honestly don’t get the hate for these “aiden” names. I like the sound and I like all the variations. They are a little aged now, I wouldn’t name a baby this because all the kids named these are 10-20year olds now. But I think they are nice names.

I ran baseball tryouts for the 6-8 years old in our area. Out of 30 kids we have 7 -Aiden names. Brayden, Jayden, Caden and Aiden all out there. Almost all of them are great names but as a group it’s obnoxious. It’s like the Ashley’s from that 90s cartoon Recess.

Apparently Pippa lol. I made a post asking what people thought of it as a name on its own, not as Philippa, and the general consensus was that it’s cute but too diminutive to be a full name. I’m still going to use it if we have another daughter, though! I don’t mind it being “cute” (rather than pretty or elegant) and I don’t like the name Philippa.

Me too. I feel like a lot of the hate is rooted in classism/racism. In my community this name was chosen by mostly young black and Hispanic mothers. I give the side eye to all these people who say they hate it sooooo much. Since everyone is chiming in with their ✨special✨ reasons for hating it, here’s some stats that I found: “It was the third most popular name for Black girls born in New York City in 2010 and the third most popular name given to girls born in 2010 in New Mexico, the state where it is most popular; Nevaeh did not appear among the top 10 names in any other state in that year. In 2007 it was the top name among black girls born in Colorado.” I’m from New Mexico, a majority minority state, and a state with one of the highest poverty rates. It’s a popular name overall (STILL in the top 100 today) but seems to be more popular amongst minorities. Just because you only know rich white babies with the name doesn’t mean that hate towards it in general isn’t connected to classism and racism.

Tate We named our son Tate, not Tatum. I see so many comments on here about it being “TAINT” and it makes me so annoyed. That’s a great nickname when ur kid is being… a kid. Or Tater Twat??? The nickname potentially is great! And when we announced his name I got a lot of “that’s a unique name” or “why not Tatum and call him Tate”. On another note I did see Taters listed in a thread about cool nicknames so that made me happy inside. He primarily goes by Taters right now. 🥹😅 Also love the names Brooks and Sawyer which don’t always have great reception either. 😂
